Backstories

Name: Alexander Eldridge
Appearance:

Nationality:English
Trade:Engineer
Expedition:Revolutionaries
Biography: Mr Eldridge despite being a man of the socialist persuasion had as many would call a bourgeoise upbringing. He was brought up as the son of a wealthy landowner out in the English countryside, oddly enough for a man of the 19th century Alexander's farther was a severe luddite and as such he deprived both his family and his tenants of most if not all forms of modern technology this was all well and good for a wealthy family who could afford the finest of non technological goods an Alexander (despite how he puts it to his comrades) yet as Alexander grew older and spoke at length with the kids from town he resolved that he was going to make a name for himself outside his father's primeval manor, upon hearing this his farther was less than pleased forcing Alexander to eventually sneak out of the house and make his way to London.

When he arrived in the big city it was far less than what he had been expecting the money that he had appropriated from his father's home had been quickly running out in the form of rent and drink and it turned out that acquiring a well paying job was not easy in the slightest. He ended up hanging out with a group of folk who called themselves the Anarcho socialist league of Britain, despite the flashy name they were really just 15 bitter guys who all drank at the same bar and Alexander fit in perfectly. He eventually fell under the tutelage of John Arlington, an engineer who had worked on many of the great industrial machines of the era and upon seeing the pain it caused to the workers he committed himself to the revolutionary cause and now sought to take Alexander under his wing in both political theory and engineering.

Alexander adapted well to a career of engineering and practically thought of the socialist ethos as his own religion. He worked with Mr Arlington on number of projects and prospects looked up for him working on some of his own things however the vanishing of the sun put a quick end to that dream, practically every engineer in the country was assigned to an emergency plan to create insulated shelters across the country, when plans were leaked that the shelters were to only be for the wealthy revolution engulfed the country and Alexander and his friends were at it's forefront. Eventually London was brought under the command of the revolution although the fate of the rest of the country was unknown due to the breakdown of communication yet the revolution had gained a stronghold! With their exodus from the cities the bourgeoise had taken with them great deals of industrial and scientific equipment, a revolutionary vanguard was quickly assembled to reclaim this equipment and was sent out into the frozen void, Alexander was of course a willing volunteer in this expedition and was extraordinarily willing to take the fight to the wealthy scum. Yet the days wore on and there was sight of any shelters, no sight of London either and every minute it just grew colder and colder. The expedition was eroded away be desertions and deaths, eventually leaving just a scared crew of 5 men to accompany Alexander and with time they too went leaving Alexander alone in the dark.

Don't worry Hark I got ya covered.

Name:Thomas Samson
Appearance:
Image

Nationality:American
Trade:Scientist
Expedition:Scientific Expedition
Biography:
Growing up in the south was not easy for this man of color. He was born in a small town in the deep deep south, to sharecroppers who struggled to survive in Jim Crow land. The nail in the coffin was when his uncle was lynched by a mob after they got wind that he had insulted a white woman. This did not happen but that did not stop innocent blood from being shed. Thomas and his folk escaped to the north, to Harlem, New York with nothing but the clothes on their backs. Things where far from perfect but the horrors of the south were now far behind them.

In New York, he was free to pursue his true passions away from the fields. He was a brilliant tinkerer and thinker. He would take any gadgets and widgets in his family's possession and tear them apart then reassemble them improving them in the process. He invented wonderful devices in his free time. He possessed a sharp mind that would do him good in all future endeavors. He got a scholarship to Cheyney University where he would study physics and chemistry. To escape the prejudice of America, like so many before him he moved to Europe where his talents as a scientist would be well received, and he became a respected and distinguished scientist in Paris.

He was to take a scientific expedition to a far off land an opportunity of a lifetime. Thomas traveled to London, where he gave a speech at the Society of Thinkers rousing applause accompanied what was to be the pinnacle of his crowning achievement in the field of physics.

Then it happened. It grew colder and colder as the sun died out. Thomas at first escaped to his lab where he came up with scientific inquiries for why the sun had died out. He soon ran into his fellow scientists who joined him on an expedition to find a solution. They all died in the end, leaving Thomas to his work solo. It is not an easy task but Thomas is an introvert at heart,he tinkers and performs experiments in his lab to find out the answer to the eternal winter mystery,...

