Feel free to start posting rosters and roleplaying! This can include responding to others; some of the most intriguing RPs come when you work with someone else. The Baptism of Fire emphasizes roleplaying--writing posts about individual matches or the tournament as a whole. This could be anything from newspaper articles about a game your team just played to your manager's halftime talks. RPing does not guarantee success, but it will increase your chances of doing well.

Rosters include the names of your players (association football has eleven players for each team playing at a time; teams usually are allowed to have 23 players on their roster), as well as any other information you'd like to include about them. That can include their positions, ages, club teams they represent, or other facts about them as individuals or your country as a whole to help your opponents roleplay.

With your roster, please include a style modifier, a number ranging from -5 to 5. This shows whether your team is more focused on attack or defense; teams with high (positive) modifiers will both score more and give up more goals, relatively speaking, while teams with very negative modifiers will tend to score and concede less. If you do not post a modifier or a roster, this will default to zero.

You should also give RP permissions to your opponents, letting them know whether, for instance, they can roleplay about injuries to your players, give your players yellow or red cards, or "godmod" (roleplay in a very unrealistic way).

For examples of information to include in rosters, you can look through the roster thread for the previous World Cup. One sample of a permissions box is:

My opponent, if they RP first, may do the following:
Choose my goalscorers Y/N
Godmod scoring events Y/N
Roleplay injuries to my players Y/N
Godmod injuries to my players Y/N
Hand out yellow cards to my players Y/N
Hand out red cards to my players Y/N
Godmod other events Y/N
where you replace Y/N with "Yes" or "No," depending. It's fine to go into more detail, too, such as "you can give my players red cards, but at most one per game."

Welcome, and best of luck!

Guidance for Football Fans in Timuria

The Department for Tourism and the Department for Recreational Activities welcome you to Timuria. This section of our tourism website has been updated to provide information for visitors to our country for the 71st edition of the Baptism of Fire, with specific advice for each host city. The host cities for matches during this tournament shall be: Demir, Uryan and Elektriklestirme, with two stadiums in Demir playing host to our guests and one stadium in each of Uryan and Elektriklestirme.

General National Information:

Arrival to Timuria:
Timuria is a large nation of ~61 million people located in the southern Atlantian Oceania, north of one of the co-hosts for this edition of the World Cup Banija. Arrival from Atlantian Oceania is a relatively simple task, with many regional airlines having routes to the capital Demir as well as to each of the 5 regional capitals. Otherwise TimHav provide flights from further afield at a reasonable subsidised rate.

We advise that while drugs are decriminalised in Timuria that you do not travel with them into the country as you may encounter difficulties in your country of origin. Additionally we do not recommend the import of alcohol or tobacco into the country due to the substances relative cheapness in the country. TimHav flights have priority for baggage claim and so we recommend for a fast exit from your airport of choice that you fly with them. Travel to Timuria is visa free for all people, with only random checks at passport control being necessary. You may travel to Timuria with a recognised national ID if you are from Atlantian Oceania or a country that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has deemed "Friendly" please check the website TimMFA.gov.tmr for more information about your specific nation.

The national currency is the Demir, which typically trades at NS$ 1.15-1.35. It is available for exchange at all border facilities, however the removal of Demirs from Timuria is strictly illegal and you are required to change any remaining Demirs back into a currency of your choice before you leave.

Local Laws and Customs of Note:
The possession, consumption and sale of all so called "narcotics" are decriminalised within Timuria, though consumption of these materials outside of designated venues or private domiciles is considered impolite. There is a public ban on smoking and injecting, those caught violating those bans face a fine of up to 500 Demirs. The age of majority in Timuria is 16, granting full rights conferred to adults in the country.

Sex work is decrminalised within Timuria, with both the sale and purchase of services of a sexual nature decriminalised. Same-sex relationships are given equal legal status to heterosexual relationships and generally the country is welcoming towards members of the LGBTQ+ community, with most visits by such people being completely trouble free. Public displays of affection are common and tolerated within Timuria, though public acts of obscenity will result in arrest. Hate crime laws are fairly punitive in Timuria, any crime motivated by prejudice towards a protected characteristic could lead to a custodial sentence of up to 3 years. All public places are required to be accessible to those with wheelchairs so access should not be a problem.

Identification is required to be carried on your person at all times, failure to produce a valid ID when prompted by a member of police will result in a fine of up to 100 Demirs.

Possession of firearms is strictly illegal outside of private domiciles or designated hunting clubs. Possession of an unauthorized firearm will lead to either a fine of up to 20,000 Demirs or a custodial sentence of up to 15 years.

Most Timurian's are friendly, kind and welcoming to foreigners, though loud and brash behaviour may not be acceptable in more rural/conservative parts of the country. In more Islamic areas the consumption of alcohol and during the day food and drink is considered impolite during the holy month of Ramadan, though recent surveys indicated that only 4% of Timurians observe Ramadan.

If bringing prescription medicine you will not be required to declare it at the border, but if you run out of/lose your prescribed medication a prescription note from a Timurian doctor is required in order to obtain the medication. General Practitioners are required to provide free service at the point of need to any person, regardless of status within Timuria and will provide the prescription note, which can be presented at any pharmacy which will provide the drugs for a small nominal fee of 1.50 Demirs.

Most Timurians primarily speak Turkish, but regional populations also speak: Azeri, Turkmen, Kazakh, Kyrgyz and Uzbek as well as other minor Turkic languages. There is a lingua franca within the nation known as "Demirce" or "Iron-speak" but that is mostly used between citizens from different linguistic backgrounds. Fluency in English, Italian and German is common, though it is not unheard of for embarrassed Timurians to point in the wrong direction when asked for directions if they do not speak the language of the person asking them.

Due to the prevalence of Folk Religions, it is not uncommon for their to be large festivals around the time of: the Summer/Winter Solstice, the beginning of Spring, The month of October or at various points year round in different localities due to the variance in deities worshiped within Timuria. It is also worth noting that Eid (known as Bayram in Timuria) is also celebrated by the general population leading to festivals.

Safety, Security and Health Information:
While almost every visit to Timuria is trouble free and the nation has an exceptionally low rate of every kind of crime, tourists have been known to be targeted by petty criminals in some parts of the country. If an attacker has a weapon and demands property, the official advice is to comply and contact emergency services either in person or via a public telephone (in the event of loss of your personal phone). Emergency services may be contacted on 555, with all emergency responders trained to speak in one of English, Italian and German. In the case of non-urgent inquires to authorities, the number is 433.

There has not been a terrorist attack on Timurian soil in recent memory, however general vigilance is advised. The nations current level of security alertness is 1, meaning there is no credible threat to the nations security at this time.

All health care is provided for free at the point of need regardless of status within Timuria or ability to pay. Health care in Timuria is of a universally high standard.

Natural disasters are unlikely to occur in Timuria though extreme weather events are known to very occasionally occur with temperatures exceeding 40 degrees Celsius recorded in a heatwave.

