Welcome to 'Prefeton', my latest attempt at a character RP. This RP is a coming-of-age story where you will write a high-school aged character who will gradually develop extraordinary powers while, at the same time, you unravel the mysteries as to what makes your home town so... unusual. This is not a sandbox RP though the actions of your characters will have ramifications.

At the start of the RP your character's powers will be relatively weak; however, there will be major time-skips which it is assumed that you have improved your current powers or developed new ones.

The RP will be set on the fictional Prefer Isle, dominated by the small town of Prefeton where your character lives which sits off the coast of Maine.

If you've RPed with me before you will know that I have a habit of writing my RPs together, and this one is no exception (and will fit into the extended 'Andromedaverse'), though there is no need whatsoever to go and read any of my other extant RPs or do any background reading - in fact, I would thoroughly recommend that you don't!

Finally, the RP will remain open to newcomers right up until the final chapter and I am always happy to give you a potted summary of what is going on.

If you are interested in joining, click on the great big 'OOC' button above and wade on in!

Chapter One: Land of Confusion
Which is, also great theme music...

The young woman in uniform was sent flying by the explosion, flying across the front room of the old derelict house in a shower of shattered glass and debris. Her flight was broken by the kitchen counter, knocking the wind from her. She looked stunned, confused, but there was a man there as well. Black hair, Eastern-Mediterranean features, the beginnings of a beard forming on his face. He reached down for the woman, concern in his dark eyes as he helped her up to her feet, "We need to run!" he gestured at the doorway.

The young woman looked familiar though Atalia couldn't quite put her finger on who she was. She was sure she knew her from somewhere. The woman's radio went off, words coming in a language Atalia was unfamiliar with, though she understood every word as if she were, "Sergeant, get the Professor out of here, we'll hold them off..."

The motioned at the door again, urging the injured woman forward, "We need to go, they'll be on top of us in a moment!"

For a moment his eyes met Atalia's and the scene dissolved. Instead she found herself staring into twin dark pits - the sunken eye pieces of a mask. The person in the mask was talking, his voice hollow and echoing from behind the wall of metal, “You claim to come from a planet called 'Earth' which is not on any of our star charts. You are reportedly a scientist. What is your name?”

There was a woman, a prisoner supported by two people in black armour. They looked like something out of Star Wars. She croaked something, though Atalia missed it, it was so quiet, but for a moment Atalia wasn't listening anyway, her eyes were drawn to the great vista in the window behind the man. It was space, but space like she'd never seen it before. Space unimpeded by the glare of city lights or the atmosphere of a planet. It was hypnotically beautiful. Dimly she became aware the man behind the mask was talking again, "... as a scientist on that ship, I want you to explain to me how you managed to bring your ship here.”

“I’m not that kind of scientist.” The prisoner pleaded, “I’m a biologist, I was studying mice, I don’t even know what happened myself -”

“In which case,” the masked man replied, cutting off her babble, “You are of no use to me.” Something about his tone suggested he knew more than he was letting on. His hand went to a blade at his hip. Atalia's heart leaped in her chest...

Everything was connected.

... she lurched forward, sitting bolt upright in bed, covered in sweat, the duvet tangled around her like ivy around a tree. It had happened again. It wasn't real. None of it was real. But what isn't real, Atalia? She hated dreams like this and they had been coming more and more frequently: vivid, violent and hinting at some inscrutable truth. People would think she was nuts if they knew.

She reached across to the bedside table, turning the alarm clock so it faced her. 7am. Atalia groaned, falling back onto her bed. It was way too early... but there was no way she was going to get back to sleep after that dream. Maybe she needed to see a shrink or something? She wasn't sure. Once people were a bit drunk at the party tonight she'd have a go at talking to one of her friends. Maybe that would make her feel better. It was probably her diet or something.

Disentangling herself from her bedclothes, Atalia crept into the bathroom and switched on the shower, washing away the sweat, though none of the memories of that strange, unfading dream. She stayed in the shower for a while, letting the warmth of the water sweep over her before eventually switching it off. The water was pleasant, but she couldn't push the dream from her mind. There was only one thing that could do that. Wrapping herself in a towel, she padded back to her room and dressed, pulling on a warm pair of trousers and a puffer jacket before retrieving her recurve bow from the bottom of her cupboard.

The slow, methodical process of clipping the limbs on, then stringing the bow began to settle her mind, though it wasn't until she was outside, falling into the familiar rhythm of archery, that Atalia finally began to feel calm again. Draw. Anchor. Aim. Release. There was something calming, almost meditative about the process and within a short while all thoughts of the dream were gone. Atalia was one with the bow and the bow was one with her.

That evening, 6:00pm, unnamed beach north of town...

Atalia was one of the first to arrive at the party. It was her party after all. It was a good location, isolated by a stretch of woods from the town itself meaning that no neighbours would call in to complain about the noise. There was room, as it got darker, to light a fire on the beach and, best of all, there wasn't anything on this side of the island, so there was no reason for any boring killjoys to show up. Of course, there was always a chance someone would break curfew with their parents and then someone might come looking out in one of the 'usual spots', in which case the party would be over, but there were hours to go before that!

A few of the guys from the football team were huddled around one guy's car. She stopped by to say hello, flirted a bit, but not so long that they got any ideas, then left them to it, wandering out onto the beach with a bottle of cheap bourbon and a plastic cup tucked under one arm. She wandered out to where she could sit in the sand watching the waves crash against the beach, creeping to few inches from her outstretched boots before retreating back to the sea.

