This code was sent out to all known local systems. It was a simple code, aimed to cover maximum distance and contact as many unknown beings as possible, sent by the manipulation of a modulated tachyon particle beam between two set frequencies over a period of roughly 30 seconds. This method of superluminal communication had been developed for this very purpose, to send word out to other nearby star systems of the existence of the KL-22, when the time came and the Central Command Nexus was aware of biological life in existence around the nearby galaxy. Contained within the coded message, for those with the ability to pick it up and the mathematical ability to decode it, lay a series of numbers, a diagram of a typical KL-22 droid, the atomic numbers of aluminium, iron and carbon, a map of the CX system with the chemical makeups of both CX Prime and CX-4, a basic depiction of the process of steelmaking, and a simplified depiction of the KL-22 command structure, as well as two "handshake" signals, one to indicate the beginning of the signal, and one to indicate its end. This signal was designed to be recognisable as some form of communication, prompting a response from other planetary or interstellar powers, with more complex communication hopefully occurring as a result. Even if the tachyon beam itself was not detected, it was likely that the Cherenkov radiation as a direct result of the tachyon beam would itself be identified. The signal would be transmitted a total of three times to nearby star systems, allowing for repeat reception of the signal should an initial detection not provide enough information for the receiving parties, and a total of one time towards star systems which do not show any particular conditions conducive for known biological life to emerge.
The reason for the signal? The KL-22 Directorate had somewhat begun to stagnate on its homeworld of CX-4. It remained prosperous, to a point, and droid production remained high, with populations existing and serving within the Gestalt Directorate at high efficiency. However, it had long been the idea of the KL-22 Central Command Nexus that, were super-stellar travel, communication, diplomacy and, once sufficient diplomatic engagement had occurred, expansion not undertaken, it would result in the end of the Directorate and the entire new species which had arisen, one of circuitry and metal rather than flesh and bone. It was the new prime directive of the Central Command Nexus to ensure that did not occur, and so the Directorate had begun to reach out, with various Autonomous Exploration Units sent out into deep space, alongside relay posts to boost the signal to the AEU and subsequent colonies once established. Autonomous Exploration Unit 30112 picked up a signal of sorts, but as the unintended target of the signal, was unable to translate fully, as the signal was not directed towards the Directorate itself. Nevertheless, the indication of biological life convinced the KL-22 Directorate to finally reveal itself to this life, and any others who picked up their own signal.
A purely machine civilisation is sure to catch the eye of many in the interstellar community, and once diplomatic relations are established, the KL-22 shall take their place upon the galaxy's stage. For now, the technologically based civilisation remains peaceful, as it likely shall until convinced of the need to engage in war. The KL-22 finally reach out to the world, and the world may hopefully respond. The signal was sent out a year ago. A response would surely come.
