Beçonailles (Tennis)

Beçonailles

Event now closed

Thanks to an initiative by the new Reçuecian Ministry of Sport, founded only a year ago, the Championnats Nationaux de Reçueçn de Tennis, held annually in the beautiful city of Beçonailles, will for the first time accept foreign players in competition this year. The tournament, held on clay courts, includes both a singles and a doubles competition, but makes no distinction based on gender or other criteria. Les Championnats, usually simply referred to as 'Beçonailles,' after the city where they are held, takes place each summer and historically strong performance here has been a prerequisite for any Reçuecian player to claim their dominance. Beçonailles' heritage goes back many years and comes with many quirky traditions, but this year for the first time, changes are being made.

The opening up of this "National Championship" to foreigners is thanks to the direct involvement of the brand new Reçuecian Ministry of Sport. The very first minister in this new position, in fact, worked in Beçonailles previous to his new position, and so is very happy to see what was already the nation's premier tennis tournament become hopefully even bigger.

So, some tennis players in your nation have been champing at the bit for a chance to show their stuff in a tournament format? Here's what you need to know...

OOC

This is essentially a domestic competition which I am opening up for outside participation, which can be seen in some of the factors. I plan to hold it regularly (every time I scorinate my domestic football league) and if it is successful, keep rankings so that participation is a little more rewarding in the long-term. The domestic origins of this tournament have a lot of impact on its format; specifically, I am aiming to keep it pretty small. Since it is originally a Reçuecian tournament, although my players will not be receiving any sort of home advantage in scorinating, I will be rounding out numbers myself if necessary by including more of my own entries.

Entry guidelines: Every nation is allowed up to four singles entries and two doubles entries. (The singles entries and doubles entries do not need to be the same players.) Similar to the olympics, each nation can distribute skill values among their entries. You have 50 points to assign per entry, up to 300 points between 6 entries. Each entry must be given a skill value between 25 and 100.

Please include a trigram with your entry.

Miscellaneous: The tournament will be a single-elimination tournament, and I am aiming for 64 IC contestants for the singles tournament (32 doubles). I will be using xkoranate, and assigning cumulative rp bonus to those who post rps in this thread. Ranks based on performance in this tournament wlil be used for the next edition. IC, the tournament is on a clay court.

The ranking system for future editions is mostly laid out but I won't bother with it here.

Let me know if you have any other questions, and submit your entries here!

Edit: I'll drop in an application form here since that might make things easier for people. Just take out everything in brackets and replace it.

Past me wanting to flesh out the ideas I have been working out for my world through roleplaying and now present me is scared to roleplay because my ideas are not fleshed out. Going in circles, need to meme myself up, or get all depressed thinking that this might not take off and thus all this internal indecisiveness is going to be moot. Well blinking cursor I am going to do it, and this is a good chance to start over new since by this point in time my old successful players should be too old to keep going through this sport. So out with the old Ferret team and in with the new Salmagundi team, still has the uninspired ferrets in it. But, but, now it has a little bit more uninspired centaur like creatures and if I could be humored enough to figure out how an uninspired quadrupedal megafauna to handle a human tennis racket I would put that in there as well but I will spare the possible headaches.

Singles
Zephyr Snow (Ferret, male): 50
Mistral Ridge (Ferret, female): 50
TruthCheck (Taur, male): 50
FishCatch (Taur, female): 50

Doubles
Zephyr Snow / FishCatch: 50
Mistral Ridge / TruthCheck: 50

Trigram: Still use FCF though.

Will explain what the centaur like creature is in the IC if it happens, otherwise I have a whole quagmire of information slowly being put out there in my world building process. Also understand that I am going through whip flash trying to test out the new naming convention for ferrets, sticks out like a sore thumb I hate past me. Hope this takes off though.
Currently traveling across the United States. Still up for any conversations though.

A couple people were asking about sign-up format and stuff, so I'm here to explain, although it looks like people are figuring it out. Hopefully I didn't make things too complicated. If anyone's confused, feel free to use my sign-up or any of the sign-ups so far (they all look great!) as examples. I'll put a code in the op for people to use as well.

Anyway, for my sign-up, my team from the Haven Tennis Exchange is back.

Nation: Reçueçn
Trigram: RCN
Singles

Lucien Le Floch; 25
Gaëlle Sellier; 75
Thibaut Berthelot; 37
Abelie Fontan; 63
Doubles

Camille Fournier/Inès Fournier; 60
Adelinde Günther/Lucas Magnier; 40

I don't have a definitive timeline yet--I'll wait and see how many sign-ups we get--but if it gets to sixteen people (not athletes) I'll close the tournament and we can start. Otherwise I can put in filler entries (who will probably have lower skills and either way won't count toward my ranking afterward).

Oh, a tennis tournament. Why not?

Outside the Olympics the Kriegiersien tennis players only have local tournaments. The Kriegiersien Open, where no foreigners attend usually and the Kriegiersien Championships as highlights.

To test their skills for the next Olympics a bunch of players got the permission to prove themselves at the Championnats Nationaux de Reçueçn in Beçonailles.

Glad to see a bunch of new sign-ups!

