GIZA: LOS KYEVOS

A fantasy RP set during "Age of Pretenders" on the continent of Giza.

"A NEW AGE HAS EMERGED. THE GUARDIAS REAL CANNOT PROTECT YOU ANYMORE."

Gone are the wonders of the Age of Prosper. The Empire of Laivast, once a shining beacon on the continent of Giza, is now a fading memory for even the most ancient books. War has now consumed Giza, a war that the once proud Order of Guardias Real cannot stop. Still reeling from its disastrous defeat at the hands of giant Mahalk the Magnificent at the Battle of Twenty Thousand, the onslaught of chaotic and dark forces have corrupted seemingly everything it is able to touch. From the Bloody Fields to the tips of Kynaziir, servants of the chaotic gods are everywhere now.

The squabbling kings and petty princes of Giza pay no attention to this. To them, the myths of trolls, daemons, and men of chaos mean nothing. Instead, they focus on themselves and their own struggles against their local foes.

To the North-West, the Jaukknayr Tribes grow ever-the-more bold in their raids on the Princedom of Elsjard and the Kingdom of Hauntopfis. A young, but martial and well-respected warchief by the name of Kiersyyad, has reportedly begun an attempt to unite the various warring tribes of the Jaukknayr in hopes of a full-scale invasion of Hauntopfis, the Northern Princes, and more. The various Northern independent princes and King Carlshalm "the Iron" IX of Hauntopfis have begun banding together in hopes of repelling the ever-growing number of Jaukknayr raiders. Hope appears to be fading by the day however, as the Jaukknayr grow in number. Soon, the hooves of the tribes will be at the doorsteps of Jollistov if the Northerners are unable to stop them.

To the North-East, blood-thirsty trolls, daemons, and chaotic men from beyond the Rot have begun their subsequent destruction of the Old Wardens of the Borderlands; the Border Princes and the Kingdom of Alloskindr. Plagued by incompetence, the Border Princes have provided little to no resistance to the armies of darkness, allowing the historic city of North-Sairs to be sacked and subsequently razed to the ground. As the Kingdom of Alloskindr attempts to combat these endless waves of dark foes, it is forced to defend itself by the ever-so-ambitious Kingdom of Sallowstein from the west. Their war will not matter in the end if the forces of darkness and chaos are able to enter Giza.

To the South, the Kingdom of Old Laivast and the Jarldom of Tahmyrd are locked in a stalemate in the region of the Interlands. Meant to be a buffer between the two hostile peoples of the Wildlanders and the Marshers, the Interlands have instead become a boiling pot of ethnic tension between the two groups of peoples. As a result, various claimants to the Interlands' assorted thrones have emerged, each being backed by one of the neighbouring kingdoms. With the proxy war consuming and tearing the Interlands apart, it is only time before Old Laivast and Tahmyrd formally become involved, sending their sons and daughters to die in a pointless war.

Unknown to all of these squabbling humans however, a sinister and evil force lurks beyond the Rot in the Lands of Fire. Known to the Guardias Real as Los Kyevos, it is a renegade company made up of warriors of chaos, troll-men, and corrupted ones, headed by a few renegade/former Guardians. Their leader is the former captain of the Ninth Company: Marcos Sylakios. While Los Kyevos has not invaded Giza yet, it is the fear of the Order that if the company were to, it would spell the doom of humans in Giza.

Humans have grown incompetent, oblivious to the fact that their apocalypse is seemingly only days away. As the Guardians attempt to rally those willing to help defend Giza from the chaotic gods and forces of darkness, the hopes of humanity rest on you.

Premise
War and Dysfunction. This is Giza.

Made up of various warring kingdoms and princedoms, the once united continent has now fallen apart. Despite the efforts of the continent's peacekeepers, the Order of Guardias Real (the Guardians/the Order), the rulers of each faction has continued their individual and greedy pursuits of wealth and glory. However, unlike in Ages past, Giza is existentially threatened from beyond the evil mountain ranges known as the Rot, by a supernatural and dark company known only as Los Kyeovs, who seek to subjugate or destroy everything in their path in order to serve the needs of their dark and chaotic gods. The infighting amongst the kingdoms of Giza needs to cease, or temporarily halted, and they need to unify as the very existence of Giza is threatened.

You are an inhabitant of Giza. Regardless of background, profession, or birth, you will be inadvertently pushed into this conflict of not greed, not expansion, but survival. The question is, what is your role in this conflict? Are you a worshipper of Chaos, and this is the apocalypse you have waited your entire life for? Are you a knight in the service of one of the kingdoms, and this conflict has seemingly given you new life in a miserable existence of constantly fighting others? Are you a lowborn, and perhaps you have been chosen by the Gods to help lead the forces of Giza against the forces of darkness and chaos?

The choice, is yours.

Welcome to Giza.
Rules & Guidelines
Please take the time to read the following bullet points. If you have any questions, please ask below!

    • Applications are judged and reviewed based on previous RP experience that are submitted alongside of the application. This includes the agreement that all applicants and participants understand formatting and ordering their posts so that it is legible to someone other than the writer. Additionally, if your application is criticized, please take it constructively and not as an insult. At the end of the day, we're all here to create and have fun.