Transport Within Timuria:
The ownership of personal vehicles is frowned upon by the general population, but is not illegal. There are taxes that are paid upon entry to the country with a non-electric car and the prevalence of fossil fuel based refuelling points has declined significantly. Be aware that most cities do not allow personal vehicles within a certain radius of their centre and you will be required to park your vehicle.

In order to drive in Timuria you are required to have a valid license, with foreign ones able to be converted into temporary permits at special offices at the border either as you enter the country by road or at airports. If you are a citizen of another nation within Atlantian Oceania you do not need to obtain a temporary permit as your license will be valid. Car rentals are available at airports, though they are very infrequently used.

There is an extensive network of high speed public transport that connects major cities, specifically Maglev trains, intercity bus services and domestic flights. There is also an extensive network of public transport in every region of Timuria with regional bus services and local high speed trains. Within cities there are comprehensive tram networks and fleets of self-driving cars that can be accessed via the KKA app in each major city in the country that can take you to your destination. Public transport is covered by the Tasima Karti (Transport Card) that can be topped up at any shop, cash point or public transport node. For a visit of one month the recommendation is 40 Demirs be put on a card.

The Host Cities:

Demir

The capital of the country, Demir has a population estimated to be around 7.6 million people. It is notable for the amount of green space available to relax in. Public transport in the city is exceptional, as it is across the country. The city is famous for its many green spaces as well as its abundance of music venues. The cities name means "Iron" and is host to the country's parliament the Gönüllü Meclisi (The Volunteers Assembly). Each team who plays in the city will have access to state of the art training facilities provided by the Football Federation, each with their own lodgings that can be adapted (within legal limits) to the tastes and needs of the teams that reside here during the tournament.

Stadiums:

Dev Halk Stadium, Capacity: 30,000. Transport available via number 10a bus. Hosting Group E.
Image

Genel Sendika Stadium, Capacity: 30,000. Transport available via tram, centre line. Hosting Group H.
Image

Elektriklestirme

A city of around 3.8 million, Elektriklestirme is named for the electrification of the nation. It is where most of the power generation in the country occurs and has one of the largest solar farms in the multiverse, the city also plays host to the largest shopping centre in the country. Transport to the city is possible for foreigners via a high speed local train service from Demir, bus services or by personal vehicle. Due to the city's slightly smaller size and lack of accessibility facilities here are of a marginally more standardised style, with little in the way of adaptations available to visiting teams.

Stadium:

Halkın Güneş Çiftliği Stadium, Capacity: 27,000. Transport available via tram. Hosting Group F.
Image

Uryan

The famous mining city has a population of 5.3 million. Foreigners may access the city via Madenci International Airport which serves the city as the regional capital. Most famous for its abundant natural resources, the city has undergone a green revolution in recent years as the country has almost completely phased out fossil fuel usage. The city is dotted with many monuments commemorating the now no longer operating mines in the city. The teams hosted here will have access to lodgings that are able to be modified within limits and high quality facilities

Stadium:

Madenci Stadium, Capacity: 27,000. Transport via bus route 33. Hosting Group G.

Quick Preview

While never before seen internationally, the Appy Hillbillies as they are known could do some damage. Lead by what are arguably the three greatest players of any generation of Appy Soccer fans, the holy trinity as they have become to be known are looking to lead the Hillbillies to glory in their first tournament. Bubba is probably the most well known of the three and recently he was signed to a deal with Capital FC in Xanneria to replace club legend Glenn Hailey. Cleetus will look to use his strong sniping attacks to confuse goalies with goalies that have long range spin. Steel City Union star William Robert looks to play the attacker in this series. a capable scoring threat, "Billy Bob" as his fans call him can put quite the touch on the ball. The classic Two Offensive / Two Defensive Midfield tactic will once again rear itself in Hillbilly football. Lady footballer Tiffany Drew will hold down the right side. She becomes the first girl to stat for the Hillbillies as she has proven herself quite a bit in the Mushroom Kingdom Super Strikers League scoring 10 goals in 32 games last season. Bryan pearson of lowlander team Charlotte 1949 will play opposite on the Offensive midfield. For the defensive midfield, Bobby Wayne Fuller, a player known for elevating his small market team Johnson City to the upper echelon of Appy Soccer. Macho Man Hawkins is well... one of the most cocksure players in the game. As for defense, Clayton Farmer, the high flying ginger will take Devin Winecroft (Brother of U18 player Todd Winecroft), and Garett Washburn with him on the defense. And if all else fails the goalie tandem of Calvin Throckmorton and "Jello" Collins will be interchangeable in net!

My opponent, if they RP first, may do the following:
Choose my goalscorers Y/N
Godmod scoring events Y/N
Roleplay injuries to my players Y/N
Godmod injuries to my players Y/N
Hand out yellow cards to my players Y/N
Hand out red cards to my players Y/N
Godmod other events Y/N

Fujai (fu:'jaɪ, foo-yEYE) is a small island nation of just over 6 million residents, located north of the Polarii continent in The West Pacific. While it has a long history of domestic football, it never has been a substantial player on the international scale. Until now, that is. The recent Independents' Cup 8 was Fujai's first international football competition, where the Landslag made it to the Round of 16 before being knocked by Drawkland out in a high pitched match ending 5-4 AET. In the short time since then, the team has been resting, practicing, and in some cases entering politics?

The Landslag is made up of the finest players in Fujai, though few would be considered of truly international quality. It is sponsored by the Fotbollseksjon of Fujansk Idrottsforbund (Fujansk Sports Union) through the Kulturministerjon (Ministry of Culture). Most Landslag players come from Fujai's top league, Fyrstserien, though a few come from the second division, Annarserien, and one comes from a university team. While Fujansk clubs are more equal in skill than the average league, the largest teams with the best players tend to be Solbakken IL and Bruland IF from the capital of Keiserholde, Trondsnes FF from Strafsund, and Almoren IL from Almoren in the north.

Translator's note: Landslaget translates to "The National Team," while Landslag translates to "National Team. In the common tongue, one would say "the Landslag did well" or "Landslaget did well."

Poafmer Times Sports Special Edition 1 - Our Team

Postby PotatoFarmers » Thu Nov 21, 2019 12:22 am

All you need to know about the team
Special Edition Report written by the Poafmer Times Sports Team
Poafmersia's national head coach Adnan Suliaha has confirmed the national team squad of 23 players that will be playing in Poafmersia's first international football tournament, at the Baptism of Fire (BoF) 71. Here, we present the information about the 23-player sqaud and give our take on the players selected for the national team, as well as more information about Adnan Suliaha, the head coach, especially for the first timers who are following football for the first time.

