The Democratic Republic of Abanhfleft is a massive nation located mostly off the coast and deep in the heartland of the region of Antarctica. A massive population of 460 million people call Abanhfleft home, and they live in all sorts of environments from the urbanized Capital Islands to the frozen tundra and taiga of Fleftic Antarctica to the deserts of Mezaladbyi and the mountainous forests of the Fhulghamous Peninsula. People are all over the religious, political, and gender spectrums, and attitudes for other cultures, ideologies and sexualities are for the most part open.

For most of its history, Abanhfleft has been a nation at war, constantly seeking to expand its territory. These "wars of conquest" lasted until the 1980s with the Fleftic invasion of what is now Verbergerkinnh Province, and Abanhfleft has since moved on to more peaceful pursuits such as international sport. A longstanding issue that Fleftic politicians have had to contend with to the present day is the Mezaladbyi Insurgency, a decades-long rebellion initiated by a mysterious figure known only as "the Colonel" and the detonation of a dirty bomb in the old provincial capital of Sleeping River.

Abanhfleft follows a democratic bicameral system of government but the huge size of the Fleftic Congress lends itself easily to bureaucracy, and even non-controversial bills that would usually be passed within a matter of months or even weeks could take years to go through Congress and the Senate. Abanhfleft's currency is the new penenk, with a fixed exchange rate of 3.50 new penenks per NS dollar. The new penenk replaced the old penenk in 2010 after rampant inflation saw the devaluation of the old penenk to over 10 million old penenks per NSD. Hotels and accommodation in Abanhfleft are expected to have good cheap prices for foreign visitors but watch out for local scammers seeking to make quick bucks off of gullible foreigners.

ARENA FOOTBALL IN ABANHFLEFT
Arena football is way less popular than the outdoor version of gridiron football in Abanhfleft. So vast is the gulf in popularity that the Fleftic people were practically unaware that there was such a thing as arena football until 2014, when Abanhfleft opened itself up to the greater multiverse and the people got access to arena football streams from other nations. That being said, while there have been many attempts to establish a nationwide arena football league, all those attempts have so far failed, and arena football remains relegated to being a primarily regionally-based sport where teams play other teams only in their general province or region. The region in Abanhfleft with the biggest arena football following is the region known as Greater Fleftic Antarctica, which consists of the provinces of Fleftic Antarctica, Verbergerkinnh, Duhblakk, Tiembabkh, and Ceneisis, as well as the Colony of Trendstart, with teams from the region playing in the Antarctic Indoor Football league (AIF). All stadia used for Arena Bowl VI are located in the Greater Fleftic Antarctica region adapted for arena football use.

Arena football is not the most popular sport in the Democratic Republic. Far from it, actually. And yet Abanhfleft decided to make a host bid for the Arena Bowl, and surprisingly it was accepted.     RP injuries to my players: No
Godmod injuries to my players: No

Sarzonia Stars

Head Coach: Chad Embry (37 years old)
Recently retired from a playing career in Delaclava as well traveled backup quarterback, Embry brings a conventional style of offense for arena gridball and a reputation as a players' coach. He calls his own offensive plays.

Assistant head coach/defensive coordinator: Skip Donahue (66 years old)
He lost out on the head coaching role to Embry, but they hit it off so well during the run up to the coaching announcement that he readily accepted the defensive coordinator role. He will call all defensive plays and prefers an aggressive defensive scheme.

Special teams coordinator: Thad Regala (43 years old)
Regala punted for 11 years in the Sarzonian outdoor gridball system, then took on an apprenticeship as an assistant coach at various high schools and universities before he became a special teams assistant with Catherina in the Delaclav indoor gridball league.

Quarterbacks coach: Gavin Davis (33 years old)
Davis played in the Sarzonian outdoor league for years, but he's best known as the starting quarterback for Sarzonia's two-time World Bowl champion national gridball team. This is his first time as a coach after a lengthy playing career.

Line coach: Joe Agnew (48 years old)
Agnew played five years in the now-defunct Sarzonian gridball league, earning the league's best two-way player honours in 2006.

Running backs/linebackers coach: Cal Pendry (39 years old)
Pendry played linebacker for nine seasons in the outdoor game and began coaching his daughter as a running back for her university gridball team. He is new to indoor gridball.

