Image

Welcome to the Commonwealth of Baker Park for the World Lacrosse Championship XXXI, presented by the Universities Athletic Coalition (UAC).
We invite all participants signed up for the tournaments to post their RP's and rosters in this thread. (Please reserve OOC questions/comments to the signup thread)

With 24 participants in this year's tournament, there will be 6 groups of 4 teams each, who will play one another twice. The top 2 finishers in each group will advance to the knockout round, where the top 4 teams will be seeded into the quarterfinals, and the other 8 will be matched up in a first round, based on placing when tiebreakers are factored in-- head to head points, head to head goal difference, goals scored, and overall goal difference, and coin flip (OOC extra tie-breaking match).
There will be no drawn matches during group stage (OT in all matches) and wins will be worth two points while OT losses shall earn one point.

4 pots of six were used to draw groups from, based upon the current WLC rankings.

Head of State Michael Gregson, Prime Minister Rebecca Schoenlein, the Government, and the people of our nation join with the Universities Athletic Coalition in welcoming the visitors and teams from across the multiverse for the 31st World Lacrosse Championships. It's our great privilege to be chosen to host this event in just the third time we have entered.

Centrally located within Atlantian Oceana, Baker Park is one of the top tourist destinations in the region, welcoming nearly 1.9 million visitors per year. Especially in the northern third of the country, outdoor pursuits are most popular among visitors. We have a mostly temperate climate, with autumn and early winter the times of the year when precipitation is heaviest.

Baker Park was established in 1892, and has from its inception been open and inclusive of all people seeking to establish settled lives here; more recently, the country has seen a rise in the number of immigrants from other AO nations and has worked to provide wider access & accommodation to sentient non-human species who have made their home within our borders.

The nation consists of seven constituent states—the State of Baker Park, Endover, Osheana, Ezra, Midalia, St Leon, and Lynchana—each with their own unicameral legislative body and are united as a federal parliamentary democracy; the Parliament consists of the 175 member House of Assembly and the 56 member Council of State.

The engine that drives the country's economy is the industrial conglomerate that was founded by the family that established the nation, the Baker International Corporation. Known by citizens as "The Company" or BI, at one time it was responsible for close to 50% of the nation's GDP; over the past 30 years it has divested itself from many of the companies that dominated the economy, opening up opportunities for more investment and growth for both those entities and competitors alike.

The legal age for consumption or purchase of alcohol is 18, and the sale and use of cannabis is allowed for persons over that age as well, although no importation into the country is permitted—your stash will simply be confiscated and you'll be moved on.
As for other non-prescription drugs, we're not as nice. Possession of Cocaine, Heroin, Methamphetamines, and other 'E' Class drugs (the usual ones that everybody calls "controlled substances") will probably get you—A) deported, if you're lucky; B) incarcerated for up to a year, depending on how much we're talking about; or C) for an amount considered to be likely "an attempt to distribute", about 27 years with no chance for parole, even if your government are really nice and buy $210 million worth of goods from us. We believe that drug addiction is an illness, but we don't believe that drug trafficking is quite the same.

There are legal cannabis dispensaries in most cities; you will need to present your passport, or a government issued identity card with your photo to purchase, and the amount you are permitted to buy is regulated by local ordinance, so ask first what the limit is.

Most bars and pubs have closing time at 3am, and only such establishments that serve food can legally open prior to 11:15 am to serve alcohol.

We have legalized gambling in Baker Park; there is a modern casino downtown in Belle Haven as well as casinos in East Liverpool (just south of Endborough) and suburban Oceana. Prostitution is not illegal, but it's not technically legal either; there are just no uniform laws on the subject. Some local jurisdictions may have ordinances that confine the practice to certain places or certain degrees of "offense", but no legal entity is permitted to make prostitution or solicitation more than a minor misdemeanor.

Violent crime is extremely rare in the Commonwealth. There is a higher chance you will fall off a subway platform than be assaulted or robbed with a firearm, and we take pride in the safety of our subways systems.

Travel in Baker Park is easy and safe due to the modern mass transportation infrastructure that the country has built over the last 60 years. Connections to major cities are available via rail, road, plane or ferry. Rental cars are available at relatively modest prices as competition is fierce among rental firms; almost any type of vehicle you might wish to hire is available, as the Commonwealth automobile market is made up of about 35% imports, so you'll find about any make or model you could imagine.

You'll probably notice that we have a bit of Victoriana fetish here in Baker Park. You can't miss it even if you're only halfway paying attention. We have parks, buildings, bars, restaurants, streets and anything else you can think of named for Victoria, or some kind of reference to her.

Brief notes on the venues to be used for the WLC:

Belle Haven is the national capital of the Commonwealth; with a metro area population of over 5.6 million, it is also the largest city, the financial, entertainment, and cultural center of the country, and more than likely your first stop on your trip to Baker Park. Belle Haven International Airport (BHX) serves 41 foreign & domestic carriers and accommodates over 900 takeoffs and departures per day. The airport is approximately 18 miles south of the city center, and there are numerous ground transportation options for arriving visitors at Belle Haven International. Three venues will be hosting matches.

Image

Sportsmen's Park, Belle Haven--capacity 39,000
Matches hosted: Semi-Finals & the 3rd Place Playoff and Final
Opened in 1921, Sportsmen's Park was the largest stadium in the country for much of its first 45 years, and hosted many significant milestones in sport--the first nationwide radio broadcast of a sporting event, the first sporting event played under floodlights (until 1946 it was the only stadium in the country with lights), the first televised sporting event, and the first international soccer match played in the Commonwealth, to name just a few.

Image

The University Stadium, Belle Haven--capacity 23,000
Matches hosted: Group A (MD1), Group B (MD4), Group C (MD5), playoff 1stR
The University of Baker Park is the oldest institution of higher education in the Commonwealth, and the stadium is the oldest permanent sports structure, also. Completed in 1920, expanded in 1949, and again in 1977, it has hosted the UAC Lacrosse National Championship finals on 5 occasions.
Transportation: literally across the street from Belle Haven's Central Station, and accessible via pedestrian walks to the Light Rail electric trolley system connecting downtown Belle Haven to the campus.

Image

Hillsborough Stadium, Belle Haven--capacity 17,500
Matches hosted: Group D (MD4), Group E (MD1), Group F (MD6), playoff 1stR
Having hosted tens of thousands of sporting events through its' history, "The Hill" may be the most used venue in the Commonwealth. Spectators lucky enough to get certain seats in the Main Stand or the East Terrace are treated to spectacular views of the skyline of the nation's largest city off in the distance.
Transportation: on the Blue Line subway route, connections to downtown and beyond.

Northfield Borough and its "twin" Ridgedale comprise another one of Baker Park's anomalous political units, the loosely defined "big borough". There is nothing that a person from outside would recognize as a downtown, or central business district. Formerly the main hamlets of the two were about 4 miles apart, but gradually they filled in the space between them; today the area has about 115,000 residents, split pretty equally between the two.

Image

Loren Abernathy Stadium, Northfield Borough--capacity 11,500 (temporary seating up to 14,000)
Matches hosted: Group A (MD2), Group B (MD5), Group C (MD4)
Abernathy Stadium is home to the teams of Commonwealth Methodist University, as well as Nor-Dale AFC, and CMU has agreed to co-host the matches here with Belle Haven State University. Completed in 1950 and renovated in the 1980's prior to CMU achieving full membership in the UAC, the stadium has a significant pedigree in hosting lacrosse at the collegiate, junior college and high school levels.