Goalkeepers
#1 Sandi Jaliaha, 24, Fiskadaha FC (I) - Male [GK]
A proud graduate of the capital team's academy, Jaliaha's meteroic rise to become their club's number 1 goalkeeper had not gone unnoticed. His play-reading abilities have helped him to stop a number of goals and put out exellent long balls to help the outfield players turn defence into offence.
#12 Jabik Henderon, 34, Bikarish (I) - Male [GK]
"Papa Jabik", as he is called, is the vice-captain of one of Poafmersia's top tier clubs, Bikarish. As the former captain of the club, he was instrumental in Bikarish's successful club campaiigns over the years. Together with fellow players Hoboson and Rikachz, he was a proud member of the Cup-winning team (6th Champions Cup) that conceded only 3 goals on their way to winning the trophy. A 3-time player of the year winner, he famously make 16 brilliant saves in the last season to deny Dury FC, a club with strong attacking firepower, a single goal in the Cup match against them. He is also well known for the encouragement he gives his fellow players on and off the field.
#23 Dikash Johikas, 28, Mancodas Athletic FC (I) - Male [GK]
The famous King of Penalties is another of the goalkeepers selected fo this campaign. With over 55% of penalties saved, and diving in the correct direction another 28% of the time, he has the record of never losing a penalty shootout for his club. (We shall find out if he can maintain the record in the international arena)

Defenders
#2 Alex Pickford, 27, Mancodas City (I) - Male [LB]
#3 Denise Pickford, 27, Mancodas Cty (I) - Female [RB]
The Pickford twins is one of two sibling pairs in the team. The twins found themselves as natural defenders, with their agressive ball winning strategies and their ability to clear balls away in a quick and efficient manner.Denise has high stamina and is willing to press forward to irritate the opponents. Alex, on the other hand, is more passive and often chooses to stay back and wait for the opponent players to come. At 1.78m and 1.75m respectively, both Alex and Denise have the aerial reach too. With their agressive ball-winning techniques, they often find themselves with yellow cards in the earlier stages of their career. However, they have since became more careful and now makes more skillfull tackles as compared to before.
#4 Danzik Hoboson, 29, Bikarish (I) - Male [CB]
#5 Pasits Rikachz, 28, Biikarish (I) - Male [CB]
The best defensive partnership in club football comes together again to shore up the defence of the national team. In a country where offence is the byword, the two of them has succesfully led Bikarish to create one of the best defences in Poafmersia. Both players are coming back from an injury which they picked up during the 7th Champions Cup (a local football competition). While captain Hoboson has recovered and is likely to start in the first match, Rikachz would likely be fully fit only by Matchday 2.
#13 Graciia Warisian, 25, Real Didari (I) - Male [LB]
#14 Timothy Gawson, 25, Sochra Mudra FC (I) - Male [RB]
#15 Alex Hoboson, 23, Dury FC (I) - Male [CB]
#16 Konile Trasal, 24, Holhot United (I) - Male [CB]
The other 4 defenders chosen are relatively younger players, as the head coach chose to pick 4 young player to give them some experience. Considering the leaky defences we saw in the 7th Champions Cup, it may not be a surprise as such. Alex Hoboson is the player to watch, having shone during the play-offs of the Developmental League.

Midfielders
#6 Dargis Walshor, 22, Sarim Potatoes U23s (DL1) - Male [LM]
Walshor is a very fast lad who has shown the necssary pace required to compete at the senior level. His work attitude during the Developmental League Season caught the eye of the national tem coaches, and earned him a call up ahead of more experienced players.
#8 Jessie Mchargarita, 30, Holhot United (I) - Female [RM]
The only other female in the team apart from Denise Pickford, her performance definitely caught the eye of the national team coaches. Being able to survive in a physically demanding league system is not easy for many male players at her age, but as a female, she manages to do very well. Her ball control techniques and creativity makes her one of the rare shining female players in Poafmersia, and her call up is definitely well deserved.
#10 Gisiik Moonar, 23, Fiskadaha FC (I) - Male [ACM/CM]
Gisiik's contribution to his club as a central midfielder has made many people like him. He is very good at finding chances and at the senior level, his performance has made him a hot transfer target for many clubs.. As another proud academy graduate, Moonar has chosen to serve his hometown club, and many fellow players have talked about the huge contribution he made to a club that has not seen a good creative midfielder for very log.
# 19 Danill Trasa, 30, Bikarish (I) - Male [RM]
The older brother of Konide, the centre back, Danille is one of the more senior players in this relatively younger squad. He stands out in the team as he is seen as a more defensive minded midfielder as compared to Jessie. He often stays back to help out with the defense as other players press forward. His interaction with first choice rightback Denise will be interesting, as Denise is a more forward-looking player while Danill is a defensive player.
#17 Goon Figsh, 28, Fiskadaha FC (I) - Male [DCM/CM]
Gisiik's midfield partner in thec lub is also part of this team, and he is the more standard holding midfielder.
#18 Matthew Tikriise, 25, Holhot United (I) - Male [LM]
Long ball specialist as he loves to pump balls forward and take corners for the team. His inability to score goals is his main weakness, but otherwise he is a good midfielder.

Strikers
#7 Joel Haodao, 23, Sarim Potatoes FC (I) - Male [LW/CF]
#11 Pete Caris, 24, Mancodas City (I) - Male [RW/CF]
#9 Shakira Handris, 27, Dalaris FC (I) - Male [CF]
The first choices are here for different reasons. Joel's fast pace and ability to run forward with the ball got him selected. Shakira's potency in front of goal, as the 3-time Golden Boot Winner nationwide, makes him a very good #9. Pete Caris' crossing abilities is unrivaled, and his height at 1.92m makes him good at aerial duels. With the three very different players coming together for the first time, who knows what sparks they will create?
#21 Alexri Timson, 34, Trimidau Rukiya (I) - Male [LW/RW]
#20 Santik Manson, 34, FC United of Mancodas (II) - Male [CF/ACM]
#22 Nasir Hansir, 35, Sochra Mudra FC (I) - Male [RW/RM]
The choice of 3 veterans as backups was an interesting move, considering Poafmersia has many other good contenders for the striker position. What surprised many was the choice of Santik, as he will be playing for a second tier club (though it is unfair as their city has too many good teams that qualified for tier 1 ahead of them during the league placement matches). These players would provide the experience in the attacking department.

Head Coach
Adnan Suliaha, 49
A former player himself, he was the person who campaigned for the league system reformation and the creation of a national team. During his time as a player, he was a creative midfielder, and holds the record for the most assists in his club, Dury FC. His attacking mentality reflects the general football sentiment in Poafmersia, as the country's football league clubs are well known for generating goal scorers but little defenders.

Playing Style
Offence is the team's strength, something which is not surprising. The choice of many players that are young and have good pace also suggests that the team is likely to be looking towards making counter-attacks and out run their opponents. The head coach has however chosen a number of defensive-oriented players, therefore suggesting that they may be more balanced in terms of playing style. [OOC: Which is why we are a +2 and not like +4/5]

TROLLEBORG NATIONAL TEAM

Many years ago Trolleborg ceased to be interested in affairs abroad, resign from the World Assembly and almost cease to make himself seen in the world. But now our national leader propose: “Let’s open the door slightly and see what happens!”. Why not begin with a sport, when opportunity rose right now?

