Liberia Under Attack!
Boko Haram, Ansaru, AQIM and allies take aim at Liberia, launch massive bombing campaign across country
Monrovia - Early this morning on July 3, more than a hundred bombings have been reported across Liberia, more than half of those at the Capitol Hill District of Monrovia. At 5:33 am, three high explosive bombs detonated at the Executive Mansion followed by reports of gunfire from within the Mansion, engulfing it in flames. Two bombs detonated at the Capitol Building at 5:49 am followed by gunfire, which was reported by Security forces that were quickly eliminated afterwards. Several more bombs were reported in Robertsport, Grand Cess, Harbel, and Greenville, with reports of gunfire following all of those bombings. At 7:49 am, Monrovia Police and EMS personnel confirmed the deaths of President George Weah, Clar Weah and his children in the subsequent fire that burned the entire mansion down before First Responders could arrive. The Minister of Defense has also been confirmed dead after Police responded to reports of gunfire at his home. Several other high ranking government officials, including Chief Justice Francis_Korkpor, President pro tempore Albert Chie and Inspector-General of the Police Patrick Sudue. No reports of casualties have been reported in the Capitol Building bombing, but over 178 civilians have been confirmed killed in the bombings across Liberia and counting. At 8:36 am, representatives of Boko Haram, Ansaru, al-Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb, and several supporting Islamic factions have taken responsibility for the attacks and confirmed that "more are coming and that this was only the first move in a highly coordinated and planned series of assaults before taking over Liberia."
Vice President Jewel Taylor was sworn in as emergency acting President of Liberia at 9:06 am and troops of the Armed Forces of Liberia have mobilized to Monrovia, where reports of gunfire are confirmed between Liberian National Police and masked insurgents wearing black clothing and wielding assault weapons of varying make. With the death of Minister of Defense Ziankhan, Deputy Minister for Operations Saint Jerome Larbelee has been sworn in as emergency acting Minister of Defense. Additional explosions were reported at Barclay Training Center, resulting in twenty-three deaths, one of which was the Chief of Staff, Major General Prince Johnson. At 10:37, all U.S. advisors and foreign assets have been evacuated.
At 10:55, Liberian Police forces in Monrovia are overrun, taking heavy casualties from insurgent fighters and improvised vehicular explosive devices, pushing all officers back to the National Police Headquarters at Capitol Hill. Monrovia, the capital city of Liberia, is reported to be in enemy hands.
President Taylor is requesting any international aid be provided.
