How many starships exist in your space navy? - FT and OOC.

For awhile now, I've been running surveys amongst my own RP group trying to get a handle on various aspects of their nations... One in particular is pretty basic that I find pretty interesting.

How many combat starships, not counting space fighters, does your space navy have?

I took some averages of the numbers collected, but the sample group was fairly small and I'm really curious what NS at large is packing around. For the purpose of record keeping, I'll add all new figures into this post for reference... On top of that, I will average the numbers presented. It is hoped that this thread may provide an idea if what the future tech community considers acceptable through consensus.

And just as a disclaimer, the findings of this survey are, of course, non-binding. No one needs to accept the averages as anything other than what it is... A fun little project to see how many ships actually exist in the universe for the purpose of waging war, what philosophies and doctrines players have, the average number of ships per nation and, of course, have an interesting and civil conversation about any aspect of scales and measures in use by people who have interest in such things.

Ooo getting myself to post in other threads. Can tell if many people post here there are going to be some really big numbers so this survey needs some extreme outliers in the other direction. So, for this nation, seven. Seven space worthy vessels that all go to the military.

My intention was to let things get rolling and then start differentiating outliers with one of these bad boys... *. After the outliers are separated from the mean groups, I'd run three sets of averages, one containing the lower numbers, one containing lower numbers and outliers and another with just the outliers. I'm going to be flexible with this and all suggestions are welcome.

The CFP's peacetime fleet consists of 12000 ships of various sizes, though 11000 of them can be regarded ships of the line (though not neccessarily capital).

We have 84 combat-capable starships. They're all repurposed freighters purchased from an FT nation, since we don't have the infrastructure to build our own FT ships... yet.

If we mobilize every ship in our space navy, and fill every ship to capacity, we can transport roughly 66,000 people at once.

We focus much more heavily on interdimensional travel than interstellar travel, but we do maintain a small fleet for emergencies. Our FTL method, the Phase Drive, involves warping a ship into a dimension that has a much higher speed of light, then accelerating the ship conventionally. 80 of our 84 ships are equipped with Phase Drives.

I assume the K-Sphere has at most one Earth-mass of ships available to throw around at any given moment, since dismantling a bunch of rogue planets / doing some starlifting, refining the metals, and printing out automated fleets from all of it seems well within their capability without really stressing their resources.

I did the rough math on this, and if even only a few percent of this mass is allocated to the small, compact FCR-type vessels ("fighter" or "bomber" sized by other nations' standards) they ended up with something like ten quadrillion (1 x 10¹⁶) space-capable vehicles.

Honestly, this number would seem pretty reasonable for a more conventional alien nation too, if you also took into account orbital megastructures and how many quintillions of people you could fit into each solar system from the amount of mass you have available to refine... but nobody does that, because ten quadrillion is a nonsense number that people don't like using narratively.

I get that. I get that space fleets of hundreds or thousands make sense in terms of what humans can process well and associate with. But sometimes when you crunch the math hard enough, and you take into account the sheer efficiency of resources-to-ships available to FT nations (including manual fission/fusion as necessary), you end up with staggeringly large numbers no matter what. And you consider that the power available is multiples of ten-to-the-twenty-six watts for anyone who hits Kardashev II, and that starlifting's an awesome source for ten-to-the-twenties of tons of fusion fuel, and you come to grips with the understanding that even maintaining them is feasible given strong enough coordination (like a superintelligence).

So I don't really know what to say. The K-Sphere holds maybe a couple of systems tops and mined out all the debris in between them, and their final number is ten quadrillion. Make of that what you will.

The Fenvaria Republic has somewhere in the ball park of 25,000-26,000 ships total, this includes logistical ships as well. I am still working parts of the navy and stuff so sorry for not a more accurate number

With normal consideration, currently 15,400 vessels are ready for roles involving extra-national offensives, originating from the Staatswehr and the combat wing of the SS (the Kampf-Staatsschutz).
