Every nation has its own values and beliefs. This is the deeper aspect of a nation’s culture, and what gives nations their identity. It is what it means to be part of that nation, and what the people value. What are the core values of your nation? What beliefs do YN’s people share?

Here is an example of a nation’s core values:

The United States of America have these values that makes it what it is:

1. PERSONAL CONTROL OVER THE ENVIRONMENT
People can/should control nature, their own environment and destiny. The future is not left to fate.
Result: An energetic, goal-oriented society.

2. CHANGE / MOBILITY
Change is seen as positive and good. This means progress, improvement and growth.
Result: An established transient society geographically, economically and socially.

3. TIME AND ITS IMPORTANCE
Time is valuable - achievement of goals depends on the productive use of time.
Result: An efficient and progressive society often at the expense of interpersonal relationships.

4. EQUALITY / EGALITARIANISM
People have equal opportunities; people are important as individuals, for who they are, not from which family they come.
Result: A society where little deference is shown or status is acknowledged.

5. INDIVIDUALISM, INDEPENDENCE AND PRIVACY
People are seen as separate individuals (not group members) with individual needs. People need time to be alone and to be themselves.
Result: Americans may be seen as self-centered and sometimes isolated and lonely.

6. SELF-HELP
Americans take pride in their own accomplishments.
Result: Americans give respect for self achievements not achievements based on rights of birth.

7. COMPETITION AND FREE ENTERPRISE
Americans believe competition brings out the best in people and free enterprise leads to progress and produces success
Result: Competition is emphasized over cooperation.

8. FUTURE ORIENTATION / OPTIMISM
Americans believe that, regardless of past or present, the future will be better and happier.
Result: Americans place less value on past events and constantly look ahead to tomorrow.

9. ACTION AND WORK ORIENTATION
Americans believe that work is morally right; that it is immoral to waste time.
Result: There is more emphasis on "doing" rather than "being". This is a no-nonsense attitude toward life.

10. INFORMALITY
Americans believe that formality is "un-American" and a show of arrogance and superiority.
Result: A casual, egalitarian attitude between people is more accepted.

11. DIRECTNESS /
OPENNESS / HONESTY
One can only trust people who "look you in the eye" and "tell it like it is". Truth is a function of reality not of circumstance.
Result: People tend to tell the "truth" and not worry about saving the other person's "face" or "honor".

12. PRACTICALITY / EFFICIENCY
Practicality is usually the most important consideration when decisions are to be made.
Result: Americans place less emphasis on the subjective, aesthetic, emotional or consensual decisions.

13. MATERIALISM / ACQUISITIVENESS
Material goods are seen as the just rewards of hard-work, the evidence of "God's favor."
Result: Americans are seen as caring more for things than people or relationships.

Faithfulness

The Portuguese citizen is a devout Christian who lives by the Bible and the teachings of the Catholic Church. He or she regularly demonstrates his or her devotion by regularly attending Mass, keeping holy days holy, and living like Christ did—free of material decadence and undue earthly attachments.

Morality

The Portuguese citizen exemplifies the virtues of the Lord, whether in public or in private. He or she endeavors to live a life free of evil, sin, vice and scandal, and admonishes all to do the same.

Obedience

The Portuguese citizen accepts and submits to the God-given authority of his or her superiors. He or she honors the family and the State with utmost reverence, only second to his or her religious devotion, and does not hesitate to defend them should they fall under attack by internal or external threats.

Responsibility

The Portuguese citizen does the share of work expected from him or her, and lends assistance to those in need. He or she cherishes the land that he or she lives on, as well as the resources endowed on it by the Lord's grace.

[The Empire of Occitania]

Whilst Occitania venerates competitive spirits, individualism, and liberty as national values, the core values of the Occitan people are perhaps best described by the concept of paratge. The components of paratge are: honour, civility, tolerance, right living, balance, courtesy, excellence, grace and nobility of soul.

Honour: The worth or status of individuals or communities according to the degree to which their lives reflect the norms that they hold in great significance and value. For the people of Occitania, this often means the degree to which they adhere to the other principles of paratge.

Civility: Civilised conduct. Politeness towards others even when in disagreement.

Tolerance: Essentially, freedom from bigotry. To have a permissive and fair attitude toward others whose opinions, practices, race, religion, gender, or nationality differ from one's own.

Right Living: Doing what is right because it is consistent with a higher set of values (such as paratge), rather than shunning what is right for immediate advantage, or simply because you can get away with it.

Balance: A state of equilibrium. The avoidance of excess. A condition of being in harmony with the universe.

Courtesy: Gentle politeness and courtly manners.

Excellence: The pursuit of a talent, skill, or quality that so surpasses the ordinary as to set a standard to which people can aspire.