    • Activity is expected by all participants, unless if valid reasons are given. This means that if your character(s) remains inactive for too long, that they will fall underneath the control of the OP/Co-ops for the plot arc that they are involved in. If an inactive player character's owner were to return to the RP, their character's control will be immediately handed back to them.

    • Mature themes are allowed, however please remember that we do not need too much detail on the gore or insights of various horrendous actions that may take place IC-wise. OOC-wise, please keep it to an absolute minimum in respect to fellow participants and/or casual readers. This includes any potential site rule violations, as any infractions that require moderators/administrators will be handled seriously.

    • Keep the OOC chatter to the OOC thread, except for minor corrections (in which case, they must be included in a spoiler post with your IC post). You are permitted to discuss anything/everything Giza-related within the OOC. Aggressive OOC behaviour will not be tolerated, and both OP and the Co-OPs reserve the right to terminate any accepted applications as a disciplinary measure.

    • Godmodding is strictly prohibited, plain and simple. As it ruins other participants' experiences in the RP, it is an anything that would give an unfair advantage to a player-controlled character, such as immunity to damage, knowing secretive moves without having an IC reason why, etc. There will be winners and losers in this RP, and it is expected that participants will come to compromises and make realistic decisions to reflect this. All participants are expected to positively contribute to the RP in some shape or form, and godmodding takes that away.

    • Quality is expected from all participants. While ten-page long essays and immense blocks of text are not required, an understanding of basic English grammar and spelling is required, as well as somewhat detailed posts.

    • While Giza does have an established lore structure in place, players are encouraged to help contribute to the lore of the land, and help to correct or add any existing or new lore. Fresh ideas and concepts are always welcome!

    • Magic is a very difficult subject in Giza. Despite carrying the same name, it is not as what it would appear in other fantasy RPs. Magic is typically seen as the work of daemons and/or god-like forces. The use of magic is not simply grasped within a month or two, but requires extensive training from specialized and educated individuals. Core magic concepts can be found under lore, particularly the most common concepts.

    • Humans are the only race present in Giza. While there are supernatural beings that are present in Giza, they are typically from the Lands of Fire, and are considered to be "mythical". Please keep that in mind when posting.

    • Technology is the "High" Medieval Period, and society follows that of a feudal society unless specified otherwise. No gunpowder exists in Giza. This RP borrows elements from both Warhammer and Bleach.

Rules are subject to change.

The fiercely independent Southerner jarls have traditionally been a thorn in the side of the central powers of both the Laivasti Empire and now, the Kingdom of Old Laivast. The Jarldom of Tahmyrd is no different, as it is a collection of Jarls who swear fealty to a Vilskangr, or "Jarl of God". Dominated by the Southerner & Marsher culture, Tahmyrd has maintained hostile relations with their western neighbours, as they both vy for control over the Interlands. As of 920 AF, the Tahmyrd have championed themselves as the protectors of Marshers and Southerners everywhere, regardless of kingdom or political affiliation, and have been known to defend their own with extreme prejudice.

Formed after the collapse of the Laivasti Empire, the Jarldom of Tahmyrd were the second succeeding faction, and fought a bloody and lengthy war of independence against the legions of the Laivasti Empire. Thanks to centuries of oppression by the Laivasti Empire, the Southeners and Marsher alike were united against a common enemy and eventually emerged victorious. A highlight of this was the Battle of Gavilssen’s Creek, where a combined Southerner-Marsher rebellion force decimated the combined might of the XVI, XII, and XV Legions of the Laivasti Empire through shrewd strategy and ferocity.

Below: A Vikingr of the Tahmyrd.

Image
Today, the Jarldom of Tahmyrd is a key player in the overall politics of Giza. Being a mighty military power and possessing a stranglehold on trade going into the Realm of Majokk, it is typical that the lesser factions of Giza will approach Tahmyrd for protection and/or support in their endeavours. This has been highlighted by the ethnic civil war currently tearing the Interlands apart, where the significant Marsher and Southerner populations there have successfully appealed to Tahmyrd for support.

Militarily, the Tahmyrd are a heavy infantry-orientated power. Their elite Huskarls, are some of the most heavily armoured soldiers in all of Giza, sporting throwing axes, steel round shields, battle axes, greatswords, and steel tipped war spears. Their studded, banded steel armour may inhibit their mobility, but their skill and diehard commitment to achieving their goals have yet to be matched. Overall, the Tahmyrd field a number of heavy infantry supported by bowmen, and a small component of skilled medium cavalry called the Fjlovinkiin. Their Vikingr are a famed heavy infantry employed by Tahmyrd, who possess a similar number of weapons as their Huskarl cousins, but are not as heavily armoured nor are as skilled.

The Kingdom of Sallowstein prides itself on being one of the most aggressive kingdoms in all of Giza. With constant wars with both the Kingdoms of Hauntopfis and Alloskindr, the Sallowsteinites have been one of the most expansion-focused kingdoms, with their priority being to upset the current balance of power in Giza. As a result, this has made the kingdom extremely unpopular with the ruling factions, and immensely popular with the smaller factions and princedoms who see Sallowstein as an ally to further their causes. Lead by the well-respected, King Celvin Paetroff IV, the Sallowsteinite ambition is to become the dominant power in all of Giza, which has brought them into conflict with Tahmyrd, Hauntopfis, Old Laivast, and even the Guardian Order.