So just like the olympics, there's a maximum overall average skill for each nation. It's even the same number--50. Without having done any of the math, Bolgano, all your athletes have skills above fifty, so you will need to fix this.

Although I'm avoiding any complicated math with standard deviations, I am still trying to avoid min-maxing, which I'm doing my forcing all of you to give every athlete a skill of at least 25 points. West Phoenicia, Arnic, and Kriegiersien, all of you have at least one athlete below this floor. Please correct this. Please make sure that as you raise the skill levels of these athletes, you are mindful of your average as well so that you don't create a new problem by solving this one.

For all of you, please make these corrections in new posts, otherwise I probably won't notice. Thanks!

Looks like we've got 43/64 singles contestants, so there is only spots left for 5 more nations. I'll submit a filler contestant for the last spot. It looks like the tournament will fill up soon and I can get things rolling!

Alright, thanks everybody, I consider this a pretty good turnout! We'll get started on Monday. I'll leave sign-ups open until I post the draw (probably Sunday night). There's still room for 3 more people, if anyone is interested, but otherwise I'll fill those spots myself. Any Reçueçian "filler" athletes I wind up using won't receive whatever rp bonus my main delegation receives, and I will also keep their skill rankings to below average. Their results will not count towards my ranking for the next edition.

You may all start to post RPs now, if you would like. I will TG everybody after I post the draw to let you all know things are getting rolling. Cutoffs will be every evening, my time, which is UTC+2. I'm not sure if I'll have irl commitments certain evenings, so I won't post a specific cutoff time, but it will always be after 10 pm UTC+2.

Can't think of anything I'm forgetting, but if you have any other questions, feel free to post them here or tg me.

Alright everybody! Signups are Closed! and I'll update the op to reflect that. I do want to have a power of two for our contestants, to get that nice full tournament round, so below are my filler entries. They will not receive rp bonus, so they don't share the Reçuecian trigram, despite the fact that they are all Reçuecians.

Singles:
Tristan Delisle; 35
Jérémie Coquelin; 35
Arthur Leloup; 35
Hildebrant Weisgerber; 35
Arthur Dreyfus; 35
Margot Ramberg; 35
Felicitas Höffner; 35
Josée Gardet; 35
Claire Chapelle; 35
Orianne Jégou; 35
Benito Agostini; 35
Esterina Picarelli; 40

Doubles:
Ottilia Canepa/Flora Rendina; 35
Claudia Santulli/Domenica Albergo; 35
Einhard Brahms/Udo Schmitt; 35
Arthur Leloup/Hildebrant Weisgerber; 35
Esterina Picarelli/Tristan Delisle; 40
Josée Gardet/Jérémie Coquelin; 35

I will post the draw shortly. Spoiler, it's seeded by nominal skill (which means, unfortunately, that rp bonus throughout the tournament won't get you an easier draw.).

What and who is to be expected at the Championnats Nationaux de Reçueçn de Tennis for Kriegiersien?

Ming Pournikova is the newly appointed coach and manager of team of the KTF (Kriegiersien Tennis Federation), famous model and average tennis player who is said to have an affair with the Kriegiersien president. However, he now manages the Kriegiersien tennis team in Recuecn and possibly at the Olympics.

For the Kriegiersien squad the tournament is a test and part of the intern qualification for the Olympics. With the new guideline that every athlete has to show a certain level or achievement to qualify, the times of third class athletes from Kriegiersien at the Olympics seem to be over.

Min Driel is the Kriegiersien champion and best hope for the title. Dominating the local scene for some years his results at the Olympics were mediocre, losing in the round of 16 against Kerem Yusufeli.

Amanda Acemonster is his female counterpart.
Her hopes were shattered at the last Olympics with a sensational loss as ranked Number 1 in the first round, to the disbelieve and enjoyment of her opponent Fatima Zoido. With a further loss in the quarter finals in doubles, together with Table tennis Silver medal winner and part time Tennis player Esther Ada, she lost her chance for a redeeming medal.

Even though having a powerful service, strength and endurance, she lacks a bit in the play itself and in confidence.

Mr. Handy is a cyborg who supports the team. The discussion if he is more of a robot or a man with many prostheses, heats the discussion in Kriegiersien sport since the introduction of the Zombiebots and Androids in the nation.
Image
A double match with Mrs. Codsworth and Mr. Handy

He lost with Min Driel in doubles in the quarter final at the last Olympics.

Timo Test is the surprising winner of the Kriegersien Open, as always without many foreigners participating, except some from Zombiestan and most of the Kriegiersien Top Players missing this time.
His triumph gave him a ticket to Beçonailles.

In doubles the Kriegiersien champions are Basti Falk and Tim Tim who didn’t get the results at the Olympics they had hoped for, losing in the round of 32.
Min Driel who reached the quarter final with Mr. Handy at the Olympics, now got a new partner to test with, Papadopulous Dee, Finalist at the Kriegiersien Open.

Baranil's Tennis Stars Prepare for the First Round of Les Championnats

Image
Oleksandr Ilyinishna during a practice match against Boris Yenin.