Last night's dream was still eating away at her. Of course, it was total nonsense... unless it wasn't. She'd been having quite a few dreams recently. The woman in the uniform figured quite prominently. She was annoyingly familiar looking; if she could only figure out who she was, maybe all of this nonsense would stop? Sighing, Atalia drew the bottle out from under her arm, pouring herself a couple of shot's worth of liquor which she downed in one, before immediately pouring herself another. If she couldn't clear her mind, at least she could get drunk, "Hey!" she yelled up the beach to the people with cars. Who needed a car if you were never going to leave the island? "Someone want to put on some music? Make it something good," she smiled sweetly up the slope.

Flashback - Ascot Rider and Jack Brekker

Ascot Rider

Ascot Rider walked up to Jack Brekker, clad in his usual black-and-white clothing and footwear. Trying to suppress his nervousness, he cleared his throat and said to the young man as the latter was about to leave the room allotted to the GSA Club:

“You’re cool, I’m cool. You’re hot, I’m hot. We both want to be the coolest kids in school, but there’s no room for the both of us… Unless we date. As boyfriends, not only do we make each other happy, but we also ensure we don’t compete with each other for the attention of the class. And I do like you - I find you to be one of the hottest people close to my age I’ve seen except for celebrities. So what do you say, want to go out with me?”

A slight frown to communicate nervousness, to say that yes, he meant it and was actually revealing vulnerability to prove his sincerity.

Jack Brekker

Jack took a look at the kid standing in front of him. He cast around in his memory for a split second and recognized him as Ascot Rider. He… didn’t actually know that much about him, but he did appreciate the straightforward style.

“Well, this is certainly the most forward someone’s been with me. I dig it, nice and simple. Well Ascot, I like you. I may not know you the best, but I definitely think I’d like to get to know you. So, yes. Answer’s yes, I’d love to date you. Actually, I got a great idea for a first date. This one chick I know, Atalia? She’s throwing a party next week. On the quiet side of the island. How about we meet up there? Or, I could pick you up, if you so prefer,” he said with a smile that oozed with all the charm he could drum up.

Ascot Rider

“Yeah, you can pick me up,” Ascot carefully didn’t attach an exclamation point there, although the smile on his face showed his joy. “And sure, the party will be a great opportunity to date.”

His smile widened, “Want to hold hands while waiting for next week, though? I want to do that, plus it’d be a sign of our new ‘alliance’, no, partnership...”

Jack Brekker

Jack’s smile turned a little more… genuine, as Ascot started to smile. Dude was definitely gonna be a fun time.

“Hey man, let’s call it what it is. Relationship,” he said as he took Ascot’s hand.

Ascot Rider

Ascot’s shoulders relaxed and his eyes opened wide happily as he felt it, the warmth of Jack’s hand. He then said, “I’m happy.”

Present Day

Ascot Rider

Ascot was now waiting for Jack to pick him up - Will the latter be using a car? Either way, he was in another set of black-and-white clothing, with his hair combed and slightly gelled. He also had his wallet and smartphone in case he needed anything, and his cynicism had retreated for now. That said, he wanted to ask his boyfriend about something: Will the latter still like him if he revealed he had powers? Or did Jack manifest his own abilities as well? Knowing him, the latter probably had, but Ascot wasn’t sure.

Jack Brekker

Jack turned the key on his car, his hair still slightly damp from the shower and smelling of cologne. As the engine of the old 76’ Impala, inherited from his grandpa, turned over, he made one last check that he had everything he needed. Keys? Check. Wallet? Check. He took a second to make sure the contents were secure, not the least of which was his fake ID and shoved it back in his pocket. Checking his phone to make sure he had Ascot’s address right, he set off, pedal not quite to the metal. He fixed the collar of his grey button up shirt as he drove, and fidgeted with his glasses. He was nervous, that was for sure, but at the same time weirdly confident. After about 10 minutes, he pulled into Ascot’s driveway, and walked up to the front door, giving it a knock.

Ascot Rider

Ascot opened the door happily, his short-ish frame looking up at Jack as he opened his mouth to say, “You came. Thank you very much. Now, can i take the front seat?”

Jack Brekker

“Of course. Hop in, your chariot awaits,” he said with a genuine smile. As the two got into the car, he turned to Ascot. “Now, I know this girl. Knowing her, she’ll have gotten her hands on some booze for this particular affair. I’d suggest a guy your size keep your drinking light, if you’re gonna drink at all,” he said with slightly more seriousness than he usually had. It was about as serious as he got. “As for myself, I won’t be drinking. Like to keep sharp.”

In that moment, Jack made a decision. It was a decision he’d been considering all week, one he’d definitely thought through. Mostly. Not at all.

“Before we get there, I got something to show you,” said Jack as he picked his wallet out of his pocket. “Just, don’t freak out,” he said as he felt the now familiar numbing sensation in his arm as the wallet fell through his now nonexistent hand. “Surprise,” he said with a nervous grin.

Ascot Rider

Ascot snickered, and said, “I was afraid for nothing. I know I can’t show you proof in this enclosed car, but I can apparently make food rot and metal rust when I touch those - Not all the time, of course, only when I will it to rot.”

Jack Brekker

But, if he got something too… maybe we’re not the only ones?, he thought to himself for a moment. Then he let out a laugh, of relief if of nothing else. “Holy hell, I spent the last week worrying about that. Well, that’s a weight off my chest, I suppose. Rotting, eh? Hell of a party trick,” he said as he spotted the party scene. He pulled off the road, far enough that the car wasn’t immediately visible from the road, not that he was worried anyone would see it.

“Well, we’re here. What say we raise some hell,” he said as he got out of the car.

Ascot Rider

A shit-eating grin, as Ascot undid his seatbelt and got out of the car, before taking a random twig and rotting it into black dust. Best to prove that one did have that power, after all. Then he said to Jack, “I’ll be following your lead - What’s the plan, my dear Danny Phantom?”

Hopefully the reference was not too dated.

