New UN Cuban Embargo Vote All US Cuba Venezuela Related Issu

Postby NS Miami » Fri Nov 08, 2019 8:50 am

I am a Native Cuban and American citizen

Vote and post all pro and con views are welcomed. You may Vote Post read the instructions on the introduction post below.

Discuss why Israel voted no, despite having a few very limited informal diplomatic and economic relations. Discuss why Colombia and Ukraine abstained.

Republican Senator Rick Scott proposed a US naval blockade of Cuba or Venezuelan Ports to force Cuba to drop its support of Nicolás Maduro in Venezuela.

Discuss the US Embargo, a US naval blockade of Cuba or Venezuelan Ports. The Cuban doctors US asylum program should it reinstated or not. Cuban doctors working overseas for the Cuban government. The Cuban rationing system, US Cuban immigration policies, you can compare other nations immigration policies as it relates to Cubans and non Cubans, it is allowed under NS Rules.

Discuss all Cuba US and Venezuela related issues pro and con.

The Cuban embargo has not worked because the Cuban regime of Cuba trades with almost all nations of the world, has economic, political and cultural relations with almost all nations of the world. Canada, All European nations, Germany, Great Britain the UK, France, Italy, Hungary, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, Mainland China and other nations. Receives at least 4 million tourists per year from these nations and other nations.

It is clear the western style democratic nations don't care about democracy in Cuba, but they care about democracy in Venezuela and other nations to an extent.

Cuban embargo has not worked because the Cuban regime trades with almost all nations of the world

The Cuban embargo has not worked because the Cuban regime trades with almost all nations of the world and receives Cuban American family remittances and care packages including food, goods, medicines and even toilet paper from Cuban Americans and Cubans all over the world.

UN votes overwhelmingly to condemn US embargo of Cuba

UNITED NATIONS (AP) — In a slap to the United States, the U.N. General Assembly overwhelmingly approved a resolution Thursday condemning the American economic embargo of Cuba and rejected proposed U.S. amendments strongly criticizing the lack of human rights in the island country.

Resolutions adopted by the 193-member world body are unenforceable, but they reflect world opinion and the vote has given Cuba an annual stage for the last 27 years to demonstrate the isolation of the U.S. on the embargo.

It was imposed in 1960 following the revolution led by Fidel Castro and the nationalization of properties belonging to U.S. citizens and corporations, and two years later it was strengthened.

The General Assembly's vote on the Cuban-sponsored resolution on the "Necessity of ending the economic, commercial and financial embargo imposed by the United States of America against Cuba" was 189-2 with no abstentions. The U.S. and Israel voted "no" and Moldova and Ukraine did not vote.

In earlier separate votes on the proposed U.S. amendments, Ukraine and Israel were the only countries to join the U.S. in voting "yes" on all eight measures while the Marshall Islands backed one amendment. Some 114 countries voted against the amendments and about 65 abstained

The proposed amendments expressed serious concern at the lack of freedom of expression and access to information in Cuba and the prohibition on workers' right to strike. They called on Cuba to fully grant its citizens "internationally recognized civil, political and economic rights and freedoms," to establish an independent civil society and to release people detained for exercising their human rights.

Cuba's Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez called the U.S. embargo "a flagrant, massive and systematic violation of the human rights of Cuban men and women" and denounced what he called the politicized U.S. amendments.

"The government of the United States doesn't have the least moral authority to criticize Cuba or anyone when it comes to human rights," he said.

Rodriguez accused the U.S. government of committing "crimes against humanity," pointing to its dropping of the atom bomb in Japan in World War II, waging wars that "caused the death of millions, many of them innocent," and carrying out what he claimed were "extrajudicial executions, kidnapping and torture." He also accused the U.S. of violating the human rights of its citizens, singling out Afro-Americans, Hispanics, minorities, refugees and migrants.

I don’t see the point of the embargo. We trade with many other nations with just as bad governments.
Most of the time I have no idea what the hell I'm doing or talking about.

”Many forms of government have been tried and will be tried in this world of sin and woe.
No one pretends that democracy is perfect or all wise. Indeed, it has been said that democracy is
the worst form of government, except for all the others that have been tried from time to time." -
Winston Churchill, 1947.