Trolleborg is a huge country having reason to be proud, because it’s regularly receives high marks in various ratings that assess the quality of life and economic situation. It will be interesting to see how this "opening the door to the outside world" will works if works at all.

Image

Football is a prime sport for a country, with a league having ended 127th season right now, albeit a big chunks of the Republic’s population tend to play cricket (southeast), basketball (northwest) and concentrate on martial arts of every sort (far north). There was a healthy decentralization of soccer in the country, there was no need for a serious monies to build a winning team, and most of the teams accept raising local youngsters as a main way to success. With a strong local teams everywhere, two teams from economical and political hub of the nation, i.e. Trolleborg City, win one of three tournaments at best.

Usually teams in Trolleborg employ pay-as-you-play performance-based system of wages. This is apart from the one team, that historically paid to the players accordingly to complex set of rules, taking into account things like a social stature, role on the field and so on. Many clubs prefer to give a voice in this regard to fans. Fans, from their side, expect a strong teamwork, so players has an incentive play as good as only can and not concentrate on the self-promotion.

There was a possibility to play abroad, but due to the strong local affinities and forementioned isolationism not many players taking this way.

National psyche (and forementioned considerations) tell players to put everything even if odds are heavily against, so almost every match played with high determination. Highly laudable was an example of player, who handball on the line kicking ball out of the empty net, when score was 0-3 with one minute to play, receiving a red card and penalty, but also a possibility to not having fourth goal (in the case opponent’s penalty taker missed the net, albeit it is not known are he does this deliberately).

NATIONAL TEAM

Image

U18 team is already try water on the U18 World Championship and put decent, altought not brilliant, performance. Seniors, as a result, already have a bar set. Let’s see how our team fare in this competition.

COACH
There was a voices to give a reins to the some foreign coach with a lot of experience in the international competitions and some silverware on his desk, but at the end it was decided to employ someone from our country, so we can attribute every success or failure to ourselves and measure it accordingly.
In the democratic traditions of the Republic, fans also given a voice in the selections process, 30 percent of votes. Moreover, one of the fans, who was found most knowledgeable and charismatic, was after serious selection process (again with a strong input from the fans) given a place in the training staff with a view to see things with a fresh look and kept ordinary people well informed.

After deliberations selection was made from the six top candidates. So there he was –
Morten TROGHIL - 52 at the time, he was a strong favourite from the start, since he have a record of building teams at the different places, make them play attractive fast football and won numerous competitions – in his fifteen-years coaching career he capture five championships with a two different teams and five cups with three different teams. Time tell us, how he will fare at the international soccer.

PLAYERS
As no one sure what this all will be at the end, and are here will be next opportunity to play, team was staffed by top possible players without looking to their age.

Goalkeepers
Tomas Kot Kotsson (27) – who will probably play as number one at the tournament. Flexible and agile, quick-thinking, reading game perfectly and instill a lot of confidence in his defenders.
Marius Vrommen (28) – not the most talented of the goalkeepers in the long history of our league, but he is extremely reliable at both line and in the field, and known as an extremely cold-blooded even in the most challenging circumstances.
Marten Windass (32) – there was a two strong contenders for the place of third keeper and lively debates are held, which one will be better in the case both first-choice keepers fail everything – seasoned veteran or young star – and place was given to first one. In the time, he was like a Kot Kotsson, and albeit now he wasn’t so fresh and fast as in his heyday, but he was extremely experienced and knows many secrets of goalkeeper trade.

Defenders
Nikolaas Laste (28) – He was reliable left back, who has a tendency going forward, but in the recent years prefer to concentrate on his defensive duties, which he does very successfully.
Kasper Wolters (24) – One of the team brightest stars, he is right back by default, but he is very strong, very fast, have a very good shot and even better crossing skill. Having all this, he very often make a lighting runs to the opposition box and sometime substitute right midfielder.
Torgeir Dushegub (29) – Known as a Column, this tall and strong player usually dominates a box both in the air and at the grass. Often he is seen in the opposition box, when corner is played. Being always calm and confidence, he projected aura of them around.
Jowan Tro (27) – Intelligent player, good in both defending and starting phase of the attack, with a strong header skills he can play both in the center and on the left side.
Gerald Joos (33) – Despite playing whole his career for a one team, he is highly respected by the whole Trolleborg football world, known for his reliability. Excellent specialist in man-marking.
Aien Troger (26) – He is fast, strongly build and extremely good in tackling. It’s very challenging to move into the box past him. Probably he will go into pages of history as one of the most brightest defenders of our championship.
Heiko Aldekamp (25) – Useful addition to the team, can play both right and left defender, preferably first one, moving fast and tackling hard.
Morten Levenkrans (30) – full left back in the beginning of his career, he than move to the center, having considered almost impassable in both positions. Albeit right now not the fastest man on the field, he is very good man-marker, having excellent header and can be very useful when attacks began.

Midfielders
Rolf Valgren (28) – Quick-thinking, with a perfect understanding of game, seeing everyone and everything in the field, and with brilliant passing skills, this man can bring ball everywhere he wants. It is very possible, that he will be one of the greatest midfielders in the history of Trolleborg, have he not lacking some technique and speed. But he’s not lacking determination and tackle aggressively and successfully when not having the ball.
Ewood Magni (25) – Left midfielder. He is from emigrants, having been, as a result, a differently build than most of the Trolleborgians, and known for his unusual and very elegant technique. In the young age he was known for a lack of understanding what to do with a ball apart from the dribbling out everyone on the way, but now he has a some discipline instilled, and was very useful team player.
Joris Koolen (29) – tough defensive midfielder, more than competent tackler, albeit slower when creating opportunities for forwards, with a good strong shot from the long distance, useful with a free kicks, he is well-known for his superstitions. Some people can find it laughable, but, nevertheless, his teams have unusually high percent of wins when he is on the field.
Finn Finnsnes (27) – strong right midfield\right winger, swift, smart, good dribbler and excelled in set-pieces. He is only one in the whole selected team to play abroad, having spend three seasons at the top team in one of the regional strongest championship and won one bronze and one silver medal. But constantly changing coaches, each with own understanding what to do on the field, pressure of crowd due to the team instability when people expect unbroken strings of victories and adverse climatic conditions move him back at Trolleborg.
Morten Troll (24) – he is a brightest star of under 25 in the whole country. Genius of game, with a wonderful dribbling, beautiful technique, excellent pass and extremely good shot, he won many games for his local team single-handedly, but also a great team player. Highly probably, he will be a player of generation, and very probably, best player Trolleborg ever had.
Alexander Bornitse Zach “Zhita” (25) – originated from the far-flung north part of the country, not well-known for a excellent players, he was an idol for his compatriots and find a place in the hearts of other fans. Almost devoid of what was known as classical football tecnique, have rather unusual style of play and often creates goal opportunities from nowhere. Having familiar to play everywhere near the box, probably, in the circumstances, he will be a joker in the Troghil’s hand near the end of the game.
Ruud Kolding (27) - left midfielder, covering lot of ground with his unbeliveable stamina, can press forwards or go back as team need
Brutil Mogrin (27) – can play either in the center or as a right midfielder, with a nerves of steel and cold mind he will, probably, backup for a one of attacking players.