Jack Brekker

“Danny Phantom, eh? I like it. Sounds cooler than Jack, for sure. Now, how about we introduce ourselves to hostess?” said Jack as he approached Atalia, a friendly smile on his face and leading Ascot by the hand.

Nikolai Sapohznik

As Ascot and Jack came out of their car with due mutual affection for another as per their intimate relationship, another person had come to the beach from, grinning toothily at the couple that had just arrived at about the same time. Frost creeped in minimal force in his wake, forming a faint trail of ice and winter incarnate. His every breath was a meeting of warm air and cold wind, every step a crunch of solidified water vapour. It was the kid known in town as the boy that the grownups love so much. Nikolai Sapoznikh, great-grandson of Jakov Sapoznikh, who was the head of their clan that fled from persecution from the Russian Empire into the safety of the United States of America. Nikolai himself was already visible to the two who led each other by the hand; while his rich brown hair fluttered in the wind, his attire seemed entirely out of place for a beach party. He wore ankle high black rubber boots, black pants, a grey trench coat and a black shirt within, completing the look with a grey ushanka and a red scarf. By all accounts, it would seem that he had no intention of actually swimming: maybe he just wanted some barbecue? Or was he here to have some girl’s attention?

“Hah.”, he mused to himself as he strode towards the location of the party instigated by Atalia. “Who would have thought that someone with the ability to freeze the local area has to gall to go to a beach party?”, he thought to himself as he came near Ascot and Jack. These two… how old were they again? 14? That is rather young for people to have such an intimate relationship. “And I can’t even get Allison to notice me, damn.”

“Hello, you two.”, he said to Ascot and Jack while actively raising the temperature around himself to better match the surroundings, though he would never get it above 20 degrees due to personal preferences for the cold. “Last time I was this early, the Hapsburgs were giving their 13 year old daughters to old men.”, he said to them with his signature toothy grin. He patted them both; he was, after all, three years their senior, and he felt the need to have the first years of their school feel welcome to their oh so glorious institution.

Stroking his rather grown beard, he then turned to Atalia. “Today is a warm day, is it not?”, he said, sitting on a large rock. It appeared to be a joke.

Allison Clark

To say Allison was excited about the party was an understatement. She was absolutely ecstatic about it. It was the last party of the summer and possibly the biggest one of them. Her highschool friend and fellow athlete, Atalia, was hosting the party down on the beach by her house. For Allison, it would be the first party she's been to since she won the junior state kickboxing tournament back in July. Her spare time since then was spent recouping, training, and dealing with certain newfound abilities. Regardless of all that, Allison was ready for the perfect end to summer.

On the day of the party, Allison stayed at home. With both her parents at the gym that they owned, she had the house to herself. Most of it was spent at her personal weight room they had built into the house. There, Allison was free to workout and test her new powers. For hours, she tested the boundaries of what her ability, trying to get a firm grasp of what she was capable. Through trial and error, she figured out what she could lift. Luckily for her, the bench was not free weight so she was able to free herself when she got caught under the bar.

Time flew by for Allison and it was time to get ready for the party. She quickly hopped in the shower, spending some time for the hot water to relax her muscles. Once done, she dried off and got dressed. Being a little chilly this time of year, Allison opted for something a little warmer. She wore her favorite hooded jacket with a thin flannel shirt underneath and some jeans. Allison then paired it with her purple skate shoes that were the most comfortable pair she owned. She put her hair up in a ponytail, letting some of her bangs hang in her face.

Allison had one last thing to tie the outfit together, her " bling. " This bling was in the shape of a 1st place medal, the same medal she won at the state tournament. She wanted to show it off a little to get friends at the party. Allison liked to brag and show off at time. She never means to show that she's better than everyone else, she just as pride in all her hard work. Once she was ready, Allison stepped out of the house.

Allison decided to walk to Atalia's house, being only a couple miles away. She had a vehicle that she could have driven, a brand new red Jeep Wrangler. Walking was good exercise and Allison loved the fresh air this of year. At a brisk pace, it did not take long for Allison to walk to Atalia's house, about 30 or so minutes. Once she got there, most of the eyes were on her. Several of the other people present, mostly the football players, congratulate her on the victory and proceeded to high five and fist bump her. Allison ate all of this up and returned the high fives and gave her thanks, telling them she'll get them to arm wrestle her later.

Allison didn't stay long with the football players, she wanted to see Atalia and tell her she was here. She made her way through the property until she found Atalia. She was standing next to two guys who were holding hands. Allison didn't know them by name, but she wasn't bothered by their hand holding. People can do what they want. Allison decided to get Atalia's attention.

" Hey, Atalia!" Allison called out and waved to her before walking over. " It's great to see you again. it's been a couple weeks. Awesome party by the way." Allison said, engaging in small talk.

Jack Brekker

Jack turned to the new guy, an older dude... Nikolai, an older kid. But, why did it feel cold all of a sudden?

"Yeah, I probably should've brought layers. Nikolai, isn't it? You know, you aren't really dressed for the beach," said Jack. No suspicion, just curiosity.

