I think it's fine to do a name inspired by a foreign culture out of real respect for that culture, but not to be trendy or unique.

I'm more concerned about stupid names than foreign names, people who be naming their kids shit like Abcde or Emperor Sebastian Seventeen. That shit pisses me off because it sets up a helpless kid to be bullied or discriminated against. As for people appropriating cultures they have no connection to, that's not so bad but I do admit to some discomfort at the thought of white parents naming their kid Xi Jinping or something.

A name can be "ethnic" and that can result in discrimination too, but a kid named Abdullah being made fun of is a shitty reality of discrimination that shouldn't happen, whereas Abcde is narcissistic morons of parents setting their kid up to suffer.

I do admit I've contemplated somewhat "unique" names for my imaginary kids, though I don't actually have or want kids. My favorite male name is Cesare (pronounced like CHES-a-ray) because I loved Cesare Borgia on The Borgias and thought the name sounded like someone who wins and someone you don't want to fuck with.

For a female named I thought of "Amlyn" although if I did have a daughter I might not go through with it, for common names I prefer Shannon. Which I do admit to wanting to replace the o with a y because deep down inside I'm a terrible person.

Eh, I think it's fine. We can't really micromanage the motivations and cultural wokeness of every parent's naming choice. Some will give their kid a fancy multicultural name for dumb reasons, others will do so out of a genuine love and understanding of its meaning.

Also, depends on the specific name. Naming a white boy Jamling: fine. Rita: please don't.

And it's kind of cringey if you borrow names like "Xiaopeng" that are way overused by outsiders compared to how common they are in the original culture. I cringe every time I see someone using "Xiaopeng" as a generic Chinese name because it's not really that generic.
