SEOUL, COREA -

The Republic of the Corean Peninsula has now officially begun. The Republic of Korea and the Democratic People's Republic of Korea have been officially dissolved. The Presidential and National Assembly elections are expected immediately. Candidates include former citizens of both sides of the DMZ, with the most promising Presidential candidates gaining support from both sides. Results of the Presidential and National Assembly elections are expected sometime next week. If you are Corean, consider voting, as the President's term is five years with each National Assembly member's term lasting four years. 光明天地, Let There be Light Across the Land.

SEOUL, COREA -

President Hyeon Ji-Yeong was elected as the President of the Republic of the Corean Peninsula. Inaugurated on September 1st, 2019, he has selected the northern Corean Gim Ye-Jun as his Prime Minister. The National Assembly approved Gim Ye-Jun earlier this week, although the vote wasn't close to unanimous. The President has issued several executive orders, while the National Assembly has passed the Universal Bill of Rights, which received the President's signature immediately afterwards. The Speaker of the National Assembly, Young-Hee Rhee, has accepted our request for comment on the legal ramifications of this game-changing legislation.
"Civil rights are always a special issue when it comes to politics, both domestic and abroad. As Corea's motto states: 光明天地, Let There be Light Across the Land. The National Assembly stands behind President Hyeon and Prime Minister Gim, may we see many more changes that benefit all Coreans. - Ms. Young-Hee Rhee

So what changes have actually occurred? We have documented all of the notable changes so far below.

Changes so Far

  • 보편적 인 권리 장전 | Universal Bill of Rights - Declares seven unalienable rights for all human persons, whom grace Corea's shores, regardless of legal status.
  • For the following weeks, a review and reform of all standing legislation will be executed by the National Assembly, so it may be legitimate in the eyes of the Universal Bill of Rights.
    • Conscription and the death penalty are likely to be abolished in the coming months.
    • Prostitution, drug possession, and other "victim-less" crimes are likely to be decriminalized in the coming months.
  • The President has issued several (5) Executive Orders which will "streamline" and "secure" the government.
    • Closing the Ministry of Unification by Executive Order.
    • Closing the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family by Executive Order.
    • Opening the Nuclear Triad Force, as an independent agency reporting directly to the President, by Executive Order. Its stated purpose is to develop and maintain a nuclear triad deterrent in order to prevent foreign aggression.
    • Mandatory conscription to be halted indefinitely by Executive Order. Current conscripts may file a special application for early release if they wish to do so.
    • Moratorium on the death penalty, by Executive Order, in the practice of his predecessors.