Marshall's eyes shot open, the vibration of his alarm going off next to his head alerting him it was time.
Slowly getting up from bed, fully clothed, he moved toward his window. His heart beating through his chest he slowly pushed the frame upwards and felt the cold night air push into his bedroom.
Putting one leg outside, Marshall began to leave, only to look back for a split second with a hint of reservation. It wasn't a serious thing, sneaking out, but it still felt wrong not to tell his dad. Yet his father might not let him go and as such it must remain a secret. Marshall wasn't exactly invited to this party as much as he had overheard talk about it, but nonetheless he was excited. He finally leapt from the window, emotions rising. As a tingle arose in the back of his head, Marshall quickly hit himself and snapped out of it,
"not tonight, any night except tonight Marshall"
the string section faded away as Marshall walked into the night

Marshall slipped through the dark streets...
Making his way towards the beach, Marshall could tell he was getting closer as the sounds of laughter and music crept upon him. He spotted the party from a distance and for a second, just watched. Maybe tonight he could actually do something with himself, make an impression. Not freak out or have any more....hallucinations. Marshall made his way over to the beach itself and worked his way into the party. His 'classmates' seemed anything but right about now, how mature they seemed, how old and adult it was, drinking and partying and arriving in cars and things. Marshall tried his best to keep it cool, but the sight of the kid with a beard didn't help
"why the fuck does he have a beard? Why can't I do anything except these chin pubes?"
"Oh shit, I should introduce myself, maybe I've been too quiet"
"Hello guys, how's it going?"
"nailed it"

Atalia Bayer

"Jack, looking good!" Atalia remarked as the couple approached her. She gave them an appraising look. She didn't know Ascot, he was a fair few years younger than her, though they looked happy, like the relationship had just started, "And who is this? I don't think we've ever been introduced. I'm Atalia, though my friends call me 'Tali." Why had she just said that? Nobody called her Tali... though it sounded right. She needed another drink.

Atalia poured herself enough whiskey to floor most 17 year old girls, then tossed the bottle towards Jack. If she was going to get drunk, then so was everyone else.

She beamed at Nikolai when she approached, holding her arms out in an invitation to a hug, though she didn't try to stand up, so that had the potential to be a bit awkward (for him), "Nikolai! How are you? I hope you've brought us some of your lovely vodka. If Jack and co don't drink the rest of the bottle, I am totally happy to trade for some of my 'classy' bourbon," she paused for a moment, then shook her head, still smiling, "I think we have different definitions of warm."

Before being able to give much attention to Nikolai, Allison appeared, "Hey! Still winning all the medals, I see."

There were enough people standing around that sitting on the beach was beginning to seem a bit awkward, so Atalia stood up, taking a moment to dust down her jeans, "I'm hoping it will turn into a party people will talk about years into the future... or at least until something more exciting happens!" there was a twinkle in her eyes that suggested she was planning mischief, though exactly what form that would take was anyone's guess.

Theocretes wrote:[color=blue]"Hello guys, how's it going?"

"Marshall!" having so many people about her had put Atalia right in her element. She barrelled into the newcomer, giving him a quick hug before turning to address the group as a whole, "I am so glad to see all of you here!"

"Hey, weird question, but you know how those soldier types come down to the town sometimes? Have any of you seen a woman, about my height, looks a bit like me I guess but older. Like early twenties or something? Kinda dark-brown hair with blonde highlights that she wears in a braid? Has a pink watch." It was beyond a long-shot, but she figured it was worth asking the question. If she could figure out who the person who kept interrupting her dreams was then maybe she could do something about it.

Malcom Jule

Today was the day Malcom was dreading... the party. He was never a big fan of parties. So loud, so chaotic. He never knew what to do at one until someone would take pity on him and initiate the conversation. One of the many perks of being an introvert in a circle of extroverts. Don't get him wrong, it's not that he didn't like hanging out with people or even parties. In fact, he really liked hanging out with friends and talking to people. However, too much was too much for him, causing a whole new degree of awkwardness. The only reason he decided to go to this one was to maintain his social presence and please some friends.

The party was just stressing him out all day, eating at him. Especially since he had other things to worry about - namely, his new ability. Not an ability, per say. An anomaly would be more accurate.

Recently, strange occurrences happened when he was around electronics. Lights would flicker more in his presence. He would feel a shock whenever he touched something electronic, such as his phone or TV, or even a simple light. That wasn't the whole of it, either. A few days ago, Malcom's phone glitched out when he picked it up. When he touched the home computer, it just crashed. Then, they would just boot back up after taking his hand off. The electron accelerator he built in his garage wouldn't power up when he turned it on. All of these incidents happened in Malcom's presence.

Malcom could only come to the logical conclusion that these electrical disruptions were caused by him. Anyone could've deduced that, but he's been thinking about this a lot. He was a man of science, and there had to be a logical scientific explanation for this. So, he decided to begin his test. In the garage, he turned around to go fetch the magnets. But over by the cup of interlocking magnets sat a picture of his dad. He was silent while looking at it. His father had been gone for six years. He didn't get to see Malcom get honor roll, or make his first robot, or make his first machine. He missed his dad. But, his dad was gone. He accepted that a long time ago. He grabbed the cup.

He went back to his work desk and poured the magnets on the table. If he was disrupting electronics, it must've had something to do with an electromagnetic field. He suspected his body had somehow generated an electromagnetic field that was extending into electronics as he touched them, thus disrupting them and causing the glitches. Now, there was really only one way to test his theory. If he had an electromagnetic field in his body and touched the magnets, then they would stick to him when he touched them. If not, then they would fall off like typical magnets. This was it. This would determine if he had something extranormal going on with him.

"Here we go," he said to himself. His hand descended into the pile of magnets as he played around with them a bit to really get in there. He hesitated for a second. But then, he just went for it. Closing his eyes, he pulled up his hand. When he opened them, he was amazed by the results.

His theory was correct! The magnets stuck to him, meaning these occurrences weren't just coincidences. His body had an electromagnetic field; imagine what he could do with it! This prospect excited him. And then, he saw the time. According to the wall clock, the party was starting in ten minutes. "Oh, I better be going." It was time for the party... yay?

Later, at the party...

Malcom sort of just stood by the beach, wondering how he would make his entrance. "'Hey losers'... No, that's not good... 'What's up, it's your boy'?... No, that's terrible, too..."

