A Cold New World, An Alternative Cold War Roleplay Region
The Year is 2001, the cold war is still continuing albeit at a much calmer level than it was at previously 20 years ago. The Soviet Union has managed to hold itself and the Warsaw Pact together through thick and thin. Despite the expectations of the West, the USSR has become a resurgent but more pacified force in the world offering counterbalance to the West's growing power.
Further East the People's Republic of China is establishing itself as a global economic powerhouse, possibly the third superpower in this almost century long game of tug of war. With its economy booming from western reliance, and a newly invigorated and reformed economic structure spearheading a major push as one of the top three largest economies in the world. This new rising star of a power threatens to tip the scale (or possibly outright destroy the scale)
The West on the other hand has managed to become complacent throughout the 90's. An economic boom and the cold war dying down created a much expected bright decade for the US and NATO. Allowing unprecedented economic and military domination in areas that were once caught in a never-ending tug of war. However not all is good for the west. As the botched handling of German Reunification from the 80's onward has kept Germany split even longer despite all of the pushes for the two Germanies to become one. Along with the failure to appeal to even a more liberalized USSR causing even old rivalries to still exist.
The world stands on the brink of a renewal to a period of tension that once threatened to destroy everything. Now it is up to the generations of the future to decide to let old fires rage once more, or to snuff the embers.

Welcome to A Cold New World. Here we strive to deliver a new, alternate history cold war experience. Where new historical paths and technological progressions can take place. Along with allowing cold war style political play meeting the modern world. We aim to create a realistic and serious experience where members can carve news paths for the world that could ultimately led to a better tomorrow or a nuclear ash choked end for the human race.
Started by myself and a friend as an idea before we ultimately decided to bring it onto NS to bring others in. So we're looking for people absolutely willing to take part in national roleplay on a serious level, and willing to explore this interesting althist alongside us.
RULES:
1. All members are expected to behave in a polite manner with one another. Banter is okay on discord and OOC pms, but outright toxicity isn't. You can and will be kicked if you're deemed too toxic or malicious around others.
2. The Regional Message Board is for RP and occasional out of character. (Out of character must be marked as OOC in some manner.) Do not overdo out of character chatter.
3. Word of the regional owner/admins is final, and new rules CAN be added by the owner. Don't try to argue, even if the decision seems unfair.
4. Roleplay is to be taken seriously, so this means: No one liners, Godmodding, Metagaming, Outlandish actions for nations, or unrealistic events.
5. Superpower players are Required to be active. No this doesn't mean be on 24/7, but it does mean you can't go weeks without posting or interacting. You WILL be kicked if deemed inactive.
6. NPC nations are NOT reserved. You can apply to be them. However you're expected to fill the role they're currently in upon starting as them.
7. Members are not roleplaying as their nationstates nation. They are roleplaying as the actual IRL they have chose. So address other nations as their IC claims.
8. Lastly, rules on the discord are different from rules on site. Please follow them as well as these.ETIQUETTE:
1. The feedback of ALL members is treasured. Don't be afraid to chat with the owner or admins
2. This is a cold war based region, so it means alternate techs and histories can be used to some degree. Don't be afraid to talk with regional admins about it! We're more than happy to work in more althist to make our setting much more enriched.
3. Despite Roleplay being done on RMB, we will have forum threads for special events or for specific roleplays. Unless specified otherwise, all forum and RMB roleplays between members will be considered canon.
4. Feel free to recommend others to the region! More than happy to recruit more people.
5. To elaborate on althist: althist is very appreciated as long as it feels fitting for the setting. Don't be afraid to mess around with some plausible alternate history paths for the nation you're playing. Even if the alternate history is outlandish (An example being the US reorganizing itself like in fallout) we can work with it as long as we can believe it in universe.
6. Scheming with other players isn't just allowed... We love and encourage it. This is a cold war region, don't be afraid to do some espionage. As long as it's done in an ICly manner that doesn't encourage metagaming.
7. Upon joining, don't be afraid to go out on a limb with a random news post detailing miscellaneous happenings or sending a message to a nation you wish to start relations with! Interaction between each others is something we absolutely desire here.
