Nestled right in the middle of a bustling capital city, Berlin military academy was one of the most prestigious military academies in the UFG. Students sit around in generic classrooms, taking notes on military advances and tactics of World war 2. Students then practice these tactics in wargames, in order to get a feel for said tactics.
Berlin Military academy was established in 1971, as the Bundeswehr needed a dependable officer corps as the ever-looming threat of invasion was over the horizon. Officers needed to know how to identify chokepoints, and be able to coordinate an in-depth defense. Due to this, Chancellor Brandt ordered the formation of Berlin Military academy.
The selection section is about as hard as you would expect. Recruits are combed for good grades in high school, and have a clean record. Then you would have to head to your recruiter, head to a PT test where you have to run 10 miles in one hour.
Lt. Johnannen Schimdt was fiercely patriotic, as he had attended a military academy back in Berlin. He had sat around in classrooms, gobbling up anything about the great generals of Germany such as Erwin Rommel, and Erich von Manstien. He had a light skin tone, and looked like your average German soldier. He had enlisted, leaving his comfortable home, in order to fulfill his dream of being an officer.
He was born in a small German village, born to an American Father and a German mother. He had originally planned to join the US military, but could not join. He settled for the Bundeswehr instead, joining the Berlin military academy after high school.
After graduating and leaving the academy, Lt. Schmidt reported to his 1st duty station. Exiting the autobahn, he headed to a non-descript toll gate in the middle of nowhere. He had a mixed feeling about this, as he was new. Pulling up, he rolled down his window. "Hello, show me ID, please." The MP had a kindly face, and spoke in a neutral tone. Handing over his ID, the MP took a moment to check the ID. "Lt, you're good to go. Make sure you report to the command center. Have a nice day."
Heading to a parking lot, he exited. It was raining, with a little bit of thunder. Pulling up his hoodie, he headed to the tent in the middle. Dragging his feet through mud, he entered the tent. "Ah yes. Lt. Schmidt. We have been expecting you. My name is Captain John, and I will be your commanding officer for this area. Please, follow me." Quickly studying John's face, he imposed some sort of commanding aura. Gulping, Lt. Schmidt replied. "Yes sir." He felt nervous, as this was his 1st time speaking to his CO. He was expecting to mess something up and be smoked, but the walk seemed uneventful.
"Welcome to Exercise alpha. You will take command of Wolfpack squad. This Exercise will test the company of our recently graduated officers." Quickly passing by an olive drab barracks, 2 Eurofighter typhoons flew over camp. "Of course, we will test you on three things. 1st, your ability to adapt. 2nd, your leadership compentcy. 3rd, your evaluation of the situation. You are to take a hill, and defend it until reinforcements arrive. Dismissed."
A FEW DAYS LATER, 5 PM
After communicating their status, Wolfpack team headed to a Y junction. Heavily forested, the troops did not know where to go. A MP told them to go to the left, a fatal mistake that would claim the lives of four soldiers. After passing through the heavily wooded area, the team found themselves in a middle of a plain, with destroyed tanks on one side. A line of small trees was off to the left, a few derelict tanks on the right.
A leopard 2a6 was aiming at the KMPV LAV's. Mistaking them for a target, a 120mm HEAT shell was fired. "WHAT DID YOU DO!! THOSE ARE FREINDLIES!! CEASE FIRE!!" It was too late. Wolfpack 1 was on fire, occupant’s dead. Wolfpack 2 quickly swerved to the right and almost tipped over on an irrigation ditch. Panicked, Lt. Schmidt picked up the radio. "We have a blue on blue situation. 4 men are dead, requesting medevac." Looking around, the team medic was trying to resuscitate them, to no avail.
“This is White-1, medevac on location.” A UH-60 Blackhawk landed, and 2 medics and a stretcher team exited. Grabbing his med kit, one of the medics realized there was no hope. Quickly putting him to the UH-60, dust was kicked up as the medevac left.
Quickly driving back, Wolfpack 1 quickly headed back.
Driving around in the Suburbs of Berlin, a single Volkswagen arrived at a house. A few hedges on the side, windows, the normal dressings. Walking up to the door, Col. Smith looked like your average commanding figure. Quickly sighing, he knocked three times. A woman’s voice was heard, and they opened the door. Giving an envelope labeled Bereavement to the woman, he walked away. Driving away from the rows of houses, he hated to be the deliverer of bad news. He was uplifting, but he didn’t choose this job thinking it would be easy.
The woman opened the envelope, and broke down.
ATTN: TO MRS. HANZ AND MR. HANZ
We regret to inform you about the loss of your son during a training exercise due to a blue on blue incident.
“Why?” She hit the hardwood floor, while her husband tried to comfort her.
Lt. Schmidt got ready. Looking around, an electric toothbrush was there, something there, etc. The hearing was today. He was quite nervous, as he had gone from being a soldier to being a member of a hearing.