Forwards
Stuart Kerr (29) – best sniper of the last two championship, quick, brave, skillful, and having ability shot from everywhere in the box right despite defenders best efforts.
Torfinn Skaloed (27) – intelligent forward as it was, he can move very quickly, constantly ahead of the defenders, successfully escapes from markers, and in case of need he often going back and successfully acquire ball here to begin attacks.
Tom Gulbranden (28) – build like a very tall stone wall, he easily can tramp defenders if he wish to do so, but his strong leg shot, without any preparation at all, give him other opportunity to have a points of popularity with fans. It is looked impossible, that a man of such a stature can bring himself in the air at all, but nevertheless he is – strongly jumping and struck the ball by the head with deadly precision.
Kay Tjeerd (24) – fox-in-the-box as he is, fast and lucky, good substitution to the Skaloed if something will be wrong with him. His goal to game ratio is one of the best in the league’s history

Mass-media
Mass-media, of course, will publish abundance of materiel, covering sport events itself, but also about everything from the food in the host countries to the most vivid fan vestments.

TTV will give a TV coverage of BoF events, and two newspapers send their journalists.

Image

"Trolleborg Aften" is a solid mainstream newspaper

Image

And "Goool!" sports magazine

Image

“Leesse” is a sensationalist newspaper, which give a place for a thoughts of fan’s representative in the team.

Image

If time allowed, I will also publish some opinions from the local social network T-Friends

Fans

And last, but surely not least there was our fans. It’s all for them, at the end. After making themselves a name at the U18 Championship, they are relocated to the BoF with a clear intention to continue their endeavours like marching with songs, waving flags, putting cultural performances and involve everyone around in all of this. We will give out some Trolleborg memorabilia like a ribbons, buttons, scarves and so on. As already become tradition, we ask host country to allow a parade of fans with a live music before each game and a places for series of exhibitions devoted to gastronomy, culture and national traditions of our country. Also we ask allocate us some space in the hosting cities to make an exhibition of our cultural heritage and traditions with some traditional sport contests for a local citizens.

Again, as tradition dictate, It’s planned to give a memorabilia of Trolleborg to the opposite team fans and put a special prize for a best and most imaginative costume in their lines.

Altought no one sure, how things will be when whistle will blow at the end of the first match, it is widely understood that our team will play fast attacking football with a strong teamwork and apply pressing whatever on the field when ball is not on our side. The team is highly motivated, and prepare to fight and win, or at least to play as good as only can, or at the very least give everything trying to catch up when there was a 1-5 with a two minutes to go.

I will put my line-up, tactics and some related roleplay later.

Welcome to Zwangzug! We look forward to welcoming your teams and fans. Click for giant map!

-Things to know: Zwangzug is a large and diverse nation with lots of silly chess allusions. (In more recent times we have branched out and now feature allusions to other board games.) Currently, our economy is under the control of well-intentioned but questionably-competent robots. Probably the easiest thing for foreigners is to get a temporary "ID card" and link that to a debit account; this will help you pay for groceries, restaurants, etc.

There are no automobiles allowed in the country, but a very extensive network of inter- and intra-city train transit will be able to get you to the stadium on time (hopefully). Many drugs popular in other countries are prohibited also, however, if you claim a religious exemption for their use, you can probably get away with a lot!

Group A (West)

Spenson: Its vast suburbs were the home of the space program after the modern country was created (which was a relatively recent event--because of this, there isn't a strong sense of "national" identity beyond sports). The home stadium is the Stelladome, an older structure but with lots of modern screens. (Technically, it is located in the nearby suburb of Fulpog, but that's still part of the Spenson area.) Fans will be curious as to how capitalism, and space travel, work in other countries. Their favorite board game is Hearts.

Castanya vs. Mitra & Soma (MD1/4)
Castanya vs. Greater Cebu (MD2/5)

Guariday: this is located in the deep southwest, amid a sprawling temperate rainforest. Look for fans in treehouses being smug about the importance of environmentalism. They also love to cheer talented defenders and goalkeepers. The home stadium is Janaki Gardens. Their favorite board game is Sheriff of Nottingham.

Greater Cebu vs. Five Cities (MD1/4)
Greater Cebu vs. Mitra & Sonya (MD3/6)

Twineur: somewhat of a college town. Fans have a good sense of humor, but look down on time-wasters. The home stadium is the Bug House (home of the Bugs). Their favorite board game is Fuse.

Mitra & Soma vs. Five Cities (MD2/5)
Five Cities vs. Castanya (MD3/6)

Group B (Central)

Wayr Stadium: Take the monorail from Outrive, in the middle of the Rackham Range, until you get to this mountainous stadium. Despite the lack of urban area, this was the national team's main home for many years. If you stare even farther up the mountains you can make out their old practice facility from back in the "thirties" of the World Cup.

Trolleborg vs. Casta Marina (MD1/4)
Trolleborg vs. North Eastern Asia (2/5)

The FTC: For silly musical-related reasons (don't ask), Zwangzug's two largest cities grew next to each other. The west side is traditionally known as "Merano"; fans are snooty and consider themselves cultured. The east side is traditionally known as "Bangkok"; fans are prone to rioting and making incomprehensible math puns. However, it's more common these days to just refer to the entire area as "the FTC" ("fraternal twin cities"). Their favorite board game is Mafia/Werewolf.

West stadium: Eglantine Park
North Eastern Asia vs. Aimena (MD1/4)
North Eastern Asia vs. Casta Marina (MD3/6)

East stadium: Palloci Pagoda Park
Casta Marina vs. North Eastern Asia (MD2/5)
Aimena vs. Trolleborg (MD3/6)

Group C (Northeast)

Zwischen: the nation's capital. Visitor attractions include the "Ziggurat," the former government headquarters and occasional scene of inter-parliament strife. Fans love all-out attack but can get overly concerned about player injuries. Their home stadium is ZS^3 ("Zwischen Soccer-Specific Stadium," although most fans call it "football," they just liked the acronym). Their favorite board game is The Resistance.

Ziwana vs. Fujai (MD1/4)
Ziwana vs. Welzat (MD2/5)

Arlington: tends to be cold, there are lots of skyways to help pedestrians (and everyone is a pedestrian) stay warm. Their fans are said to be the most "averagely-Zwangzugian." They value preserving the past and archiving history, but not being unbearable old fogeys about it, and will be excited to see the new teams too. Their home stadium is called City Athletic Venue, which is also very old and very boringly-named. Their favorite board game is Pandemic.