Name: Duke Mikhael Zukhov, Fabricator-Lord of the Sky Blue Fleet
Appearance: Tall as a willow tree, beard once sand-blonde with hints of scarlet now tinged with white as the stress of his life wears upon him. Mikhael was once a muscular fencer, an officer trained in classical warfare in Moscow, his frame now somewhat diminished due to a lack of calories but still formidable. He wears a slate gray uniform and the brass stars of his command, when they can be seen under the leathers and thick cloak he swaddles himself in.
Nationality: Russian, though he can get by in German and English
Trade: Engineer prior to being called into the military. Now, Commander without a command.
Expedition: Scientific Expedition
Biography: His face now sallow and sunken from long hours and febrile purpose, Mikhael was once a hale and febrile man, a commander and gentleman-scientist in the Russian National Army just prior to the Revolution. Renowned for his ruthless but efficient strategic acumen, and the terror he inflicted on enemy and his men alike, he was nearly slain in an assassination in the opening days of the Crimson Revolt, before going on to slaughter nearly three hundred thousand revolutionaries at the Battle of Vismisa Forest with chemical weapons and a charnel pit of artillery. Since the sun went out, he drove his men to seek resources and machines to rebuild the world that was, until his last lieutenant disappeared nearly a week ago.

Name: John Giles
Appearance: A man of contradiction by looks, John combines a careffully kempt, delicate face and fair moustache with a rough, soldier's body and an infantryman's cloak, bearing the insignia of the nascent red cross. His face, at first look, is eminently gentle, his eyes carrying a light warmth, but after more than a moment the scars can more easily be spotted, along with the boxed ear and the three silver-teeth. He carries a sad aspect about him, seeming to wander like a great, oddly lost bear in the snow.
Nationality: Giles was an Englishman, but very much a citizen of the world. Born to colonial administrators in Ceylon and having lived for years in Port Arthur.
Trade: Giles was, when the sun went, a military medic. Before that, he'd been an adventurer and a medical student.
Expedition: Refugees.
Biography: To be elaborated, but in brief John was raised in Ceylon before returning to England and attending Cambridge (Corpus Christi) to learn biology and medicine. Half way through his time there his roystering temper and love of port and cider ran him afoul of the dean and had him sent packing. He spent 1900-1904 touring Europe and East Asia, making pilgrimages between the churches of the East and the great cities of the Orient. He joined up in 1904 with the humanitarian effort in the Russo-Japanese War, hoping to find himself a purpose, and spent the war witnessing horrors unlike any he'd dreamt. For years after he tended to the wounded veterans and made his way as a travelling medic, even taking work on an expedition up the Nile, before returning to England when the war began and signing up as a medic with the Red Cross. When the sun died, he tried in vain to keep his fellows together in one hospital, but was overwhelmed by patients, and forced to try to take those who could walk back home. He got as far as Surrey before the last man died, leaving him alone in the snow.

Name: Rose Casten, Death's Maiden
Appearance:
Image
Nationality: British
Trade: Armed Escort and Bounty Hunter
Expedition: Trade Caravan
Biography: Rose's life didn't change much after the sun died. Having grown up on the streets, with naught but weapons and wits to keep herself alive, her life had always been one of pure survival. Even as she grew skilled with those weapons, and became adept at scavenging the winding alleys of London for valuables, survival - and maybe a quick buck - were the only concerns. Slowly, as her means and her connections grew, Rose began taking contracts - bounties, as they were called. Some ended up with her getting into hairier situations than she'd like, but overall the endeavor was extremely profitable. And when the sun went out, she just hopped onto a caravan and did the exact same thing as before. As an outrider for the caravan, she was able to do exactly what she had been doing before - get the drop on enemies, and overall do her own thing. She even managed to hone her scavenging along the way, the remains from other former expeditions ripe for harvest. Until her own caravan was added to that pile of remains.

The end of the world is near. Scientists couldn't give an exact date, but any moment, the atmosphere could begin to condense. The implications are beyond catastrophic.