Receivers/defensive backs coach: Philip Longley (41 years old)
Longley played wide receiver for 11 years and played three games as a free safety when his outdoor gridball team suffered multiple injuries in its defensive secondary. He served as a defensive backs coach for the Raleigh Knights semipro side in Sarzonia for four years.

ROSTER
Starting Lineup (10 players are listed; one quarterback and one defensive specialist and one kicker)
QB 12 Clark Weston (6-foot-2, 225 pounds), known as a pocket passer with a strong deep arm, he isn't going to gain a lot of yards on the ground, but he can be elusive in the pocket
RB/LB 21 Alvin Pendry (5-foot-8, 195 pounds), small and elusive, he's able to duck under hits and prevent himself from getting the brunt of the most vicious contact.
WR/CB 23 Sylvain Landry (6-foot-1, 200 pounds), great combination of size and speed and great hands make him a terrific all around threat. Still a work in progress as a defensive back.
WR/CB 34 Barry Tomlin (5-foot-9, 182 pounds), absolute burner on offense who's expected to be a shutdown corner on defense.
TE/LB 46 Lawrence Tyler (6-foot-2, 230 pounds), better known as a terrifying linebacker and phenomenal hitter than a tight end, although he's a good possession receiver when needed
OT/DT 60 Asante Daniels (6-foot-5, 329 pounds), great blind side blocker who can take up space on the defensive line and push back most offensive tackles
C/NT 53 Howie Bostic (6-foot-3, 296 pounds), arguably the smartest player on the roster; he calls all the line signals on both sides of the ball
OT/DT 70 Kyle Michaels (6-foot-4, 300 pounds), brilliant pass rusher who's made impressive strides as a blocker on offense.
DS 33 Dylan Geoffrey (6-foot-3, 215 pounds), a ferocious hitter with the coverage ability of a cornerback, he can often resolve matchup problems with bigger, faster receivers if necessary
K: Joe Avant (6-foot-2, 205 pounds), one of the few kickers who works out with and does drills with the team, he can often be seen hanging out with the receivers/defensive backs and can make the occasional special teams tackle

Reserves
QB 10 Ja'relle Gaffney (6-foot-0, 195 pounds), unlike Weston, Gaffney is a scrambler. He does not have the best deep arm, but he's deadly accurate on short to medium throws.
RB/LB 39 John Crowley (6-foot-1, 235 pounds), he often handles the short-yardage role and can bring a powerful running style to spell the fleet Pendry.
OL/DL 63 Reggie Thompson (6-foot-3, 320 pounds), mostly a tackle, but can play center or nose tackle in an emergency
OL/DL 77 Hugh Thomas (6-foot-6, 350 pounds), he's a brick wall and often plays nose tackle on defense and offensive tackle
FB/LB 52 Reed Davis (5-foot-11, 260 pounds), no relation to the quarterbacks coach; known more for being an edge rusher on defense
WR/DB 80 Willie Laws (5-foot-10, 185 pounds), played defensive back in the outdoor game; this is his first time potentially playing offense and it's his first exposure to the indoor game
WR/DB 82 Chris Stallworth (6-foot, 200 pounds), he grew up with the indoor game, and is the best combination of offensive and defensive skillsets on the roster.
DS 34 Kevin Lowery (6-foot-1, 200 pounds), he played strong safety in college and in the outdoor game. This is his first time on an indoor team's roster.

The Andromeda Eagles Roster

Postby The Andromeda Archipelago » Sat Aug 03, 2019 4:23 pm

A Bit of History

When the Conservative Party took power in the Andromeda Islands, American football became more popular throughout the Archipelago. Boys and Men from all over the country began playing on high school, college and semi-professional teams last fall while women and girls were able to play Arena Football. The AWAFA, the Women’s Arena Football Association, just concluded their inaugural season last July.

Eagle players are listed by their offensive positions unless indicated otherwise.

Training Camp
Angeles City, Allied States
Monday, July 29, 2019
10:45 am

With the Andromedan Women’s Arena Football Association (AWAFA) Season officially over earlier this month, the three best coaches selected the best players in their league to come together and enter the 6th World Arena Football Tournament.

The coaches decided that the team would forego the standard training regimen. The coaches elected to have the players scrimmage while they discussed the details involved with playing in the World Championships.