Welzat vs. Volinovia (MD1/4)
Welzat vs. Fujai (MD3/6)

Trink: full of diverse but often easily aggrieved fans; they can be quick to see themselves as victims and complain about how their ancestors were driven from their homeland as refugees generations ago. (Although everybody's ancestors came here from somewhere else, so they're not really special.) Their home stadium is Kyogijo Concord. Their favorite board game is Hanabi.

Fujai vs. Volinovia (MD2/5)
Volinovia vs. Ziwana (MD3/6)

Group D (Southeast)

Bassabook: somewhat of a more socially- and religiously-conservative area than the country as a whole. There's a famous fountain in a downtown plaza that's a fun tourist sight. Fans tend to enjoy singing complicated chants along with the matches. Their home stadium is Pacific Field. Their favorite board game is Bananagrams.

Barfleur vs. ZSeparatists (MD1/4)
Barfluer vs. Barsland (MD2/5)

Forbridge: located near the Deep Blue Lake. This is the home of the AIU (Artificial Intelligence University) which produces many robots, economic and otherwise. Legend has it that Zwangzug's ational football team began here, after one student hit another in the head with a Frisbee and they decided they needed better sports. This was also the headquarters of the original football association until it was bulldozed to put in a new train station. The stadium is called the Eagles Club; there's not a professional team based there, but the national team got the right to build a stadium of that name after winning the "Eagles' Cup" tournament.

Barsland vs. Poafmersia (MD1/4)
Barsland vs. ZSeparatists (MD3/6)

Keppal City: not located in the nearby Keppal district, because our government is annoying like that. Fans like to grumble about how annoying like that the government is. The stadium is called Ayathen Arena, and is said to be "cursed"--not that the local professional team is bad (they're very good at the moment, actually!), but a lot of little things can go wrong during your visit there, so look out. Their favorite board game is 1313 Dead End Drive.

ZSeparatists vs. Poafmersia (MD2/5)
Poafmersia vs. Barfleur (MD3/6)

We have a lot more information in our factbook: see here for these and other cities, and feel free to poke around here if you're bored. Otherwise, enjoy your stay!

DU-UKH, UUK – Keiserholde, Fujai — Hej folks, Berit here coming to you from DU-UKH, Den Blå Duken, UiKeiserholde's officially unofficial student radio. Today's Idrottsminutt [Sports Minute] brings back Landslag news!! After some time recuperating after the Independents' Cup, the Landslag is ready for the aptly named Baptism of Fire.

Now towards the end of IAC 8, as I'm sure you know, a touch of a political crisis rocked the nation. For those who don't, a vote-rigging scandal at the highest level was uncovered, causing dozens of resignations, the largest protests in nearly forty years, and new elections. After seeing the corruption from afar and returning to see it up close, Anton Felland, center back for the Landslag and Trondsnes FF, decided to run for office in the new elections for Syndicpartiet. Thankfully they have some breathing room, since the new election won't occur until after the Baptism of Fire.

Now that that's out of the way, on to the match! We've been sorted into Group C of the BoF along with Ziwana, Volinovia, and Welzat. Our group is lucky enough to be hosted around the capital region in northeast Zwangzug, so there'll be plenty of opportunity for players and fans alike to do some sightseeing! Our first game is against Ziwana, a large nation located far away in the Melayu Archipelago. We haven't received word if their Inkosikazi will be in attendance, but since our Monarch will be, it's likely that others received the invite too. The match itself looks pretty even, with the Ziwani team playing a bit more defensively than the Landslag—Salberg and Hellem will have their hands full trying to deal with that defense, I imagine.

Since so little has been translated into Fujansk about the Ziwani team, we're unable to provide much more information, but I promise you our student reporter on the scene will have something for us soon. See you at the next Idrottsminutt!

TROLLEBORG vs. CASTA MARINA

Image

Trolleborg fans, as customary for us, marching, singing, drumming and waving flag in the city center, marching from the exhibition of Trolleborg cultural traditions right to the monorail. After transporting themselves to the stadium, fans make a warm up and roll-call and continue to their stand.

When teams arrived on the field, giant Trolleborg flag was unfurled over whole sea of green shirts in our corner of stadium. After passionately singing their anthem, fans standing attentively to the Casa Marine one and then begin thunderously chant, urging the team to show all that it is capable of. Millions of people back in Trolleborg sitting around TV sets holding their breaths.
All is ready to the starting whistle.

Trolleborg coach Morten Troghil fielded following (rather predictable) line-up in his first match:

A History Of Galar

Part I: The Gigalith Era
Galarian mythology holds that two ancient beings known as the Paragons are locked in an eternal battle in the heavens. When blood from their wounds descended into the earthen realms it solidified and formed into the archipelago that is now Galar.
What can be said for certain is that the lands that are now Galar have been inhabited by humans for at least 30,000 years. The shallow seas separating Galar from the mainland allowed people to first settle on the terrain, before the sea levels eventually rose and covered the landbridge. Weather or not these people are the ancestors of present day Galarian remain a mystery. It is generally agreed by archaeologists that Galar was settled by waves of people coming from the western continent and that this migration likely occurred over a very long period of time.
The earliest period of neolithic culture occurred alongside a warming of the region’s climate, reaching peak temperatures around 8000 years ago. This phenomenon led to rising sea levels which cut off any links to the mainland. At the same time the local waters started producing more abundant species of fish and shell fish. New types of forest took root, sprang up and thrived. These natural developments in the environments set the stage for the early Gigalith period. Galar’s earliest pottery – belonging to the Gigalith culture – has been dated around this time, possibly some of the oldest in the world, some experts say.
The early Gigalith people were mostly costal-living, food-gathering nomads. Their dietary reliance was on fish, shellfish and sea mammals. They also hunted deer and wild pig as indicated by recent discoveries of stone blade tools. Grinding stones, storage jars and other artefacts also hints at a much more intense involvement with plant cultivation.
The late Gigalith period is marked by an increase in costal fishing among villagers living along the shoreline. It was a time of significant cultural transition. It was ushered in around 2300 years ago by people who migrated from the rice and corn growing mainland to Galar’s southern shores. In a brief six century period, Galar was transformed from a land of nomadic hunting and gathering communitys into the more sedentary pattern of settled farming villages. Tightly knit, autonomous rice and corn farming settlements sprang up and spread so rapidly that by 2000 years ago settlements were found in most parts of the country except the colder northern regions.

In a land where wealth lay five feet below the ground, it was a curious thing to feel despair in the air in mid-summer. Things were better than ever, on paper at least. The national output continued to grow, the GDP was exploding through the stratosphere, and best of all, the Castanyan national football team was about to make their long anticipated international debut in the upcoming Baptism of Fire and subsequent World Cup. All of these were good things, or were supposed to be. So why is it then that he was standing in the middle of a thousand-plus of his fellow banana plantation workers?

What had happened for them to deserve this?