Below: A member of the von Jargrinsk

Image
Founded from an armed rebellion by the House of Paetroff against the now-extinct Kingdom of Olliverstav, Kingdom of Dyavair, and Kingdom of Ty’Normia, the Kingdom of Sallowstein has used its position and the control of the fertile fields of Tolmshaand to field massive armies and to overwhelm their enemies through sheer numbers. As a result, the Kingdom of Sallowstein is one of the most populated kingdoms in all of Giza. It is a strong exporter of various agricultural products such as grain, pork, and beef, as well as livestock such as cows, horses, and pigs. The majority of the foodstocks of Giza come from Sallowstein.

Today, the Kingdom of Sallowstein is embroiled in another war with the Kingdom of Alloskindr as it attempts to expand its eastern border. The Kingdom has prided itself on being one of the few powers who still recognize the threat of the forces of Lands of Fire, and the Worshippers of Chaos. As a result, it has traditionally diverted resources to the Border Princes to fight these threats, but has become increasingly distant from its support role.

Image

The forces of Sallowstein promote a small heavy infantry core, alongside a massive number of polearm-wielding levies, and components of heavy cavalry & skilled archers. A notable force of Sallowstein are their von Jargrinsk infantry, who resemble their western Hauntopfis soldiers. Heavily armoured, wielding steel greatswords, and highly skilled, the von Jargrinsk are an incredibly versatile and mobile shock troop that Sallowstein uses effectively against their foes. Additionally, the Kingdom’s Vajarisk Guard, who have studied in the fighting ways of the Guardians, are some of the few magic-wielding, heavy infantry in all of Giza, aside from the Guardians. They are armed with steel claymores, and Maytar arming swords, and are proficient in both Byartir and Veilishan.

The Kingdom of Hauntopfis, nicknamed “The Bear of the North”, are one of the most powerful successor kingdoms in Giza. Its capital Jollistov, also known as the “Northern Gem”, is one of the most strategically and economically important city in the northern regions of Giza, being the gateway to the trade routes north to Vinterlaandr & Kyjorvinsk. Hauntopfis itself has an illustrious yet painful past. Founded as a successor kingdom between the princes of Nayyair, Hauntopfis has known only bloodshed during its entire existence. Through constant wars with either the Jaukknayr, the Kingdom of Sallowstein, or to the south with the Kingdom of Darridsten, this state of warfare has made the kingdom produce some of the finest infantry in all of Giza.

Originally, much like their neighbours in the North Princes, a collection of various princedoms and dukedoms, Hauntopfis was united under one banner through a lengthy number of wars and diplomacy by the Carlshalms. It was through the Carlshalms that the Kingdom of Hauntopfis was born, with its main priority to unite the north against common enemies in the Old Laivast and the Jaukknayr tribes. By means of warfare, the Carlshalms expanded westwards into the independent Northern Princes, and northwards against settled Jaukknayr tribes. Both of these foes possessed little to no means to counteract these incursions. Eventually, the expansion of Hauntopfis became known to the Kingdom of Old Laivast, who sent an expeditionary force in 853 AF in support of the now-deceased Lord Prince Xavier de Luca of the Pattyirsk Princedom. What followed was a short yet bloody war between Old Laivast and the Pattyirsk Princedom against the Kingdom of Hauntopfis.

Image
Above: A member of the Dalvahlm.
Today, Hauntopfis stands as the premier power of the north. However, it has suffered immense provocations from their neighbours in the Kingdom of Sallowstein. While no war has come of these provocations, the subsequent raiding by mercenaries known to be employed by Sallowstein have upset the Bear, and war is inevitable. Additionally, Hauntopfis has continued to attempt to influence the remaining independent North Princes to swear fealty and join the Kingdom. While all of this is taking place, there is a quiet strategy taking place to rally the banners against the emerging threat of a united Jaukknayr army from the north.

Militarily, Hauntopfis boasts heavily armoured, two-handed weapons-wielding soldiers. Two specific infantry types are known for their tenacity and immense skill. The au Cilfaan, are heavily armored swordsmen who are known for their iconic helmet, and teal-themed sigils. The Dalvahlm, are equally as skilled swordsmen who wield Maytar bastard swords. The Kingdom’s levy system calls for a mixed group of heavily armored halberdsmen and greatsword-wielding infantry, as well as picked crossbowmen and heavy cavalry, “The Crimson” being Hauntopfis’ finest horsemen available.

KINGDOM OF ALLOSKINDR

Image

Population: 21,000,000Languages: Mother TongueDemonym: AlloskindrGovernment Type: Feudal MonarchyRuling House: van JolkithRuler: King of the Midlands Matthias au Kalsingr VI
Capital City: South-SairsMajor Holdings: Komplis PassReligion: The House of the FamilyCulture: Midlander, Brecandite, SouthernerMajor Exports: PlaceholderMajor Imports: Placeholder

Known as the “Wardens of the East”, the Kingdom of Alloskindr is one of the few successor kingdoms that succeeded peacefully from the Laivasti Empire. Well respected by the majority of the successor kingdoms, the Kingdom of Alloskindr has been traditionally silent in the affairs of Giza, rather focusing on maintaining its status as a power, to keep in check raiders & invaders from the Realm of Majokk to the east, and to remain friendly with all successor kingdoms. Overall, Alloskindr has been a steady and constant presence in Giza, particularly during times of turmoil.

