A New Wild West

The History of the New West

In 2040 four major powers of the world managed to perform the greatest feat of human engineering, the terraformation of Mars, why, the answer is very simple, Earth began to run out of resources meanwhile a world just next in order of the planets that resources have not been touched ever before, and so it was done and by 2085 plants have settled in and by 2090 the animals from Earth found a home, some genetically modified, some not, and soon in 2100 the first colony ships launched each of the four countries that terraformed Mars carving out a piece for them and establishing a Mandate sponsored by them, the part belonging to the US looked oddly like the Great Plains...

Everybody knew what it meant, from the first sight of the landscape, A New Wild West, the return of the age of outlaws and lone rangers, and after a brief Gold Rush in 2110 and a civil war regarding the rights of Androids spanning early 2120s to mid-2130s with the fall of the 2nd Confederacy, the area looked just like the Wild West, and thus our story begins in 2143, either in the Gang of one that goes by Fast Hand Ollie that will need to outclass other gangs in the area and face a threat more powerful than anything or in the town of Big Iron where the Iron Mine stopped giving out iron and now citizens of it need to defend against a forced eviction from their homes by one Hover Transportation Inc. Building a hover train railway, to cross the New Great Plains, who knows if, at one point, their stories won't become one story

In The Town Of Big Iron

Four horseman ride into the town center all carrying weapons and cards. They get off their horses and go to the nearest building where they pin the cards of paper to the wall, each reads "You have a day to pack everything you have and get out of the town" with some signatures under. The Mayor, Andrew Scott stumbles on one of the men "What the f*ck are you doing here" the man replied "Giving the people of this town some information" the mayor visibly got angry "Yeah, go and build somewhere else, we don't need any of your business here" the man took out his revolver and aimed it towards Andrew "watch your mouth, old man, if you would be smart you would have already packed up" Scott looked confused for a second then he aimed his weapon towards the man aiming at him, one of the man companions aimed at Scott. After a tense moment, they all lowered the weapons and the horsemen went on their way, after the incident, Scott went to the hall and upon its balcony from which he said with a megaphone "Everyone in the town please come to the Town Hall!"

Somewhere In The Desert

Ollie smoked outside of some tents of the camp his gang set up, their morale was low and Ollie knew he would either do something or get killed by his disgruntled and gold-hungry companions. He then called a meeting in which everyone from the gang was present, thankfully for Ollie had something that could interest them "So, people, I have two things we can possibly rob before the Aventura's do it" those goddamn brothers, many of Ollie men already defected to them, it was an all-out war between him and them, but, they were too fast, but, Ollie had a plan, he always has a plan "So, there is a new bank in New Town, it houses a small amount of old but at the same time is very light guarded" Ollie took a breath" or, today a gold train arrives in New Town, we can intercept it in the hills however it has a lot of guards" he took yet another breath "Which one do you choose?"

Riley Tinker tugged her scarf closer to her face, covering up as best she could. It smelled like trouble. Wrapping her gloved fingers around the grip of her carbine, she pulled down the brim of her hat, joining the crowd headed toward the town hall. As carefully as she could, she activated her gun, hearing the faint hum of electricity within the weapon. No sense going into a bad situation unprepared.

Marlene "Scarlett Rose" Whitley- Ferrum Hotel, Big Iron.

Big Iron was only intended to be a brief stop on Marlene way to New Town to check bounty postings for the area, but traveling from the west had started to fatigue the huntress and she had desired to rest for a day or two before moving on. Marlene held no strong sympathies for the dying town or its inhabitants, but issues with her carriage had extended her stay for longer than she had expected. If those goons from Hover Transporation, Inc. were expecting her to leave in anything besides the comfort she arrived, they would learn what it felt to be shot at by someone who could actually aim their weapon.

Marlene was enjoying her lunch, a fried New Bison steak with some greens, when the horsemen rode into town and had the Mayor blare their demands over a megaphone. Finishing a bite of the steak, she wiped the crumbs off of her mouth before standing up and walking towards the room's small balcony to watch the affair in front of her.

Her rifle sat in a wooden case next to the balcony door. she was half-tempted to uncase the rifle in case shooting would start, but she decided against it as she opened the door and passed it. Leaning on the railing, her eyes quickly adjusted to the warm light of the sun high above her as she waited.

Natalya had rode into town not much earlier that very same day, and was at the saloon when she heard the mayor's call. She finished her whiskey (she had ordered vodka, but they had none) and went outside. It wasn't like she had much else to do anyway. While the cossack girl hadn't been in Big Iron very long, she had had however already found herself a hotel room, a stable for her horse, and even bought a stetson, as the climate here was way too hot for her usual fur hat. It was still evident that she was a foreigner though, as she wore her long cossack coat with pride.

Heading outside, she joined the group of locals who knew the way to the Town Hall. Nat's curiosity had been tickled.