Right now, it’s essentially the Todd’s Cove Lady Clippers playing the Angeles City Sun Spots, with a few players from the Portsmouth Mud Hens on each side. The stadium roof is open on this humid late-July morning. Head Coach Maddie Kim watches from a few rows up, making notes in a notebook. The two assistants for the 2019 Andromeda Eagles Football Team watch from the sidelines.

“So, Linda, what do you think of Coach Kim?”

Linda Cardenas, Coach of the Portsmouth Mud Hens, led her team to 3rd place in the inaugural AWAFA Season.

“She’s got a talented team.”

Just after she says that, Team Captain Britt McManus connects with Kerri Zimmerman who runs into the end zone. The two assistants pause as the teams switch players.

“We all have talented teams, Linda. You played Arena Ball overseas, didn’t you?”

“You did too, Willa.”

Willa Pittman, Coach of the Angeles City Sun Spots, led her team to the Andromeda Bowl, the league championship game. Both of her team’s losses were to Todd’s Cove, coached by Maddie Kim.

“We both played and coached big-time Women’s Arena Football. What has Maddie done? Where did Maddie play?”

“Willa, this game isn’t about X-es and O-s. It’s about the players. That’s what makes the game fun.”

On the field, Quarterback Geri Benton throws a lateral to Opie Robertson who attracts a number of defenders. Robertson then throws a second lateral to Jasmine Hopkins, who scores a touchdown.

Head Coach Maddie Kim comes down and stands next to Pittman. Kim coached Todd’s Cove to an undefeated season, including road wins over both the Mud Hens and the Sun Spots. Kim looks up at the dark clouds above the stadium.

“So, how does it look?” Kim asks.

“We should be able to finish before it comes down,” Cardenas says.

“Not the weather. The team: Are they ready?”

“They look good, Coach,” Pittman says.

“As ready as they’ll ever be,” Cardenas adds.

“So, let me ask you two something, honestly. Do you think we’ll win Arena Bowl 6?”

“No.” Both assistants answered quickly.

“So, let’s have some fun with this.”

All three coaches are silent as they watch their players play. Coach Pittman breaks the awkward silence.

“Coach Kim, did you play Arena Football?”

“Not professionally. I played in summer leagues in Threlizdun.”

“They have Arena Football in Threlizdun?”

“Something like it. It’s not so organized.”

“And what about the uniforms?”

Coach Cardenas brings up an issue that all three coaches have thought about.

“In some countries, women’s pro teams have these uniforms which emphasize their ‘assets.’ When we were players, Willa and I had to…”

“No,” Pittman says, emphatically.

“The girls will never stand for it,” Kim says.

“Good. Just thought I’d ask.”

The coaches and the players all feel a hint of precipitation in the air. There are about three minutes on the game clock.

“Should we close the roof,” Pittman asks.

“And kill the momentum?” Cardenas sees that this scrimmage may end on the last play. She didn’t want to interrupt the game.

“I think they’d rather have a slight sprinkle and a soft, cool breeze.”

At that moment, all three coaches knew that they were on the same page.

Most national teams in Sarzonia have a smattering of the typical locker room banter. There's the usual trash talk, the usual discussion of sexual conquests, that sort of thing.

For the Sarzonian national indoor gridballers, however, there was little of that. The players were just starting to get to know each other and their coaching staffs. Some of them were just starting to pick up the nuances of the indoor game as opposed to the outdoor game.

In Sarzonia, lacrosse was king. Five World Lacrosse Championships will do that. Outdoor gridball was important, yes. So was basketball. Even football and baseball had their time in the sun.

The last dinner before Sarzonia's first match didn't see the usual jovial discussions about all things big and small. There was quiet small talk until backup quarterback Ja'relle Gaffney said out loud what his entire team actually was thinking about their ragtag motley collection.

"We need to do well," he said. "The chances of our starting a new league and having it succeed hinges on how we do in this Arena Bowl."

There were a few quick murmurs and a couple of vigorously nodding heads after Gaffney spoke. The players all knew they had to at least have a strong showing. There wasn't the breathless coverage of every move the Sarzonian lacrosse team enjoyed. There wasn't the daily check ins from training camp the outdoor team had in its heyday. There wasn't the jockeying for the beat at The Woodstock Daily Mail that there was for the football team. There was the new reporter fresh out of J-school who was being assigned to cover the team. Only Gavin Davis even had a verified Chirp account, and that was because he was the starting quarterback for two World Bowl champions and two World Bowl runners up.

