"But how? Were they not destroyed by the heroes of old?"
"Apparently, some have survived."
The StoryWhen the universe was still young, the two brother gods, Nhyeus and Hyrodal, hoisted the continent of Cezari from the sea with four great chains. It was to be the place where their creations would thrive in harmony, in the night and in the day. Nhyeus claimed dominion over the sun, while Hyrodal claimed the moon. They maintained a delicate balance over all things. However, this fragile peace did not last.
Nhyeus built a great forge and from it, the first men were born. They could think and speak like the gods, yet were mortal like the other beasts around them. Hyrodal was furious as humanity discovered the element of fire, and used it to dwell in the night, and build colossal structures that displaced countless other creatures. In response, he used his blood to give life to the Fauns within his bottomless cauldron. However, the Fauns chose to follow the ways of man, refusing to worship Hyrodal. The dark god's fury only grew with time. The Monstrosi were then spawned from the cauldron, terrible creatures with a ravenous hunger for the flesh of humankind.
And so, the Beast War began as the dark god sought to wipe out the race that Nhyeus loved so dearly. The war went on for unknowable ages, driving humanity closer and closer to the brink of extinction. What remained of the species took shelter in the largest city to ever exist on the continent, simply called Moj. It stretched far into the heavens and stood for a millennium before its walls finally fell. It is said that the first Necromancers betrayed the city and destroyed the walls themselves. Nhyeus sent a Cataclysm to cleanse the world of the Monstrosi, preserving a select few humans led by heroes Lidas and his younger brother, Remansis. The Cataclysm damaged reality to the point of releasing a third god from the abyss, Ophioch the Serpent and Judge of the Dead.
The human brothers fought together in the last battle of the Beast War, when Hyrodal himself appeared to exterminate the survivors. Instead, Lidas slashed the ankles of the dark god with a magic sword, bringing him down so that the young Remansis could blind him, and therefore banish him from the mortal plane. Lidas received most of the praise, and was even crowned as the first king for acting as Nhyeus' destined champion. Remansis decided to take his followers north to settle in a kingdom of their own, yet his deep jealousy corrupted him. Hyrodal spoke to him from the shadows and twisted his mind, transforming him into a powerful mage and the first pharaoh.
It has been nearly two centuries since the Cataclysm. The Acenath Civil War has concluded with a decisive victory for the dark god's cult, and with the ban on Nhyeus worship throughout the empire brutally enforced, the Order of the Necromancers has risen again to new prominence. Their ultimate goal is to restore Hyrodal's eyes so that his conquest of Cezari may continue. They are opposed by the Light Raiders, an elite caste of warriors who originally served King Lidas I, and now exist to purge the forces of darkness.
The many nations of Cezari find themselves readying for war as the Necromancers spread their wicked influence. Some even claim that an army of the dead is being raised to crush those who foolishly dwell in the light. Whatever the case may be, the conflict will be immense. Loyalties will be tested, families will be torn, and new heroes will rise to serve their god in battle. The fate of the world rests in the hands of a chosen few.