Kellerville was a sleepy, rural county seat until the early 1960's, when the expressway came through, which spurred growth in industry and led to the elevation of Kellerville State University from agricultural extension college to full 4 year status in 1973. Population is approximately 85,000.

Image

Princess Helena Park, Kellerville, Midalia--capacity 11,867 (temporary seating up to 14,000)
Matches hosted: Group D (MD3), Group E (MD2), Group F (MD5)
Completed in it's current configuration in 1972 & dedicated to Princess Helena, wife of the 2nd Prince Regent of the Commonwealth, Prince William I; also mother to the two sons who succeeded their father--Prince Robert and Prince William II--and grandmother to the then reigning Prince Regent, Prince Daniel.
She was ranked as one of the 10 most influential people in the history of Baker Park at the 75th Anniversary Jubilee in 1967.

Ezriquay is the fourth largest city and capital of Ezra; situated on a peninsula formed by the last major bend in the Belle Haven River, it's often referred to as "The Thumb". Much more industrialized than the first three cities, it has more blue-collar feel to it. The matches here will take place across the river, to the west of the city in the suburb of University Park.

Image

Alumni Stadium, University Park, Ezra--capacity 25,000
Matches hosted: Group A (MD4), Group B (MD3), Group C (MD1), quarterfinal
Technically the second oldest stadium in the country--original construction completed in 1921 just prior to Sportsmen's Park--it's the home of the football, soccer and rugby teams for the University of Ezra; the actual field is the same piece of ground that the first Ezra-Osheana football game in 1911 was played on.

Coolville is the capital of Midalia state and the fifth largest city in Baker Park. The citizens have a bit of an identity crisis, with the other main towns in the state (St Warren & Kellerville) and their down-river neighbors Shirley all having less than positive feelings for them. One of the two major cities (Lima being the other) in the Chemical and synthetic products industry. Can be reached by air via Shirley's airport (45 minutes).

Image

State College Stadium, Coolville, Midalia--capacity 26,000
Matches hosted: Group D (MD1), Group E (MD3), Group F (MD4), quarterfinal
Home of Coolville State University's teams, the venue is actually being made available for their crosstown rival University of Coolville as hosts; U of C's own stadium, Laidley Field, has an artificial surface, which the UAC was trying to avoid using. SCS was originally constructed in 1947 and expanded and updated in 1998.

Marshallton is the largest metro area in Lynchana, with over 300,000 residents within the town and surrounding suburbs. Like the rest of the state, and neighboring St Leon, mining & drilling are the major source of employment & wealth for the area. The Commonwealth's emerging winter resort industry is bringing new opportunities to the region as well.

Image

Municipal Stadium, Marshallton, Lynchana--capacity 15,700
Matches hosted: Group D (MD2), Group E (MD6), Group F (MD3), playoff 1stR
Opened in 1948 and the home of the Marshallton University and Marshallton Athletic SC, the stadium has excellent sightlines and is one of the easiest stadiums in the country to travel to.

Oceana is the capital of Osheana, and the third largest city. It has always had a reputation as being the "anti-Belle Haven", due to its more conservative outlook and tradition; it was the home base of the former Northern States Company, who were the second largest business venture in the country. Two venues will be used here.

Image

Selvey Commons, Oceana, Osheana--capacity 12,000 (temporary seating up to 15,500)
Matches hosted: Group A (MD3), Group B (MD2), Group C (MD6)
Another example of the strange pattern of building, rebuilding and adding onto sports facilities that seems particular to the Osheana state capital, Selvey Commons eventually evolved into the open ended horseshoe that it is today about 1964; home of the University of Oceana, its extremely high sided stands bring spectators close to the playing surface.

Image

Mann/Stevens/Ewing Stadium, Oceana, Osheana--capacity 14,800
Matches hosted: Group A (MD5), Group B (MD6), Group C (MD2), playoff 1stR
an open air, oval stadium with a full running track, the stadium of Osheana Capital University has seen better days. The WLC may be one of its final events, as there is a strong movement to construct a new on-campus venue.

Lima is the country's 13th largest city (pop 223,000) & has long called itself the Capital of the North. An important center for several major industries (forestry/paper products, petroleum, chemicals), the state established its first branch of the University of Baker Park here in 1919.

Image

Lions Stadium, Lima BP--capacity 26,500
Matches hosted: Group A (MD6), Group B (MD1), Group C (MD3), quarterfinal
Constructed in 1937 and expanded in 1968, Lions Stadium has served the Northern Baker Park State University well over the years; considered one of the best grass surfaces in the nation.

Endborough is the Commonwealth's Second City, located in the northeastern part of the country. It is the state capital of Endover and the home of the nation's top institution of higher education, the University of Endover. Much of the state beyond the city is pristine wilderness, with the Lake District one of most popular family vacation destinations.

Image

Ludlow Road Park, Endborough, Endover--capacity 14,000
Matches hosted: Group D (MD5), Group E (MD4), Group F (MD1), quarterfinal
The University of Endborough has been one of the marquee programs in the sport over the past several seasons, and Ludlow Road hosted National Team matches during WLC XXX. Construction was completed in 1938 and the ground was enlarged in 1972. East Endborough AFC plays home matches for both their men's and women's here as well.

Hannover's loss was Springfield's gain when the Northern States Railway chose a more northerly route for the cross-country main line. Prior to then, it had been a hub for the farming and agriculture sector. It still continues to be a player in the agri-business model, as the town's 98,000 residents maintain a relatively high standard of living.

Image

Fritz Schafer Stadium, Hannover, BP--capacity 14,000
Matches hosted: Group D (MD6), Group E (MD5), Group F (MD2)
The only stadium used in this WLC that has no connection with a university, "the Fritz" is no stranger to hosting the sport; the local area is a stronghold for lacrosse, and the stadium has been a venue for both UAC playoff matches as well as Baker Park Secondary School Interscholastic Activities Association championship playoffs. The home of Hannover United FC was built in 1966.

After the failures of the 28th and 29th World Lacrosse Championships, and especially the 29th edition where Banija got eliminated in the group stages of the WLCs for the first time ever, everything was torn down. The Olympic Committee of Banija seized control, and voted the sport's independent governing body(a rarity in Banija) out of existence. Various reforms were introduced. Chief among them- rid themselves of those who failed. The entire coaching staff was purged, and with it, not a single player who was on the WLC 28 or 29 roster was invited back to form the WLC 30 roster. Those high up in Banija called the WLC 29 group stage elimination, on home soil, of a nation that considered themselves an international lacrosse powerhouse an 'absolute embarassment to the country' and vowed for deep reforms to ensure that this did not ever happen again.

This, of course, happened before the 30th WLCs, in Cassadaigua. The Banijans were able to escape the group stage, once again, but fell to an ancient power in this sport- Sarzonia, by a score of 10-9, in the Round of 16. It was followed by a disappointing entry at the Champions Challengers Cup, where they fell to both Baker Park and Sarzonia in West Guiana, to finish 0-2. While the club game is healthy, with Bunyoro RSC as the defending champions of the IDLO Champions Cup, they will continue to try and make more forward progress, hoping to firmly re-establish themselves as contender for the sport's most prestigious trophy.