Arnesco DiVilla wiped the sweat forming on his brow, squinting into the sun past a throng of people to hear the words of change on the wind. A man dressed in corduroy knee-length pants with high boots and a simple, white and blue striped cotton shirt was speaking with much gusto, his hands slicing through the air, his fist slamming into his palm with the force of a thousand bombs as he reached a particularly passionate point in his demonstration. Straining his ears though he was, Arnseco only managed to decipher a few words above the wind and chattering of a thousand burned faces around him.

Camaraderie. Oppression. Decency. Equality.

He didn’t need to hear the entire speech, those words alone were enough to ignite the fire in his heart, an ember of resentment that had been slowly burning and consuming him since he was first thrown into the despair of the Castanyan work life at the age of 13. He started to cheer along, not so much a particular word so much as an announcement of his support to that which was being said. He started to cough, bent over double with a pain in his lunges. Catching his breath, Arnesco stood up and wiped his mouth.

Blood.

The first time he coughed crimson, he remembered feeling unsurprised. That’s what he got for working in the mines when he was younger, at least his time as an indentured servent in the plantation farming bananas for the past decade didn’t include any choking clouds of dust. Hot as hell though.

“ALL WE WANT IS A CHANCE TO LIVE! ALL WE WANT IS FOOD ON OUR TABLE! ALL WE WANT IS TO WORK OUR SHARE!” Chanted the workers.

All they wanted was a shot at life, but instead the workers of Unity Fruit Company suffered every single day on the plantations, baking and wasting away under the burning sun. What is their purpose? To harvest bananas.

Nothing more, nothing less.

That’s why the strike had been driving on for nearly a month, a time of length nearly unheard of. Perhaps it was because the UFC had been experimenting with mechanization in their absence, perhaps it was because the soldiers took joy in eating ripe fruit all day and throwing stones at the strikers for amusement. But they were determined. They couldn’t achieve much, but they suffered for those who would follow. Their ceiling would be their children’s floor, that was the goal.

Seven simple ‘demands.’ Seven requests for basic decency.

The establishment of a liveable weekly wage.
The creation of hygienic dormitories and 6 day work weeks
Compensation for work accidents
Mandatory collective worker’s insurance
Stop the process of automation and the use of subcontractors and foreign slaves
Increase in daily pay for workers who earned less than $100 in a month
The total abolition of payment through coupons rather than money

Or at least that was how it started. Now there were all manner of radical liberals, Socialist and Communist party members, anarchists goading the strikers to more violent methods, the movement had taken on a different edge. The last Banijan Regional Transit Corporation train had left two weeks ago and not returned; all present could feel the gathering clouds.

There were several parties springing up with good deals of support. The Socialist and Communist parties seemed to be quite popular, while more mild forms of democratic reform such as the Social Democrats or the Conservative People’s Party failed to hit on the most important demand of the people; immediate and total reform, none of this incrementalist ‘some progress is progress’ bullshit. The anarchists were quite popular as well, and indeed many of their members were both starting to incite louder and more public displays of revolution, while also starting to disappear in the middle of the night. The making of these martyrs was a poor move by the State; citizens complaining was one thing, citizens complaining and the fledgling political figures they support go missing is an entirely different matter, especially when dealing with a volatile group like the anarchists. Doing so when the entire nation, rich or poor or poorer, were being swept with nationalistic pride thanks to the imminent Baptism of Fire and World Cup was just silly. The pieces were slowly coming together. There hadn’t been any riots or political violence or anything to that effect, just the demonstrations. Sometimes those went well, sometimes not so well. Arnesco had heard talk of demonstration being put down by force in the North, whispers of soldiers firing indiscriminately into a crowd of workers asking for food and medicine, armored vehicles crushing and grinding the fallen into a pulp to be scraped off the streets. Nothing more could be discerned about that situation, no information was ever made public and the items in the news were curated by the State to paint a rosy picture. He had heard a second of coverage when one of his neighbors, operating in the deadest of hours between night in morning, managed to arrange two makeshift antennas at just the right angle to pick up on a news broadcast from some nearby nation in Atlantian Oceania; Arnesco didn’t know the name of the country, he only knew Castanya as his birth land, Eshan as the giant, and Banija for being his employer through the Regional Transit Corporation. He heard whispers of elves, a state of Equestrians, a nation clad in royal purple, but all of these were simply stories to him.

The tipping point was inching closer, things were beginning to fall apart, the center could not hold for much longer. The people were fed up, decades of wealth going entirely to the richest of the rich, those who make a living simply by transferring electronic money between nations, while the common folk suffered with no aid.

They simply wanted a chance. Arnesco remembered the day he first heard of a concept known as healthcare. The fact that no matter how poor you were, you could receive treatment for illness was simply inconceivable. For those like him, a cough was usually a death sentence, either it killed you or put you out of work, which would see you disposed of by The Seepers. Healthcare. What a thing. He had heard about it in a whisper one day at work from a friend. DeVila pretended not to have heard, they were listening. Always listening, peering, salivating. His friend, Rene, kept going on about how they could have it if they just stood up, but this time it wasn’t the two of them who heard. Rene wasn’t there the next day, or the day after that, or the day after that.

The military regiment had showed up as quickly as the protestors did, sent in from the capital. The local garrison lead by Colonel Aureliano Buendía hadn’t been called to arms, too many of the soldiers were related to the striking workers. Roughly 3000 soldiers by the strikers estimates. Two to one odds. Add in the military’s weaponry and the total lack of any form of protection for the strikers, and it was clear this was only ever going to play out in single way.

Lost in his thoughts, Arnesco hadn’t noticed the rising voices around him; he became aware of spit flying from the mouths of those next to him as the formerly peaceful demonstration started to devolve into something else. A rising chorus of ‘fuck this’ and ‘down with that’ started echoing thruogh the strikers., applause and murmors turned to chants, chants to yelling, and yelling could only lead to protest. Protest would lead to death, especially considering the mounting financial cost to Unity Fruit Corporation. It was astounding that the strike had been allowed to go on as long as it had.

Arnesco started to push back through the crowd, his lungs hurt, his stomach growled with a dull pain he had been living with all his life, he simply wanted to go home and dream of being sucked off into space during the cold night. Maybe Maria would be awake by the time he had walked home, illness had befallen her and her hours responsive were rare.

As he pushed his way back through the ever-growing crowd, Arnesco felt a shiver go through the air, the change of a season. So lost in thought he had been, that DeVilla hadn’t heard the rising voices, the discontented yells turning to angry screaming, general anger morphed into specific hate; the soldiers started to tighten their formation around the protestors, unease was creeping under his skin and he knew it was time to leave.

Arnesco started forcing his way through the quickly compacting crowd, he heard a large chorus of guttural yelling and the sound of a single scream that would reverberate through Castanyan history. Nobody would ever be quite sure what happened, but it seemed that a particularly angry protestor with a few pints of M’athriva in him and goaded by the soldiers and inspired by the communists around decided that his only course of logical action was to pick a rock up off the street and hurl it at one of the soldiers with all of his might. Turns out, working in the mines for 30 years can translate into serious velocity when throwing a projectile and the rock cracked into the soldier’s face, shattering his cheekbone and sending him down like a sack of bananas.