If the Stars did well, a rich financier might well spend the money necessary to establish a league and request financial backing, compete for network coverage, and result in various media outlets covering each indoor gridball team. If they won a title, they'd likely earn a following among Sarzonians who enjoyed winning championships in any sport. Hell, field hockey even had a small following as a result of a plucky Stars team defeating the sport's juggernaut in a world championship final.

All of that hinged on how this team performed in this tournament. And the players all knew as they looked around the table that the hopes and dreams of all the men who assembled there, all the players and coaches and trainers and equipment staff hinged on whether or not they won.

The three weeks the team gathered together at The Palestra in Woodstock to serve as sort of a training camp flew by. Even the night before the team gathered in the hotel lobby felt like a dream.

Except for one thing.

"Fuck!"

"What's wrong, coach?"

"I forgot my keys!"

Skip Donahue had to laugh at that moment. Young head coach Chad Embry was on point with planning every drill down to the second. He had team-building exercises developed to help turn a collection of players into a reasonably cohesive team. He even had the delineation of duties precisely.

He turned around with his face a bright red in embarrassment as he walked toward the hotel front desk, hoping for his room key so he could search his room for the keys he was going to give his girlfriend. Then he heard a jingle as he finally made it to the desk. He looked down, rolled his eyes, slapped his right hand on his forehead, then bent down.

His keys had fallen out of his coat pocket. He then realised he put them while he was fixing his trousers. He walked back toward the rest of the team, which was now chuckling. He gave a look of mock anger, then he finally started laughing.

"Guess we're ready after all," Donahue said, looking at his boss and laughing again.

As the team walked off the field at Imgortur Ice Sports Center with a 66-31 victory over United Civil Republic secured, several players pointed to that moment at the Woodstock Radisson as being the moment when the players became a team. They saw their coach as being willing to laugh at himself and not take himself too seriously. They all had a moment when they were united as one team.

With his mind no longer on his momentary gaffe, Embry implemented his strategy for the first match of the group stage. He played his backups every third series for the first three quarters, then allowed them to play the last eight minutes of the fourth quarter. The Stars were leading 66-21 with four minutes left when United Civil Republic scored the final 10 points of the game. When defensive specialist Dylan Geoffrey recovered the onside kick with a minute left, Embry knew he could exhale.

After the team gathered in the dressing room, they looked at the scores of the other matches and several players gasped.

They saw the Yeezies had won by 100 points, throttling The Western Carolina Union 113-13. Terre Septentrionale's 82-13 demolishing of Danurbia might have gotten attention if not for the Surge's 100 plus-point scoring output. The rest of the scores were much more competitive, especially fellow Group D competitors Devonta defeating Bolgano in overtime 47-40 and Cosumar escaping from Lisander with a 35-34 victory. Besides Sarzonia's 35-point margin of victory, the next biggest blowout was United Civil States earning a two-touchdown victory over Free Republics in Group B action.

Needless to say, all the talk on the team bus back to the hotel was about the Yeezies.

"One hundred point margin. One hundred thirteen points. Holy fucking shit!"

"I sure wouldn't want to face them!"

"Fuck that!"

"I would want to face them!" Geoffrey said. As his teammates began to look at him like he was crazy, he explained. "We want to be the best, we're gonna have to beat the best. If they're the best team out here, and they made the best Matchday One case, then we've got to beat them if we want to win the whole thing!"

KANYEANS OBLITERATE CAROLINIANS 113-13 IN ARENA BOWL DEBUT

by Chuck Duncan

URANIUM CITY - The Kanyean national arena gridiron team entered Arena Bowl VI here in Abanhfleft expecting no match to be easy. After all, this is the Glorious Free Republic's first taste of international competition when it comes to gridiron football (which while popular locally, takes a backseat to stock car racing and basketball). The team adopted the Surge nickname previously used by the Kanyean teams which brought home four International Basketball Championships, including a threepeat from IBC 22 to 24. Would the glory of the legendary hoopsters rub off on the arena ball squad?