Then, he started seeing people really have fun. "Oh, screw it!" He walked over to the people on the beach. Over there, he saw Atalia. He'd seen her around before, he thought she was pretty okay. One of the populars, but not snobby popular. He went to say hello to the group. "Uh, hey everyone," he said awkwardly.

Atalia:
"Marshall!" having so many people about her had put Atalia right in her element. She barreled into the newcomer, giving him a quick hug before turning to address the group as a whole, "I am so glad to see all of you here!"

"OOF..."
The impact of the hug knocked Marshall back a touch, but he was quick to reciprocate
"Hi Atalia, or is it Tali now?"
Marshall was genuine in his question, but it came off almost like a joke and he rolled with it, punctuating it with a slight giggle, before responding to her question
"I have seen women, many of them in fact! Maybe I have seen her even! Just couldn't tell you when or where! Is that helpful?"
Marshall eyed uncomfortably the many people beginning to partake in...alcohol *shudders*
Malcom
"Uh, hey everyone," he said awkwardly.

Marshall quickly glanced over with a "Hi"
Waving his hand just a bit to seem more genuine

Ascot Rider

Ascot smiled at Nikolai’s joke, and said, “Hello! Glad to see you and Atalia - And hello, Marshall!”

Yes, he knew most people’s names here. At Atalia’s question, he turned to her and said, “Oh, this is Jack Brekker - My new boyfriend. We got together just a week ago - He’s been very good to me.” He smiled widely at that and continued, “Hello, Allison and Malcolm! Glad to see the both of you! If you don’t actually know me, my name is Ascot Rider and this is my boyfriend, Jack Brekker! Glad you can all come to the party!”

Then to ‘Tali’s’ question, Ascot says, “Why do you ask? I don’t know anyone of that description, but I can keep my eyes out. That said, meddling in military affairs is usually a bad idea, especially if it’s kids doing it.” A glance at her already drinking alcohol, “Also, you do realize I am 14, right? And even if I wasn’t, I prefer sweet stuff like coffee and milk tea, no offense meant - Just different preferences.”

Then back to Nikolai as Ascot continued, “Is it just me, or is this place colder than usual?” He had glimpsed Nikolai’s frosty breath when they had met up, before continuing, “I hope we’re not expected to swim - I didn’t bring my swim trunks.”

Jack Brekker

Jack passed the bottle on to Allison briskly. He may have had a reputation as a "cool" guy, but he liked to stay sharp.

"No thanks. I don't drink unless someone's dead," he said with just enough of a smile to show it was a joke. "As for your soldier lady, never seen her. Not that I pay too much attention," he said. As he did, he felt a familiar sensation. One that he'd grown to dread in moments like these. He felt his watch slide off his wrist as his arm wavered in and out of existence. Panicking ever so slightly, he focused and stabilized the rogue limb. Confident he'd done so, he bent down to pick the watch up, hoping no one had noticed.

Ascot Rider

Ascot saw Jack’s wrist turning intangible and his watch drop, but decided to wait to see if anyone had noticed. Then he facepalmed at Marshall’s pulling down his pants and said, “Not now, not now! Don’t you realize that no one wants to see your ‘private parts’ or their outlines, especially people who already have someone in their lives?!” He then turned to Jack once more, in order to reassure him of his continued fidelity, and said, “And again, it seems I’ll have to ask for a spare. Do you and ‘Tali’ have a spare?”

At least this would be a suitable distraction from Jack losing control of his powers, although ‘Tali’ might not be actually distracted or diverted - There was something off about her...

Jack gave an exasperated sigh at Marshall's words, and an irritated one at his laugh. "Should be one in my car, if you're willing to wear a size too big," he said to Ascot as he turned to Marshall.

"As for you. I don't appreciate a couple of the things you said, not the least of which you disrespecting this fine gentleman. Now, I'm gonna ask you to apologize, or I'm gonna cold-cock you in the nose, capiche?," said Jack. The easy going grin never left his face, not for a second, but now there was something under it. Something promising danger.

Henry Caldwell
Henry was quite nervous as he approached the beach where the party was being held. It was the first time in a while he was going to attend a social function where he might actually make some long lasting friends. His past parents work migrations had left him with little time or motivation to make friends, but with the promised permanence of their new home, Henry felt it was safe to put some effort into his social life. So far he really hadn't made any human friends here, but that would change tonight ,or so he hoped. On his shoulder rested his corvid companion and planned icebreaker, Crownathan Wingsly. Through the use of his newfound powers, Henry had managed to tame the bird so he could give it simple commands even when he wasn't directly controlling Crownathan. With the uniqueness of his feathered companion, he would definitely be able to start some conversations and gain some new connections.

As Henry entered the beach, something caught Crownathan's sharp eyes. A shiny golden medal, dangling from a well muscled girl's neck, had drawn in the crow's attention and soon Crownathan started bugging Henry to get closer. Henry finally surrendered to Crownathan's barrage of ear tugs, loud caws, and mental prodding and headed over to where the shiny medal was, and also the party's host. As he approached, Henry noticed a possible conflict growing between the male members of the group, and he decided to give them a wide berth and introduce himself to the host and the girl with the eye catching medal.

"Hello there party people. The name's Henry and this feathered fellow here is Crownathan Wingsly." Henry turned to Allison, "I hope I am not being too forward, but could you let my bird buddy here see your medal? He just loves shiny things and he won't quit bugging me until he sees it."

Marshall smiled back
"Really? "Capiche?" Marshall made an Italian hand gesture for emphasis "Again, not the signs of a thriving companionship, but I digress. Punch me if you will my guy but i'm not the bad guy here. I know you think you're playing the cool guy here with the sick ass "twisted" smile and the cool guy talk, but the voice of a 15 year old isn't exactly inspiring fear here."
Marshall crossed his arms
"Besides, i'd rather resolve this peacefully, why don't we sit and relax, cool our nerves a bit?"
Marshall had been angling his legs for a kick during the whole conversation, slowly so as not to be noticed. One aimed at the nuts.
Music began to lightly rise in the back of his skull as adrenaline came up from within

Jack Brekker

Jack was, to say the least, frustrated. In general, he probably would've kept this fight going, but now was different. Now, he was at a party. No need to kill the mood, not when this was a fight he could win later.