After Tennis had previously only been contested in the occasional matches between Oleksandr Ilyinishna and Boris Yenin, the opening up of Les Championnats to foreign players have given what the duo hope to be "Life to Baranillian tennis".

They had searched through the streets of Skar in Central Baranil to find 6 participants in order to field a full team for Baranil, and after seven long hours of doing so, they finally accomplished their objective.

Their fellow Baranillian tennis players will easily be some of the worst tennis players at the tournament, as it seems that currently only Jora Victorovich has exceeded the tennis ability of a toddler. However, that doesn't mean that it will necessarily be all doom and gloom for Baranil at Les Championnats as the fantastic skill of Oleksandr Ilyinishna and Boris Yenin mean that it would be an unlikely event if one of them went far in the singles competition.

So, Baranillian tennis fans should keep an eye on the singles competition, as it seems like the only one of the two competitions where our participants have a real chance of advancing beyond the first round of the competition, although I do wish to the stars that the doubles participants can suprise me and win one or two matches at this years competition.

With all of that being said, I look forward to this year's Les Championnats and wish the best of luck to all of our homegrown players and wish that they do our great nation proud on the international scale, as well as hoping that players such as Zenka Victorovich and Slava Vasilievna see this and strive to prove what I have said to be utter poppycock rather than be disheartened by it, of course.

If anyone knew of Ferret Civilization politics or more likely where the Ferret tennis players got their funding from they could find it peculiar that the state approved business monopoly did not have any connections to this iteration of their forlay into the sports scene. That was because after the success of the second test iteration seeing the Ferret players take the top spots in the tennis world the test was ended, along with most international tennis related events in a twist that seemed to line up perfectly. Though that abrupt end to things did not leave the kind of closure that some were looking for, most important of whom happened to be Dagmar, who using the personal funds that they earned by winning the high stakes tournaments they had left over after acquiring property in Ceni was able to convince the local business councilor to see what running their own tennis tournament would be like. While the jury had to say what they had to say about that whole event that was the retirement party for the original Ferret tennis team who at the near end of their journey managed to find a lot of victory. Times changed rapidly from there however, the independent state known as Ferret Civilization no longer existed and was replaced by an entity that went by the Coadunate. Going by the definition of that word it would be clear that multiple national entities had come together to unite into one. The people collectively referred to themselves when it came to being recognized as part of a political entity as salmagundi to invoke the mix of nations that they would become. Not that it would matter much to the outside world, putting more barely noticeable things out there for everyone to know did not make it a more noticeable thing to learn about. But it did have some opportunities to bring new interested individuals into the world of sports to go the other way and learn about all the different things that are out there going about a normal routine before and after they arrive. With that came a new team to show off to the world, one funded this time through personal finances and whoever felt like chipping in. To the important part that everyone would actually notice in the flesh is the team itself, made up of two most likely familiar Ferrets and two new members to the international stage what the Ferrets call Wolftaurs. Ferrets as some knew were anthropomorphic creatures that resembled the animal of the same name on Earth, or some of them, the consensus was out on that one as well. Wolftaurs on the other hand looked a lot like the mythological centaur, except they had the lower half of a draft horse sized dog with an anthropomorphic dog top half. It could be the real peculiar thing to see such a large species working with such a small one. Though going to Reçueçn would be a new test to see if such a union could work out in their little world of tennis.
Currently traveling across the United States. Still up for any conversations though.

The best Bolgano players prepared for their first International tournament.
Tennis in Bolgano is a very recognized sport, but only the best participated in the 3 national “Grand Slam”, Fedek Open, Capital Cup and closing in Seven Challenger, Benjamín de la Garza is known to take the Tennis of Bolgano to the most great when he won the 3 national Grand Slam in the last year, Andrés Da Silva is another Colossal of Tennis, he also achieved that goal that Benjamin de la Garza had recently had, but although they are locally inclerable his problem will be internationally since they have never played at this level, only some players recently in Ferret Civilization.

Recuecn are the locals, a tournament in Tierra Batida where one of the big three is done here (Seven Challenger) so it is not so difficult to handle for all 8 players, the players are anxious for the start of this tournament so hopefully see How will it go?

Day 1
Narrator: Today Andres Da Silva will play his first international match, apparently wearing a ribbon with the flag of Bolgano, which good representation of his country, hopefully a good assessment of this player for his country.

De la Garza: Long time without beating him in a National Grand.

Leftwich: What are you doing watching the game, shouldn't you be training?

De la Garza: I only see him as they sweep him on the court

Leftwich: The same thing can happen to you, rookie

De la Garza: Silence, you're just jealous because you didn't receive the invitation to play in Singles, enjoy playing in Doubles

Leftwich: I don't care about that, as long as I take the trophy, it's fine for me

Fasch: Because they are so stupid, Malcolm come here if you don't want to be barred in doubles

Leftwich: We won another important tournament, we will take it to Bolgano while all you will do is come on vacation

De la Garza: Curucuru, you can't make silence that you deconcentrate me, I'm making fun of him

Fasch: Shut up idiot, if you don't train you are more lost than Tanzan in the city

De la Garza: Will you use that tape?

Leftwich: Me and your Fasch?

Fasch: The same, since all we do is fight better let's go.
