How to make this legislation 'legal'? [Abortion w/exceptions

Postby Jordavia » Wed Feb 19, 2020 3:03 pm

Hi, I would like to know how to make the following legislation 'legal'. Although it is branded illegal by 4 people, the supporters outnumber (however, it is not enough). I am very positive that if this is seen as legal, then it would reach the floor.

Recognising that abortion is a leading factor of death.

Understanding that rape, accidental teenage pregnancies, the child's medical condition or the mothers medical condition could be damaging to both of the bodies.

Also understanding that abortion may have an emotional penalty on the mothers somehow, thus leading many women to support the idea of illegalising abortion but with exceptions.

Aware that the ban may take away considerable amount of liberty from said mother.

The General Assembly Hereby Declares,

1. Illegalisation of abortion [with exceptions] being restored in the interest of moral decency and decreasing death counts dramatically internationally.

2. Abortion being available to mothers with serious medical conditions, the child having a serious medical condition, the mother being at risk somehow because of the child, accidental teenage pregnancy and rape.

3. Economically unstable mothers given funding directly by the government, charities or private institutions.

4. If mother is seen unfit to keep the child due to economical, behavioural, serious mental or any other problems, the government shall take the child in open arms and provide said children with all necessities till a suitable family is found.

OOC: Welcome to the GA. Please see the stickied rules and passed resolutions threads at the top of this forum. In particular, note GAR#286. This cannot be made legal without first repealing that resolution.

OOC: You probably shouldn't try to repeal it. Many have already tried and failed.

The usual advice from regulars to new players is to participate in debates and learn the ropes before trying to draft your own proposal or repeal.

Pretty sad to see that the WA is not balanced politically

Yeah I saw that there has been about 50+ attempts and all have failed. I woulf still like to repeal, though. Is there a way around NatSov?

OOC:
If you're asking whether it's possible to make an argument against them that's not illegal, yeah, it is.

As for actually doing it, please reconsider. We all have better things to do than another abortion clusterfuck.

Other than abortion, what problem should be pressed in your opinion?

We're not here to give you ideas. And asking for ideas is very poor form because usually that means you are writing a proposal for the sole purpose of getting a badge (also known as badge-hunting).

Well I'm obviously not going to argue for or against something I don't believe in. Nothing comes to mind so thats why in my opinion it is good to ask questions for sufgestions.

If nothing comes to mind, that means you don't need to be writing a resolution.

I don't know the GA's. Where can I read some of them. If I come to a disagreement I may try to repeal

If you don't know the GA, you shouldn't be attempting to write a resolution. You can find passed resolutions pinned near the top of this subforum.

People won't learn how the GA works without engaging with it.

This proposal contradicts previous legislation that creates an unrestricted right for people to get abortions. The only way to fix that is to repeal the two pieces of legislation which do that. One would also have to win that repeal battle which is not going to happen.

NatSov in the rule means facile claims to national sovereignty and not arguments on moral reasons or similar things. Read the previous resolutions for inspiration. Don't plagiarise them.

All resolutions, including the repealed ones, are found here. You can begin reading through them, there's over 400 though so be warned there's a lot of reading.

I strongly recommend against trying to repeal anything in the first 50 resolutions, any resolution that has lasted that long without being repealed has probably survived for very good reasons (or is otherwise extremely hard to repeal) and not really the kind of thing you want to tackle as a new player. If you see a resolution that has been repealed that you liked, please ask if it has been replaced first by a more adequate resolution.