"Alright. Let's cool it then," said Jack. Same smile, with the edge of anger taken out. "But I still think you're an ass," he said genially.

"As for swimming? I'm good. Too cold for me," he said to no one in particular.

Mukami Jemiriyah was a quiet, unassuming 17 year old girl whose favorite thing to do was play baseball and read Captain America comic books. By many factors, she was a bit of a tomboy, and her short hair and interests in the typical things boys like. It didn't really bother her, she was happy. But what didn't make her happy was an invite she received to go to a beach party. Mukami, although being introverted, also had anxiety. She didn't enjoy being around people too often, as things tend to...happen. She ran many scenarios through her head of events that can occur, despite many being outlandish, but others being sort of realistic. The latter being the anxiety talking again, at least she hoped.

She walked for half an hour to Atalia's chosen location. Mukami was well known throughout the school due to her prominence as the school's best pitcher, and they had just recently won the championship for the second time in three years. This school year, they were looking into doing it again.

Mukami took a deep breath as her hands instinctively caressed the earring on her left ear. Ironically, Mukami's appearance could be described as eccentric: One long silver earring, short black hair with the tips dyed red, and an outfit that seemed akin to pajamas. They were red and black, matching her hair. The overall aesthetic with the outfit reminded Mukami of home, which is where she felt the safest. Her teammates on the baseball team convinced her to attend the party, and Mukami was now regretting that decision. When she entered the houses, she kept looking around to see if there was anyone she knew. Cecil, maybe? While everyone began talking, Mukami decided to stand out towards the edge, where she could easily leave if necessary.

Ascot Rider

“Thanks!” Ascot said to Jack as he went to the car, even though inwardly, he was dreading what might happen between his boyfriend and Marshall all because of him. Running to the car, he went to get Jack’s spare swim trunks, before deciding to throw caution to the wind and change to said swim trunks right then and there. Of course, he’d keep his jacket and shirt (the latter which obscured the top half of his trunks) because it was unusually cold around Nikolai, but aside from that, he’d be in trunks, socks, and shoes. He’d then walk back to where the others were and hope nothing unpleasant had happened in the meantime.

And it seemed nothing bad was happening and things were de-escalating - He was lucky.

Earlier that morning
Kristen Lane

Trying to sleep in never felt so wrong. Sure, she was tired. Stay up late binge-watching 24 on Hulu, and you'd be tired too. Not to mention doing that, after a day of heavy running and cross-country training. But what felt wrong had nothing to do with how weary the girl was, or the exercising she had done the day before.

What felt wrong had everything to do with her right leg, to be precise. Kristen Lane had been lying on her side, and inevitably had tossed and turned around throughout the night as she always did. The covers were in a heap. The sheet was tangled. But her right leg. Something wasn't right there. It was as if something dull and painful was digging into the front of her leg. As she came to a groggy consciousness after feeling like it was way too early, Kristen rolled over and moved her leg. And that's when it really hurt, because her left leg moved from in front of her right leg. She moaned in annoyance, as the skin pulled, as if her left leg had been digging something into her right leg. She pulled her hurting leg up to her chest and tried to massage it. And she felt... rings. Rings that had been dug into her skin, the kind you get when something has been pressing against your skin for some time. And they hurt awful.

That wasn't all of it. Kristen's stomach didn't feel great, either. It was unsettled. Normally, she just felt hungry and wanted to shovel something down before starting her day. But that wasn't what her stomach was like today. Today? It was as if her stomach itself was stretching and reshaping itself. Doing flips, perhaps. It was the weirdest feeling and one she wouldn't have chosen.

Standing up and grabbing a towel, Kristen staggered into the bathroom. After going to the bathroom, she prepared to take a shower. And that's when she saw her legs in the mirror, and screamed.

Later, at the party

Normally, she would have enjoyed getting together. There was usually someone she wouldn't mind talking to. And since school was going to be starting soon enough, she normally would have wanted one last time before having to sludge through physics assignments.

But the whole day, she had been freaked out. When she had looked in the mirror that morning, that was a sight she had never expected to see coming out of her. Honestly, it was a sight she had never wanted to see, either. She was with her dad this week, as part of the stupid custody arrangement. When he knocked on the door wanting to know what was wrong, she didn't want to just up and tell him that she had somehow turned into a half-cyborg or something. She'd had to think of something on the spot - not usually her strong suit - and made up a story about a snake that had gotten in. And then, had miraculously gotten out. He'd searched the bathroom thoroughly after she was done. Kristen didn't think her dad believed her. It was a pretty lame attempt. But it's not like she could tell him what she had really seen.

Jutting out of the backs of each calf muscle, were six exhaust type pipes, arranged in a three sets of two.

Kristen had no idea what the hell it meant. Only that this was a very freaky day. And she wondered what anyone of her friends would think when they saw her next.

Fortunately, throughout the day, Kristen learned that these exhaust pipes on the backs of each calf weren't a permanent feature. She could retract them at will. Also, she could bring them back out at will. It didn't hurt the skin when that happened, somehow. As if the ducts in the skin expanded and the exhaust pipes protruded through the holes they made. So whatever was happening to her, it wouldn't necessarily get her laughed at as the newest freak in the school.

Her stomach hadn't really settled down, either. It was still just as unsettled as before. Eating and drinking, movement and rest, nothing changed it. She hoped s he wasn't coming down with something.