The new Surge were placed in Group A with newcomers Bekian Impei and fellow NSSCRA (Nationstates Stock Car Racing Association) participants Xanneria and the Western Carolina Union. Also in the group are hosts Abanhfleft, which St. Kanye regarded as friendly rivals in basketball, but which they will likely see as a higher power in gridiron due to their, the Fleftics', vast experience in the World Bowl.

The first match for the new Surge is against the WCU. The boys of Yeezie head coach Jeff Delphine hoped to do their best, perhaps grab a win to start things off on the right track. And it looked like their best was too good for the Carolinians, with the end result being a total massacre. WCU scored thirteen. St. Kanye scored the same as that..... plus a hundred.

St. Kanye marched into the Antarctic Forum wearing their primary away getup of white jerseys and purple pants. They won the toss, and elected to kick. WCU was first to score though, a 24-yard field goal by their kicker making it 3-nil. The Kanyeans responded quickly, with a pair of touchdown passes from Landon Klein to Bruce Dobler on their next two possessions. The Carolinians got to scoring range on their next drive, but Gary Bradman, St. Kanye's defensive specialist, forced a fumble on the opposing running back, which lineman Simon Carver scooped up and ran back to the end zone. The onslaught continued, and we're still in the first quarter. Noah Sherman added a 23-yard touchdown run, and Dobler caught a long bomb from Klein, to make the score 35-3 after fifteen minutes of play.

The second quarter saw Sherman run for three more touchdowns, WCU's RB get one, and Surge slot receiver Patrick Moore join the scoring party. The Carolinians kicked off to start the second half, and Taylor Johns returned it all the way to extend the Kanyeans' advantage to sixty, 70-10 after the extra point. The WCU quarterback couldn't stop the bleeding. As he once again got to scoring range, his supposed deep pass was picked off by Bradman for his fourth interception of the day, and Bradman returned the ball all the way for a TD. Moore also caught his second touchdown in the third period, and Dobler his fourth. With an eighty-one point advantage heading into the final frame, Coach Delphine rested his starters and brought in the reserves.

The subs continued the beatdown that the first unit started, with Hunter Lane catching a short pass from R.J. Linetti to become the third wide receiver to score for St. Kanye for the day, and Linetti himself showing that he can make plays not only with his arms but also his legs as he scrambled to the end zone untouched to put the Surge past the century mark in points. Randall Cole added a long touchdown run, and Linetti opted for a two-point conversion, which was successful. WCU put up another field goal by their kicker, cutting their deficit to "only" a hundred.

Klein finished the game with 349 yards, six touchdown passes, and zero interceptions. Dobler had 156 receiving yards and Sherman had 125 rushing. The Carolinian QB was sacked seven times, three by Matt Dawson, and intercepted six times, four by Bradman. Coach Delphine is definitely pleased with his players. "Very big win. Just goes to show just what we can do if we do our best and play as a team. We're not getting over-confident against teams like Abanhfleft, who's been playing gridiron internationally far longer than we have, or Xanneria, who has experience, though just in the college game. We'll just continue to play at a level as high as we can and not let ourselves get intimidated by teams who are better on paper."

In the other Group A result, Xanneria narrowly escaped Bekian Impei, 36-33.

The somber bus ride home was not what anyone had expected. The team had lost by a margin of 30 points. Coach Diann knew that when they got back to the city the boys would be training. They were not just going to lie down. Marquita felt terrible, they had picked her over her domestic team's starter, and so far in the opening match, she hadn't done to well, with most of her passes falling short. She had been happy that Fester had been picked. His barreling speed combined with a quick hand-off from her proved to do well.

Meanwhile, A-Coach Hassen was sitting with Naber.

"So I want you to sit down with the team this week and lead the defensive drills."

"Really Coach?" Naber was surprised, well not to much after the terrible performance her mates put on, but still surprised enough.

"Yes, I would believe that you could do it?"

"Of course Coach, you can count on me."

"I knew I could."

Just before the Andromeda Eagles’ first game
Imgortur Ice Sports Center
Imgortur, Abanhfleft
Sunday, August 11, 2019
11:50 am

After a ten-week season, a two-week training camp in Angeles City and a week of adjustment to the climate and culture of Abanhfleft, the 2019 Arena Football Andromeda Eagles are just moments away from their first kickoff in the 6th World Arena Football Championships.

