Hello and welcome to the One Stop Shop thread for all things Sunalaya. This thread serves as both a recruitment and information stop for new and interested members to Sunalaya. Within this thread you may find a whole trove of information on Sunalaya, including our regional RPs, iiwiki, and Discord link. Feel free to check them out, and if you have any questions or are interested in joining please don't hesitate to come on into Sunalaya using our regional link or join our members on our highly active Discord server!

What is Sunalaya, you might ask? Sunalaya is a cultured and unique region, being founded in the ancient times of 2012. We used to have over 130 members, so if you are a relatively older NSer you might have seen us before. However, if you are new to NS this region would be a perfect starting location for you to learn the ropes of worldbuilding and national roleplaying!

Sunalaya is a region that has endless opportunities for new players of NationStates to be able to find an area in which they can truly call a "home." We have multiple seasoned members, with many having been in the region since its founding in 2012, and we are a tight-knit community that knows each other.

Sunalaya is a modern day, modern technology region. However, we do have roleplays that span across Sunalayan history. We have roleplays that strech across the entirety of Sunalaya history! From pirates sailing through the misty oceans to tanks rolling through the valleys during the Second Great War, Sunalaya has it all! Not sure how to worldbuild a nation? Sunalaya has multiple members with expertise on different subjects (economics, military history, current military technology and strategy, general history, and much more!) that are happy to help you build the nation of your dreams.

Joining Sunalaya is very easy; all you have to do is fill out this application! The application is just so that both you and us in Sunalaya can see what kind of nation you wish to create, and how we can adapt it to our canon! Regional Continents

• Ventismar - The continent of Ventismar acts as Sunalaya's "Europe." This continent contains 17 independent nations of varying cultures, and has a very rich history and intracontinental relations.
• Ophion - Situated on the righthand side of the map, Ophion is the largest Sunalayan continent and acts as the region's "Asia." This continent currently houses 6 independent nations.
• Corentia - Situated on the lefthand side of the map, Corentia is the second largest Sunalayan continent and is similar to "South America." This continent does not have a direct correlation to the real world's continents, but does share similar topography and climate to South America. This continent currently houses 21 nations.
• Ziamban - Situated in the center of the map under Ventismar, Ziamban acts as Sunalaya's "Africa."
• North Corentia - Situated above Corentia, acts as Sunalaya's "North America."

  • How do I know what is available to claim on the map?
    
    - Simply look for spots on the map that do not have a name of a nation! For example, the name of a nation will be in bolded italics while the name of a continent will be in faded italics. Spots that are open for claiming are empty.
    
  • How big of a spot can I claim?
    
    - Generally we like to have new members choose a "reasonable" sized nation, but it varies on each continent. Nations on Ophion (our Asia) are generally larger due to the continent's size, but nations in Ventismar (our Europe) are much smaller.

National information
Official Name: The Federation of Astronoth
Shortened Name: Astronoth
Requested Location: Anywhere coastal, if size is an option I’d prefer to be on the level of Texas.
RP Population: 30 million.
Culture: The culture of Astronoth is based on Pennsylvania Dutch and Slav. There is a heavy emphasis on military agrarian socialism, national identity, folk music, and theater. Participation in the government is mandatory, options for service range from soldiering, working in state owned companies, or working for the National Workers Party.

• Ethnicity: Astronesian is the prime ethnicity. A small community of Astronesian Jews are present and they are treated as full citizens. Anti-Semitism is against party policy. The party holds civic nationalism as a tenet.
• Religion: The National Church of Astronoth is a protestant church with ‘milagrosoc’ (military agrarian socialism)characteristics. Judaism is practiced where communities of small Astronesian Jews exist.

National information
Official Name: The Saddusaic Kingdom of Menassa
Shortened Name: Menassa
Requested Location:

RP Population: ~285 Million
Culture: Currently Menassa is embroiled in a culture class between two main parties similar to liberal and conservative but with a religious bent.

• Ethnicity: Most Menassans are of Jewish ethnicity, specifically Ashkenazi Jewish (in the real world) however there are some residents who are not Ashkenazi Jewish. There presence is tolerated so long as they are loyal to the state and attentive to the laws of the Sanhedrin. These resident aliens/gentiles are interspersed among the greater Menassan population, they do not make up a single community but are instead disparate families/peoples who have come to settle in Menassa. They benefit from living outside of certain laws which only apply to the Jewish population, no official government categorization of these individuals has ever been made.
• Religion: The main religion of the nation is Judaism, for a time, it was Biblical/Rabbinic Judaism which emphasized strict adherence to Jewish Law. After the recent coup (see RP sample) the sect of Saddusaic Judaism, which attempts to synchronize Jewish Law with the modern world has arisen, to the chagrin of many. Other religions that do not espouse belief in one God are not tolerated in Menassa. There are underground communities of pagans who worship their household Gods and various Semetic Gods. In previous regimes, when these communities were discovered they were either summarily executed or exiled. The current regime has taken the policy of "Removal if discovered" but makes no attempt to police or uproot these communities which it does not see as a threat.
• Languages: Classical Hebrew with a German/Ashkenazic pronunciation

Government Type: Theocratic Monarchy
Head of State: Matthias Janneus Who is both the King and the High Priest. In times past, Menassa had a King, a High Priest, and a "Father of the Court" (Chief Justice). After the most recent coup the office of High Priest and King have been absorbed by one individual.
Head of Government: Shammai ben Abuyah II he is the chief justice and runs the Great Sanhedrin. A court of 72 elders/statesmen/sages that create the laws of Menassa.

General Overview of the Planned History or What you would like to have happen:

The prehistory of Menassa isn't to terribly important and can be fleshed out/adapted/tweaked/as needed.

What is established is the modern history stretching back to a man by the name of King Gideon. King Gideon was a righteous man who did what was right in the eyes of the Lord and the eyes of man. Menassa, at that time was not very present on the world stage and was largely isolationist. King Gideon died peacefully and left the nation to his son King Menashe II. King Menashe II was the great expander. He brought Menassa into the modern world through various treaties and wars etc. With entrance onto the world stage came the pressures of melding the religiosity of his nation with the influences of the world at large.

King Menashe II had three children, one daughter, one son, and one daughter.The King's first daughter married the prince of a pagan nation and was disowned. It was then assumed that the crown would go Josiah, however Josiah did not respect Gods Law and the crown when to King Menashe II's youngest daughter Chaiya.

But Chaiya did what was evil in the eyes of God and in the Eyes of her people. She married a pagan prince and drew the err of the people. Chaiya was called the cruel one and her rule was capricious.

So rose Matthais Janneus to reclaim Menassa. Together with the conservative Rabbinical party he initiated a coup that saw the Kingdom handed over to him and his ilk. Then, he donned the sacred vestments of the High Priest and the crown of King Gideon violating Menassan tradition. Now, the country simmers as various factions ramp up political excursions against the other, however no action has been taken by other side since the days of the coup and there is an outward peace in the land.

• Anything else?: I love RPing with my nation, I love RPing with with other nations around my nation. I think it's very fun and I've been doing it for as long as I've been in the site (10 years goodness). In that time I've learned to be as forward and honest as possible. I'm not a trained author, I can't pen novels or create national info that would rival college textbooks. I'm not always available, if I'm going inactive for awhile to take care of RL responsibilities I will be sure to let you know. I'm looking to get back into RPing with my nation as a nation and not just posting on the Christian/Jewish/Muslim discussion threads, y'all seem like your the perfect region to do that with, a veritable Goldilocks region.