Founded as an obvious independent entity from the Laivasti Empire, the Kingdom of Alloskindr sought permission from the Emperor for independence. The reasons were a mix of that the eastern vassals had operated seemingly independent of imperial rule due to their constant skirmishes with raiders and men of chaos from beyond the Rot. As their request was granted, with the Empire preferring to focus its military efforts on more domestic areas, the Kingdom quickly established close ties with its southern neighbors in Tahmyrd, and its eastern neighbors in the Kingdom of Ty’Normia. Throughout its existence, Alloskindr has seen little change in its borders, with the exception of the annexation of the Princedom of Dazziak in 1003 AF. However, the kingdom has pursued a policy of containment against its new rival in the Kingdom of Sallowstein, supporting both the Kingdom of Ty’Normia against Sallowstein, as well as Hauntopfis.

Today, although Alloskindr had traditionally supported the Border Princes in their fight against the Men of Chaos, much of its resources have now been diverted to what is being called the Alloskindr-Sallowsteinite Frontiers War. Ruled by King of the Midlands, Matthias au Kalsingr VI, Alloskindr’s Frontiers War has slowly evolved into more of a war of survival against the numerous Sallowsteinites. With little reprise or support from another power in sight, many have questioned if Alloskindr will become the next victim of the expansionist Sallowsteinites.

Militarily, Alloskindr follows a typical feudal military, with heavy emphasis on elite heavy cavalry supported by massed polearm-wielding levy infantry and archers. The Alloskindr noble cavalry, called Kalfehlm, are some of the finest horsemen in all of Giza. Armed with double-edged steel bastard swords, plate armor, and fielding some of the best horses in all of Giza, the Kalfehlm have slowly evolved from an Alloskindr-only cavalry force to also being present in many eastern mercenary companies..

Image
The Kingdom of Old Laivast are claimants to the power left behind by the Laivasti Empire. Owning the city of Lyiamst, the ancient capital of the once great empire, the Kingdom has pursued an aggressive foreign policy against its neighboring kingdoms. As a result, the Old Laivast comes in conflict often with its neighbors in the Jarldom of Tahmyrd and the Kingdom of Darridsten. Despite being in such a war-like state, the Old Laivast also maintains healthy relations with its northern neighbors in the Kingdom of Hauntopfis and the Kingdom of Alloskindr.

Much like the successor kingdoms, the Kingdom of Old Laivast is a remnant of the grand Laivasti Empire. Unlike the other successor kingdoms however, the Kingdom of Old Laivast retained a fair portion of the imperial court, and associated houses. Its beliefs, traditions, habits, and everything in between resembles much of the old empire. After the fall of the Laivasti Empire, the Kingdom of Old Laivast was formed from a group of powerful imperial nobles who wished to maintain their position of power and to unite against the now-realized threat of the empire’s once subjected peoples.

Overall, the Kingdom is located on the South-Western portion of Giza, near the important southern trade routes that lead into Giza. As a result, the Kingdom is overall an extremely wealthy kingdom and is able to project its power through a mix of military might and finances. Its politics reflects its expansionist policy, as many of its lords believe that the kingdom is destined to reunite Giza underneath its banner and to return to the days of the Empire.

Militarily, the Kingdom of Old Laivast are known for their elite heavy cavalry component of Knjari, or in Mother Tongue “the Mounted Ones”. Wielding war lances, equipped with heavy plate mail armor, and the fastest horses the kingdom can offer, the Knijari are feared by the kingdom’s enemies and welcomed by their allies. Additionally, the kingdom fields a wide variety of mixed soldiers such as longbowmen from the south shores of Kyzaniir, crossbowmen from their own peasant forces, and glaive infantry. Additionally, alongside of their core group of soldiers raised from their own realm, by utilizing its financial resources, the Kingdom has also been known to employ skilled mercenaries such as the Kaivailanite armored cavalry archers, seafaring marauders from the Shattered Isles, and famed heavy “tailed” infantry from the distant realms of Kyjorvinsk.

THE NORTH PRINCES

Image

Image
The North Princes are a loose collection of various independent princedoms located in the North/North-Western portion of Giza. Seen as an external threat by the Kingdom of Hauntopfis, the North Princes have remained disunified thanks to the larger kingdom’s ability to pick and choose which princes it supports in order to keep the princedoms from uniting underneath a common banner as a contender to Hauntopfis’ uncontested rule over the north.

Despite the North Princes’ disunification, there have been a number of attempts to unite them underneath the identity of a true Northerner kingdom, with no influence from the deceased Laivasti Empire. The most recent was Crown Prince Alesandr au Majikvis, ruler of the city of Rtudorf, and a number of castles. Under au Majikvis’ rule, a number of princes flocked to his banner either through submission or through conquest. Eventually, au Majikvis’ strength grew too much for the Kingdom of Hauntopfis, who supported one of his rivals and through that support, raised an army and began the decisive War of the Crows. During this war, the region of Markoshallow was devastated by both sides through a war of attrition. In the end, au Majikvis capitulated and was executed by Hauntopfis in Ayaidr.

Image
Today, the North Princes remain disunified, save for the Princedom of Tilkvissen which rules over a significant portion of Markoshallow and the city of Rtudorf. The northernmost princes have been consumed with a war of survival against the Jaukknayr tribes, while the rest squabble and fight among themselves. The overall goal of the individual princes is to once again to reunify, and establish a kingdom in the north to rival that of the Kingdom of Hauntopfis.