The team is assembled in the locker room at the Ice Sports Arena in Imgortur. The three coaches emerge from the coaches’ office. The players calm down as Assistant Coach Linda Cardenas speaks.

“Four months ago, a number of us started planning the first Arena Football Season. We didn’t know what would happen. We got women and girls from all over the country to play on our teams. Many of us weren’t professional athletes or coaches. Some of us still worked day jobs when we started. For most of us, it wasn’t about money or fame. We just wanted to play.”

Cardenas, the Head Coach of Portsmouth, is the quarterback coach for the Eagles.

Assistant Coach Willa Pittman steps forward.

“One thing I have found this past season is that communities throughout the Allied States come together every weekend. They look to our brothers who play high school and college ball. They’ve also come together to support us women in the ASAFA (Allied States Arena Football League). This game isn’t just about us. This is about the communities we represent. This is why we play.”

Pittman, the Head Coach of Angeles City, is also the Defensive Coordinator and Coach over the Special Teams.

Head Coach Madeleine Kim steps forward.

“I hate to say anything that may go against what Coach Pittman just said. There are communities throughout our country that look to us, but what I don’t want is for us to be frozen by those thoughts when we go out there.”

Coach Pittman nods in agreement with Coach Kim.

“We’re playing our first game in a few minutes. We don’t know much about them, except that they sure enough don’t want to get beat by a bunch of little girls.”

“We’ve played a season of Arena Football. We were picked from the best teams. We are black, white and everything in between. One of us is even Asian.”

The team laughs at Coach Kim’s reference to her own heritage.

“All we got to do… All we have to do is what we’ve been doing since May. We do our best. We play. We play our game.”

Britt McManus, the starting QB, stands up.

“We play our game.”

Geri Benton, the backup QB and Opie Robertson, a receiver, join McManus.

“We play our game.”

The rest of the team stand up and join the team.

The team runs out of the locker room and gathers in the tunnel just minutes before the game starts. The three coaches remain. Coach Pittman and Coach Cardenas look down at Coach Kim as if she’s about to give some sage advice.

“What? Let’s get it on.”

ARENA BOWL VI: WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

So it turns out that there is actually a multiversal arena bowl competition going on. It's up to six editions now, and the aforementioned sixth edition is currently being hosted right here in Abanhfleft. Whodathunk? I didn't even know that we had a bunch of arena football leagues going on all over the place. I mean, I've heard news of plans to set up a nationwide league backed by all sorts of people in sports and business and politics but after that, nothing. Regional leagues feels all right though. Keeps the sport a little bit more grounded. Maybe this is what arena football needs before it finally takes off nationwide. I don't know.

So anyway, the Arena Bowl is now in Abanhfleft. But where the heck is it happening? The answer to that, my friends, is all the way over to the south, in Fleftic Antarctica and Verbergerkinnh and all those lovely southern provinces. Apparently that's where the best arena football is. They've even got their brand-spankin-new arena football league going there too, Antarctic Indoor Football. Not sure of how many teams there are in there right now, maybe four or six, but I hear it's actually quite a successful operation despite all of the operating losses from playing in front of four-figure crowds in five-figure stadiums. That's right, Uranium City, I'm calling you out on using the Antarctic Forum for arena football games. Although it now seems as if the plan all along was to get a team established in a city with a big stadium for when host bidding time comes, we'll get a higher chance of getting picked, which is what appears to have happened.

So, the Antarctic Forum. The biggest indoor stadium in regular use in the country (because the Fleftic Arena don't get used all the time, you know) is now playing host to Arena Bowl VI, along with a few other stadiums, but we'll get to those ratty-tatty others later on. Currently, the Antarctic Forum reduces itself from 60,000 to somewhere around 30,000 whenever they play arena football in there, and even then I have never heard of an arena football game selling it out, mostly because the biggest arena football crowd ever recorded (in the whole country, not just in UC) is just somewhere around 10,000, when the Uranium City Icemen played against the Vikrant Vimanas in the final of last year's AIF. (The Vimanas won, by the way. Spoiler alert! As my cousin Graham O'Doherty would say). But then we get to the very first game of Arena Bowl VI (Western Carolina Union versus Saint Kanye, of all people) and I read that 25,000 people actually went there! Sure, most of them were Yeezies, and you could make the case that they were there more for Uranium City's golden boy Jazz Higgs (who, remember, is half-Yeezie) but still, that's an impressive crowd for arena football. Then I took a look at the score and this is all that I can say:

Image
The greasy-haired hook-nosed fellow in long flowing robes gets it.