Group Stage Schedule
(TBA)

Home Stadia
Kizza I Field
Image
Capacity of 33,000. Located in Herzegovina City, Moravica
A specialty lacrosse stadium, it was built at the cost of $115 million NSDs, and funded by the local government. The Herzegovina City Kings, Banija's most popular lacrosse team, play their home games at this stadium. It is Banija's largest lacrosse-specific stadium. It is named after Kizza I, the first chief of the Kisanke, and who's direct descendants would eventually become the Kings of Banija. Hosted the 28th WLC Final. Hosted the 3rd IDLO Champions Cup Final. This will host all of Banija's home matches except for the home opener.

Northern Moravica Lacrosse Arena
Image
Capacity of 4,500. Located on the Northern Moravica University campus in Herzegovina City, Moravica, Banija
Banija's first lacrosse stadium was built on the campus of Northern Moravica University. It is hosting games not because of it's size, as it is easily the smallest stadium on this list, but it's role in the history of Banijan lacrosse. This is the facility the national team uses to make camp before major tournaments, and where college lacrosse used to have their annual championship game. It is called the "spiritual home" of Banijan lacrosse. Like the last three tournaments, the Banijan national team will play one game here- their home opener.

Cosumar National Lacrosse Team - WLC XXXI
Roster and Information
Image

Team Information

Nation - The Fiefdom of Cosumar

Team Name - Azure Dragons

Demonym - Cosumarite

Team Colors - Navy, Silver, Royal Blue, White

Headquarters - Centus, Gellano Fief, Cosumar

Home Stadium - CosumaQuest Stadium (68,000)

Team Style - Highly Offensive (for IC purposes)

Experience - Cosumar debuted in WLC 8 and over twenty editions later, we have built a reputation as one of the premier lacrosse nations in multiverse: with a strong domestic league (the CLL) and a record nine WLC medals. Cosumar won back-to-back WLC titles in the 20th and 21st editions but crashed out early in WLC 22. They bounced back to claim a silver medal in WLC 23, a bronze in WLC 24 and finally another gold in WLC 26. Our most recent medal came in WLC 29, when we made it to our second consecutive Third Place Game, winning a bronze medal to avenge our loss to St Saratoga at the same stage in WLC 28. This time, Cosumar will be looking to hold off Sarzonia (8) and maintain sole possession of the total medals record (9).

Domestic Lacrosse - Lacrosse was an obscure sport in Cosumar 30+ years ago, but has since risen rapidly to become the fourth spectator sport here behind only association/gridiron football and basketball. International success got people invested in the sport and its players, and then the CLL (Cosumarite Lacrosse League) arrived on the scene to profit from the burgeoning interest. The fledgling league has since exploded to 28 teams and become a destination for top players around the lacrosse world. Stayed tuned to the Cosumar newswire for the latest season's results (linked here soon). Cosumar has also hosted the WLC in the past.

Coaches & Staff

Head Coach - Tracy Sheppard
Sheppard was the greatest Cosumarite lacrosse player of all time. He helped popularize the sport across the Fiefdom with his marketable boyish good looks and incredible skill with the stick. Sheppard's records for appearances, goals and assists for Cosumar in the WLC will likely never be broken, as he captained the team for over fifteen years. He had since transitioned seamlessly into an assistant coaching role and was a no-brainer to replace 74-year-old Duke McDougle following the longtime head coach's retirement this year.

Assistant Coach - Brett Pollard

Goalkeepers Coach - Tavil Pipperman

Defenders Coach - Mauricio Villanueva

Midfielders Coach - Austin Von Grisse

Attackers Coach - Jacques Archambault

Strength and Fitness Coach - Malik Nezhad

Style: 0 (balanced between attack-minded and defensive)
Home grounds: Franz Braddock Stadium in Woodstock, capacity 35,000.
Please note: This team is renowned for its fair play. If you attack first, it will retaliate, but it will not initiate a fight.

OOC: I RP using real time in most of my RPs, so in Sarzonia, it’s only been about five months since the last World Lacrosse Championships.

Coach: Carter Whitlock (37 years old)
Sarzonia’s greatest lacrosse player and the first Sarzonian nominated for the Lacrosse Hall of Fame, Whitlock assumes the coaching reins from Mike Sandusky. An illustrious playing career that led to five World Lacrosse Championship titles and eight medals overall has Sarzonian lacrosse fans optimistic that Whitlock can recapture the magic from the sidelines he so often helped to create on the field.
Defensive Coordinator: Bill Harbour (36 years old)
A teammate of Whitlock’s, Harbour’s defence was critical for the Stars in their last WLC final, when they defeated Delaclava 14-8 in Licentiapacisterra nearly five years ago. He signed on as an assistant coach after his playing career came to an end.
Offensive Coordinator: Tyler Pawlenty (50 years old)
Pawlenty helped mold offenses in college, in particular Rypien State College during a four-year period when that school won three collegiate national titles. His teams emphasise possession and patience, often including multiple passes before taking the perfect shot.
Assistant Coach: George Tomlin (34 years old)
Tomlin recently retired as a faceoff specialist after a collegiate career that saw him win 78 percent of his faceoffs. During his professional career in Sarzonia, he won 69 percent of his faceoffs. He can coach multiple styles of faceoffs, taking into account multiple fogos.
Assistant Coach: Bradley Morse (54 years old)
Serves as goalie coach. He helped several Sarzonian World Lacrosse Championship winning teams with goalies in an informal capacity. Now, he's coming out of retirement to provide assistance as a paid full-time coach after Whitlock convinced him to do so.

Starting 10:
G: Marla Wynne - 5-foot-8, 145 pounds, 33 years old
D: Bruce Taylor - 6-foot-2, 205 pounds, 23 years old
D: Landon Bransen - 6-foot-1, 220 pounds, 25 years old
D: Joe Mueller - 6-foot-1, 215 pounds, 26 years old
LSM: Khalid al Batani - 6-foot-3, 185 pounds, 33 years old
M: Brad Conner - 6-feet, 190 pounds, 24 years old
M: Peyton Christianson - 6-foot-1, 195 pounds, 28 years old
A: Matt Archer - 5-foot-9, 215 pounds, 29 years old
A: Brett Hedrick - 6-foot-3, 210 pounds, 25 years old
A: Byron Dylan - 5-foot-8, 170 pounds, 29 years old
FO/GO: Jon Austin - 5-foot-10, 185 pounds, 30 years old
First WCC Grand Slam Champion
NSWC Hall of Fame Inductee (post-World Cup 25)
Former WLC President. He/him/his.

DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC OF ABANHFLEFT
NATIONAL LACROSSE TEAM

This will be Abanhfleft's tenth time participating in the World Lacrosse Championship. Has it really been ten editions since the Fleftics' debut? Time sure does fly fast. For reasons that can be simply summed up as "it's the best thing we've done in a while," the Democratic Republic sent forth their women's national lacrosse team for their first seven appearances in the competition. The women's team, led by the "Fearsome Threesome" of Menan Alrisheb, Fatima Alsambis, and Cecilia Cuvimi, managed to win third place in their first ever tournament WLC XIX, beating the Serbian Empire to nab the bronze from under the veteran nation's noses. They went on to win back-to-back titles in WLC 22 and WLC 23 before a miserable performance in WLC 24 saw them eliminated in the group stage, but they have come back to win it all once again in WLC 25 to set history as the first nation to win three titles in four attempts. It was then decided that it was time to switch things up, and so for the first time in WLC history, Abanhfleft sent forth a mixed team of men and women to play international lacrosse in WLC 30. And they came close, but were still unable to snag the ultimate prize, losing to the eventual winners Wrexwic in the final. Now, with Wrexwic out of the way, Abanhfleft will hope to improve yet again upon their WLC 30 performance with a title win. For the fans!

The history of lacrosse in Abanhfleft is both long and short, in that it has been in the country for a long time, but a concise summary of said history can be written down in just ten to fifteen sentences or maybe more. Lacross was introduced in Abanhfleft by vacationing Canadian college students and expatriates who missed playing the game. The first truly Fleftic lacrosse players came from association football and field hockey backgrounds, and these players played in seasonal lacrosse clubs to augment their salaries during their respective sports' offseasons. The first national lacrosse league in Abanhfleft was established in 1929, and was composed of 7 teams coming from the Capital Islands. The Fleftic national lacrosse league system adopted its current franchise format in 2001, with the National League (now called the Lacrosse League of Abanhfleft) separating itself from the pyramid and becoming an independent organization of its own right. The Fleftic Lacrosse Federation (Samahang Lakros ng Abanhfleft or SLA) was established in 1930 to manage the leagues, and to see to the creation of a national team. The Abanhfleft men's national lacrosse team played its first game in 1931, where they lost 1-0 to a team of Montreal college players.

1963 saw the first attempts to introduce women's lacrosse into Abanhfleft. Women's lacrosse had vastly different rules from men's lacrosse, and while these programs saw some success in the mid-sixties, Fleftic women decided that the rules of women's lacrosse were "too soft," and simply adopted the rules of men's lacrosse. When the women's national lacrosse team played its first games in 1969, they surprised many other teams with their extremely aggressive style of play, the likes of which were more usually seen in men's lacrosse games. This led to many incidents of broken legs, broken arms, broken ribs, broken jaws, and so on and so forth. Eventually, the SLA established another women's team, this one focusing on women's lacrosse rules. Teams playing Abanhfleft are well-advised to treat the women like men because the girls will certainly treat their opponents like Fleftic men.

They have won three World Lacrosse Championships, winning in WLC 22, 23, and 25. Starting in WLC 26, the team entered a rebuilding stage in which it maintained its ranking in the multiverse as much as possible without really challenging for the title. But in WLC 30, the SLA declared the rebuilding done, and the national team backed up this announcement with a deep playoff run that went all the way to the final, where they were unfortunately stopped by Wrexwic. But as had been said before, with Wrexwic now inexplicably out of the way, Abanhfleft sets its eyes once again on the gold. Will this team finally be able to win it? Or will they have to wait once again?

Head Coach: Watch this space

Assistant Coach - Tactics: Tim Blyther (52, male)
Blyther is an Australian who played lacrosse in Abanhfleft's Lacrosse Premier League for almost fifteen years, eventually retiring in 2009 with five championships under his belt. Blyther is also a fan of association football, and was the mastermind of adapting some of that's sports tactics into lacrosse, and this combination of lacrosse and football helped lead the Releinthi Fighting Sticks to three consecutive championships in the Lacrosse Premier League. Being the inventor and innovator of FootCrosse (the combination of football and lacrosse tactics), Blyther was invited by the FFoL to be both national teams' tactics coach, but this will be the first time that FootCrosse will be seen on the world stage, and how Abanhfleft will perform in this tournament will determine the viability of FootCrosse on the international lacrosse scene.

Assistant Coach - Training: Chan Lua (66, male)
A popular aerobics instructor back in the 1980s, Chan Lua was hired by the FFoL in 2012 for a yearly salary of 2 million new penenks, one of the largest yearly salaries ever in the federation. Lua's job will be to increase and enhance the players' fitness levels. Lua's hiring, which had been a controversial decision at the time, eventually paid off when both national teams' starting lineups lasted much longer on the field than their opponents. Observers keen to gauge this side will look to Lua's contributions to the effectiveness of the national side. In his spare time, when he is not the fitness coach of the Fleftic women's national lacrosse team, he is the fitness coach of the Fhulghamous Peninsula national football team.

Colors: All white with blue, orange, and green stripes on the waistline and yellow numbers in a red circle (home kit); all red with yellow letters and numbers (away kit)
Style: Abanhfleft is an attacking team. The legacy of football and hockey players dabbling in lacrosse in its early days in Abanhfleft has resulted in a playing style that emphasizes getting the ball up front for chances to score. This, however, leaves the defense a bit thin, as at least two midfielders join the attackers in forays up to the goal, leaving behind only the defenders and the keeper. The midfield makes up for this by rushing back to their positions as soon as the opponents have acquired the ball.

HOME STADIUM
Image
The Imponte Garden in Kammala, Garufaloe Province, home of the Garufaloe Cobras of the FNLAF, will be playing host to the Fleftic national lacrosse team's home matches. It has an official capacity of 51,000 people, and while attendance regularly exceeds that figure thanks to a rabid fanbase for American football, and people prefer to stand up or sit on the stairs whenever capacity is filled, the organizers are not sure if this capacity will be filled for lacrosse matches, as it simply does not have the same pull as American football, association football, or even rugby union.

Saratogan Saints Roster - WIP

Postby St Saratoga » Thu Jun 27, 2019 1:18 pm

Saratoga "Saints" National Lacrosse Club

“I don’t know what happened. We did everything we should to prepare for the [World Lacrosse] Championship. Communication on the field was good. We had the right mentality and the boys were fired up for this. It just wasn’t our year.” Said Co-Captain Dominic Fitzgerald directly after the Saints upset elimination from the World Lacrosse Championship group stage.

The Saints, after missing out on the 30th World Lacrosse Championship in Cassadaigua, spent the time off retooling the roster. The Saints lack their performance in the lack of depth. Although the talent of the roster is top 10 in the world, the teams lacks the endurance to compete against teams like Wrexwic, Cosumar and Abanhfleft. The team also made changes to its front office, Quinn Williamson has taken over full-time status, leaving the Coaching position vacant. As Owner, Williamson created the positions of General Manager, Assistant General Manager, Chief Financial Officer and Chief Executive Officer. Williamson then soon announce afterwards announced the following hirings; CEO/General Manager Joseph Moore, Assistant General Manager Aaron Martin, Chief Financial Officer Freddy Crawford and Head Coach William Toivonen. All the newly hired individuals have been working in the field of sports for majority of their lives, both as players and executives. The front office’s main objective in the next few years is to increase the teams revenue though season tickets holders and fundraising.