Time is now measured in minutes and hours. The clock progresses by 1 hour each "turn", leaving players 60 minutes to spend on actions. Once the actions are resolved, the clock moves forward by another hour and new actions can be posted. Note that it is the OPs duty to keep track of time and to resolve the effects of actions.

Each action a player can take has a rough estimate of how long it will take and what the probable effects will be. It is the OPs role to determine whether an action is successful or not, based on player attributes and the element of uncertainty.

Each player has attribute points in the following 7 categories, starting values determined based on your character's biography. Attributes have an active effect (if used during an action, listed first) and a passive effect (applied from start, listed second). No player may have more then 5 points in any category, as level 5 signifies complete mastery.

Attribute points may be gained during game through practice, or lost to madness and injury.

I. Might
A: + effect of pushing, pulling, smashing things, if successful.
P: + 5 Heart per point.

II. Precision
+ accuracy, success chance, reliability when used.
+ 1 Mind per point.

III. Speed
- time it takes to perform any action.
+ 1 Priority to all actions (characters with higher priority perform their actions first if both occur at the same time).

IIII. Caution
+ awareness, thoroughness, protection against hidden dangers.
- 5 minutes per point for Investigate/Explore time cost.

V. Gears
+ understanding of machinery, craftiness, construction.
- 5 minutes per point for Craft/Build time cost.

VI. Flesh
+ understanding of the human body, medicine, metabolism.
- 5 minutes per point for Heal/Cook time cost.

VII. Elements
+ understanding of hard science.
+ 1 Research point per design action.

VIII. Faith
+ hope for salvation,
+ 1 willpower per prayer.

When performing an action, players may specify which attributes they wish to use to perform said action. Some attributes contradict others, and apply penalties if used at the same time.

I. Might
&
II. Precision
Contradict one another.

III. Speed
&
IIII. Caution
Contradict one another.

V. Gears
&
VI. Flesh
Contradict one another.

VII. Elements
&
VIII. Faith
Contradict one another.

By default, you may use 1 attribute for each action, without using willpower.
To use 2 attributes, you must spend 1 willpower.
To use 3 attributes, you must spend 2 willpower.
If you wish to use contradicting attributes as part of the same action, you must spend 1 additional willpower.

Each character has 15 Heart + Might x 5 and 5 Mind + Precision at start.
Your Heart determines starting and maximum HEALTH.
Your Mind determines starting and maximum WILLPOWER.

HEALTH
- Health can be reduced by injuries, starvation and freezing.
- If it reaches 0, your character loses consciousness and dies within 10 minutes if no help is received.
- Health can be regained by resting, eating and being treated with medicine.

WILLPOWER
- Willpower (while positive) can be spent on boosting the chance of success of actions, or to react to life threatening dangers.
- You regain willpower with rest and prayer.
- You may lose willpower through pain and dread. Negative willpower may cause madness.

Name - Time cost - Effects

Move - 5 minutes - Relocate to a nearby area, provided you have a safe path there. If not, you may encounter challenges along the way.

Explore - 60 minutes - Search an unexplored area to gain information about it and possibly find items. Note that you can move through unexplored areas. You may explore an area together with your comrades. Doing so cuts exploration time to half (or to a third).

Investigate - 30 minutes - Study an explored area for additional information (must be done alone however).

Scavenge - 30 minutes - Gather materials (scrap, chemicals, electron tubes, oil, raw food) from explored areas.

Craft - 30 minutes per level (level 0 is always 5 minutes). Craft an item from a design provided you have the materials for it. Items come in levels (0 to 5). Gears guarantee success for levels below or equal to yours, Precision increases item durability, speed reduces crafting time, other attributes may have unforseen consequences. Failing to craft an item will refund components.

Design - 30 minutes to add 1 (+ elements) research point (level 0 items are free to design!).
- Step1: You may at any time during the game dream up any type of item/construction (TG me!).
- Step2: The OP then assigns a level to the item/construction.
- Step3: You may then begin designing the item/construction by adding research points using this action. A level 1 item cots 1 research points, a level 5 item costs 5 research points. You may split your RPs between multiple designs, or stop designing and continue later if interrupted.
- Step4: Once you've added enough research points to complete the design, the OP will attach a price tag in materials.
- Step5: You may share your designs with other players for free, or craft them yourself!