Another surprising thing I've learned about this new Arena Bowl is that the Trendstarters are apparently very good at this sort of thing. Oh, we all laugh at the Vikrant Elephants for always blowing their chance at a Fleftic Bowl, and the less said about the Vikrant Conquerors tanking for that first pick the better (not that it did anything for them; the first pick went to the Malhall Raiders anyway). But in arena football, the Vikrant Vimanas have actually dominated the sport. Or at least they have dominated Antarctic Indoor Football. In four seasons of play the AIF has only ever had one champion, and that champion is the Vimanas. Well, at least the people of Vikrant have got something to be proud of (although they still can't shove it in the face of the Antslinngs Islanders since those guys have won an actually relevant trophy like the Bixbee Cup).

And that's it for this handy-dandy little guide to all that you need to know about the Arena Bowl VI here in Abanhfleft. If there's one thing that I can say about this, it's that it's a little bit strange that the host nation didn't play the first ever game of the tournament. But then again, I'm not the tournament organizer. I can only assume that they know better than me. But then what about that thing they say about assuming making an ass out of u and me? I don't even know anymore, man. I've just dug ourselves into a rabbit hole and there's no telling how deep this mother is. Anuraag Patil, Anuraag Patil, Anuraag Patil....

For a lot of teams, the Arena Bowl is a new frontier, and sometimes there will be hostile spears awaiting them there.
The only option then is to fight back to back and show no mercy.

Chad Embry was having a bad morning. The room service breakfast he'd ordered was completely charred. By the time he went downstairs to the room reserved for his team, the food had already been put away.

"Breakfast is supposed to be from 6 a.m. to 9 a.m.," he said at the hotel front desk to a particularly unsympathetic front desk clerk.

"We ran out of food," she said, mumbling as she stared at the cash register in front of her. She looked up. "What do you want me to do about it?"

"Bring your manager over, for starters," Embry said in a firm, but quiet voice. His eyes narrowed and his eyebrows scrunched.

"She's not available," the clerk said tersely. Right then, however, a graying woman who appeared 50-something walked over to the counter. She was wearing a maid's uniform.

"Is there a problem?"

"This," the clerk said, in a voice that obviously tried to hide her contempt for Embry, "gentleman here asked to speak to the manager." Much to Embry's -- and the clerk's -- surprise, she turned with a bright smile to Embry.

"Good morning, sir," she said. "I'm Evelyn. I'm the manager." The clerk looked down at her register as if to hide herself. "What seems to be the problem?"

"My breakfast was burnt and there was no food in Conference Room 5 by the time I got there at 8:10 this morning." Evelyn's smile faded, but then she said, "I'm really sorry, Mr. Embry. I'll be sure to comp you a night's stay for your troubles. She reached into her apron pocket and pulled out what looked like a business card.

"If you have time, you can stop over at the restaurant across the street. They serve a great breakfast 24 hours a day, seven days a week. This card will get you a free meal on me. I'll make sure we have plenty of food for you and your team when you get back from the Belgrano match. Best of luck!"

She then turned to the clerk and whispered, "Gladys, please see me in the back office," and she looked back at Embry as if to apologise for the bad experience.

The team bus arrived at the venue about 15 minutes later then usual, so the team had to skip their two-tiered stretching exercise in favour of a shortened version. Embry was nervous because the Stars were facing a Belgrando side that was still smarting from an overtime loss to Devonta on Matchday One. They didn't want to risk losing any advantage.

Embry needed have worried. The Stars played like they were the team out for blood and demolished Bolgano 78-15, giving the Stars a 2-0 mark through the second matchday in Group D. Again, Embry played his reserve players every third snap and gave them the entire fourth quarter to allow his starters to remain fresh. After the team had a brief celebration followed by a speech from Embry, they turned their attention to the scoreboard. The Andromeda Archipelago walloped Devonta 89-10, robbing the Stars of a possible rival for first place in the Group D tables. Host nation Abanhfleft hung a 100-plus point margin of victory over hapless Western Carolina Union with a 111-10 victory. Meanwhile, Saint Kanye walloped Axnneria 70-3 to complete the second Group A blowout.