With the first office revamped, the administration gave their blessing for General Manager Moore, Assistant GM Martin and Head Coach Toivonen to make any changes to the roster. Their biggest goal, which was laid out in a press conference, was to bring some youth to the team. The Saints were fielding one of the oldest teams on the league averaging 31. The team has called up the following players and provided these brief summaries of some of the key players:

Mickey Wright – Mickey was one of the top goal scores in the Saratogan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (SIAA). As a freshmen he received the Freshmen of the Year award, got 4 straight years of 1st Team All-Saratogan and received a 3.67 GPA with a bachelors in Athletic Administration. He was drafted 1st overall by the Superior Raiders. As a Raider, Wright spent a year in development in the Saratogan Amateur Lacrosse League before being called up to play with the Raiders for his second season. Wright was the leading goal-scorers for the Raider who lost in the semi-finals to the Rogerbei Lighting, Wright was awarded the Rookie of the Year award prior to being called up to the Saratogan National team.

Jeff Pemberton – Jeff Pemberton was draft 52nd overall by the Rogerbei Lighting. Pemberton served two years in the Saratogan Amateur Lacrosse League to develop. He spent earned multiple awards while in the SALL and was called up to serve as a key player in the Lightings championship run.

Also called up is Bill Russel, Devon Fiddler, Carter Giehl, Olly Tritten, Cole Scott, Leopold Haines, Martin Beck, Pierce Collins and Benjamin Thomson.

The Commonwealth of Baker Park will compete for the third time in the World Lacrosse Championships, and proudly host their competitors in the tournament for the first time.
The sport has a long history in Baker Park as a women's team activity, accepted by the Universities Athletic Coalition for varsity status in 1936; it has long been dominated by the smaller member schools of the UAC that didn't sponsor football as well as being a rare outlet for 2 year colleges to compete against full degree granting institutions on a level playing field.

Combined the three have won 8 National Championships between them, and former national team defender Shannon Fries completes the staff. 10 players in the squad will be making their 4th appearance on the National Team, which includes the previous 2 WLC's and the Olympics.

Predictions and Contradictions: Looking at the WLC Groups

AIRPORT LOUNGE IN T.V. CITY, QASDEN

by Darren S

As per usual, the AOCAF tournament proved to be too much for our Blue-Reds, further salting the wounds in our dire relationships with both the competition and one of its hosting nations, Baker Park. "Never again", the few bitter Qads would say in memory of the catastrophic defeat in Belle Haven many moons ago. Following Qasden's heart-wrenching defeat at the hands of Saltstead, many fans turned to posting angry tweets blaming the host nation for being overall "bad luck" for the team, some going as far to start a #BoycottBakerPark trend on social media.

Yet, here we are. Or will be, whenever my flight to Ezra arrives.

Despite the continued failures provided by Qasden's football program, the Vans return to elk-loving nation under the guise of lacrosse, a sport whose 31st tournament will crown a new champion following the decision by the title's incumbents, Wrexwic, to not attempt a 3-peat. As the only bidding nation, Baker Park opted to broadcast the event over a potential 3rd Open Cup, which has since been postponed indefinitely. While the Wasps aren't fighting, it doesn't mean the contest will be boring at all. In fact, of the 24 competing nations in attendance, a third of them are represented in the multiversal Top 10, including names such as Cosumar, Sarzonia, and the feared losers of Qasden. In light of the tournament, a few employees here at QADANS decided to put together an overview of each group and their predictions on who's moving forward.

Image

Group A features the likes of Natanians and Nosts, Bolgano, St. Saratoga, and the hosts themselves, Baker Park. Already, there's a huge rift that can be detected between the latter teams and the initial teams, with the rank difference between the hosts and N&N being a deadly 18 spots. If we went on this and this alone, it'd be pretty clear to believe that St. Saratoga and Baker Park would make quick work of their opponents, securing the top 2 spots and guaranteeing themselves positions in the knockouts. Yet even with that analysis, it should be criminal to underrate the efforts of new teams. Wrexwic was able to defy all odds and reach the championship in it's debut a mere 3 contests ago, and was able to fully secure titles in both Banijazen and Cassadaigua. In this group, Bolgano has already shown it's eagerness to become a dominant force, having university programs help shape a formidable squad capable of topping it's ranked adversaries. Will that succeed? According to some randos in our breakroom who watch lacrosse, there's a good chance the newbies could surprise people and snatch a Top 2 spot, or at least make a qualifying 3rd place performance.

Prediction: Baker Park, St. Saratoga, and Bolgano qualify

Image

Just existing at the same time as this group is painful. A heavily lopsided Group B will display showcases between Xanneria, Lashnakia, Lochario, and the all-time lacrosse warlords, Cosumar. It's no doubt that the Azure Dragons aren't hesitant about thrashing their opponents, having taken medals in the top 3 on 9 occasions, the most of any nation in the multiverse. Now, that isn't to say they aren't beatable in the tournament, but the other teams will have a much tougher time trying to snag 1st place. For one thing, Group B consists of 2 debuting nations as opposed to 1, with them being Xanneria and Lashnakia. But to show another reason to our exaggeration of Cosumar's potential success here, the only other ranked opponent, Lochario, straddles itself in 19th, 16 ranks below that of Cosumar. So what if we take these blue bastards out of the picture? Well, the remaining 3 will have a tough time competing with each other as well, but we can try and say optimistic things towards our newcomers here since, y'know, we already mentioned Wrexwic.

Prediction: Cosumar, Xanneria, and Lochario qualify

Image

Our group, woop dee doo. Group C will foresee the road to Belle Haven for South St. Maarten, Banija, Terre Septentrionale (or Northern Land, will just call them Northern Land), and least importantly, Qasden. Like Group B, Group C features a double debutant status, with both SSM and Northern Land entering the coliseum for the first time. On the contrary, both the Banijans and Qads are well seasoned in the lacrosse universe, having both hosted tournaments and tasting victory at some point along their journey. Alongside the achievements, both the Lions(?) and Vans currently find themselves in the Top 10. Of course, the Vans are always prone to losing, so it wouldn't be shocked that they'd break off from their supposed prestige. Meanwhile, Northern Land and South St. Maarten have shown some initial potential, with Northern Land themselves being viewed as a potential threat further in the game

Prediction: Banija, Qasden, and Northern Land qualify

Image

Group D contains West Phoenicia, Sarzonia, Shatla and Huri de Wintre, a fairly decent group capable of making headlines. Of it's top 2, Sarzonia has seen much more history in lacrosse, having taken medals on 8 occasions with 5 of them being gold, 2 more than that of the East AO titans, Cosumar. While not having as much success as the Sarzonians, West Phoenicia is no stranger to the competition itself, frequently making the knockout stages to the point that it seems criminal that they have yet to strike victory. Perhaps this could be their time, but even then, it's hard not to overlook Shatla and HdW. In fact, Huri de Wintre had previously made the championships on a sole occasion, falling to Qasden in WLC 27 (woo). While it may be true the the eels haven't done much since then, plummeting to a 7-way share of 28th place, it doesn't mean that they won't ever find a resurgence among their community.

