Is asexuality real?

Asexuality is a rare sexual orientation in which the person lacks a sex drive and therefore flat out doesn't possess any sexual feelings. Either that or their sex drive and sexual feelings are so weak that they are negligible. Despite the acceptance of asexuality as a legitimate sexual orientation in the mainstream scientific community, there remain those who insist that asexuality doesn't really exist for whatever reason. I had the misfortune of knowing one person who was a sex addict and insisted that asexuals weren't healthy or "just depressed."

I believe that asexuality is real (though very rare) and a legitimate sexual orientation. But do you think it is legitimate? If not then why?

I mean, that's either true or it's not, so that's basically 50/50.

I believe they mean the lack of a sex drive. And no, its not really a sexuality, as it is asexuality, it’s the absence of it

I agree with you pretty much. To me it just seems like people making a sexual orientation out of the fact they have a negligible sex drive.

It's very much real, but also extremely uncommon. There is a clear definition of it and you can find people all across the globe who are asexuals. There's no doubt that it exists.

...or adults who just naturally don't have a sex drive. Asexuality is very much real (I have even known and been friends with asexual people), and they don't need to be picked on or minimized for lacking a sex drive.

I personally have a strong eye for female beauty, the majority of my friends have always been female, I definitely feel attraction, and I love flirting perhaps too much. But I'm not interested in having sex with anyone I'm not married to, and I'm sure as heck not married right now, which means the only person who goes in my bedroom is myself. And I'm perfectly cool with that.

What do I gain if I go through the trouble of doubting people's own assessment of their sex drive, really? And from what point of expertise? Because I get horny now and then it stands to reason that all people everywhere do and if they don't they're lying? What kind of weird unempathetic shit is that?

There's no incentive even to doubt them. Why wouldn't it and why would I care either way?
