Hardly worthy of a discussion thread.

So you say, but here we are already on page 3.

But back to earwax...

I always thought that earwigs and earwax went together--I guess the words just sounded alike, but I honestly believed that earwigs made their home by crawling into somebody's ear canal. It creeped me out.

This is what you are supposed to do!

I saw my dad get one heck of an ear infection from using cotton swabs. They pushed and then caused earwax to build up and impact, which also aided in the proliferation of bacteria. I’ve been wary of the things ever since.

I just use warm water and a small towel.

I have a doctor's permission to carefully use a cotton swab, because my earwax is so sticky that it actually can cause hearing issues for me.

Apologies for absences, non-COVID health issues leave me with very little energy at times.

I quite regularly use the cotton bud things to have a dig around. I've tried the drops but they always seem reluctant to come back out and the digging around afterwards to try and restore hearing that doesn't sound like being underwater is much more likely to give me an ear infection than having a little poke.

The West won the world not by the superiority of its ideas or values or religion … but rather by its superiority in applying organized violence. Westerners often forget this fact; non-Westerners never do.

Those have been thoroughly discredited as both ineffective and as safety hazards.

That’s why you should never put anything in your ear that’s smaller than your elbow.

I use a cotton swab. I have heard that you aren't supposed to, but it does the job well in my case. It sure beats using maggots to clean your ears like this tribe in Indonesia does.

I’m not ashamed to say that I often just pick it out with my finger.

Me either.

I also have relatively mild tinnitus, and while I'm thinking it started with a cerumen build-up, and wax does build up in my ear canals rather easily, any sort of liquid squirted in there just makes everything grumpy for a few days: leaking, plugged feeling, impaired hearing, and general frustration. No, doctor, do not come at me with the entire Pacific Ocean in a jug and try to squirt it in my ear! I usually use a Q-tip when I feel there's getting to be a lot of wax in there, but I need to be careful because sometimes I accidentally push wax around in the wrong spot and now my problem ear feels plugged for a day or two. Interestingly, almost all of my problems are with my left ear, rarely my right.

I don’t insert anything in them.
