Removing deleted nations from ban lists

Postby Daytime to Night » Sun Jun 16, 2019 5:39 am

Hi there,

Assumed this happened automatically but it seems to be the case that where regions have banned nations with names that breach game rules these nations are preserved on their ban lists even once deleted by moderators (and these offensive names are kept on display on banlists in perpetuity).

Is it possible for these to be automatically removed from banlists once they are deleted by moderation? Not great seeing racial slurs preserved on the banlists.

Other factor is that regions have (I understand) a ban list limit that means existing (active) nations might become unbanned once this fills up, even though half the nations on the bandits are deleted nations?

The banlist is not in the database. It's part of the regional flat file. In order to remove CTE or deleted nations from all regional banlists, it would be necessary for the game to scan all 23,222 regions to check for the name every time a nation was deleted. Sorry, that's just not practical at this time.

It is important that evidence of moderation actions are preserved. This logic is the same as if college history texts said "Stalin/Hitler/Mao was a bad guy" but decided to not give any evidence for what they did for 'sensitivity' reasons. Don't you see what a slippery slope removing names which are already banned because they are 'offensive' could do?

we have the graveyard for that

I don't see how this relates to the question. Mods don't add people to regional banlists, ROs do. I see no reason why Examplespammer can't be manually removed from the region's banlist once the mods have deleted them. If we wish to preserve their spam posts, we have the Mod Suppression tool already. The banlist is superfluous and irrelevant.

Thanks Fris, just wondered whether that could be automated when the delete occurred but appreciate that its not a priority as there's already in-game functions for the same result.
