OLYMPIQUE DE LOTRIQUE 0-1 FC HELLINGBOURG

PRE-MATCH

• The stage is set for the final of the 2019-20 Copa de Mydra, the Stade Nationale beckons for the teams and fans of both sides. Only ninety minutes (plus whatever may be added on) separate these two fine sides from victory in Midrasia's foremost domestic cup competition.
• Olympique de Lotrique went into this competition as the defending champions. Along the way to the final they saw off Sporting Pavania on penalties after a 1-1 draw in the Third round, Internationale by 2 goals to 1, Bastile in a 5-3 thriller, and FC Cadillac 2-0.
• Hellingbourg meanwhile soundly defeated league champions FC Almiaro by a surprising 3 goals to 0. They then went on to beat Union Bordeiu in extra-time by 1-0. Vaelleniana were next to fall 1-0 in a quarter-final Berghelling derby, whilst the relegated Montscia lost 1-0 to the bears in the semi-final.
• Olympique de Lotrique certainly have history in this competition having won it 9 times. Hellingbourg meanwhile have only won the competition once, all the way back in 1954. To date, it is Hellingbourg's only major trophy honour.
• The lineups have been released and it seems the Olympiens will still be fielding a rotated side as they have for much of the tournament. de Villegas takes the role up front with Truelsen on the wing, Trotta slots into midfield, whilst Dalgaard and Walker line up in defence. This may very will be many of these players' last game for the side, with a widespread summer rebuild expected to take place under new manager Odd Sannes.
• As for Hellingbourg it is a defensive 5-4-1 formation, with some big losers in the squad as Codoc, Dayal, and Hunstad all start on the bench. An older, but more experienced squad, manager Melgaard may be saving the energy of some of his older players for the second half.

FIRST-HALF

0': And we are away for the final of the 2020 Copa de Mydra as the Olympiens take on the Bears! The sun is beginning to set here in Lotric, but the football is just starting. Let's see what the ninety minutes have in store for us!
2': The Olympiens, the heavy favourites for this game have won the toss and continue to hold possession, working the ball around the midfield. Having won this tournament 9 times already, and being the defending champions it's hard to look past them as the potential winners of this competition. But, it's important to note that the team is in a rebuilding process. Sannes is still relatively unfamiliar with his new team and despite gaining qualification to the Champions Cup, he hasn't quite been able to mould it into his ideal shape yet.
4': Now you certainly can't underestimate Hellingbourg, they've had a very good season finishing 5th in the league by a healthy margin and earning a few good victories along the road to the final, most notably beating Almiaro 3-0. It may have been a second-string Vermilonor side, but winning is ultimately what matters, and that's exactly what they did. The bears seeming to play a low-block, denying the Olympiens any inroads towards the box.
6': OdL just trying to work the ball around the channels now, as the claret shirts crown the penalty box. The ball whipped in by Oriendente! But Kerebeck was up in time to meet it and crashes to the ground with the ball between his hands.
10': The first sustained spell of possession by Hellingbourg is very quickly lost as a long ball towards Ferrando is cut-out by Joulles. Seems the Bears may be just hoping to catch the Olympiens on the break and hope that their backline can't be broken down. I know Melgaard and the coaching staff will have been working on their shape a lot in the weeks leading up to this clash.
13': Truelsen with the ball now on the far side, the penalty area crowded once more, Walker on the overlap, THE NEWREYAN WHIPS THE BALL IN....
14': ITS ONTO THE HEAD OF VILLEGAS! But the ball just sails over the bar for a goal-kick.
17': Hellingbourg working the ball forward through the middle, very conservative in their movement. Ekkekko with some fine skill to break away from Trotta who was closing the midfielder down. He now looks to play in Mordrel down the wing, what can he do from here?
18': HE PLAYS A LOW CROSS TOWARDS FERRANDO! But Meridon was there to hoof it to safety, BUT NOW A COUNTER MAY BE ON FOR ODL AS ORIENDENTE DRIVES FOWARD DOWN THE WING, HE PLAYS IT ONTO TRUELSEN!
19': Good stop by Kerebeck! The Hellingbourg goalkeeper parries the shot wide for a corner kick. He may be one of the older keepers in Midrasian football, but his reflexes are definitely still there.
20': Corner taken quickly by Johansen as he goes short to Walker WHO SWINGS IT IN TOWARDS THE FAR POST! HEADER BY TROTTA!..
21': BUT KEREBECK PARRIES IT UPWARDS! The ball is still anybody's! Heads line-up in the box to try and get the first touch...
22': The goalkeeper leaps towards the ball, bundling it in his arms and holding on for dear life as he lumps to the deck. He gets a pat on the head from his captain as thanks.
26': A rough challenge from Kerleau on Joulles earns the Vaellenian a yellow card for his trouble. Free-kick to the Olympiens.
29': Olympique de Lotrique really having a tough time trying to break down this Hellingbourg defence, every time they go forward, there are just so many claret shirts in the box. But at the same time Hellingbourg haven't even had a shot on goal yet, they're not exactly threatening are they?
32': Or have I spoken too soon? Here's Mani on the ball driving forward, probably the furthest forward a Hellingbourg wing-back has gotten all game, he plays it long THROUGH TO FERRANDO WHO BEATS THE OFFSIDE TRAP, HE COULD BE IN HERE!...
33': But the ball flies into the stands! The Olympiens fans let out a sarcastic cheer as the Midrasian striker stares at the sky and shakes his head. Goal-kick.
37': The ball goes out for a Hellingbourg throw and Gallo appears to take an age to throw it back into play. The crowd jeers and the referee eventually tells him to get on with it. Seems the Bears are wasting time already. They know that their best hope tonight may just be a penalty shootout.
42': The Olympiens now just turning up the tempo a little bit. Sannes urging his team on for the remaining minutes of the half.
44': The Olympiens with what might be their last attempt of the half. Joulles plays a long diagonal towards Oriendente who faces off with Gallo HE SENDS HIS MAN THE WRONG WAY WITH A STEP OVER, HE DRIVES TOWARDS THE BOX AND CHIPS IT IN... TRUELSEN ON THE FAR POST!
45': And it hits the post! Ulrik Truelsen drops to the ground in disbelief, slapping the post in rage. The fourth-official shows one minute of added time.
45+1': HALF-TIME. Olympique de Lotrique 0-0 FC Hellingbourg.

