Ever heard the expression "knowledge is power"? If alien visitors are significantly more technologically advanced that has massive implications. Anybody that had access to some technology would have an advantage against possible competition/enemies, it would have public, social and economic ramifications. Not to mention motives and agendas one can only query at. Alien life, especially if it is superior to us, is extremely sensitive and would have to be managed with caution and consideration.

I think there's something with him along some kind of lines like that. He seems like a sort of public intelligence/counter-intelligence asset to someone. If he was really such a renegade, he would not be so visible and would have been snuffed.