The military of the North Princes is a mix of heavy, two-handed sword wielding infantry called Dressikken, and capable medium cavalry who are skilled in both skirmishing and hand-to-hand fighting, called Sweriddsson. This typically small, core group of professional and well-trained soldiers are accompanied by massed levies and archers. The reliance on these well-trained individual soldiers has led to the North Princes utilizing various shock military strategies and wars of attrition against larger foes in order to equalize the playing fields. As a result, some of the best military minds have come from the North, as the constant wars allow new strategies to be constantly practiced and put to use.

THE ORDER OF THE GUARDIAS REAL (The Guardian Order)

Image
Above: A Member of the 13th Company.
The Guardias Real, or Guardian Order (commonly known as simply “the Guardians” or “the Order”) in Mother Tongue, is a powerful and secretive society located in the citadel of Guardias in the Courriat region. Known for their esteemed and famous 15 Companies, better known as “The Fifteen”, the Guardians were established in order to protect the continent of Giza from both external and inhuman forces, and from internal forces who would try to upset the balance of life and power.

Not much is known about the founding of the Order itself. It is widely believed that it was founded during the Age of Birth by the Mother Goddes, Ilysa, following the threat of daemonic forces from the Lands of Fire. Originally, the Order was simply used to combat these supernatural forces in order to protect the humans of Giza from them. By being given the blessing of Ilysa, the Order carried out this duty with profound effect and success. Unlike normal humans, having the Blessing of Ilysa meant that the Order was able to utilize the Eternal Realms in order to enhance their abilities to supernatural extents. Concepts now well-known to specialized and well-trained non-Guardians such as the Veilishan, or “Shadow Step”, and the Byartir, or “Awakening”, were developed thanks to this blessing. In extreme cases, the Blessing also allowed the Order to conduct affairs that would otherwise be deemed heretical by the Gods such as utilizing the power of daemons temporarily, allowing the Guardians to enhance their ability during a difficult situation.

Image
Above: A vice-captain of the 9th Company
However, over time the Order’s duties and responsibilities evolved from simply supernatural gatekeepers of Giza, and slowly emerged as a dominant and well-trained peacekeeping force for Giza itself. This became highlighted during the Age of Conquest, were the squabbling kingdoms of Giza eventually had their conflicts spill over onto the Order. The result was the brief but bloody War of Six, where the combined might of five kingdoms were pitted against the Fifteen in which the Order, despite being heavily outnumbered, defeated the kingdoms and established their independence from the politics of the kingdoms.

The Guardians themselves are moderately-armed, utilizing an array of various metal armors with their company’s sigil on it and weapons. Additionally, each guardian has a specialized helmet, on which possesses a number that notes what company the guardian belongs to as well as a colored band around their sword arm. Each guardian company has a captain and a vice-captain, the captain wearing a moderately-sized cape with the company’s color on it, and the vice-captain possesses a similar but smaller-sized cape. Every guardian can wield magic, and utilize Veilishan, but not every guardian can wield advanced magic such as Byartir. Typically, only captains, vice-captains, and high-ranking guardians can wield Byartir properly.

The Guardians reside in Guardias, a fortified, and enormous citadel located in Courriat.

This is the current company organization of the Guardian Order. Each company, unless specified otherwise, serves no specific function.

Nickname: "The Lost"
Role: Disavowed & Outlawed Company; Officially no longer in existence
Colour: Teal
Emblem: A Teal-Dark Green Serpent
Biography:

The XV Company was a Guardian Company. However, after accounts of its last captain, Mikael Vanjuskot, was using the company's immense power and prestige for his own personal gain, the company was disavowed, outlawed, and its number was banned from further use. It is rumoured that the renegade guardians from the XV Company fled over the Rot into the Lands of Fire in order to harness the powers of Chaos for their own personal gains, whilst others remained in Giza, turning to crime and lawlessness. As a result, the XV Company is looked on in shame in the Order's community.

Notable Guardians:
  • Mikael Vanjuskot - Former captain
Council - The 75-man council of the Guardians made up of both young, but politically savvy guardians & old, yet experienced guardians.

MINOR FACTIONS

KINGDOM OF DARRIDSTEN

Image
Above: A Kingdom of Darridsten Holksjahm.
Formerly an outstanding province of the Laivasti Empire, the Kingdom of Darridsten is seen by the majority of the successor kingdoms as an “outcast”. Even though the Kingdom is relatively uninvolved with the ongoing politics of Giza, it is still subject to constant hostilities from its neighbors in the Kingdom of Hauntopfis and the Kingdom of Old Laivast. As a result, the Kingdom of Darridsten has maintained a passive yet extremely defensive foreign policy, establishing closer ties with its north-eastern neighbors in the Kingdom of Sallowstein and the Guardian Order.

The Kingdom of Darridsten was founded by the former imperial governor of Rylakstok under the authority of the Laivasti Emperor. Following the fall of the empire, and in the ensuing Wars of Disunification, the Kingdom of Darridsten was formed as a protective barrier against the warring kingdoms in both the north and south. Utilizing the Lake of Tears and Petyr’s Range as a buffer to control its borders, Darridsten has been locked in maintaining its independence ever since from both internal and external threats.