"Mercy Ann Cutler"

At the time of the announcement, Mercy was tended her dining room in the establishment's kitchen; she served as the head chef in addition to its proprietress. She looked out to see that he dining room was about half full. The clientele at this time of day were generally local regulars, most of them just trying to get by; her lunch menu cost much less than dinner, making it more appealing. Most of her business at this time of day, however, came from the adjoining bar room, separated from the dining room by a wall, where several persons were sipping all sorts of alcohol. Business in general had been in decline recently, and she knew the dinner crowd to come would be a shadow of its former self but only a mere year ago even. Ever since the mine dried up, Cutler House had become ever more subsistent on drunks and the ever poorer locals, a fact which Mercy was dismayed to realize.

"Everyone in the town please come to the Town Hall!"

The words uttered from the megaphone of the Mayor, calling everyone to attention. Her customers began to drain from both the dining and bar rooms, and Mercy herself was stirred. Disrobing her apron, she emerged from the kitchen into the dining room, and peered through the window at the ruckus outside. Mercy then left Cutler House, pushed through the group of customers, and proceeded over to Town Hall to hear whatever Mayor Scott had to say. She knew it probably wasn't good news.

"Mr. Mayor!" Mercy yelled as she approached. "What's happened? What's the emergency?"

Andrew Scott

Folks from the town were gathering in the hall, Scott then took voice "So, people, today 4 riders from Hover Transportation Inc. Rode into the town like it was theirs and gave us a day to pack our things and go away, I say we stand our ground and don't let these fools get even an inch of our ground, what do you say folks?"

It would've been easy for Natalya to just leave the city. It wasn't her home, she had no obligation to the people who lived there, or anything else binding her to Big Iron. There were other towns in the West where she was just as safe from the agents of the Russian governor. However, her honour as a cossack didn't allow her to do so. It wouldn't be right. When the mayor finished, she stood up.

"I'm not from around here, so it's not my decision. But if it had been, I would've chosen to fight. And even though I'm a foreigner, I will fight alongside you, if that's what you people decide to do."

Tyranny was a terrible thing, weather it came in the form of a corrupt governor or a greedy railway company, and in both cases, it had to be stopped.

"Mercy Ann Cutler"

Mercy was concerned with the whole affair, for many reason. When the Mayor finished, she planned her response; she knew the mayor well, and she knew his infamous temper. She waited for this Russian girl to answer first, before launching her reply.

"I am all for not letting them take our homes away. But, Andy, I hope you don't imply that we resort to violence! Are there no other ways we can negotiate with these men? Could we not contact the transportation authority to appeal such an action?"

Riley shifted uncomfortably, hearing the crowd murmur and whisper and debate. She knew that she didn't have to stay in this town. She didn't have to stay in any town. She could just walk. Leave civilization behind like she had so many times before, and walk back into the martian wasteland. But... that wasn't a solution, now was it? It didn't solve anything. She could run, like she always had. The crowd seemed split three ways. Some wanted to stand up and fight against the Hover Transportation Inc. Some wanted to leave. Some wanted to try talking. Riley wasn't sure what she thought. She didn't want to run. She'd prefer not to fight. And it sounded like talking had already been tried.

As the crowd of piecemeal inhabitants of Big Iron gathered near the Mayor, a man stood silently near the back. The low-set brim of the wide, dusty-white Stetson, obscured most of the downturned face which even then seemed to shift in the shadow cast. Small tufts of the white fur lining shifted in the Martian zephyrs before the motion carried down into the faded gray dustcoat it was attached to. A high collar poked up from beneath the coat, shielding the face from the elements as yet even more of the figure's visage was hidden from casual observation. As the mayor spoke, the man shifted absent-mindedly without looking up. A small twitch of the hand by the side of the dustcoat and nothing more was the stranger's response to the threat of violence and counteraction on the part of the town. He nodded along only slightly as some voiced their willingness to defend the town, but offered no other support as was his way.

Andrew was very pleased seeing the response of the town, then, Mercy had something to ask

Biscaria wrote:"I am all for not letting them take our homes away. But, Andy, I hope you don't imply that we resort to violence! Are there no other ways we can negotiate with these men? Could we not contact the transportation authority to appeal such an action?"

