[ISSUE COMPETITION] ISSUE 1234

Postby Candlewhisper Archive » Fri May 24, 2019 1:09 am

WOOO! EXCITING! COMPETITION TIME!

We've decided to set aside issue slot 1234 for a mini issue competition. That means that when we pass 1234 in the issue count, we'll reserve it as a blank space till for our a competition winner.

So how do I do this?

Simply submit issues as normal, but in the title put [1234 ISSUE]. The best one will get fast-tracked into that slot. You can draft here as well as normal, and we'll still give the same level of feedback as normal. Also, of course, we'll keep an eye out for plagiarism, so you don't have to worry about your ideas being stolen.

What's the deadline?

On Friday 21 June the Senior Editors will decide the winner, by consensus.

If I don't win, could my issue still get published?

Yes, we'll put other good entries into the accepted issue pool, just like we would with any good submission.

Can staff / editors enter?

Yes, but none of the three Senior Editors will be doing so, in order for us to make an unbiased judgement.

Can I enter more than once?

Yeah, go wild.

Hold on, isn't there a prize besides being published?

You get the kudos and adulation of the community, and in years to come NS folk will go "hey, you know Issue 1234? That was the result of a competition that **AUTHORNAMEMACRO** won."

Just like we now say "Hey, you know issue 777? That was won by Drasnia in an issue writing contest themed around gambling. He beat that ass Candlewhisper Archive, don't you know?"

Wait, wait, what's the theme?

The theme is... 1234.

Seriously, just make it something where the issue number is appropriate for the issue, and where we can see what the link is. Something about counting or maths, or whatever. Create, create, create!

Seriously, what's the point here? Don't I even get a special badge?

Hey, it's just a bit of fun! I'll do a Skandilundian Tribute Dance in your honour.

Anyway, let's get to it!

IMPORTANT PRODUCT INFORMATION: While Autonomous Cleaner Bot Cleaners have a smart navigation system that avoids obstacles, the robot may occasionally bump into furniture, objects, pets and ideological assumptions. Therefore, if you have special objects and assumptions that could potentially be damaged by the bumping, remove these objects and assumptions from the room or use boundary markers. Additionally, refrain from looking into laser vision system with remaining eye.

Deadline June 21. We'll probably not get around to choosing until the next day anyway (we're not always online at the same time).

I'd compete, but I just had to take a glimpse at VH's (haven't looked at any others, was just curious about what 1234 was)
and realized I'd have no chance.

Nice to see another issue contest though. :)

Even if you think you can't win, draft and submit anyway as good quality losing entries will likely still get published at a later date.

Just to verify I'm understanding correctly, when submitting, we just need to put the text "[1234 ISSUE]" in the newspaper headline at the beginning of the issue title, in order to formally submit it for this?

Yes, although I don't think it matters whether you put that at the beginning of the title or at the end.

As far as I can tell, we don't have a flag on it currently (so no way of tracking if it's active/inactive on a nation), but if you wanted to write a reversal for it as part of the competition, then it's something I wouldn't be opposed to adding.

Reminder that we're into the last 5 days on this. Contestants should be polishing off/requesting final feedback on their submissions before entry.