The Kingdom itself is now ruled by the House of Kaipilsten, a bastard cadet branch of the now-extinct House of Kaivais, the Laivasti Empire’s Imperial Governors of Rylastok. Despite the miniscule size of the House of Kaipilsten, its current head of house, King Autorl II, has pursued various marriage ties with the larger kingdoms of Giza in order to protect his own kingdom’s position.

The Kingdom of Darridsten’s military, much like the Kingdom of Old Laivast, fields a strong component of heavily armored knights and mounted sergeants, with a polearm-based infantry core and a variety of peasant longbowmen and crossbowmen for their ranged options. Their royal guard, the Holksjahm, are a cataphract-medieval knight crossbreed, boasting an extremely potent lance along with a mix of arming swords and maces for their personal defense weapons.

THE ISLAND PRINCES

The Island Princes are a collection of various independent, small, princedoms that rule over parts of the Shattered Isles. Leftovers from the Empire of Laivast, the Island Princes are a fiercely independent folk who incorporate aspects of both the Northerners and the Wildlander culture thanks to their incorporation into the Empire. Unlike their mainland counterparts in the Northern Princes, the Island Princes are not involved in any mainland politics, and mostly fight amongst themselves.

As of now, the Shattered Isles remain as the name suggests: shattered. While the princedoms here fight amongst themselves, they have always united against a common foe when the situation calls for it. A notable example could be the Kingdom of Old Laivast's failed expedition of

Much like the Iskiandr who inhabited the Shattered Isles before the Island Princes, it is widely believed that the Shattered Isles are destined to be unified underneath a single banner and crown, independent of the mainland. “The Kingdom of the Isles” is what the Iskiandr and Island Princes believe in, and the ultimate goal for an Island Prince is to unite the Isles underneath their own House.

THE JAUKKNAYR

Below: A Jaukknayr.

Image
The Jaukknayr Tribes, or simply the Jaukknayr, are a collection of various independent, warring tribes that reside north of Giza in the continent of Vinterlaandr. Whilst independent of any crown and ruler, the Jaukknayr strongly believe that their way of life calls for eternal war in order to be granted an eternity of rest in the afterlife as a reward for their mortal actions. Due to this, the Jaukknayr constantly raid the northern regions of Giza in order to satisfy this belief.

Occasionally, the various Jaukknayr tribes will unite under the leadership of notable individuals, who lead them in invasion forces of northern Giza. This title, known as Tokvanjr, or “Chosen”, is only given to war chiefs who the tribes believe will lead them to success in Giza. The Jaukknayr are known for their horse archery talents, as well as their premier scouting abilities in the north. Unlike in other cultures in Giza, the Jaukknayr believe that anyone who is able to properly fire an arrow and ride a horse is an equal to one another. As a result, many can commonly find females fighting alongside male companions.

DISTANT/SUPERNATURAL FACTIONS

THE WORSHIPPERS OF CHAOS

Image

Image
The Worshippers of Chaos, nicknamed "Heretics", are a loosely-collected organization of militarist groups whose sole purpose is to advance the influence of the Gods of Chaos, particularly the main deity, Lok'vanji-haan. Willing to obtain this goal primarily through violence or the corruption of individuals, the Worshippers of Chaos from the Lands of Fire have always been the top priority of the Guardian Order in order to safeguard the well-being of the people of Giza.

Chaos, and the House of Chaos, has always been a corrupting influence. With promises of eternal riches, influence, and power, many, from commonfolk to nobility, have fallen victim to the sinister motives and desires of the Gods of Chaos. Those who have fallen to the temptations of Chaos have typically led whatever power and influence they had in order to carry out the evil deeds of their masters. These deeds include the coercion, blackmail, enslavement, and murder of others in order to advance the interests of Chaos. While throughout Giza's existence, the majority of its people have never really experienced the true power of Chaos nor the horrors lurking in the Lands of Fire, those who have possess an immense understanding of the true threat the Worshippers of Chaos present.

LOS KYEVOS

Image
The Los Kyevos Company is a supernatural company of hostile beings from the Lands of Fire. Consisting of various magic-wielding warriors of Chaos, servants of Chaos, and renegade Guardians, the company is an extremely dangerous and potent force. Not much is known about them, except for a rumoured potential invasion of Giza by their forces.

While unknown to Giza, a fair component of Los Kyevos' forces are comprised of immortal chaotic veterans of Mahalk the Magnificent's invasion force. These veterans include:
  • Troll-men, slightly taller than the tallest men in Giza, wielding black steel halberds and possessing daemonic horns sprouting from their skulls.
  • Corrupted Beings, formerly men but who have been consumed by the powers of chaos to the point where they have become unrecognizable, possessing various tentacles, extra limbs, contorted faces. They are heaps of flesh who, in battle, fly into a bloodthirsty frenzy and sometimes are unable to tell friend from foe alike.
  • Dark Centaurs, mythical, skilled, and warlike beings from the Age of Birth, who are more potent than the most skilled archers in all of Giza.
  • Hellbeasts, giant grey beasts who are used similar to that of the Elephantos from the realm of Majokk. Terrifying, but more importantly, extremely hostile chaotic beasts who gore and consume their victims.