"I regret to resort to violence but they gave me two options, either I say we go out of the town or they'll take it by force, I chose that they will come, and before our appeal would reach their chefs it would already be too late"

Andrew then took a small sip of whiskey he had near him and continued

"We first need to get supplies from New Town, we have four possible options, the first one is through mountains, but, it's one dangerous and two very hard to traverse, there is the option of going directly to New Town through the desert, but we would risk being overrun by outlaws, we can also go towards Margot Falls and turn at the abandoned 2nd Confederation base and cross the desert there, but, we would risk being attacked by the Aventura brothers and their gang, and finally there is the option of going to Margot Falls and around the desert to first Blueberry and then from there to New Town, but, it's a very long trip and we don't have the time"

Jim "Ithaca" Walker
Jim drove into town, tires leaving marks behind him. He needed to pick up a replacement air filter at the general store. As he drove near the town hall, he could see a whole bunch of people gathered around it. Most of them were armed, so he figured it was possibly something with the railroad. He decided to ask around to find out what was happening. Fortunately for him, his ranch was not in the path of the railroad (for the time being). Still, he didn't like companies or govenrments stepping on the toes of private citizens. He parked. He drew his revolver from it's holster, and checked it. It was loaded, and ready to fire. He holstered it. He reached behind him, to the gun rack in the rear window, and grabbed his antique Ithaca 37 pump shotgun. It was already loaded, but the safety was on, and it was uncocked. Jim was sure to keep the muzzle pointed in a safe direction as he stepped out of the truck, and locked the door behind him. He said loudly,"Does anyone know what in tarnation is going on around here?"
The Internet killed gun control.

"Mayor, pardon my asking," Riley finally said, raising her voice just a little above the low murmur of the crowd, "But you really think people could make it to New Town and back in a day? Now, I may be new around here, but ain't the roads terrible between here and there? I mean, I'd happily go, but we can't send a lot of folks."

Andrew looked at her, now came the worst part, admitting they won't actually be prepared when the attack comes " No, it's not a possibility, we will need to fight off the first attack undersupplied and understaffed, as, these from Hover Transportation will probably want to cut us away from the World, we need to send some people to get supplies and then fight their way into the town"

"Mercy Ann Cutler"

"In that case," said Mercy, responding to the mayor's last declaration. "I'll send out my carriage for supplies. I need to do it for the restaurant anyway, though I usually would wait another week; we'll have more room then for what we need now. We usually send a few guards along with; I'll get Laney on it right away, and go myself so that I know we'll get what we need. While I'm there, I'll lodge an official appeal with Hover Transport too. Just so this won't happen again."

Mercy would also visit her bank in New Town, to ensure that her funds were secure; in case the worst did transpire, she needed to make sure she had enough to start over elsewhere.

"I wish you luck miss Cutler, try to recruit some adventurers or mercenaries in New Town" he then looked around "does any of you have any propositions what we could do before the dawn of the next day starts? He was quite desperate, aside from hiring mercenaries and getting food, ammo and guns he did not had any ideas what to do next

"I like your attitude," said Ollie, "I think it'll be simple, let's go, I have a plan!" Ollie than stood up and took some rocks into his hand "So, here's the plan, we will block the train tracks with something, once the train either derails or stops we fight ourselves in and take what's soon to be ours" Ollie said that dropping the rocks between two lines he made in sand with his boots. He then started walking towards his horse "Quick, we don't have the whole day!"

"So, boss, what exactly is our plan for blockin' them tracks?", he asked.

Ollie got on his horse beside Jack and said to him "Let's get a machine from that builder's camp nearby, sure they are armed, but, I'm sure they won't mind, we are taking it to their own tracks anyway" Ollie said as he got his horse to ride to that exact direction "Everyone, ride behind me!" He shouted to his gang

While they were riding across the desert the faint light of the builder's camp started to show itself, Ollie took out half a dozen bottle's from a pouch that was attached to his horse saddle and rode to Jack "give it to the everyone, we'll need them later" if they were to rob the bank those molotovs would be used as a distraction to the police, to bank security and finally Securitas forces. The worst of them were Securitas, Ollie studied the history of the Old Wild West in the 19th century, so long ago it was, but, he could compare those from Securitas to Pinkerton Agents ( OOC: fun IRL fact, Pinkerton Agency was bought by Securitas )

Jack Dredd

Jack took the bottles, carrying them deftly with one hand. Riding up alongside each gang member in turn, he handed them a bottle, then returned to Ollie's side.

"So, what kinda security we lookin' at for the camp? I'm wonderin' how many bullets to bring.", he asked.

"As much as you can, don't worry, you'll shoot out enough to carry a good sum in gold if everything goes alright," Ollie said "The workers are congregated in their camp like rats, but, unlike rats, they can actually shoot back" Ollie then looked before them the camp was already visible, as well as the sounds of it, it marked that the workers were hard at work probably not with their weapons "We're lucky today" he said to his gang "They won't even suspect us"

Meanwhile at the camp

"Sir, a group of 25 or so riders approaching from the North, I think they are armed" the Head of the camp looked at the man, a young, short and fragile man, many wondered what he was doing in this job, fortunately, people like him were ideal for watch tower's, "How far away?" The man reported "No more than 10 miles Sir" his boss was enraged "You're telling me this now! You'll be lucky to survive the attack, call the alarm and get everyone scrambling, NOW!" Soon a siren went off in the camp and workers dropped their tools was they were and started to run towards the armory, not even half of them would be read for fighting when Ollie and the rest will arrive...
