IC THREAD

The KL-22 Directorate has sent out a message to the stars, and it has been picked up by a great number of interstellar states.

Lutvikkia were the first. They responded eagerly, before sending a single diplomatic vessel.

Next were the Senatus Populusque Martius, who detected the signal but are up to this point unable to decipher it.

Beyond that was Mercatus, who immediately sent a large ship into the atmosphere of the KL-22 capital planet.

Yet another interstellar state, the Confederacy, sent forces into the system, bringing a message to distrust Mercatus.

The KL-22 have increased their readiness level to 'high' three times so far to avert possible conflict between all involved powers currently in the CX system. What was once a simple diplomatic engagement and a first contact for the KL-22 state is now escalating into a possible all-out war within their system, and even should outright battle be averted, the difficulty of engagements both diplomatic and military in future is all too apparent.

The KL-22 have reached out, and in response, war has been brought to their space. From now on, anything could happen.

Oh, BTW, for anyone who hasn't guessed, the original signal is basically the Arecibo transmission, but modified for accuracy with the KL-22 rather than humans. If you put the message into rows of 24, then change the characters for 1 and 0 so that they are something that can be distinguished from a distance, it'll resemble an image, and that's what was sent. I'll attach the message at some point so that concept can be demonstrated, but yeah, it's actually a really basic signal that, as long as you could detect and register the particles themselves and the resulting Cherenkov radiation, should be fairly easy to translate.

Quick question I haven't actually gotten around to asking. Anyone here in the RP so far a nation that's "Earth based" (e.g. Earth-In-Space)? If so, if we're the same technological level we can do this RP cooperatively (story wise, IC Mars hates Earth's guts). I've left the situation on "Terra" vague enough if anyone wants to step in.

Yeah, sure. So, my nation sent out a faster than light transmission to nearby star systems that seemed like they might harbour life. The transmission contained some basic information in the style of the Arecibo message - position within our stellar system, numbers, the simplified process of making steel etc. The nations which have responded to the IC have detected the message in some form, and either have responded, have sent a ship to our system, or are still deciphering the message. Does that help in explaining it?

I mean, yeah, if you want to just do that. Of course, now we are in contact with a number of interstellar states, so if you do not have any interstellar contacts, that's now going to open you up to a fair few more relations than just with us.

I mean, yeah, if you want to just do that. Of course, now we are in contact with a number of interstellar states, so if you do not have any interstellar contacts, that's now going to open you up to a fair few more relations than just with us.

Amenria does know a few alien civs or so. You won't be the first xenos we contact.

I can step in as Earth.

It's all yours, although (I'm not gonna put too many restrictions on it, that's no fun) I must say three things about Terra/Solar System (Invictus to Mars). 1) It's a more egalitarian civilization than Mars. 2) It's been in a perpetual cold war with the world for the past centuries or so. Direct attacks between the two worlds are not gonna happen. 3) Civilization is at The Expanse/Kim Stanley Robinson levels of tech. The Outer Worlds are really a foreign frontier only populated by military bases, black sites, and pirates. Solar Populations are heavily based in the inner worlds and the asteroid belt/moons of Jupiter.

I have a factbook about our general history to fill you in on the divide between Mars and Earth.

I'll need to review the IC to work out exactly what's currently happening, but typically in this scenario the empire would send out an ambassador. The Otrenians are a very peaceful and maternal people, and diplomatic relationships are important to them.