Grace: Elegance or beauty of form, movement or manner. The charm and courtliness of the Occitan people is an expression of grace.

Nobility of Soul: The refusal to yield to the forces of chaos or evil, and to defend cherished virtues even when facing overwhelming odds. The Finnish concept of sisu is very similar to this.

The core values of the Katasian people:

Personal Freedom: So long as their actions/inactions do not interfere with the rights of others, it is held that a person is free to do anything they wish, even if it's self-destructive

Individual Responsibility: A person is expected to look out for themselves (and their family), and to accept any consequence, good or bad, of their actions

Honesty/Integrity: Even if it's uncomfortable or ugly, the truth is paramount and must always be held onto and fought for

Not Our Problem: Katasian's believe that the goings-on of other nations is those nation's own business, and that it is morally wrong to interfere in affairs that do not affect you

Self-Defense: Any time a person's life is threatened, for any reason, they should be allowed to defend it with everything they have

Rejection Of Authority: Authority, no matter how good, benevolent, or necessary it may be, is the antithesis of personal freedom, and should be challenged at all times, especially authority that claims to exist for the benefit of these values

Nonviolence: The pen is mightier than the sword, and the use of violence to solve problems is an absolute last resort

F*** You!: Katasian's will live their lives as they want to, regardless of the opinions or feelings of those around them

[Strahcoin]

(Note: These values are shared by most, but NOT ALL, Strahconians.)

1. Morality/Justice: The Strahconians believe that chivalry is honorable, murder is evil, etc. They believe that those who commit evil must be punished accordingly. They believe in personal and family responsibility.
   Example result: The death penalty is used for foeticide. Oh, and slavery is also very illegal.
2. Reason: The Strahconians believe that critical thinking and questioning ideas help improve themselves and the nation.
   Example result: Free speech is held sacrosanct, and the Republic de jure neither endorses nor condemns the practice of any specific religion (or lack thereof).
3. Freedom: The Strahconians believe that tyranny will inevitably lead to oppression and evil. They believe that the government should serve the people; not the other way around.
   Example result: Strahcoin is a constitutional republic (not an absolute monarchy, fascist dictatorship, etc.), due process is always used, and free speech is (as stated above) held sacrosanct.
4. Order/Stability: The Strahconians also believe that anarchy (at least the egoist kind) will inevitably lead to tyranny, which will inevitably lead to oppression. They believe that while the government should not infringe upon their inherent rights, it should not disappear entirely.
   Example result: Strahcoin enforces its borders, maintains a strong police force, and owns a powerful military. Traditional values are maintained.
5. Innovation: The Strahconians believe that technology generally improves standards of living, and those that don't won't be able to survive in the free market (since consumers won't buy technology that isn't helpful to them).
   Example result: Strahcoin enforces patents/copyrights, economic regulations are minimal, and the economy is heavily market-based.
6. Meritocracy: The Strahconians believe that those who work hard for success should naturally be rewarded, and those who don't should not expect those who did to give them freebies.
   Example result: There is no public welfare system. (Charity, however, is heavily prominent for those who can't work or are going through trouble that is of no fault of their own.)
7. Expansion: The Strahconians believe that their ideology is superior to that of the majority of Europe (which are, in this timeline, social democracies). The Strahconians believe that their ideas should be spread to those countries.
   Example result: Strahcoin has placed some hefty tariffs for imports and exports with nations of the European Union. (Whether this is good or not is notably disputed amongst the Strahconians.)
8. Americanism: The Strahconians generally strongly support the United States of America. Because an American saved them. And founded this nation.
   Example result: Strahcoin and America (in this timeline) have an official alliance treaty.

[Andocara]

Andocara’s core values:

1. Knowledge

Andocarians value knowledge a lot. They see it as a necessity. This manifests as a society where a lot of information is available and people are quick to call out/distrust false information put in the media.

2. Diversity

People promote cultural, religious, and ethnic diversity and generally expect respect for people’s differences. Newcomers to Andocara aren’t expected to assimilate into mainstream Andocarian culture, and even 2nd generation immigrants have some connection with their culture. There are even a lot of European immigrants whose family has been in Andocara since the early 20th century and still identify with their roots. Another example of this is the government making proselytization illegal, with the only exception being if it were parents changing faiths therefore the immediate family does also.

3. Freedom of true expression

People express their true, authentic self without being subjected to gender, class, or racial stereotypes. A manifestation of this is that there are fewer expectations of what a person should act like based on what their demographic is.

4. Innovation

This core value has lead to Andocara’s booming technology industry and a strong tech culture. Andocarians believe in constant life improvement and new beginnings. Another manifestation of this is when a debate takes place, people try to see where other people are coming from though they still have a right to their own view. The whole point of debates in Andocara is to learn something. Disrespecting a person’s POV is frowned upon.

