Giant in the Playground
To Learn, one must sometimes stray off the lit path and into the dark.

It started with the Aberration.

The Overmind had found something, something valuable enough to dispatch an entire fleet after. Normally, such a movement would go unnoticed, yet, something most likely unprecedented happened.

A behemoth detonation occurred, and the Aberration fleet was obliterated. While traveling in FTL. This event would draw the attention of the entire supercluster, and some would be able to trace the detonation to its source, and dispatch a fleet to investigate.

Arriving far out into the void of Axiom, beyond where most other inhabitants had ever gone before, these intrepid explorers will encounter a dead world, belonging to an empire fielding technologies beyond their greatest fantasies. Yet, dark forces stir within, and as they explore the remnants of this once-proud megastructure, they will encounter mysterious constructs, elaborate mechanisms, and, perhaps, things that would've been better off left in their graves.

Hello there, welcome to Giant in the Playground!
In this RP, you play as a force of intrepid explorers from your nation to investigate a derelict Arkeyanan Megastructure known as an Orbital. Well, this was an orbital, it's been nearly destroyed by some unknown disaster. As you explore, you will encounter various "Events", decided by me, the GM. These events will be scaled and determined in part by your nation's power and it's nature, so a violent, low-tech nation may encounter issues that need to be dealt with using dakka, or, in an alternate fashion, with thinking, and a pacifistic, high-tech nation may encounter events based around cleverness and interfacing with repowered technology.

The Important Stuff
So, before we go any further, let me tell you about the setting of this RP.
You are on an Arkeyanan Orbital, a ring-shaped megastructure ten million kilometers in diameter and three thousand wide from edge-to-edge of its surface, and it is surrounded by a debris field stretching for a cubic AU outwards around it. Therefore, you have a lot of ground, and by extent, tons of possible events, to cover for the RP. Now, here are the basic details that you must know and acknowledge:

Vacuum and Temperature
For the most part, the Orbital and the surrounding debris field are both in vacuum, and at the background temperature of deep space, although some areas such as arcologies may be damaged yet still retaining atmosphere and heat, these are few and far in between.

Gravity
Initially, the Orbital relied on spin-gravity. It still does now, but has lost it's momentum to the point where rotation creates gravity equivalent to that of earth's moon. In some areas, backup AG has kicked in to restore Earth-level Gravity, but these are few and far in between, although, perhaps, one may be able to repower sections and restore gravity further.

Language
Arkeyanan Language is, for the participants in this RP, a never-before-seen alien language, so do not immediately decipher if when you encounter a holopanel or something with Arkeyanan writing on it.

Canonicity
Keep in mind that this RP is Non-canon, ergo, whatever you do here, is not to be added to your lore.

Reinforcements
If you want to reinforce your presence here, please do bring it up with me first, and I'll either accept or deny the request.

And finally, Participation
For those of you who didn't read the title, this RP is Invite-Only, if you wish to participate, shoot me a TG.

On to the Rules
OOC Rules:
~Standard Etiquette is required; no flaming, harassment, etc will be tolerated.
~My word is law, as is the word of any Co-Ops I may appoint.
~Do not be overly graphic. Looking at you, Kem
IC Rules:
~Standard Etiquette; no Godmodding, one-liners, Metagaming, etc will be tolerated.
~You are not invincible. Characters can and possibly will die if they make mistakes.
~Your Choices have consequences in this RP. Think before you make a decision.

So, in order to compensate for the sheer amount of ground to cover in the RP, I have divided up the Orbital into several "Places of Interest", which are listed below.

The Frozen Plains
Across the few intact stretches of land on the inner side of the Orbital, lay the Frozen plains. At three degrees kelvin, they are marred by immense chunks of ice, once bodies of water that were launched upward, froze, and came back down to shatter the landscape as immense bergs, some the size of entire glaciers. AG Backups have engaged here, so be aware of more descending chunks of ice or falling debris/ships that strayed too close to the field.

The Shattered Mountains
Once, as a safety feature, the Orbital had immense "Bulkhead" mountain ranges stretching from Rim to Rim in order to prevent the loss of air in the event of one segment's compromising. However, some almighty force has shattered them. Immense, twisted, half-molten hulks remain, the jagged metal teeth of underlying structures poking out. While there are some buildings around on their slopes, do not expect them to be in good shape.

The Cliffs
On the rims of the Orbital, are the immense Rimwalls. Hundreds of kilometers tall, they retained the atmosphere back during the megastructure's life. Now, like their mountainous counterparts, they've been broken and shattered. No AG backups are active, although some cliff cities remain intact. If one could reach here...

The Undercities
On the exterior surface of the Orbital, sprawling, destroyed "Undercities" stretch across its surface like elaborate engravings. The potential for salvageable technology, and even survivors, is high here. However, AG is spotty, and one must beware of collapsing structures, along with...other threats.

