I have to be honest, the last time I flew to the US I was a bit irked about having to pay 14 bucks and spend 10 minutes on my laptop when the time before I didn't have to. It's just a silly annoyance.

If it makes you feel better I'm sure a fair amount of Americans will have the same problem now.

What are they gonna do, go see some other Eiffel Tower, Colloseum or Brandenburg Gate?

Before the US brought in their system it was just a little card you filled in on the plane. This is just tit for tat.

So instead of filling in the little card on the plane you fill it in beforehand and pay a small fee. Titty for tatty more like.

Still less annoying then going through US Customs.

Seems like a minor annoyance. If you've invested the time and money to visit Europe, I don't think you'll be deterred by a ten minute security check and a 7 Euro fee.

I do not think it is necessary nor do I think it is necessary for EU citizens to have to get ESTA to go to America. But I'm a permanent resident of Germany so I don't have to worry about it.

Eh, I don't care. Iceland and Norway are the only two European countries that interest me and neither are in the EU.

Sounds very similar to the e-Visa stuff I had to do when before traveling to India late last year.
Cheaper too.

Speaking of, let me know if you are ever around Berlin, we can get a beer :) I might even entice Laerod to join.

It's rather upsetting that security is being tightened. I hope this is merely a tit for tat measure to give the finger for similar measures imposed on EU citizens, and not a sign for tighter border controls more generally.

US Customs is such a pain in the ass. Every time I traveled to Europe I didn't get asked anything except for "how long are you staying?" But going back to America, it's always something. And I don't even mind answering the stupid questions but they can be real assholes. Last time my wife and I went to America together he was just asking us stuff and she answered one question and I answered the next and he rudely said "Which one of your is going to answer the questions then?" I don't know, why don't you say who you would prefer to answer your questions?

I also once had a genius who was scrutinizing my prescription medication and he asked "did you get this in Germany?" The bottle said Walgreens and it was in English and there was a Florida address on it.

Handing over a South African passport during the ebola crisis after a trip to Canada was fun.

Ah yes, the famous Germany English speaking city of Florida, Baden-Württemberg

People saying this won't lower tourism at all are vastly underestimating the fierce spirit of persistent laziness that is an inextricable part of the American people.

Mate, this is the first year in almost half a decade I haven't gone over the US-Canadian border at least twice a year.

I really loved getting grilled for about ten minutes by a customs agent who seriously did not believe that I wasn't bringing anything back that I had bought in Europe. The guy literally asked about that in 15 different ways, in addition to the three or four questions that basically ask "are you a terrorist?".

The Americans too lazy to fill out a simple form are already the ones not going overseas.

Good, less tourists, so hopefully less airbnb which will result in lower rents.

Huzzah :)
