Ethiopian PM wins Nobel Peace Prize

Well, the long-awaited winner of the Nobel Peace Prize was announced today and it is Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed. He won the prize for his efforts in ending the bitter conflict between Ethiopia and Eritrea, which were greatly affecting people on both sides of the border as well as massively stunting the two nations' economies.

On the other hand, earlier this year, TIME predicted that, alongside Ahmed, Greta Thunberg was the "clear favourite" to win the prize, and NZ Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern was also given a very strong mention.

So, do you think Mr. Ahmed is deserving of the prize? Do you think it should have gone to Greta Thunberg, or Jacinda Ardern, or someone else I didn't mention? I personally think Abiy Ahmed deserves it more than anyone else, but I'm very interested to see what NSG thinks.

Primarily because I don't think "not being Trump" is a very high bar for the prize and because she hasn't done all that much to deserve it.

Congratulations to Abiy Ahmed. He has done his best to finally reform Ethiopia towards a functioning democracy, and if his reforms succeed, then another long-lasting dictatorship will fall and be replaced by a government that is accountable to the people. Though he must deal with the ethnic unrest first before it develops into another Yugoslavia, or worse.

I think Ahmed was very deserving. Ending a conflict like that is no small feat, and I doubt anyone has come close to that.

I don't know why Trump hasn't won the prize yet, but I can only assume it's because of the prize not being awarded to right-wing people.