With that in mind, going to a party wasn't the greatest idea possible. But, Kristen thought she might find one of her friends there she could trust, and ask her... discreetly... what one might do in the weirdest of hypothetical situations. Without giving too much away.

Some of the football players were hanging out in the back of one of the guys' trucks, parked by a few trees. A few were throwing a frisbee to a few more yards away. Others were playing hackeysack.

Kristen saw one of the girls who had been in some of the sports she had been in, Atalia, with a larger group ahead. "Ah, that explains it," thought Kristen to herself. That group was an odd mixture, but when it came to drinking, alcohol could bring together the weirdest of companions. Kristen looked at the others. One guy in a speedo. She recognized him, even without most of his clothes on. Marshall. Still, she blushed. Two guys, who had been holding hands. Jack and a younger guy. Whatever. That's just gross. A guy with a bird she didn't know well but who introduced himself as Henry and another - wasn't he a foreign exchange student? Wait a minute. Was that a medal? Did Allison actually wear a medal to the party? What a show-off!

Kristen began to wonder if coming here was a mistake. She shivered, hating how cold it had gotten, and edged closer to the bonfire on the other side where a few other people were chilling out and talking. "Hey, guys. Wow, the summer went by really fast."

Bridget Reeves

Suppose when Atalia mentioned that everyone was invited to this thing, she really did mean everyone.

Parked not too far from the bonfire was a quite pathetic excuse of a car. A girl sat atop the trunk of said car, idly tapping away at her phone. Her long black hair was tied up in a single ponytail, the bangs held parted to one side with a hairclip. Her skin was fair, with not a single blemish visible on her face. She was dressed somewhat sharply for such a carefree occasion - almost like a waitress.

In fact, that's exactly what Bridget was. She had rushed here just as her shift was over, having time only to change from a skirt and tights to jeans and tennis shoes. She wore a white button-down shirt, the sleeves rolled up and collar unbuttoned. Over it was a black sleeveless vest, though Bridget opted to leave it unbuttoned because, unsurprisingly, she liked being able to breathe.

She was only familiar with a handful of people here - primarily that Ascot kid, whose parents owned the restaurant she worked in. In fact, this was probably the first social event she bothered to attend since moving here. She wasn't worried about first impressions though, because she was one of the few to bring exactly what people would come asking for: alcohol.
I'm just a guy that likes playing video games, drawing, acting/musical theatre, piano, rp, and impersonating people with a spunky disposition.

Cecil Leopold Nevverling-Wijgaants
Party Time!

Larger parties weren’t usually my cup of tea. Indeed, I find myself most comfortable in a small gathering, such as coffee hour after church, club fair meetings, and so on. But I was more excited for this one than I usually was. I think it had something to do with the circumstances. My chest was light in both a figurative and literal sense. No more need for binders! My hair seemed to be flourishing, although I had used my best shampoo last night to ensure it was on point. It was silky and, though it had been years since it was long enough for me to smell, I was fairly sure it smelled of strawberries. That’s what the shampoo bottle had assured me, at least.

With everything going my way, as I was getting ready for the party, I decided I’d do something that I hadn’t done in what felt like ages. Although it still gave me a few twinges of dysphoria here and there, makeup still held this charm to me that I felt obliged to indulge once in a while. I’d spent so much time practicing an art, and it always felt like such a waste to have that lovely collection waste away simply because passing demanded it. I often lent it out and shared in the GSA, but rarely used it myself. One day, perhaps I would. But it felt like that theoretically future day was coming unexpectedly early. And why could it not be today?

Hell with it. I put on Dig a Little Deeper, and hummed along to the song as I prepared a nice little summer look. I opted for an intense vermillion eyeshadow from my pride pallet, and then sharp butterscotch-yellow eyeliner from a spring collection I’d bought in bulk at a discount. I restrained myself from going overboard with dramatic mascara, but it was still an intense look. I did a tiny bit of blush, and a splash of red glitter. I could do lipstick, but that would be too much for a casual party. No, this was enough. It was fun. I was tempted to bring it with me, but then I decided to leave the pallet and everything else. Too much trouble.

I was dressed a bit dapper for a casual party, but I enjoyed the style too much. It was an eccentric day for me! I had on a pair of corduroy shorts that just barely covered the short pink swim trunks I had on under it. The shorts closely matched my waiden tweed vest, which was over a short sleeve oxford shirt. I had a seafoam and blue plaid bowtie to go along with it. Although it was undoubtedly an eccentric look, I thought it had a nice nerdy charm to it.

As I went through the kitchen assembling snacks into a tote bag, I backtracked on my decision to leave the makeup. It fit fine. I had a bag of lay’s salt and vinegar chips, a 2 litre bottle of root beer with a stack of extra red cups, a roll of paper towels, and then a box of 32 almond petit fours that my stepmother and I had baked a few days prior. It’d been a nice little excursion, even though we rarely had time to bake. And then there was the makeup, gently nestled alongside the bottle on the bottom of the bag. I slipped on and velcroed my brown leather sandals, and then headed out the door once I’d set the alarm and lock up behind myself.

I hopped into the 2013 Beetle Turbo Convertible that my father and stepmother had surprised me with last Christmas. Over the summer, I’d paid to get it painted a lovely coral peach. It had been between that and a teal emerald, but the lighter colour ultimately won me over. As I placed the bag in the passenger seat, I felt a sneeze coming on. I inhaled and stayed still for a second, and then sneezed, and nearly gave myself a heart attack as I glitched. I ended up in the same position, but accidentally nudged the gas and had jerked myself forward. I took a moment, murmured to myself “Christssake,” exhaled, and then cracked my knuckles and neck.

