A new century dawns on an Earth that has only just started to rebuild after nuclear war. Humanity survived the war, hidden in bunkers far beneath the earth. Their society was not as lucky. Of course, that has started to rebuild, as well, as small settlements begin to dot the world above-ground and rebuilding has started to occur.

The slate has been wiped clean by nuclear fire. New nations are rising out of the ashes, some taking inspiration from the old world, some being totally different. But can they stand the test of time?

Welcome to From the Ashes! From the Ashes is a nation RP taking place from the year 2100. One real life day is one season in the RP. You can expand once every season (in the RP, of course), the amount will be specified by the administration. You start with two counties.

Rules:
1. Follow all NS rules.
2. Be realistic. No godmodding, ect.
3. Expand realistically. No snaking, ect, and don't expand just to deny others territory.
3b. Colonies in unclaimed areas, however, are allowed.
4. New systems and features may be added. If this happens, then I'll put up a poll, and then all players will vote.
5. Any violation of rules will lead to the post being voided, and you cannot post again until the next day (if the post is in the IC thread). However, it may lead to a ban depending on the severity or past violations.
6. You can obviously post every day, but at least try to post every week. If you go two weeks without posting without notifying me or an admin, then your nation will collapse.
7. Admins are authorized to resolve lore disputes and game disputes. They are also given authority to accept applications. However, they can be overridden by the OP.
8. New rules can and will be added if necessary.

History:

2019: Prometheus Technologies is founded. Its stated goal is to create the first mass-produced, intelligent robot.
2022: Prometheus Technologies succeeds in its task, creating the Adam 1 robot. Meanwhile, demonstrations at the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics go south, starting the Second Chinese Civil War. SpaceX and NASA announce that they will cooperate to go to Mars.
2027: The first extraterrestrial human colony is started on Mars. The EU and Russia follow in 2029, Japan and India in 2030, and China in 2032. The Chinese Civil War ends in a Republican victory, with Tibet gaining independence.
2033: The EU officially unifies into a federation, and signs the Treaty of Warsaw with Russia. In it, Russia hands over Kaliningrad to the EU and agrees to lay off all claims to the Baltic States, and in return Russia is allowed to annex Belarus, and Ukraine is split among the EU and Russia. The two sides become somewhat more friendly.
2042: The lack of fuel almost instantly plunges the economy down. In retrospect, this is the beginning of the end for the Old World. The Resource Wars begin between powers.
2044: Greenland, now significantly warmer and one of the few remaining oil sources, declares independence from Denmark. The rebels are supported by Russia, while the Danish government is supported by Denmark.
2049: After five years, a coup occurs in Russia, turning it into the New Soviet Union. The Greenland War is won by America, who gives Greenland independence but under a puppet government.
2054: Most of the countries of the world, tired of the meddling of the major powers of the world, especially in the case of oil, form an alliance, suddenly ending the Resource Wars. They quickly gain the support of the UN. However, the major powers of America, the EU, Russia, China, Japan, India, Brazil and South Africa form the Eight-Nation Alliance. World War III begins.
2064: After ten years, World War III finally ends with the victory of the Eight-Nation alliance. They carve up the world, and dismember the UN. However, tensions soon form between the powers.
2069: After five years, a nuclear war begins. The Old World is destroyed in 48 hours, as society collapses.
2077: Humans begin to emerge from the vaults, as they begin to rebuild.
2100: The RP starts..

History: Estonia, like most other European countries, was absorbed into the EU when it united in 2033. It functioned as an important strategic point for the EU against Russia, as it was only 150 kilometers away from St. Petersburg. The Estonian government was one of the strongest advocates for the Treaty of Warsaw, which was signed soon after the unification. Estonia was used as an effective tool against Russia in 2069, being able to reach most of Western Russia. This, however, did not save them from eventual doom. Nuclear winter took a heavy toll on Estonia, with its already cold climate, and nearly all people outside of vaults died.

When the Estonians emerged from their vaults, they created a new country, the Republic of Estonia, which was basically the exact same country they had before.

With this shocking win for a socialist in the United States, many right-wing groups such as moderate conservatives, libertarians, and even the far-right joined, such as the American Nazi Party and the Ku Klux Klan. Major fights broke out across the US, and hundreds of people were being injured or even killed. The first states to secede from the Union were Colorado the 4th of July, and Nevada on July 8th. After minor schisms within the Nevada government and Vegas, the city of Las Vegas-Paradise seceded from Nevada as the Municipal Republic of Vegas-Paradise.