"Rifles, muskets, long-bows and hand-grenades are inherently democratic weapons. A complex weapon makes the strong stronger, while a simple weapon – so long as there is no answer to it – gives claws to the weak.” - George Orwell

The Point is the only thing hurting the Cuban People like my family still in Cuba is the Cuban government embargo on the Cuban people.

Cubans in Cuba are not allowed to invest in Cuba, even if I send them the money to do so. My family in Cuba is not allowed to invest in the Cuban economy even if I send them the money. Investments in Cuba are done by foreign corporations in partnership with the Cuban regime, and a Cuban government employment agency hires the Cuban workers for those corporations. Cuban are paid in Cup Pesos not in Cuc Pesos - Cuban Convertible Pesos which have a higher value than the Cup Pesos.

The Foreign corporations pay the Cuban government regime in hard currency money.

As Fidel, Raúl, Diaz-Canel and the Cuban regime says, we are the continuity of the revolution, of the eternal revolution.

Cuban Americans know no one in the world cares about western style democracy in Cuba, this is a statement made by many Cuban Americans when we talk about Cuba with each other. The western style democratic nations don't care about western style democracy in Cuba, this is a statement made by many Cuban Americans when we talk about Cuba with each other.

But their are exceptions of persons and political parties in certain nations, but they are very few and rare.

I don't understand why after the Cold War ended, there should be any embargo at the first place. I think people understand that like Iraq, it's possibly going to affect civilians more than the very government they want to fall, I hope?

I don't support efforts in forcing Western-style democracy on every nation on earth. Nations have their own characteristics and although civil rights and freedom are nice to have, I don't think it's going to work just as nicely in every place.

Thank you Farnhamia for giving my thread on Cuba a chance. the Poll options that say discuss or used to and is probably still on the OP introduction Post covers Cuba and the current issues of Venezuela well.

I will use only this nation to post on my Cuba thread.

quick question. I see many of the nations who seem to have a Problem with me strongly defending President Trump are posting on my Cuba thread. They have made views I can quote on. I see their nations, am I allowed to quote them on any threads without breaking an NS rule of conduct? Except for Therm and Gormwood and a few nations I know for sure. Many others I am not sure, but I see all their nations from all my nations on all threads? So they have not officially put me on their ignore lists from what I seem to understand?

I am afraid to quote them and get in trouble with the Moderators and banned from NS which we all love or ruin my clean record which I am very proud of and wish to keep clean. I post it because I am very proud of my clean record.

Apparently they have not put me on ignore. I see at least 18 nations who seem to have a problem with me on my Greater Miami Shores nation and NS Miami nations and perhaps others.

Thank You Farnhamia,

NS Miami Shores Alberto.

Many people are saying the Cuba embargo will be dropped after Raul Castro comes up with some dirt on Joe and Hunter Biden...

But seriously folks, the embargo isn't working because embargos don't work. Neither do blockades (which would btw also be an act of war). And if Trump decided tomorrow that carpet bombing Havana or inviting Maduro to a state dinner would polish his apples with his base, then that would be US policy.

The only way true democracy takes a hold of Cuba, is if American capitalism finds its way into the island and flushes all the communism straight out.

Obama tried that, but of course Trump is always haunted by that WHCD which means Black Man Bad so he undid the opening up of Cuba and put on Embargo 2.0 to give that Uppity Kenyan Muslim whatfor.

At this point Cuba seems to be wealthier, I guess.

Schrodinger's Cuba, somehow both a crumbling, miserable, starving failed state and the secret Latin American hegemon whose power can uphold or topple governments in far larger and wealthier nations.

The embargo on Cuba is such a pointless and hypocritical relic of the Cold War that continues "just because." If we trade with openly despotic countries such as China, then how can we pretend that we're blockading Cuba due to some nebulous concept of freedom for the Cuban people? They ain't no liberal paradise but they're no North Korea, either.

This blockade just hurts the people who have family on the island. I have a classmate who was nearly in tears because the Department of State recently began restricting all flights to Cuba except for Havana, and his family lives on the opposite end of Havana. It's just gross and callous.

Combination of pandering to the Cuban exile community who had their goodies taken away by Castro and Trump trying to say "Up Yours, Nigger" to Obama after he began defrosting relations with Cuba and allowed travel there.