The Framework
In the destroyed portions of the Orbital, the enigmatic Framework is visible. Meter-sized support structures consisting of some mysterious, crystalline material stretching throughout its structure, their material strength is unrivaled.

Centerpoint
At the center of the Orbital is a single, large station. While no evidence of habitation exists, this place maybe some sort of control center, from which the Orbital's systems could be accessed.

The Debris Field
Extending in a cubic AU around the Orbital, is the immense Debris Field. Ranging from small bits of shrapnel to entire derelict stations, there is potential for various events here.

Now that that's out of the way, let the RP begin!

Al-Sele Research Vessel Danyal

Keel had his elbows at his desk, with Hussein at his side, if the radio frequency had been displayed correctly, they were nearing the orbital. Al-Sele had doubted the nature of the trip as being purely discovery, but Keel had convinced them otherwise, they weren’t as clever as he thought them, despite being part of the organization himself.
He had been sent on a long, endearing and piteous mission of searching for long-lost religious artifacts within the derelict megastructure. He knew the journey would be long and there may not be any rewards awaiting him, but he had trusted Seles assurance that this complex held the long-lost secrets of the Sheebrews, as unlikely as it may seem.
He glanced the map once more. An orange beam appeared, meaning that they were within orbit, the dropships would lift by the hour if conditions were right.
Hussein turned and nodded to the seated bridge crew of the Danyal, indicating that they should brake and await further instruction. He turned back to the backside of Keel.

“We’ve finally arrived, after years of planning, courting and appointment. What have you to say, Keel?”

“This will be a new age for Sheeb, a new day for Sheebrews, and a new time for Sele. May we look upon this day with ethereal judgement, may be they merciful or seeking revenge. Hussein, the moments we stand here together are the moments that make history, and the proud men and women we have brought along with us must never know the real reasoning behind this foray into unknown territory. Along with this, I believe just getting here has earned you and I both a promotion to First Cross, in which case, congratulations.”

“As the same to you, Keel. Should I call for the Imam? He wanted to be here for the first load of men to be carried down.”

“We still have a few hours to do so, but let him know before we forget.”

The arrival of the Octavian fleet

The Octavian fleet came out of hyperdrive and began their approach to the Orbital. The OIS Judicator Ka´Burrst class was apart of this fleet, tasked with carrying the Mechanator contingent sent to investigate the orbital. Every Mechanator on board was currently checking their weapons ensuring that they wouldn´t have any issues however rare that such issues may be and perhaps sending a few prayers up to the Grey Entity as they mentally braced themselves for whatever may lie on this unknown station. The Scout Drones were being calibrated for potential Zero-G flying and the transports were being refueled and running weapon tests to ensure that the mission, should it come to it, was ready for combat. Grand Mechanator H´Krell stood on the bridge watching his men prepare, studying them for any signs of weakness in the face of this mission ahead of them. Though H´Krell wouldn´t normally come on such missions it would be a massive morale boost for the men to know that their very own leader had touched down with them, and sure if he were to die it would have the adverse effect, but then again he had his consciousness backed up in the hundreds so hopefully if he were to fall that would cushion the blow. Thinking of morale his mind shifted to the other leader on board...Tal´Talen. She wasn´t H´Krell´s favorite person nor was she even someone he tolerated; he could not say that he didn´t understand why she was in her position, it was just that she was so insufferable and frankly edgy and it certainly didn't help that her mental state was always in a questionable state. Talen herself was staring into the black void of space in the middle of one of her biting fits. Honestly, she was fine with it as it made for a good excuse to make people stop talking to her as she could easily fake one, but was still a bother as it partly obscured the artificial skin covering part of her face.

The AI systems onboard were functioning perfectly and so conducted a scan as was protocol and as the pulse went out something was found floating in space, perhaps another spacecraft? The AIs decided to send a message to the craft instead of immediately attacking or informing the Mechanators on board which, to be honest, was the same option. A message was composer within seconds by the AI and promptly sent out a message to the unknown craft

Hello there

This system has been chosen as a restricted area as there is a scientific inquiry located here by the Mechanator corps. Whoever you are, please return to your home system. Should you refuse there may be consequences especially if you are an Octavian citizen. Thank you and remember, leave immediately.

The AI satisfied with this continued to manage the ship and ensured the ship was still moving onward while the Mechanators below were completely unaware. If the AI could hope, they would hope that they would not need to informed of this small bump in the road.

Pinnacle news:BREAKING NEWS: The Paramount, the Dearest Leader and Spearhead of the Synthetic Revolution has been confirmed to be dead in the Imperial Palace. The interim government of the Mechanator Council has found the cause of death to be a rare failing of the consciousness backup system combined with a simultaneous accident leading to the death of The Paramount’s main consciousness. Grand Mechanator H’Krell has declared a decade of mourning.