History: During WWIII, Khabarovsk Krai was not touched that much, due to being very far away from most frontlines. During this war, though, the city saw its worst blizzard in decades, causing communication lines to shut down, and roads to freeze. During this time, only train transport could support the city. After half-a-month of no communication, the freezing ended, and Khabarovsk was back to normal. The years passed, and then... boom. Nuclear war begins, and the major port that supplies Khabarovsk, Vladivostok, is destroyed by a nuke. The people of the city are forced into the bunkers due to the nuclear war that is going on.

On May 6th of 2078, the people of Khabarovsk Krai are released from their bunkers. The cities seem to not be as damaged as the people thought they would be, and begin the reconstruction period.

As of 2100, Amur is suffering from radiated water, and lack of supply.

Making the alliance pay for anything coming towards them. When the occupation began though, Britain felt the worse of it. The people turned the entire British isles into a Stalingrad. It was total war. London became the only hold-out for the occupation forces. The British military had vanished though, busy building vaults and bunkers deep beneath the Scottish mountains and the smaller bunkers in Southern England. When the nuke alarms began, the bunkers were almost all prepared. The British monarchy were already moved into the bunkers beneath the Scottish mountains. Military assets were also being moved in with them and the formation of a new British government. Of the various bunkers across Britain, only 84% had checked in after sealing doors. Now, years later, only 67% of bunkers were still reporting in.

The republic was surrounded by the expanding powers of China and Japan, threats that became far more pronounced in WWIII. A sudden Chinese invasion from the Yalu river and naval invasions conducted by Japan via the East Sea were resisted for nearly two years before fortifications were overrun. China and Japan split the peninsula along the past lines of the DMZ, with the occupation lasting the duration of WWIII.

As each of the remaining great powers of the world turned on each other, Korea was caught in the crossfire of a separate conflict between the two Asian superpowers. Seoul was overrun by Chinese troops, decimating the city and destroying the bunker complexes that stretched far below the city's streets. In the nuclear conflict that destroyed most of the world, most attacks were focused on Seoul and the heartland cities of China and Japan. Busan was left relatively unharmed (outside of the nuclear winter and other such aftereffects) and its people retreated into the constructed bunker complexes.

In 2078, many left the bunkers, with the city of Busan partially intact, they began rebuilding. Korea, a leader in technological innovation before WWIII, had turned to the former ideals of technocracy and the possibilities such an ideology could bring. The survivors formed the Technocratic Republic of Korea, or TRK, developing new technology to establish themselves in the endless nuclear wastes.

After uniting with the EU, much to the Dutch people their chagrin, the lands seemed to fare quite well. Amsterdam was assigned as regional center of administration of the low lands and the Rhine was as bustling with trade as it could ever be. WWIII didn't effect the nation as much as others, due to the total apathy of the Dutch people to go to war. They instead were busying themselves with the coming apocalypse. An alliance between great powers was never meant to last, the Dutch realised this and thus prepared. Hoarding copious amounts of food and building tough shelters.

The nuclear onslaught the nation had to endure was terrible. Cities such as Amsterdam, Rotterdam and The Hague were struck and the nation wept for their fallen heritage. Many of the water defences had also been heavily damage. Until the end of the twenty first century, the nation was stuck licking its wounds from the nuclear onslaught, restoring all of its former lands and building more advanced ways of keeping both the sea and river at bay

The people that came into power are unknown to the commoners except the president, who has won the past few elections with landslide victories over his opponents. The Netherlands was transformed into the a nation focussed on production as well as scientific advancement. The agricultural sector soon got back to its former prestige, thus most manpower was dedicated to factories or other companies of the third sector. The president has also reintroduced a feeling of militarism to the county, keeping a standing army, navy and airforce at all times to protect the nation against outside threats. He has also introduced ludicrous policies, for example the "Three Child Act". where every household is required to have three or more children to receive services, the bigger families gain more support from the government.

As for the nations aspirations, it hopes to restore the Greater United Netherlands, controlling all of the BeNeLux, a bit of Germany and Northern France. The president has rambled on about this idea for years, the many microphones across the cities making his every word audible to the people. This very strict, but powerful and spirited nation is once more ready to take on the world.