Prediction: Sarzonia and West Phoenicia qualify

Image

Next up, we've got a group that could deserve a good tuning in by the community. Indeed, Group E will be waving the respective flags of Busoga Islands, Pius Desurongcrandis, Velestria, and the highest-ranked squad in Baker Park, Vangaziland. In recent tournaments, the purple and red-loving Royals have shown tremendous force and desire to become the next big dynasty in lacrosse history. Of the 3 previous showcases, Vangaziland has taken medals at 2 of them, with a gold in Banija28 and a bronze in Cassadaigua30. With this sudden strength it's no doubt the 2nd ranked nation has the highest odds in winning this tournament, even more likely than seasoned veterans like Cosumar and Sarzonia. So, if we could all but guarantee the #1 spot to VNG, where does that leave the rest of the teams? Well, Velestria would be the only ranked nation left, finding themselves fighting with the absent Cheergirls for 13th. Considering the latter stunned everyone with a 4th place finish at the last tournament, it'd be interesting to see how the Velestrians would tackle opponents with an equal, if not, greater power.

Prediction: Vangaziland, Velestria, and Pius Desurongcrandis qualify

Image

Last, but certainly not least, is the surprisingly competitive Group F, featuring names such as Cassadaigua, Abanhfleft, East Tennessee Smoky Mountains, and Northwest Kalactin. Off the bat, the Fleftic squad is already one of the most feared names in the sport. Maybe not yet Cosumar-level fearing, but still not someone to brush off. At the moment, Abanhfleft hosts 5 medalled performances, 60% of which are 2 ranks above bronze. Coming off a championship appearance from last cycle (falling to Wrexwic, unfortunately), this team could give scares to those slightly above them, heck, maybe even take the trophy once again. We shouldn't shy away from their first fights, though, as the Cassadaiguans also sport some silverware of their own. Yep, a whole bronze medal, earned waaaay back in WLC 3 with a narrow win over Taeshan. Ok, that came off a little harsh, but for reals, the pink power has run strong in both the past and present, even making their way to 20th place upon their return. As for the other 2? Northwest Kalactin has shown rather standard performances in previous engagements, while ETSM is entirely new. What does this mean? Nobody really knows. I don't even know, though that's not a surprise.

Prediction: Abanhfleft and Cassadaigua qualify

So there we have it, folks. Will these predictions live up to their full expectations? I highly doubt it, since people in the workplace actually thought Qasden would do well across the river. Either way, my flight's here, so I gotta cut this off so I can enjoy those tiny glasses of alcohol they give you in business. Will they have pretzels too? Only one way to find out, so stay tuned, stay updated, and stay alert for future QADANS reports from unlucky Baker Park!

There has been renowned interest in the sport of Lacrosse across the Confederate Empire of West Phoenicia after the men's lactose tram; the Daredevils pulled out all the tricks to pull in a silver Demostration medal at the XIII Republica, The Free Republics Summer Olympics.

It was the confidence boost the team needed as they sailed through the event only be to be defeated by arch rival nation Vangaziland 4-10. While the loss against their rivals caused mild humiliation, the ability and talent and team work was embraced and celebrated as an achiement for reaching so far.
Team Manager Sunny Singh is hoping the confidence boost is still present as they go into the World
Lacrosse Championships where the results have been as lackluster in the past.

Since the Olympics interest in lacrosse has grown.
The West Phoenician Lacrosse League which is comprised of 20 teams across the empire has boasted a 25% increase in attendance at matches, the highest being in city-state such as Immaculta, Autumn Falls, New Tudor, St Mary's, East Eden, Yule Island and Druidia where upper class universities all have university lacrosse leagues that are extremely popular. As well as
Democratic Kingdom of Antebelluma and Theocracy of Ardon two nations in the Empire where the sport is popular. It is in these areas where membership is high and pull in big turn outs for the West Phoenician Lacrosse League.
The Daredevils need to pull off a miracle win to start drawing in other citizens from around the Empire. The stigma at the moment is that lacrosse is a niche sport in the nation played by the rich and spoiled like other sports such as Polo, Equestian and Rowing.

WP Sports 2 which airs on channel 7 has purchased the rights to the World Lacrosse Championship. WP Sports 2 is devoted those sports deemed minor sports in West Phoenicia, sports like Lacrosse, Handball, Equestian and Diving.

The first match so see West Phoenicia going up against Huri de Wintre.
Team Manager Sunny Singh and the West Phoenician Lacrosse Federation is calling all citizens to come out and support the team. A sausage sizzle has been planned before the match and lolly bags and sweet for children.

The Patriarch Mabuza II, of Herzegovina, was an old man. 87 years old, he had been in charge of the church for the last 17 years, as they had weathered several storms. They had survived the Mutebi era relatively unscathed- there was no backlash against the church in Banija after many of the clergy and the religious had allied themselves with a man who turned out to be one of, if not the singular, worst Katikkiros in the history of this country. And then, however, he was worried at the rising of Kizza Makoni as the next Katikkiro, after direct rule from Kabaka Albert III.

As with all Patriarchs, he lived in the Herzegovina Temple- the largest building in Herzegovina City, and, of course, the center cathedral of the universal Mormon church. Built in Herzegovina City, on the sight where the golden plates were found many generations ago, it was the holiest site in the faith, and as the Custodian of the Holy of Holies, he was permitted to live in the building. There had been a lot he had done since he was Patriarch. He, of course, was there for the succession of a Banijan monarch from one to the next. He had overseen the establishment of formal churches in a number of communities abroad, most specifically in New Istria, Darmen, and in West Bay, Damukuni. Growth for the church, not lots of internal strife- what more could he want?

And yet, at 87, he was an old man. But that wasn’t on his mind at that moment. He was headed to the annual budget meeting- not the budget meeting for the whole church, which involved many bishops and accountants and even government officials, but simply, the budget meeting specifically for the Herzegovina Temple. Far less to consider, and therefore, it could be a relatively small meeting. There were only 5 people involved in this meeting. The temple’s apostolic administrator, who ran the church’s day to day affairs. The Temple’s Accountant, the Chairman of the council of the faithful, and the head of the Temple’s Security Services would all be there.

He walked into the meeting, leaning on his cane. Everybody, as was usual, rose when he walked into the room. He was leaning on his cane as he walked in. “How is everybody doing?’ Mabuza II asked, and everybody replied with some version of good. Basic greetings were being exchanged, and small conversations had, as the meeting wasn’t due to start for a few minutes. But Mabuza II, already pretty tired, started to not feel well.

“I’m going to try and get some fresh air. Charles, would you like to come with me?” He gestured to his Chief of Staff, Charles Lobotome. Charles said, and the two began to walk outside. But then, that’s when he started feeling the searing pains in his own chest. He stopped walking.

“Your Holiness? Mabuza?” Charles asked, as Mabuza II stopped walking. He looked to be slightly swaying on the spot, fully leaning on his cane. “Are you OK?” Mabuza II nodded, and tried to continue to walk. But then, Mabuza II, after walking to the balcony, complained of chest pain, and he then collapsed. Charles immediately yelled for a medic, and people ran over. The medics who came to the scene quickly confirmed that Mabuza II was having a heart attack. Would he survive it? He would be airlifted to the hospital at Northern Moravica University, and Charles then started making calls to members of the College of Bishops that Mabuza II was having a heart attack. This situation might require the attention of quite a few people...