SECOND-HALF

45': Both teams have now emerged from their dressing rooms as the second-half gets underway. No change on either side, and it's tough to know how each manager is feeling at the moment. Whilst OdL have been dominant with the ball, they still haven't broken down that defence, and for all of Hellingbourg's defensive work, they've had little potency in attack. Could that all change in the next 45 minutes? Only time will tell.
48': Olympique de Lotrique certainly seem to have come out this second half a determined side, they're moving the ball much faster now trying to create space and tire out the players in claret.
52': A very strong challenge by Mordrel on Oriendente earns the Hellingbourg midfielder a yellow card. Oriendente doesn't look too good here, as he's carried to the sidelines to receive medical attention. A free kick to the Olympiens.
54': The referee waves Oriendente back onto the pitch and the winger seems in some discomfort, but determined to play on. Joulles with the ball now, as he plays it towards Truelsen.
57': Oriendente goes down again. His teammates put the ball out so he can receive attention. Tears run down his eyes as he knows he has to come off. Nobody wants to end a cup final this way.

60': The Olympiens now trying some long searching diagonal balls in an attempt to overwork and the Hellingbourg defence, their wingers are getting into some dangerous positions, but that box is still far too crowded.
62': Albret with the ball now out wide, he dummies a cross into the box BUT INSTEAD HE PLAYS IT TO JOHANSEN ARRIVING LATE ON THE EDGE...
63': But the ball ricochets off Villegas who was in the way of the shot! It looked like it was going in as well! Goal kick.
64': Hellingbourg take the time to make a change, as the yellow-carded Luca Mordrel makes way for the 36-year-old Navish veteran Hugo Hunstad. A cheer goes up from the Vaellenian contingent in the stands.
Substitution: Luca Mordrel, (RM) ⇄ Hugo Hunstad (CAM) (HEL)
67': Hunstad's introduction seems to have changed the Hellingbourg formation to a 5-3-1-1. He will be sitting right behind Ferrando looking to thread passes through from the midfield. Bearáin also moves centrally allowing much more space for the wing-backs to bomb on.
70': The change doesn't seem to have affected OdL though who are still pushing forward in numbers. Joulles now playing it through the middle, Villegas drops deep to receive it, the Hellingbourg defence drops off. SO THE VELEAZAN RELEASES A SHOT FROM DISTANCE!..
71': But that's easy enough for Kerebeck who catches it, slumping to the floor again in another characteristic act of time-wasting.
73': As the ball goes out for a throw-in Hellingbourg make their second change of the evening.

