The VTg-27 is one of our most reliable and widely used revolver cannons in stock. The program to develop this gun was kickstarted by the development of Dyaas-Nildhelm's VL-70 Sperwer. The Sperwer program was new territory for Dyaas-Nildhelm and we jointly collaborated on the design for the indigenous 4th Gen Fighter jet. We developed the VTg-27 to have a hard hitting power, be gas-operated, and allow for smooth integration towards any future fighter jets. This cannon was developed with pyrotechnic cocking charges in mind. This means that it does not need external electricity to be allowed to fire. It can accelerate quicker to begin firing. At the same time, the acceleration is not as fast as other revolving cannons, however, the tradeoff is a more consistent and accurate rate of fire. The preferred ammunition for this gun is of the mine shell variety. These shells have thin walls and are packed with explosives, good for air to air combat.
In the early 2000's, the Rookanse Navy propositioned us for a naval version of this cannon. Wowed by their request, we quickly did so and found that the VTg-27 is a good cannon to place on ships for surface targets as far as 4,300 Meters away, or 2,700 Meters while engaging a high speed target. Hammel then developed a turret around the gun, and connected this turret to ships to become automatically operated. Thanks to our technology division, computer assisted targeting is being integrated on these naval versions of the cannon, dubbed the VTg-27N.
