Kenmoria wrote:“There are indeed dangers to any prison, but I don’t think a complete ban is a necessary response to this. A repeal allows for more nuanced legislation, giving nations the freedom to do what they want with their justice system.”

"It is not that we disagree entirely with reformation, however the idea of it should be made and prepared to be implemented before the repeal not after, leaving a major time between the repeal and reformation is likely to cause problems within the prison system."

"Creslonia will be voting for this resolution. We support the reasons for the repeal, and hope that something improved can replace the original prohibition. Until further notice, Creslonia will continue to not employ private prisons."

Anyway, now that that's been dealt with. It seems that a section of us delegates are in agreement that a replacement resolution must be readied as soon as the current repeal passes. However, we do not see any initiatives from the author, or from anybody else, in creating a new resolution.

We will gladly cooperate in drafting a new resolution, and hope that said resolution gets created as soon as possible.

Prohibit Private Prisons

Postby Ashlea » Fri Sep 27, 2019 7:24 am

We agree that something must be done with the current prison system. Conditions are horrendous, in an attempt for companies to save money. Government must take over and oversee all prison operations. A new resolution must be decided on.

We have voted against, precisely because we do not want to see an even worse one passed. Otherwise the whole notion of Prohibit Private Prisons is a ton of worthless bureaucratic claptrap that merely exists to keep government unions in power. What if you replaced prisoners with, say garbage? Does privatized disposal carriers actually have a wicked incentive to actively promote people to throw out more trash? Is the ownership really the problem or is it the lack of proper regulation of the industry? And if we take the repeal to heart, is it really an urgent matter to out source, say the prison janitors? Or really is "criminals convicted in foreign non-member countries" really an issue here? (Seriously can any WA nation compete with a NON WA nation for ... prisoner holdings? There has to be a lot of other WA resolutions that significantly up the cost per inmate compared to a horrid non complying nation.)

But it will pass, and it will be repealed and we will debate something worse and it too shall pass and in the end I'm going to be so angry that my time was wasted. Of course, I could just play hooky during the next vote; it's not like this is going to make a hill of beans in my nation anyway.

To what extent (if any) would there be a violation of plagiarism policies if someone submitted the original resolution (while citing Christian Democrats) with a few small changes to reflect consensus?

OOC: Full extent. Do not do this unless you obtain express permission from CD. Plagiarism is an automatic ejection from the WA.

Free market, hah! We didn't know the World Assembly doubled as a comedy lounge. All forms of privatization must be abolished, and if we have to go about it piecemeal, then so be it.

No. Prisons regulation is only government sphere of activity. I think private prisons must be prohibited.