5. Freedom of Thought

Everyone has the freedom to think however they want to think, without being constricted by social constructs.

The foremost virtues of the Merconite way of life can be described as follows.

1. Fear of God and keeping his commandments.
2. Observance of Merconite traditions and customs.
3. Simple living and rejection of decadence.
4. Acceptance and endurance of hardship.
5. Hard work and service to family and community.
6. Reverence for God's creation.

COMMUNITARIANISM
People are community minded and individualism is discouraged and looked down upon
MORALITY
Ethics and behavior and morals r important in people. There r no de jure laws to fully enforce morals but the culture places this.
LOYALTY
People r expected to form relationships and become bound to certain people causing to sacrifice other things like right and wrong and personal needs and values.

Liberty: An Orosian is first and foremost a person who should be allowed to act as they wish within reasonable limits, and no Orosian should have the power to bend his fellow man to his will through use of force, physical or otherwise. The government exists to protect it's people from infringement of their rights. Orosians should be allowed to act as they want, except when it keeps themselves and others from doing the same.

Co-operation: No Orosian stands alone. If we do not act toward a better future for our fellow citizen, we will all live without safety or liberty.

Equality: Orosians do not stand above one another, all are bound together as people, and their union defies any attempt to divide them by simple matters.

Distinction between the Individual and the Whole: Orosians should be expected to work for the good of all, but are reminded not to neglect their own wellbeing. Everyone's voice should be considered.

Collective Ownership: Private property is an affront to Orosian values, and production should be managed democratically, without the autocratic system of property owners. This does not apply to property not used for the acquisition of profit or the creation of goods.

Equal Opportunity: Orosians should be able to be successful of their merit, not through the favorable or unfavorable circumstances of their lives. Orosians need to work to achieve greater goals. Orosians are expected to give what they can, and get back what they contributed.

[Wochaystein]

The core value of Wochaystein is first and foremost that every person is God's image as well as God's most honorable and pure creation; words that are infused throughout the entire nation by the deeds of the Kaiser himself: 'When the Kaiser guards his people with pride, or honors God with circumspection and wisdom, he is bestowed God's blessing' (Volgrim's Exhortations, 20:112)

God, not man or institution, is the provider of man's happiness and salvation.

In fact, it is this concept of the sufficiency of man that the Wochaysteiner core value addresses in its support for all forms of peace, justice, and human rights.

[Dathiri]

LIBERTY
Largely stemming from the history of Dathiri, the majority of Dathirian people value liberty over any other value. Liberty can take a great many forms, but whatever form it takes, if the Dathirian people are freer as a whole because of it, they will not complain.
Result: A generally more rebellious but also more satisfied populace, and one which would defend their freedom readily.

LUCRE
Again coming from history, the Dathirian people enjoy the ability to make great wealth off of their own work, difficult or otherwise. Given Dathiri's status as a mining world foremost, mining the highly valuable Thirium, often considered more valuable than gold, lucre is easy to achieve.
Result: A harder (or smarter) working populace that values and tries to attain wealth in any way possible.

LIES
The Dathiri people have long known how to lie. It comes from a need to protect themselves from the prison guards who would happily see them given corporal punishment or worse, as well as, of course, their history as criminals under the law of the Uvanshan League.
Result: An often dishonest populace, but one that works well in the shadows.

[Great Nortend]

SOCIETY : Great Nortend values the communal society. Isolation from community activities and events is frowned upon.

FAITH : Piety and devotion is valued, to the extent that at least fortnightly church attendance is over 80 per cent. A common private devotion is the thrice-daily recitation of the Paternoster and Ave Maria at morning, noon and evening, marked by the ringing of bells.

TRADITION : The prevailing motto is “noli mutare non mutandum”. Changes must be carefully considered and not rushed into, as they may have unintended consequences for society.

PATRIOTISM : Patriotism is manifested with allegiance to King, God and country, the protection of the land and the protection of domestic production.

While core values can differ with each individual, it is common among the People's Republic of Zhouran to find citizens who strongly value tradition, nationalism, socialism, universal rights, honor, meritocracy, science & knowledge, national self-defense, solidarity with proletarians of the world, etc.

[Haeresia]

The philosophical foundation of the Axis of Haeresia is enshrined in the book Traktâtus dê Sîgnificâtiône Iûstôque ("A Treatise on Meaning and Justice") by Haeresiac philosopher Ladasclavus Corvînus Iôsêphus. The driving political-economical thought behind Haeresia is Thulean Capitalism, shortened to Thulcap, which advocates for productive free-markets and a one-party state. It promotes a partnership of large corporations and the government, which are often intertwined, in order to secure autarky and sovereignty. The core philosophy behind Thulcap is Transcendental Nihilism which declares the Will of Man as weak, striving for constant self-annihilation, and must therefore be reined by a powerful oligarchy which can secure the wellbeing of man through collectivist metanoia. Transcendental Nihilism rejects all forms of spirituality and establishes radical physicalism as its metaphysics.

