From the animals posted above, choose one as a pet. Leave animals for the next player to select from:

And go:
Tasmanian devil or penguin?

Jackalope. The Capybara, while certainly adorable, is not a downright mythical creature which is scantly seen, much less captured, (presumably) socialised to at least a minimal degree, and kept as a pet. It would also be a fascinating topic for research, seeing how it's genetically distinct from common varieties of hare, what purpose its antlers serve, etc.

Not only am I forgetful but I'm also apparently slow as a slow thing in molasses.

Snake. Or snek, as the case may be, if it's literally some heretofore unknown creature by that name and not just fanciful spelling. Because snakes are surely much more manageable than crocodiles, and again, a fanciful creature would be extra fascinating.

Kitten or puppy?

Puppy, namely as kittens can ultimately become quite capricious and aloof, while puppies almost universally tend to be lovable even into adulthood.