Lacrosse Is Back (What to Expect),
by Kenzie Jeffries, Concord Heights Times Intern

I would like to take this time to thank the Concord Heights Times for selecting me to cover the 31st World Lacrosse Championships from Baker Park. I have never been to this country before, and so far I haven’t found a lot of the important laws to be much different. One can consume alcohol at 18, which is good for me, since I am only 20, so if it were 21 this business trip would be a lot less fun. Marijuana is legal too, just like at home! So, if you are reading this now and pondering whether to take a trip to Baker Park for the tournament, but are concerned about whether or not you’ll be able to have fun after the game or on an off day, you’re safe! That other crap is illegal, though, like cocaine and heroin, much like it is in Cassadaigua. We’re sure if you are bringing the family, there are types of kiddie things that can be done, too.

Cassadaigua has been placed into Group F, and that better be for “Fun” instead of “Failure”. We will be touring the country during group play, and that will add some expenses for fans who want to attend more then just one game. Of course, that’s exactly what the organizing personnel want. They want you to see more of the country, so that when you go home after the games, you get to thinking that you really liked something that you saw, but did not have time to visit it, so you will make another run out there.

The campaign will begin in the city of Endborough at Ludlow Road Park. This is located in the northeastern portion of the country, and has been used by the host nation to host group stage games. You may remember that the country that hosted the last World Lacrosse Champions had home and away fixtures for all nations instead of all nations being in the host country. I have a feeling you may remember that! That also made for a very long group stage, something that will be much shorter this time around. I think we are all glad though!

(Report Intermission: Why did Cheergirls never sign up? They actually did better then us last time? Perhaps someone forgot about the fact that they did so well until it was too late).

After we hopefully start this out right against Northwest Kalactin, we’re moved to the dead center of the country in the city of Hannover. The stadium looks like a good one for lacrosse, and with us playing Abanhfleft, the fans should be treated to a good matchup. Next up, our Baker Park tour brings us to Marshallton. Now, we are in the southeastern portion of the nation to see what this area has to offer. The opponent here is East Tennessee Smoky Mountains. That’s an interesting name for a country. I mean, Cassadaigua is a mountainous nation as well, but we didn’t need to include that in the name of the country. The equivalent would be the Central Cassadaigua Mountains. I’m glad we didn’t opt for that.

At halfway, hopefully things are going well, and hopefully the Tour de Baker Park goes well for the fans staying for the whole thing. We’re heading back towards Endborough now, towards Coolville. The city name better not disappoint. You won’t have to go far for our next game, being held in Kellerville. So, if you want to just go to two games, I may suggest doing it between MD4 and MD5, where the distance between cities is not that significant, in comparison to other distances. Finally, to conclude the tour, we go to the most recognizable city for most of us, which is Belle Haven. This is a great spot to have a “we won the group” celebration afterwards, so hopefully our team won’t let us down. It could also suffice, I suppose, as a spot if we failed to advance to the playoffs, as a place to drown down one’s frustrations.

How good is this team? We can hope for a run at the championship, and I don’t think we should be ruling that out. Two semifinalists from the last edition. Wrexwic and Cheergirls, have not signed up. Abanhfleft is a tough group stage opponent for sure, though I see no reason why we don’t make the playoffs as a top two team. Once there, hopefully thinks are clicking well for the team and they can make that extended run!

A large turn out of West Phoenician Lacrosse fans has given The Daredevils the boost they needed to slay the opposition today on the first match of the season.

The Daredevils came face to face with Huri de Wintre a nation they felt would give them the most competition, it's a team they have come across during the Lacrosse Chamltionships.
The day started off perfect, perfect blue skies with a small peppering of clouds. The West Phoenician Lacrosse Federation members were out in force handing out sizzling hot sausages in bread to fans as well as lolly bags for the children from both teams in attendance.

It was a perfect day, the only damper were 50 protesters holding signs reading "Independence for the White Rose Confederation. Over the last few weeks a growing number of citizens from that nation within the Empire have been calling to remove themselves from the Empire and become Independent once more. Protests have become more frequent in areas of the nation where support is high. Official figures have 35-40% want Independence while the majority still want to be apart of the Confederate Empire of West Phoenicia. The Government and Royal Family have been slow in counter responding believing that allowing people to voice their opposition shows just how benevolent West Phoenicia is. However extra police have been called in to keep the streets safe. Currently the protests were mainly convinced to the White Rose Federation, but sources suggest major sporting events could be targets for the protesters who want media attention.

The small number of protesters did little to distract the players from their game. Game one was an overall success with West Phoenicia beating Huri de Wintre 13-7.

Bolgano 16-13 Sr Saratoga

A good victory by the National Team against St Saratoga 16-13 in a close game for both teams from the beginning, although in the beginning St Saratoga went to attack and Bolgano to defend as expected, Bolgano made the first score of a goal of half court, the goalkeeper was distracted.

I spend a few minutes and the game stayed in the first half 5-3 in favor of Bolgano, at the beginning of the second half, St Saratoga went to the attack and managed to go back 5-6 but Bolgano counterattacked and placed things 10-6 and then 12 -8 and finish 16-13.

"This game helped us improve our weaknesses, we are on the way to the classification" says Brandon Trainer of Bolgano.
Ranking KPB: 95 (8.24)
Trigram: BGN
Titles: Wonder Cup 1, Beconailles (Andres Da Silva)

Off and running,
by Kenzie Jeffries, Concord Heights Times Intern

Well, wasn’t that fun! Our first game in Endborough went very well, as our Dagans handled the team from Northwest Kalactin fairly easily, winning the match by the score of 18-8. It made for a feel good result on the same day we were eliminated in Game 6 of WBC 46 Championships by Free Republics. That nation wins their first ever World Baseball Classic title. Now, that’s not want you want me to talk about, I know. I was wondering if since that was over if they were going to bring our regular writer, Chelsea Dufresne, to Baker Park, but that will not be the case. She is going to cover the NSSCRA competition and otherwise just take it easy. They have given me the green light out here, and I am enjoying ourselves.

You watched the game (you did watch it, didn’t you?), so I am not going to recap every single goal in detail. You can go to our website to watch the highlights of all of our goals during the match, as well as other interesting and exciting action. In a nutshell, this game was ours right from the start. Literally. Thirteen seconds into the game Jessica Crockett, the leading goalscorer in Cassadaigua, and our top scorer from the last tournament was somehow left uncovered (well, she was covered, her amazing skill was just too much for the opposition), and scored the opening goal. Three minutes into the game, it was 3-0. That was fun! It was great to watch all of our loyal fans who made the trip supporting us as well as others who just decided they would rather see us win then Northwest Kalactin. At halftime, it was all pink and black, as we led 11-2. The lead peaked at 16-5, before the ultimate final of 18-8. Jessica Crockett led the way with a double hat trick, and both Alyssa Mosley and Cassie Wheeler had two goals. Katie Stewart had five assists.

After the game, I was able to hold by first post-game interviews, and the highlight was with Jessica Crockett who told me, “Northwest Kalactin is that team that could keep us out of the playoffs. It is widely predicted that us and Abanhfleft will advance from the group, so it is the Kalactins that are in the spoiler seat. The unranked Mountains team could be, too, we’ll have to wait and see. We had to get this win, and it was great to dictate the play right from the start.”

I'm in Hannover right now, going to go out to take in the sights before heading out to the stadium to watch practice as they get set for a huge game. Be watching! Be supporting!