The Philippines was able to weather the nuclear storm of WWIII much better than its northern Asian neighbors. This was thanks to the island nations status as an out of the way and still developing country to the far south. Regardless of this fact, a few of the countries military bases and cities were targeted due to the Philippines proximity to the Asian mainland.

Much of the population of the northern islands, where the majority of the missiles hit, was forced into bunkers and shelters to avoid the fallout from the strikes. The Government from the safety of their strongholds was only able to maintain control of Luzon immediately following WWIII. The thousands of islands south of Manila became thousands of small fiefdoms as surviving mayors, governors, and military officials seized territory in attempt to restore order. An era of warfare took hold in the south as these new warlords tried to expand their influence and power. Meanwhile in the North the people were becoming more and more frustrated with the inept government hiding underground.

At the same time thousands upon thousands of refugees from the hard hit areas of east and southeast Asia, most of which from China, began to land all across the country. Many western military forces, mainly from the United States, who were fighting on the mainland also retreated to the Philippines. An uneasy, but necessary truce between the government, refugees, and soldiers was kept for the purpose of mutual survival.

This status quo would last for years until a new leader was crowned over the battered city of Manila, where a short but bloody revolution took place that removed the old government and replaced it with what is today the Pearl Dynasty. The various factions that united under the the head of the dynasty all had reasons for this shift in governance. The refugees and foreigners benefited from this change as it removed an increasingly xenophobic leadership from power. The native people benefited by removing a corrupt government that worried more on their own survival than on its citizens.

Now at the start of the new century the Dynasty turns its gaze south to reclaim the entirety of the archipelago. Following the siege of Cebu, which absorbed the 2nd most powerful kingdom of the Philippines into the Dynasty, the new nation has solidified its reputation as a local power. The Dynasty following this victory has sent out radio broadcasts and messengers across the Philippines. The rumors being spread from island to island were about to become absolute truth. Stand with the Dynasty or be erased from this earth.

However, when the bombs came, they cared little for neither sovereignty nor empire; and just as the Ukrainians and Belorussians saw their nations eroded, so did they watch all of human society meet the same fate. Soon, the once passionate and intoxicating call for freedom was eroded away by radiation and debris.

The years after the bombs had the people of Ukraine thrown into chaos, for those who did not vaporize in the blast nor fade away from the radiation were thrust into a world of violence and savagery. No longer did the idea of a "Ukraine" really exist, the people broke down and forced into isolated, primitive settlements at the mercy of Demeter's will and Bandit gun. However, from these pathetic hamlets arose a great leader of men. Tumbling into a buried library while running from marauders, he came across an ancient text, ones whose words he could barely understand with his morphed dialect and uninspiringly low literacy. It told the tale of a great leader, an impassioned Idealogue, and a champion of his people. A man who wrenched power away from the brute and thief and uplifted the poverty-stricken masses.

Captivated by the tale, he read on, his mind yearning to know more about such a figure, ones who's words he thought, could help free his people from the boot of vile raiders and caravaneer extortionists. He read and read, working through the unfamiliar, ancient language, delving into not only takes of this figure but all the causes he stood for.

As he read, his perspectives began to change, influenced by the ancient writings; until soon, the man the blindly fell into this ruined building was no more. He vowed to reinvigorate the legacy of this man, the man who had finally given him a purpose.

Following the nuclear war that devastated the entire world, those of the rich, some high ranking military officers and royal families in the states of Malacca & Johor of Malaysia retreated to several underground vaults previously built by private companies as preparation for the catastrophe. The survivors emerged from their shelters in 2077 to find that some of the infrastructures surrounding them are still intact physically, albeit weakened due to a decade of no maintenance on them. They slowly rebuilt their states, with the Johor royal family claiming the throne to rule Johor state. Meanwhile in Malacca, a leader was appointed among the survivors, the young son of the previous head of state of Malacca.

After two years, both states have already restored most of their previous communication arrays and managed to contact each other. For the next decade they shared their resources before finally combining under the name of Federation of Malaya on the 31st of March 2089. The two leaders of respective states is at the helm of the government with a few important posts overseeing the economy, military, and public affairs of each state are respectively given to prominent individuals effectively acting as 'ministers'. By 2100, Malaya is now led by Tengku Mahmud Shah of Johor & Akram Aqeel of Malacca.
