It's been a month now, so I might make another thread or simply leave this to die since I just found out few people are vegetarians.

I mean, we've got a looming meat shortage. You might as well keep it going here.

Unless you would rather see them culled immediately after the farm is stopped being used?

People castrate sheeps to control breeding, so it's not really taking long time to farm animal to go extinct.

:o

In a general note, I am a vegetarian. No meat nor fish. I guess some here would call me a herbivore though :p

You can make some new poll related to plant-based diet / cruelty free lifestyle, in same thread, so it will give people more to add or discuss.

I understand why you would, honestly. Still, I expected slightly more. I do think that it's time to make a new poll, but I'm not going to make one.

I'm more than happy to discuss vegetarian cooking, nutrition, etc, without being a vegetarian, for the simple reason that I don't eat meat every day for both cost and ascetical reasons. I'm not particularly interested in an ethical vegan discussion thread, though.
I'd imagine others are similar.

Eating a lot of vegetables is usually better than having a lot of meat, all things being equal. However, I'm not seeing much evidence for a plant only diet being sustainable for the long term as opposed to a plant majority diet (unless I'm mistaken). Most if not all of the few plant sources of protein, such as beans or legumes are phytoestrogens from what I can tell.

That's specific to soybeans, IIRC.

What do we call sentient?

https://api.nationalgeographic.com/dist ... -over-ants

But I still like to eat fungus...(moldy cheeses, mushrooms)

The main problem for me with vegetarian diet is the lack of gluten free protein sources. (Not for me, my eldest child who doesn't like unseasoned tofu)
And yes the taste of (raw) meat. I'll eat insects, fish, snake, deer, swine (game), kangaroos, horses, sheep, cows, pigs, fish, duck, fungi, shellfish, chicken, pheasant, quail, goose, goat, rabbit, hare, crocodile.

I love veggies too. Had common purslain the other day. Watercress salad is to die for.

Parsnip, raapstelen ( https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brassica_rapa )
Chenopodium bonus-henricus, chard. And all other better known vegetables.

It's why I also eat seitan, which is wheat based. And I tend to have a snack pack of nuts around the house. Brazil nuts are awesome.

Or protein rich bread, and then some hummus, or peanut butter. Yum.

Hm. yes. It seems like this thread isn't doing very well. It's quite disappointing to see that there are still so many non-vegetarians out there. Well, good luck trying to find a new topic to discuss.

I don’t think being a complete vegetarian is the best choice, rather eating a plant majority diet with meat has worked well for me. I eat fish and poultry almost every meal, but incorporate lots of vegetables into it, and if I want to snack, I go for fruits rather than junk food. It’s been working well, and I still occasionally splurge on red meats when going out, but overall I’d much prefer this to going full on vegetarian from a health perspective.

That being said, people have other reasons for being vegetarian as well, animal rights, environment, etc.

Hmm, this thread has died.

That's honestly a good thing since I might be able to rewrite the OP which seems a little bloggy.

So, now what? Lock this and new thread, or continue?

Hmm, alright.

Is a new poll necessary?

You should have asked in Moderation about reviving it. We have a food discussion thread now.

My bad. I've seen the food discussion thread but wasn't sure if that had anything to do with this thread.
