TCB-TLA Joint Statement on Moderation in the DSA

Postby Llorens » Wed Apr 01, 2020 5:05 pm

The Leftist Assembly & the Revolutionary Republic of The Communist Bloc

Joint Statement on Moderation in the Democratic Socialist Assembly

Read the statement here.

The Leftist Assembly & the Revolutionary Republic of The Communist Bloc
Joint Statement on Moderation in the Democratic Socialist Assembly
2 April 2020

The governments of The Communist Bloc and The Leftist Assembly are extremely concerned by the ongoing tensions between the Democratic Socialist Assembly and The Internationale concerning Discord server moderation in the former. With the recent development that both regions are considering the closure of their mutual embassy, and that the Democratic Socialist Assembly may potentially depart from the NSLeft, we are collectively compelled to urge all parties to take a step back, pause and reconsider their actions.

The Solidarity Pact of the NSLeft was formed in 2016 in light of the collective desire across the left-wing community of NationStates to have a united pan-leftist body representing all of our interests and bringing our regions closer together. This should never impede upon the sovereignty of each region to determine its own rules and members, but it created a fundamental understanding that each community should uphold the tenets of pan-leftism in its own ranks.

We feel that the actions of certain members of the Democratic Socialist Assembly, specifically in relation to the moderation of its Discord server, have brought this issue of unity and pan-leftism into the spotlight. Pan-leftism does not mean that we cannot vehemently disagree with one another’s viewpoints, but we must be given the opportunity to do so in a welcoming environment for those who are willing to participate in a constructive manner. Furthermore, we hold that pan-leftism means that all leftists who do not express discriminatory, racist, homophobic, or otherwise oppressive views should be treated with the same respect. Pan-leftism means we cannot deny this respect to ‘tankies’, ‘libs’, or any others on the grounds that they aren’t ‘genuine leftists’. This, in itself, is sectarian and against the principles that this alliance seeks to foster.

We implore the Discord server moderation team of the Democratic Socialist Assembly to amend its rules to ban the use of redbaiting and highly sectarian behaviour, akin to that of our own regions, in order to restore the principle of pan-leftism. We would be willing to have our own server administration teams discuss such measures if the region is interested. Both The Communist Bloc and The Leftist Assembly have had experiences dealing with sectarianism in the past, and we are more than happy to assist our comrades in learning to combat it in both its intentional and subconscious forms. Moreover, we encourage the idea that Discord server administrators and moderators, while free to have their own beliefs, should not allow ideological alignment to cloud their judgement when dealing with toxic arguments or discussions.

We are all united in our opposition to capitalism in all its forms and must stand together to strengthen our voice. Our governments fear that the potential closure of embassies or an exit from the NSLeft by any of its member regions will jeopardise activity, membership, and solidarity across the left of NationStates. We must stand strong if we are to encourage a united left across the game.

We all signed the Solidarity Pact acknowledging that should we ever disagree, solutions would be sought diplomatically. While we understand that the governments of The Internationale and the Democratic Socialist Assembly have spoken to each other privately, we urge them to consider a discussion with the wider alliance of the NSLeft, moderated by an independent mediator.

We must strive for an approach that will preserve pan-leftism. The NSLeft is better together.

Signed,

Llorens, Secretary, The Leftist Assembly
Kavagrad, Vice Secretary, The Leftist Assembly
Greylyn, Minister of Foreign Affairs, The Leftist Assembly
Angelina Lotara Zurchli, First Minister, The Revolutionary Republic of The Communist Bloc
Nathaniel Kuznetsov-Penrose, Minister of Foreign Affairs, The Revolutionary Republic of The Communist Bloc

As the Delegate of Auraelia I wholeheartedly support the Democratic Socialist Assembly's right to pursue it's sovereign self-interest and would should it decide that leaving this bloc is for the best I'm certain I'll not be alone in offering the DSA support should it seek out new allies.

Obviously they don't, their regions aren't ascended enough to understand true internet (twice daily!) democracy. It's clearly just a ploy and a trick, and I imagine they even forced you to remove the fascist symbolism that was on your flag until about 15 minutes ago as a part of their manipulative tactics.

Congrats to TLA's election winners :P

The International Socialist Congress would like to propose establishing some sort of actual embassy with the Leftist Assembly, being that we are socialist brothers and sisters. It would be bridging the gap between our RP group and your WA focused region, but a step in uniting us in the general cause of representing socialism on NationStates.

We look forward to a favorable reply. Let us know what we can do to enable that agreement.

We salute you, Comrades!

The ISC is a forum roleplay society, not a region, and it is therefore mechanically impossible for it to construct an embassy with TLA (since only embassies between two regions are possible). Unless I'm missing something...?

You are correct.
It's not actually a GP mechanically viable action, my friend. It's more of a written agreement and giving mutual respect between a socialist based region to a socialist based RP group.