There was a moment of silence, almost like a vacuum sucking sound itself out of existence. Then that scream, a long tear of pain and hate through the sky.

A crack ripped through the air, followed by another one quickly after. The rock throwing man fell to the ground, dead in a matter of seconds from the two bullets that tore through his insides. Then another crack, another, and another and another and another.

Screams.

Arnesco DeVilla started running. Everyone started running. Some people charged the police and were met with a hail of bullets, Castanyans killing Castanyans. A couple of the police were cut off from their line, surrounded by vengeful protestors who kicked and beat them. One officer had his gun knocked out of his hand as he was hit to the floor, he started to rise only to see his service weapon facing him.

Crack.

Chaos broke out, Arnesco was running as fast as he could, wheezing with blood starting to come from his lips.

Crack.

A lancing pain shot up his left leg. He took two more steps before his now shattered leg gave out underneath him and he went crashing to the ground, slamming his head into the unforgiving pavement.

Darkness.

“In today’s biggest news stories, we look at the rising profit on national exports, how economic growth for all of us is better than it ever has been, and we have a truly incredible news story that all of Castanya needs to know.

Earlier today, the nation was rocked by...the release of the Castanyan national football team’s roster ahead of their first ever international football fixtures in the upcoming Baptism of Fire.

Nothing else of note happened today.”

Poafmer Times - BoF Reports after Matchday 1

Postby PotatoFarmers » Fri Nov 22, 2019 7:28 pm

Off to a great start!
Report by Joel Hamilton
Forbridge - Thousands of fans marched on the streets to celebrate after Poafmersia got off to a flying start in the Baptism of Fire competition, where they trashed Barsland 8-2.
Poafmersian fans turned the city into their home ground as they cheered the players on thoughout the match. The loud whistles and cheering reverberated in the stadium, and the players promptly delivered with Joel Haodao, Pete Caris and Shakira Handris all getting on the score sheet. Shakira scored a hat-trick while both Pete and Joel scored another 2 each. Veteran striker Santik Manson later came of the bench to score the 8th goal to wrap up the biggest win in Matchday 1.
Head Coach Adnan Suliaha was really surprised at his charges' performance and was in extremely good spirits after the match. "Before the match, I actually fell sick, which was why I was unable to hold the pre-match press conference and everyone had to wait till the match started to know who I fielded for the match. I am really at a loss of words right now, but I think we have to thank all the fans who made the long trip here to support the national team and show our national spirit."
The players were also overjoyed at the result, but captain Danzik Hoboson said that they cannot be too carried away with the results of match 1. "We have 5 more matches to go, and hopefully we can replicate the performance of this round. However, I think the defence needs to be slightly more careful, especially with their 2nd goal which was partially due to an error on the defence's part."

Matchday 1 Squad vs Barsland:
Formation: 4-3-3
Jaliaha; A. Pickford, D. Hoboson (C), K. Trasa, D. Pickford (Gawson 62'); Walshor, Moonar, D. Trasa (Mchargarita 51'); Haodao, Handris (Manson 70'), Caris

Result:
Barsland 2
Player #9 31'
Player #10 82'
Poafmersia 8
Haodao 12', 61'
Handris 24', 43', 50'
Caris 35', 75'
Manson 86'

Fans determined to make Keppal City their "home"
Report by Nakira
Keppal City - Over 18 thousand fans are in Zwangzug as they follow the national team in their first international tournament, the Baptism of Fire. As per the group stage schedule, the national team will play 4 matches in the city at the Ayathen Arena. In response, the fan clubs have set up "base camp" in the city, with over 13 thousand fans believed to be staying in accomodation near the city, while the rest are living in Forbridge, which would be home to the team in their Matchday 1 and 4 matches against Barsland.
A group of fans we met in one of the local hotel said that they organised a live screening event in their hotel rooms for the people who were unable to get tickets to the first Match in Forbridge. "As you know, we have to ballot for the allocated tickets, and the free-for-all tickets were snapped up really quickly, so not everyone got to watch every match at the stadium. As a result, we opened our rooms so that our fellow comrades could gather together and cheer on our national team together," said one of the fans.
In fact, after the trashing of Barsland ended, many fans were out on the streets to celebrate, with one group making so much fanfare that residents even called the police thinking it was a riot. But it wasn't. A football-mad nation finally coming out of isolation by participating in the international competition for The Beautiful Game would definitely celebrate excellent performances by their team, and this was no exception.
As one fan put it nicely, "Nobody can stop us from turning this into our home ground."

Appy Wins! Appy WIns!
By Delma Hylton-McDuffie

TIMURA - Despite concerns over playing in what an anonymous source within the Appalachian Soccer Federation called a "Commie S**thole", the Hillbillys came out swinging. They blanked a respectable TJUN-ian team lead by two feared strikers, or at least feared heading into this tournament. "Big Bad" Joe Green and Vladimir Podolov looked like a formidable pair, but both were non-factors in Applachia's 2-0 victory over their team. A suffocating Hillbilly defense lead by Clayton Farmer and freinds played keep-away for the second half of the game leading to the 2-0 final score. It should be noted the game got started off a bit more furiously when both teams went on full attack mode at the start. Several attempts by each team were thwarted relatively easily due to both teams playing narrowmindedly and with tunnel vision.Teams would break away and suddenly get swollowed up by opponents defenders. It wouldn't be till 22 minutes in where some true action got going. thats when a penalty kick by Tiffany Drew sailed just into the hands of TJUN-ian keeper Harold Gylfisson hands. But 18 minutes later, Drew passed the ball to Bubba who knocked it in to the goal just past Gylfisson who was to slow to catch it.

Soon afterwards Drew got her goal as she got a beautiful snipe pass from Cleetus deep in the right corner allowed Tiffany to head the ball in past unlucky Gylfisson. THis sparked an idea into head coach Jim Conkey. Conkey pulled both Drew and other Winger Bryan Pearson and replaced them with defensive minded midfielders Bo Clembecker and Cody Falmouth. This put the team in a defensive mindset and that did wonders for the Hillbillys. time of possession was skewered heavily to the Appy team and in the last 30 minues, Appalachia held on to the ball a whopping 29 minutes.

There was a bit of a scare, good ol' Macho Man Hawkins did one of his famous sliding tackles and when the ball got away from an attacking Vijay Palalele, a midfielder who found himself in unusual territory, he did his usual "Flex" on the opponent. This drew the ire of the officials who yellow carded the Charleston Power FC hero and set up a penalty kick. TJUN-ian Joe Green went out to take the kick but shanked it akwardly to the left as it appeared he lost footing or something while taking the kick. In the end the HillBillys preserved the shutout and are now leading the group over fellow winner Bloing who beat the Plane of possibility 3-2. The fight is on as we could see a match-up of epic proportions with strikers Bubba and Dominique Luinski going head to head