The drive up itself was perfectly fine, and so I soon calmed as I played songs from one of my happy playlists into my right ear with an off-brand airpod. I found myself nodding gently as Tout Oublier by Angele played as I drove through the forest. It was relaxing, and I soon found myself with a gentle smile. I pulled into the area for parking, and turned the key. I grabbed my bag, and hopped out the car.

I greeted a few folks with a nod as I strolled over to the table with the fixings set out, and added my little gifts to the mix, and, once everything was gently arranged, I poured about two thirds of a cup of root beer, and topped it off with a little splash of vodka. Best to cover up the scent if I could. And besides, a slow drip was better than going nuts from the start. Just because we have livers doesn’t mean we need to burn them out in half a lifetime.

I idly looked around the place, and spotted Mukami idling on the outskirts. I grabbed two paper towels and put one petit four on each, and stacked them gently so I still had my left hand free for my cup. I trotted over to her, and with a smile pointed at her with my cup hand, and cheerily said, “Look at my African-American over here!” It was our little inside joke.

“Danny Phantom, eh? I like it. Sounds cooler than Jack, for sure. Now, how about we introduce ourselves to hostess?” said Jack as he approached Atalia, a friendly smile on his face and leading Ascot by the hand.

" Hey, Atalia!" Allison called out and waved to her before walking over. " It's great to see you again. it's been a couple weeks. Awesome party by the way." Allison said, engaging in small talk.

Nikolai Sapohznik

Atalia was friendly at first contact, and already stretched out her arms towards Nikolai when he came in. “Yay, hugs.”, was all he said as he did reciprocate at her invitation, even if her sitting position made it a little difficult to accomplish a good one. As they were done, Atalia asked if he had brought vodka, to which he merely shrugged. “Da, Atalia. I don’t usually drink, I’m not yet twenty-one years old.”

Shifting his position on the rock that he sat on, he continued. “I have no idea why the sterotype that we people of Russian descent are vodka addicts still persist in the land of the free and brave, though if you really want something alcoholic from me, I have these.” Nikolai pulled out a bottle of red wine that read “Cellardoor Winery” and placed it on Atalia’s table. “Left over from my cousin’s bar mitzvah, which is the third in a row this month. I also have two glasses just for this piece of art.”

Without further ado, he also took out two cardboard cases and placed them beside the bottle before opening them. “Lomonosov Wine Glasses, sent straight from Russia by our relatives when they heard that we didn’t have enough wine glasses for all the adults. Now, to pour...”

“Exactly.”, Nikolai replied in turn to Jack. “I’m just here to watch the glorious waves pound the shore, to watch the setting sun as it rises in turn in the east... you know the drill, friend. It’s just me.

Oppermenia wrote:Malcom Jule

“Moi droog.”, Sapohznik reached out towards Malcom with both arms and gently grabbed his shoulders. “How’s my fellow introvert yeh?”, he said to Malcom with his rather infamous grin. Even then, he consciously raised the temperature around himself a bit, just because. Nikolai then hugged Malcom then and there. He was like this to his fellow introverts. Warm and cozy.

However, as this went on, the one boy named... Marshall put down his pants. “Ah. My virgin eyes.”, Nikolai quipped as he turned away from the sight of the outline of... the thing. Before Nikolai could say one more thing though, the younger Ascot raised a complaint. Nikolai frowned at this almost immediately, and before the conversation heightened to a small tense argument, Nikolai slipped away towards where Henry and Allison were talking.

“Heeeeenry! Hi.”, he said to the newcomer with a pleased expression, as he knew Henry had trouble communicating with others as he had been in the same high school for the last four years. “What’s with the bird? Does it speak when spoken to?”

While talking to Henry, one of his eyes was still on Allison. “Notice me senpai.”, he thought to himself hopelessly.

Allison laughed at Atalia's comment and mischievous demeanor. " Well as long as it's not like last year, I think we'll be fine." She said just before Atalia walked off to mingle with her other guests.

In a manner of minutes, the party had really kicked off. More people had showed up and now the beach was littered with Teens and noise. Everyone seemed to be having a good time. Allison, herself, was having a blast. She was hanging around the other jocks, mostly football players. She was telling them of how she beat the guy from Augusta to win the state tournament. Allison also took the time to compare muscles with them, briefly taking off her jacket to do so. She could put most of them to shame, especially the thinner guys.

" Nice try, dude. One day, you'll get to my level. I'm joking, you did good." Allison said, teasing one of them as the put her jacket back on.

That's when she spotted Henry walking towards her. She didn't know him that well, never really talked to him before. She has seen him around school, but Henry seemed to keep to himself. He was rather thin with bangs hanging in his face. He was tall, however, standing a couple inches higher than Allison. All in all, Henry wasn't a rather remarkable guy.

What was remarkable about Henry and what immediately caught her eye, was the animal sitting on his shoulder. A solid black crow was perched on his shoulder like it didn't have a care in the world. The crow was either Henry's pet or the thing was just really comfortable around people. Allison was transfixed of the bird as Henry introduced them both and asked about the medal.

" That is an awesome name!" Allison said as she laughed. She lives the crow now. " Mr. Wingsley can see the medal as long as he promises not to fly off with it." Allison said playfully as she removed the medal from her neck. " It's my most prized possession." Allison then presented the medal to the crow.

That was when Nikolai showed up to talk to the three of them. The sudden and mysterious chill in the air caused her to shiver a bit. He was another boy that Allison didn't know too well aside from a few classes together. She thinks he's not originally from Prefeton, but wasn't entirely sure. When the boy called out to Henry and asked about the bird, Allison chimed in.

" His name is Mr. Wingsley and he is so badass. Don't you agree?" Allison said as she nudged Nikolai's arm. She then turned her attention back to Henry.

" So is Mr. Wingsley like you pet or something? How did you get him to stay on your shoulder." Allison asked, watching as the bird played with her medal.