Saints Fall in Controversial Match Day One

Cost: K$ 1.50

The University Stadium, Belle Haven -- With the first day of the World Lacrosse Championships in the books, the re-tooled Saints look like their same old selves. The Saints fall to 0-1 in the tournament in a closely fought, controversial game against Bolgano.

The Saints were drawn with into Group A of the World Lacrosse Classic 31 in Bakers Park. The group consisted of a mix of a new comers as well as experienced nations with Saratoga being the highest ranked team in the group at #7 in the world. The members of Group A are Saratoga, Nantians & Nosts, Bolgano and the WLC 31 host Bakers Park. The Saints were scheduled to take on newcomer Bolgano in the first day of the tournament. The Saints record going into the tournament is 11-6-5 overall and 2-1-3 against unranked opponents.

With the pre-game festivities over with, The Saints and Bolgano National Team took the field for the game. The Saints came out running on the beginning of the game, with the Saints peppering the Bolgano goalie relentlessly as their defense struggled to adjust to the experienced Saints offense. International rookie forward Mickey Wright quickly established himself as a playmaker of the team as he setup a lot of shots only for it to either be stopped by the Blogano goalie or ding of the goal posts.

The first goal of the game came as a result of what replay after the game showed to be a missed “defenseless player” penelty carried out by Bolgano forward Dennis Kirbey on Saints Midfielder Taylor Kemps. Saints goalie Alexander Atkins, trying to raise the attention of the refs to the now injured player on the field was caught off-guard by a center field, or as the Bolgano media calls it “Halfcourt”. Saints head coach William Toivonen argued with the refs about the validity of the goal stating that the play should have been blown dead with the injury of the player but the refs refused to invalidate the goal. The Saints fanbase let the refs know their feelings on the missed call with a full volley of boos.

The Saints and Bolgano would go back in forth in the first half with the score coming to 5-3 in favor of Bolgano at halftime. With the Saint refocused, the Saints took the lead 5-6 going into the third part of the game. From there it was back in forth with the game finally ending at 16-13 with the Bolgano goalie making multiple acrobatic saves in the last minute to clinch the first game.

The Saints would fall to newcomer Bolgano 13 – 16, bringing their tournament record to 0-1 then continue to show signs of stuggle against unranked teams.

JH: “Overall thoughts on your team performance?”

WT: “We are very disappointed in the officiating of this game, that injury really distracted the boys for the first half. You saw it in beginning of the second half, they are fired up and have a vicious offensive power.”

JH: “What was the discussion with the refs on the missed call? How’s [Taylor] Kemps looking injury-wise?”

WT: “Man I was pissed, I don’t know how they missed that hit, everyone else in the stadium say it. I lost it when they got that B*llsh*t goal. At halftime, I brought my replay and the game rules manual with me to argue the point, they recognized missed call and apologized. Still no way to take that goal back. Right before the start of the second half [General Manager] Joe [Moore] told me they are going to bring it up with the Baker Park WLC Committee to make sure we aren’t dealing with these refs again. Bolgano is a newer team, you can tell, they are scrappy. On the subject of Kemps, not much is known now, he’s been transported to a local hospital with concerns of a neck injury with the hit, landed very awkwardly. All I know now is he is likely out for majority if not all of the WLC.”

JH: “What was the main thing you took out of this game for your team?”

BT: "This game helped us improve our weaknesses, we are on the way to the classification"

Declined to Interview.

The Saratogan Saints fall to 3rd in Group A by the end of the match day. Next up for the Saints on Match Day Two is the 10th ranked Baker Park. The WLC host won their first game against Nantians & Nosts to a score of 9-21, moving them into 1st place in Group A. They are followed up by Bolgano in 2nd place, N&N fells to 4th after losing the tiebreaker to the Saints. Box score and standings below.

Nantians & Nosts 9–21 Baker Park
Bolgano 16–13 St Saratoga

Group A Pld W L GF GA GD Pts
1 Baker Park 1 1 0 21 9 +12 2
2 Bolgano 1 1 0 16 13 +3 2
3 St Saratoga 1 0 1 13 16 −3 0
4 Nantians & Nosts 1 0 1 9 21 −12 0

The Saints now travel northwest to Loren Abernathy Stadium in the town of Northfield Borough in central Baker Park State. Abernathy Stadium, a traditional open stadium with a track surrounding the playing field and stands surrounding the stadium on the northern, western and southern sides with trees on wrapping around the fence on the eastern side. The stadium is home to the Commonwealth Methodist University athletics, the University of Saratoga – Rogerbei has scrimmaged the Methodist University on this field two years so Saratogan sports fans are fairly familiar with this stadium setting the stage for a good match up.

The Baker Park national team is coming into Match Day Two after scoring 21 goals on Nantians & Nosts. Their high powered, high-paced team has the potential to make opponents pay dearly even for the slightest mistakes. The BPNT Head Coach Hal Covington is coaching her first WLC with Assistant Coaches Jacie Wilson and Rob Petruccelli as her side, all who combined have won eight Baker Park collegiate national championships. The BPNT is captained by 25 year old Kasie Nielson who is a midfielder out of the University of Ezra.

“We are looking forward to a competitive top 10 battle. The whole team moved on from the loss at [The] University Stadium and are fired up to take on Baker Park. My sister who has played on this pitch for the Wildcats says it’s a loud stadium. Should be a high scoring ordeal. We have a really good record against ranked teams so I at least am feeling good about tomorrow.” Saints Captain & Midfielder Zak Boyle.

MOE ON SPORT

1st Day of WLC: Notebook

Moe Carlton
The Mail on Sunday Sport Columnist

I'm the first to admit that I don't know a lot of the subtleties of lacrosse, but on balance I thought day one was at least a success from the eye test point of view.

Of course a good win for the home side is always a great way to get people interested, but some of the other matches had twists and turns that shook up the pecking order. Take the opening match at the University Stadium, St Saratoga against newcomers Bolgano. On paper it's shouldn't have been much of a match; the Saints are ranked 7th in the multiverse, while the rookies could probably just have hoped for a good showing. The first goal was something of a controversial decision, as Taylor Kemps went down after taking a hard check, which the experts said should've been a penalty but that the officials didn't call; the shot itself from the Bolgano attacker Kirbey from distance catching the keeper off guard and it was 1-0. The physical nature of the match carried on and in the end, it was the minnows who came away with the victory.

Baker Park will be up next for the Saints, as the group A circus moves across the river and out to Northfield, which I suppose from a purely fan perspective is about the two ends of the spectrum of the Metro area. I still think Desjardine Meadows would've been perfectly suitable, but the UAC wanted venues to accommodate at least 14,000, and Northridge County isn't a terrible place to spend a Sunday, all things being equal.

Another shock match was in Coolville, as the top seeds in Group D, Sarzonia, were toppled by another newcomer from Shatla, 7-5. For the rest of the matches, it was generally true to the form guide.

As the hosts, and from their past experience, the BP Laxxers should be in the conversation about teams who have a chance to win, seeing as the field is fairly wide open with the absence of 2 time defending champions Wrexwic. Hal Covington stepping in to take charge from Brittaney Franklin doesn't seem like a huge shift in they way the team is organized, as Franklin is a protegee of the longest tenured coach in the sport. Appropriately enough, we'll be at the MSE the next time you'll hear from me.