THE EMPIRE OF KAILVAILAN

Image

Image
The Empire of Kailvailan is a large empire based on the continent of Tampillat, East of Giza. Known for their heavy emphasis on archery, cavalry, and spear-wielding abilities, the Kailvailanites have historically had strategic interests in Giza. While there have been efforts in the past by the grand empire to subjugate the peoples of Giza, none of these efforts have been successful due to both the resilience of Giza, and the intervention of the Guardian Order.

There have been worries from time to time that the Empire of Kaivailan will aim to expand its dominance once again on the people of Giza. While the Empire does have its worries about the threat of Chaos, the Empire's immense wealth, resources, and seemingly endless manpower has left it with little to fear from the endless hordes of Chaos. Emperor-Eternal Mikael ant-Ak'garin III has publicly declared time and time again that the Empire's goal should be to continue its expansion & influence throughout Pallias, and that the worries of the few should not scare the Griffyn in its pursuits.

Image
During the existence of the Laivasti Empire, the Kailvailanite Empire had maintained cordial relations with its fellow superpower. After the collapse of the Laivasti Empire, the Kaivailanite relationship changed completely. The Kaivailanites began to play favourites and started meddling in the internal politics of Giza. Their nobles and traders constantly visit Giza in hopes to making one of the squabbling kingdoms to recognize the Empire's attempted dominance and reconciliation of the region. This has been to no avail, and despite constant threats of war and invasion, little has emerged. Save for a number of failed expeditionary forces, which have been defeated either by the unified effort of the successor kingdoms, by the Guardians, or both, there has been no military action on behalf of the Kaivailanites. Instead, the Empire now stands by and watches, waiting for its time to strike when all of the warring kingdoms are distracted by a common threat.

CONTINENT OF PALLIAS, GIZA, & THEIR REGIONS

Image Image

The super-continent of Pallias is home to a number of continents/regions (the term is used interchangeably). Possessing a diverse climate and biomes, the super-continent is something to behold. Unlike on Earth, Pallias does not follow a set geographic climate, but instead the Eternal Realm and its influence has massive consequences on the various wildlife and ecosystems that populate Pallias.

CULTURES

Brecandite – The Brecandite are the race of men who inhabit the Borderlands, the Bloody Fields, and parts of Tolmshaand. While not much are known about their origins, these men are extremely dedicated to their adopted duty to help protect Giza from the forces beyond the Rot. As a result, natural characteristics of the Brecandites have been politeness, dedication, and loyalty, and a constant state of warfare against forces from beyond the Rot has made the Brecandites some of the finest warriors in all of Giza.

Iskiandr – The Iskiandr are the natives of the Shattered Isles. Many believe that the Iskiandr were originally Marshers who emigrated to the Isles via boat for the expansion of land during the Age of Birth. Hearty seamen, the Iskiandr lived a life of pillaging and raiding the coasts of Giza before they were forcefully subjugated by the Laivasti Empire in 102 AF. From there, the natives, much like the Marshers, were subjected to constant abuse and oppression by the Laivasti forces. Additionally, they were constantly pushed down by immigrating Northerners as second-rate citizens, and suffered immensely, leading to a built-up resentment against the mainland of Giza.

Jaukknayr – The Jaukknayr are native to the winter continent of Vinterlaandr, north of Giza. Warlike, semi-nomadic, and skilled horse archers, the Jaukknayr way of life is to raid, plunder, and destroy their foes in the art of warfare. There has been settling of some Jaukknayr tribes into the northern regions of Giza, seeing a sizable population emerge in the Markoshallow region, but the vast majority still reside in Vinterlaandr, fighting amongst themselves and raiding the northern regions of Giza.

Marshers – The Marshers are the natives of Southern Giza. Known for their ferocity and hunting prowess, the Marshmen suffered heavily at the hands of the autocracy in the Empire of Laivast. As a result, anyone born to the Marshers culture, typically harbors a deep resentment of the Wildlanders. Physically, Marshers tend to be larger than a typical human, and have more olive skin.

Midlanders – Midlanders are the native peoples of Central and Eastern Giza, namely the Tolmshaand, Midlandis, the southern regions of Nayyair. Known for their dedication, and fierce independence, it was the Midlanders who resisted the advance of the Laivasti Empire during the Empire’s advance north. Seen as tough and strong by other cultures, Midlanders pride themselves on their ability to resist the toughest conditions, and their unnatural connection to both the Gods and Nature.

Northerners – Northerners are the inhabitants of the North-Western portions of Giza. Their lineage can be traced back to the first inhabitants of Northern Giza in the Jaukknayr. Unlike the Jaukknayr however, whilst the Northerners possess a natural talent for archery, they have “civilized” to the point where others are willing to trade and do business with them. Additionally, the Northerners have no love for raiding or pillaging during times of peace and have pursued more peaceful methods of economic activities. The Northerners have fair skin, and typically possess dark brown hair.

Southerners - Southerners are the peoples of the Vankillsholm region. Known for their war-like ways and seafaring culture, the Southerners were one of the first subjugated peoples by the Laivasti Empire due to this. Following the empire’s collapse, the Southerners emerged with a burning hatred for their Wildlanders oppressors, and much like the Marshers, habor a deep resentment of the Wildlander culture. In typical Southerners’ culture, it is customary for men to grow long beards, as it represents their status as a warrior and fighter. As a result, the vast majority of males in Southerners culture have beards. In Southerners culture as well, women are viewed as equals in both combat and society, and as a result many women can be seen ruling as both jarls and in high positions in society.

