[PLANNING/HOST BIDS] Games of the I FCN Winter Olympiad

Postby Furbish Islands » Mon Oct 21, 2019 4:15 pm

EDIT: Fletcher Landing, Gagium, has been chosen as the host city. This post will be updated again when the signup thread is created.

Following overwhelming support from the FCN RP poll, here is the next regional sporting event. This thread will be for planning and host bids, as said above. I was thinking this event would happen during Christmas Break, where most of us have a week and a half of days off(21st-1st are off for me, not sure about anyone else, maybe the schedule would have to be compressed to fit in twelve days, unlike the usual 16).

Warning to anyone planning on bidding, don't underestimate the task of bidding. When I hosted the Games of the FCN Olympiad last summer, with 126 events(100 medal, 26 demonstration), and 12 participating nations, about half of which didn't even max out their entries, it took me a full day and half to process applications. It also took a while searching up how the Olympics IRL have their event formats running. Finally, when scoring, it took a minimum of two hours each day, though for a few days it took up to five.

That said, I hope someone other than me can apply this time. After hosting the past two events, I hope to give someone else the chance. (And I won't even be in my state for a lot of the time, so...)

Here is a possible list of events. There is a total of 109 that will be in Beijing in 2022. New events added since Pyeongchang in 2018 are underlined.

The events of course are up to the discretion of the host, though I recommend that the future host does research into all of them, including their entry rules and formats, and their disciplines because I may have gotten some of them wrong.

And finally, a train service to transport spectators between far off clusters, as done by pretty much all countries now, would be nice.

Gladesmen are trained in the skills of Beverage Drinking, Biking (because cars are banned in Gladesville), and Furniture Restoration, and trashing Hillary Clinton. Gladesville has no skills that are tested in the Winter Olympics, but the Summer Olympics (of where Cycling is tested), will be when we take home medals.

One of the few nation's with a frightening economy, without a single car. One of the most developed nations, but our government is corrupt as fridge. Tourist hot-spot, but the ruler Vindalbal II refuses to even put basic footwear on. Environmentalist, Nationalist, Vincaracist, Gladesville. PewDiePie is also a nasty person.

Welcome to the snowy town of Fletcher Landing, Gagium! Home to 64,000 people, Fletcher Landing is notable for its winter tourism, ranging from its ski resorts to the town's famous ice skating rink. Gagiumish winter athletes are no stranger to the town, often visiting its practice bobsleigh course in preparation ahead of the Olympics. The national Gagiumish Hockey League championship game is often held at the renowned Three Pucks Arena in downtown Fletcher Landing, drawing crowds of thousands of people every year.

Fletcher Landing: Located in the northern parts of the United Commonwealths of Gagium, the town was founded in 1874 by a group of loggers seeking out a profit among the snow-capped hills and mountains of the region. The Yellow Silver river flowing through the valley made the location an excellent candidate for the logging town's founding, and by 1876 operations were in full swing. The town reached a population of 3,000 by 1900, during which the logging industry hit a downturn - But a new industry rose up. Winter tourism in Gagium largely has grown steadily thanks to the town of Fletcher Landing, with the towns' first Alpine skiing resort being founded in 1909. The town's population skyrocketed to 50,000 by 1950, where it has only grown marginally in permanent population since then - However, new ski resorts and other tourist attractions have ensured that the towns' winter tourism population has only grown.

The peak has a few notable skiing resorts and destinations located on its slopes, one of which will be used for alpine skiing. The Bearlong Ski Jump Facilities are also located on the mountain, to be used for the ski jump events. Bus services are offered from the regional airport to Fletcher Landing every day of the week, and the town itself is located on the primarily 6-lane freeway National Highway 4. During the games, bus services will be offered to all venues, as well as ridesharing services for spectators. The Olympic Village will be built with a more-than-decent bus terminal.

OOC Note:
The games will be held in a largely similar fashion to the Summer Olympics that were hosted in the Furbish Islands. Gaming may or may not be included as demonstration events.
