In-character thread
When the Death Star was blasted, it was enough to silence the whole battle in an instant. It’s not like we had much choice; the flash was enough to temporarily blind everyone who had their eyes open. Turbolaser batteries and laser cannons fell silent, fighter craft reorganized. Most of the next 20 minutes was spent manoeuvring out of the way of the biggest debris. Among veterans of the battle, it is known as the Blind Truce.
I think nobody among us, at least not in my own fighter wing, had thought about what would happen after the Death Star was destroyed. In our minds, we assumed we would win. Thinking back, however strange it might sound, we believed that there would be a large title card in the sky saying ‘YOU WON’. Of course, as we now well known, that did not happen. The 20 minute truce became 30 minutes… then 45… then an hour…
With the destruction of the Executor, there was no clear command structure anymore among the imperials. While they were deciding who was in charge, both sides performed manoeuvres for the eventuality that the battle would recommence. At the beginning we feared that very eventuality, since the imperial fleet still outgunned us 20:1. But, as the day progressed, more and more Star Destroyers jumped out into hyperspace, and more and more of our own cruisers entered the system. Three hours after the destruction of the Death Star, the majority of the remaining Star Destroyers struck their colours. My guess is that with the shock of losing the Death Star and the emperor in the same instant, as well as Darth Vader, with half their fleet jumping away in disarray, they did not exactly know what they would be fighting for if they resumed, either tactically or strategically.
The next few hours were, and are still, the strangest I have come to witness in my years serving the rebellion. The Star Destroyers were reduced to skeleton crews, in case the imperial captains managed to rediscover their courage. Every two minutes a shuttle landed in our frigate’s hangar bay. Out strode hundreds of imperial marines and storm troopers, helmets and caps removed, disarmed. Some utterly spent and downtrodden, others clearly relieved and let up. One storm trooper even shook my hand and thanked me.
What I remember most about the fall of the empire was… how quiet it was. Admiral Ackbar, probably knowing more than he let on, set a course straight for Coruscant. While he might have figured that it would be mostly defenceless, we of course did not. We did not know what to expect above Imperial Centre. For all we knew, we would be blasted to bits as soon as we left hyperspace. Of course, Home One now housed the biggest collection of naval officers outside of Prefsbelt IV, and they were as much guests as they were hostages. Still, our Nebulon B only housed pilots, sailors and troopers. We wondered if they would be as kind to us.
Luckily, when we fell out of hyperspace above Coruscant, we were not met with a blast of turbolasers. The imperial naval garrison had been stripped in order to strengthen the forces at Endor, and now there were only a few Star Destroyers left. The governor of the planet surrendered in return for keeping his position during the transition. The imperial army units defected soon after, and managed to arrest and execute a lot of courtesans before we even managed to touch down our first transports. I guess they were just as happy as we were that the imperial navy lost its position of power, and they wanted to show how willing they were to cooperate.
We have been in orbit around Coruscant for two weeks now. Slowly, the situation has begun to take shape. The more days pass, the more we realise that it was not as simple as destroying the emperor and breaking his fleet. We all assumed that things would revert to the way we wanted it to be… not realising that what everyone wanted is as different as night is to day. Politics was not a topic among rebels. We all assumed it went without saying. Now we are not rebels anymore, and we are waking up to the realisation that we would have done well to at least discuss for a moment what we were fighting for.

Hello and welcome to this; a political roleplay about the rise of the New Republic in the Star Wars universe. First things first: this is neither a legends nor a canon roleplay. Rather, this roleplay takes the original trilogy and the prequels, and builds further on that legacy. That way, you are allowed a lot of freedom in this interesting time in galactic politics, as long as it adheres to strict movie canon.
This roleplay will mainly focus on a theme of disillusion. The empire is defeated, the rebels stand totally victorious, and yet, the end is not in sight. Unlike what Return of the Jedi seemed to imply, the death of an empire did not immediately herald freedom and democracy. Unlike Legends, however, this roleplay will also not focus on the civil war dragging on, and the splintering of the imperials. The empire has been taken over, now the politics begin. And rebels are increasingly finding out that the people they thought of as their brothers and sisters hold dramatically different views from their own.
In this here roleplay you will be able to take on any named or original character, as long as they have political relevance. And that political relevance here is construed very broadly. Even if you do not hold an official position within the New Republic, there are ways to influence those politics. However, I will try to achieve a broad representation of players in the various factions, and I will only allow imperial warlords when there are enough players in the New Republic itself.
The New Republic is politically splintered into many factions. While I will describe some factions, you are free to think of your own. I am also asking anyone to think about more issues the galaxy has to face. The list below is just a small number of the issues currently being discussed, and there is a lot more, even when not considering that the galaxy still needs to be run.
I won't be taking on a character, but I will be running the universe behind the scenes based on the choices your characters make. Realistic simulation and narrative considerations will be equally important here.