Wildlanders – The Wildlanders emerged in the Kynaziir, Courriat, and Pianjar regions of Giza. Eventually, after years of fighting amongst themselves, they began to unite as various independent dukedoms and kingdoms before expanding outwards into Giza. It was the Wildlanders who created the Laivasti Empire and subjugated the majority of Giza underneath their banner, before the eventual collapse of the empire. Known for their fair skin, light brown or blonde hair, and an authoritarian-orientated look on society, the Wildlanders have become the most populous people in all of Giza.

MAGIC

Magic in Giza is a difficult subject. Already, magic itself is a concept created by Man, and its official name is the Power to the Eternal Realm. While heavily regulated in the majority of Giza, and seen mostly as a prestigious practice by many, it comes as no surprise that magic has its downsides as well as its upsides.

In general, magic takes an incredible amount of skill, time, and dedication to learn. The most learned magic-wielding people in all of Giza are the Guardians of the Order of the Guardias Real. It was the Guardians in the early ages who created magic and utilized its raw power in order to generalize it and to make it more accessible to individuals who could handle its properties.

Today, a number of well-respected magic universities exist around Giza. While many are supposed to be independent of the kingdoms they exist in, these universities have been known to try to train soldiers of their respective kingdoms in the verses and theory of magic. While amoral and unethical, since the entire point of these magic universities are to be in the pursuit on knowledge, many turn a blind eye to this absolute disregard of original objectives. The only “neutral” educational institution that remains are the College of Ardwis in Rtudorf, and the Universitas des Guardias in Guardias.

LANGUAGES

Note, these are listed in terms of active speakers, with the most active being on the top, and the least active being on the bottom.

To be listed on here, the language requires an active ~10,000 speakers.

Mother Tongue - The most commonly spoken language across Giza, Mother Tongue was developed in 625 BF by the Order of the Guardias Real to linguistically centralize and unify Giza's various languages. Primarily based off of "Old Tongue", the Guardians designed the language so that it was both simple in its usage and applications, with words being able to have multiple connotations. As a result, the language's popularity and usage quickly grew thanks to its flexibility and somewhat easy-to-learn concepts. One fact that many scholars now fail to mention is that the various tribes, independent petty kings, and realms were initially resistant to the idea of a common tongue, insisting that their own individual languages were part of their cultural identity. The Guardians, as a result, helped to facilitate the language's growth by incentivizing kingdoms to learn the language by providing them with either Guardian scholars or volunteer Guardians to be used as teachers.

Real Life Equivalent: Middle English.

Laivossi - When the majority of Giza had been subjugated by the Laivasti Empire, the Empire expanded its ideas to try and push out the influence of the Guardian Order from interfering in its newly consolidated land. Thus began a century long linguistic struggle between the two as the Laivasti began using a local native language as its formal language. Formerly known as "High Tkau'vjak", the language was essentially reinvented as Laivossi, with the Empire spending countless of years re-writing every detail of the language down to how each sentence was to be structured in formal greetings to siblings, elder family members, younger family members, etc. It was a highly structured and detailed language, and easily rivalled the creation of Mother Tongue. After the fall of the empire however, Laivossi saw a decreased usage in its former frontier territories as they reverted back to either Mother Tongue or tried to return to their native languages. Despite this, Laivossi remains the second-most spoken language in all of Giza.

Real Life Equivalent: Latin, with influences of Persian & Greek.

Old Tongue - Nicknamed "Father's Tongue" by the elder generation, Old Tongue is the native language of Central & North-East Giza. Old Tongue is a combination of various languages spoken in the early days of man. By the time of Mother Language's invention, Old Tongue was incredibly complicated and possessed numerous local dialects that sometimes resembled completely different languages. Today, despite the popularity of Mother's Tongue, Old Tongue is still widely spoken in its native regions, but at a local scale. It remains however, the third-most spoken language in all of Giza, and many of the peoples from Central & North-East Giza are typically bilingual in both Mother's Tongue and Old Tongue.

Real Life Equivalent: Mixture of Old English, Welsh, and Gaelic.

C'letkes

Aesthelingr

Northspeak - The once proud language of Northspeak, known in its own language as "Vilkshanjr", is the native tongue of the Shattered Isles, North & North-Western Giza. Linguistically similar to Aesthelingr, scholars have proposed the idea that Northspeak and Aesthelingr were once the same language but over time, primarily due to distance, grew into two distinct languages. Northspeak, defined by Guardian scholars, is an endangered language thanks to countless centuries of brutal cultural genocide by the Laivasti Empire during their conquest of the north. While the Shattered Isles retained their independent ability to communicate in Northspeak, the mainland was not so lucky. As a result, primarily northern tribes and the older generations can only speak in Northspeak.

Real Life Equivalent: Old Norse.

GIZA: Los Kyevos is open for preliminary applications!

The IC will not be posted for a while. I'll be working my due diligence on trying to get everything in order for the IC. Please be kind, it's just been myself working on this so far with brief brainstorming sessions with my staff.

Please note that unless if it is posted on the OOC, the lore can be flexible in terms of what you post. If you are unsure of what you are posting is okay, contact myself or one of the Co-OPs via TG.
