Prison tatts should be illegal

While Tattoos do mark you forever as a person, I personally have to say, the freedom of choice of what they do in Prison is to each their own. No harm in them getting what they want. But then again it would suck to get a Tattoo in prison and then become a lawful citizen again only to have that same Tattoo as a reminder of who you were and the memories of being in Prison. Or it could be a good thing to remind you to not do stupid crap to go back as well.

Freedom to this or that is weak in a prison environment. We already deny them so many rights, why not this one too?

Also I repeat, they're not really free to choose when they're at the mercy of other criminals.

Got any evidence for the claim that all these people are being tattooed against their will instead of being active participants in getting/wanting the tattoo?

Also the "we deny them so many rights, why not this one too?" argument is perhaps the shittiest argument I've ever heard. We should be redesigning the prison system so that prisoners don't have so many of their rights stripped away - particularly for as long as we continue mass incarceration practices and the majority of people in prison don't belong there (that's a whole argument for another day). But no, we should not be denying them more rights than we already are.

Why? Because prison tattoos mark you forever as a person who went to jail.
And firstly, that's nothing to be proud of.
BUT more importantly, prisoners are not free to make such a choice. There is pressure from people who might kill them, to get a tattoo
And finally it is contrary to the purpose of prison to make the prisoner pay their debt and THEN go back to being a lawful citizen. They can't do that if they have the mark of some prison gang on them.

I would think that every part of getting a tattoo in prison is already not permitted by the prison.

Also, tattoos aren't permanent. They can be removed or modified.