74': It hasn't really been the evening to remember for Hellingbourg's top scorer in this competition, he simply hasn't had the service he needed. But perhaps the big target-man can bring the Bears a new dynamic up top with his hold-up play and large stature?
76': The Olympiens really turning up the wick now. Hellingbourg will likely be feeling the pressure and tiredness now. All eleven Hellingbourg players seem to be behind the ball now. Can the reigning champions break down this defence? They've been by far the dominant team thus far. Ben Nuriya now has the ball on the far-left. He overlaps with Albret, his cross bounces off Gallo. It will be a corner kick.
77': JOHANSEN WHIPS IT IN.... IT HITS THE HEAD OF JOULLES!...
78': The keeper isn't anywhere near it! BUT GUDONIS SCUFFS IT AWAY! BUT IT HITS THE BAR AND FALLS STRAIGHT DOWN AGAIN! Gudonis eventually clears it away, but was it over the line?!? JOULLES WHEELS OFF IN CELEBRATION!
79': BUT THE REFEREE SAYS NO GOAL! GOAL-LINE TECHNOLOGY SAYS IT DIDN'T CROSS THE LINE, NOW DAYAL ON THE BREAKAWAY, HE HAS ONLY ONE DEFENDER AND THE KEEPER TO BEAT!...
80': But Meridon gets back just in time and slide tackles the big man, clearing the ball away! Dayal isn't the fastest man on the pitch. And had that been Ferrando, he may have just made it work.

83': The Olympiens throwing everything at Hellingbourg now. They smell weakness, they smell tiredness. The addition of Topaz to midfield should add some fresh legs and dynamism to their attack now as they go again.
85': OdL win another corner after a cross was blocked by Gudonis. Johansen will take it. Navy and Claret shirts crowd the penalty area.
86': It's in by Johansen, but that was too easy for Kerebeck who catches. BUT QUICKLY LAUNCHES IT DOWNFIELD TOWARDS VICTOR MANI. THE WING-BACK SPRINTS UP THE FIELD. THEY SAW HOW ODL WERE CAUGHT OUT LAST TIME. MERIDON TRIPS TRYING TO CATCH HIM, HE'S TOO FAST. VICTOR MANI WORKS IT INTO THE BOX!
87': BUT DALGAARD SLIDES IN.... AND BRINGS DOWN MANI! THE REFEREE POINTS TO THE SPOT. THERE WAS NO DOUBT FOR A SINGLE SECOND. HE'S GIVEN A PENALTY!
88': Bernt Dalgaard receives a yellow card for the foul. Now step up to the plate. Mr. Ice Cold. Mr. Reliable. Mr. Hugo Hunstad. He places the ball on the spot. The 36 year-old only has Thierry Florient to beat. HUGO HUNSTAD FOR HELLINGBOURG!
88': GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAALLL! HUGO HUNSTAD BURIES THE PENALTY IN THE TOP CORNER, NO CHANCE FOR THE GOALKEEPER! HE TAKES OFF HIS SHIRT AND TWIRLS IT AROUND HIS HEAD. THE HELLINGBOURG FANS GO MENTAL!
89': Hunstad receives a yellow card for removing his shirt. The Olympiens make one last desperate change in an attempt to level the score.

90': There will be five minutes of added time. Five minutes. Both sets of fans roar on the respective teams. There is still time for a comeback, but all Hellingbourg have to do is hold on.
90+1': ODL THROWING EVERYTHING UP. MERIDON IS PRACTICALLY PLAYING AS A STRIKER. Albret whips the ball in... But Kerebeck holds onto it and falls once again to the floor.
90+2': Kerebeck takes his time playing the ball and receives a yellow card for time-wasting. He lauches it towards Dayal, but OdL win it back and look to launch it back whence it came.
90+3':Truelsen now with the ball, his tired legs pushing as far as they can go.He threads it into the box, TOWARDS LAZARÉ!
90+4': But Marius Tiboru is there to hoof the danger clear and out for a throw-in. Hellingbourg take the time to make one last change in an attempt to waste some time.

90+5': The Olympiens push as far foward as possible, but the penalty box is crowded with 11 opposition players with the chants of their fans ringing out around the stadium. JOHANSEN LAUNCHES ONE LAST BALL INTO THE MIX...
90+6': IT HITS THE HEAD OF TRUELSEN BUT THEN THAT OF TIBORU WHO SENDS IT DOWNFIELD AND THATS IT! The referee blows for full-time. HELLINGBOURG HAVE WON THE COPA DE MYDRA!