In Group B, United Civil States and Geektopia both improved to impressive 2-0 records with the former earning a dominant 76-3 win and Geektopia winning the closest matchup of a boring Matchday 2 with a 60-46 triumph. As for Group C, Danurbia convincingly trounced Lisander 70-40 and Saintland walloped Terre Septentrionale 66-6.

By the time the Stars returned to their hotel, an unfamiliar hotel clerk was sitting at the front desk. Embry would find out later that Gladys was fired.

The coaching staff viewed the off-day as a way to solve their problem.

The team huddled around Naber as he began to talk. "Alrighty now, Coach put me in charge of the drills today, so listen up. We are gonna start with match ups. Fester and Straker, then Runner, Ackman and Trang, next Valorie and Eccleston WR, now Elbert, Kerrie and Coletti, finally, Fay, Bennett, Merrill, Brodie and myself."

After the drills were completed they watched the match ups, most impressively their brothers over in Group B with another win, this time by a good margin. Then they rejoiced when Bolgano got beat by Sarzonia placing them at the bottom of the charts. "At least we are not them." said Hassen.

After the close win the first game, and there defined win tonight, the team felt as though they were unbeatable, but after watching Geektopia play Ko-oren they felt a little fear.

Coach K spoke first after the film session, "You see boys, we got lucky tonight, this is a team that really knows how to move the ball and play, and we will need to beat them, so remember we practice hard, and we play harder."

Nevins was still happy over that hit he got on the Velstrani QB that forced him onto IR. The line had collapsed the best it could have and he came in with the hit, not to mention the spectacular run back that they got on the fumble. "By the way, Luiz congrats on that fumble recovery."

Mace Gumbel reports from Andromeda News Network Studios in Andromeda City about the Eagles debut at the Arena Football Championships in Abhenfleft.

“The Andromeda Eagles Arena Football Team played their debut match against Devonta this afternoon. For more on that and other games in the Arena Football we go to Scott Stuart at Imgortur Ice Arena.”

Scott Stuart stands outside of the stadium, which is now empty after two matches.

“Talking earlier with Coach Kim, she told us to expect a good game out of her team. The Eagles didn’t disappoint.”

(Cut to highlights)

“With the opening kickoff, Kerri Zimmerman returned it the length of the field and scored the first of the Eagles four first-quarter touchdowns. Zimmerman then intercepted an errant forward pass and nearly scored a second TD in the first two minutes. Instead, QB Britt McManus served up a quick slant to Opie Robertson for the Eagles’ second score. Andromeda was up 28-0 at the end of the first stanza.”

“With a 48-3 lead at recess, Geri Benton took over QB duties. Devonta scored their sole touchdown midway through the third. Benton answered with touchdown pass to Ivanna White.”

(Cut to Stewart)

The Eagles cold kilt it tonight, ending the game with a dozen touchdowns and… an 89… 10 win. Back to you, Mace.”

(Back to Mace Gumbel at ANN Studios)

“While the Eagles were impressive, they weren’t the only team to Kill ‘em and Leave.”

(Cut to graphic of Arena Bowl 6 Tables. Mace Gumbel speaks as the scores appear on the screen.)

“Seven of the eight games this weekend were decided by more than two touchdowns. We’ve also had two games so far where the margin of victory… THE MARGIN OF VICTORY was in the triple digits. Scott Stewart talked with Coach Maddie Kim about what to expect in the coming weeks.”

(Cut to Coach Kim after the game)

“I can tell you this, I won’t be getting to much sleep in the next three weeks. There are so many teams who came out like gangbusters. So many offensive schemes and defensive setups… The next three weeks should be something to see.”

“Indeed. Who was your standout player today?”

“It was hard to pick just one, but I’d say Opie Robertson. She played the whole game and either caught or ran for five touchdowns. This game would have been a lot closer if it wasn’t for her.”

“There was one point where she quite literally ran out of her shoes.”

“She’s a natural talent, Stu. As you know, when her shoe flew off early in the fourth, she was still able to get the first down.

(Cut back to Gumbel at ANN Studios)

“We’ll be right back with highlights from World Cup Qualifying. Mace Gumbel. Andromeda News Network.”