The four principles of Thulcap are summarized thus:

• Oligarchy - also called meritocratic oligarchy: only the worthy few, the elite, may engage in governing the state.
• Capitalism - free markets and a surplus of commodities maintain a prosperity.
• Collectivism - the individual must submit himself to the whole.
• Physicalism - also called radical physicalism: there is no spirit nor transcendence; all we have is flesh and so we must nourish it alone.

These four principles form the core tenets of Thulcap, making it is essentially a nihilistic authoritarian capitalism.

Ephyral citizens adhere to an unwritten code of social and personal mores known as the ancestral custom, a guiding set of ideals and virtues that influences Ephyral laws against taboos and for the promotion of its values, with each of the values held in a significant degree of reverence and often personified by a deity. The translations of these virtues from Ephyral High Selian into English may cause a loss of extended meaning, and words selected are those best suited to represent the virtue, which will be further explained.

This is by no means an exhaustive list, as due to lack of codification, individual or familial variation on which virtues are of ancestral weight can vary. These comprise the most common and most relevant.

Authority | A personal virtue acquired through slow, steady, and dedicated cultivation of the rest. it speaks to the weight of a citizen's word and his influence. In women it adopts a more domestic emphasis, befitting the wife of the familial patriarch.

Constance | Perseverance in the face of hardship, strength of mind, and commitment to a task both mental and physical.

Dignity | Worth, honour, prestige - the sum of all other relevant virtues build this in a citizen.

Discipline | Self-control in a loose sense, with a greater emphasis on observance of the law and the military characteristic of men.

Frugality | To live economically and simply, and to disregard that which serves no practical use and causes damage to one's other virtues.

Gravity | A more dedicated virtue of self-control, emphasising mindfulness, an understanding of the situation, and responsibility.

Honesty | To speak truthfully, and to deal with others in an honest manner - reinforced by the fact the spoken word is as binding as a written contract.

Industriousness | To commit to one's work and to work hard, well, and without complaint.

Piety | Duty. All citizens owe it to another. A man has a duty of providence to his wife and children. A patron has a duty of support to his client, and his client a duty of loyalty to him. A daughter has a duty of obedience to her father. It is duty to each other as citizens, duty to the state as patriotism, and as implied the duty to the gods.

Religiousness | Citizens maintain a healthy reverence for the gods, abstaining from atheistic neglect of their cult and from excessive devotion and grovelling. The peace between the state and the gods is maintained through sacrifice and their favour called upon through offering.

Sexual virtue | For men, this is exercising restraint in the frequency and enjoyment of sexual activity, preserving their virility through sexual self-control. For women, it is virginity upon marriage, no adultery within it, sex exercised solely for reproduction or the cultivation of affection between a wife and husband. It is also to dress appropriately for one's sex, and is both a physical and mental virtue.

Trustworthiness | To be reliable and counted upon. A citizen whom another can have no good reason to fear dealing with.

Valour | A defining masculine virtue, it is courage and excellence, and the key virtue all young men pursue as the building block to their overall character.

Diarcesia has two core values. Everything else stems from these.

0. Archa is the audacity to set ideas into motion.
∞. Telus is the tenacity to see them to completion.

By the time Arkess the First Monarch succeeded in uniting his people, a consensus formed among the original Diarcesians. The cultural glue that would maintain the cooperation would hinge on these concepts. When the disputants were shown the looming threat of foreign invasion, they understood the gravity of these concepts.

Archa and telus are sufficient for them to ensure their legacy and survival. With these, they finally said: "We will endure".

MANA - The most important concept underpinning all aspects of Rehuan society is Mana which doesn't translate well into English, but loosely means 'authority' and 'prestige'. Hold your head up high, be proud, walk tall, be strong.

HONOUR - This means doing your duty, acting honestly and with integrity and living a life that would make your ancestors proud and ensure your descendants would want to follow in your footsteps.

TRADITION - Tangatarehua has fought very hard to ensure its unique cultural identity has remained mostly undiluted in the face of western colonial aggression. Thus the nation's culture attempts as much as possible to keep ancient traditions alive but within a modern context.

Among the people that would the elements of harmony (Kindness, Honesty, Laughter, Generosity, Loyalty, and Magic)

Though, we have a tripartite motto that translates to Unity, Justice, and Liberty. (Einigkeit, Recht, Freiheit)