Rest - 120 minutes - Regain +5 Health from injuries or exhaustion (but not from sickness, frostbite or hunger!), +1 Willpower. !Reduces your defense against cold by 10 °C for the duration!

Pray - 5 minutes - +1 Willpower

Recycle - 60 minutes - Take apart an item. Gain back most of its components.

Additional actions my be discovered through exploring the world or using items.

Each character may carry an unlimited amount of items. However, excessive hoarding however may increase the time it takes for you to move between areas.

Constructions cannot be moved.

Some items are common and available from the start.

It is not possible to steal items from other players (not even while they rest), unless they are knocked unconscious during combat.

THE COLD
Each area has temperature rating in °C degrees. The exact value however is unknown to you without a thermometer.
Your clothes are able to protect you against a certain level of cold. If temperature drops below that, you will gradually lose health.
0 - 20 °C difference = -1 health per hour!
21 - 50 °C difference = -1 health per 10 minutes!
51 °C or greater difference = -1 health per minute!

Health lost to cold comes in the form of hypothermia. For each point of health lost to cold, Hypothermia develops to a more advanced stage, causing penalties to your attributes.

THE HUNGER
You need to eat. Once every 6 hours, your hunger intensifies.

You may reduce your hunger by eating. This also restores health.

Each level of hunger (except the first) gradually diminishes your health and sanity.

THE DARKNESS
Whilst in an area without a trace of light, or as a result of exhaustion, your sanity may be tested.

For each hour spent in darkness, you may lose willpower. For each day without rest, you may lose willpower.

Soundscape

Alexander
We should have stayed in London... - The last words of his comrades as they fell, one by one, rolling down railroad embankment into a snowy grave. - We should have found shelter... - The words echoed in Alexander's mind - This is the end of the line.

There was no time to count the dead, let alone bury then. Last time Alexander turned back, there were still 5 of them.

Now he is alone.

The railroad stretched on, and on... and on... a never ending march to an objective long forgotten. Hills and valleys, bridges and tunnels... but then suddenly, a black silhouette appeared among the stars.

A railway carriage, marked with a red cross, frozen into the tracks on a downhill slope, the conductor leaning onto the breaks, his eyes crystallized.

With his mult-purpose tool, Alexander was able to liberate the carriage from its icy cage and lubricate the breaks with some spare oil. Soon, he was travelling 50 miles per hour towards his objective... if only the others were still here... The carriage was packed with medical supplies.

As the carriage was slowing down following the descent, Alexander found himself in a railway junction. A labyrinth of Locomotives and cars, and a mysterious light looming in the distance.

God is dead.
Set out to study the trees, investigate an anomaly.
Your friends are dead.
Are the trees whispering, or is it the stars? Have they conspired against us?
You are next.
There is no source of light... if only we still had a tinderbox, could make a big fire, burn them all down.
Die.
...

An opening in the treeline, the sled catching speed on the icy remains of a stream. Moments later, it crashes into a concrete slab, everything that can break breaks.

Mikhael
Unexpected flashes of lighting and thunder, then screaming, cursing. Men jumping ship, explosions, fire, blood, steam and smoke. Then... silence. Snowflakes whirling in the wind. Wooden beams and copper wiring entangled in fabric, punctured hydrogen canisters, their content slowly leaking into the atmosphere. Icy corpses already half submerged in snow. It hasn't been snowing in months. Today is different.

When the fires peter out, Darkness enshrouds the wreckage. Alone among the stars... All seems lost...

John
It was chaos.
Swarms of people flooding into King's Cross, screaming children, frightened faces, flickering lights. The ticket office overrun, barriers broken, policeman pushed aside, workmen and clerks piling into first class carriages. John found refuge in the red cross wagon, in the company of a lone conductor fending off the masses with his colt, firing several shots into the air to protect the valuable cargo on board.

Among crates of medicine and provisions, they traveled through the countryside, sharing stories and theories. The conductor thought him how to shoot, they opened the wagon door, just ever so slightly and practiced on moving targets. Then, all of the sudden, a loud clank. Their carriage disconnected by the hands of man or the might of nature. The lights went out, then the breaks triggered, toppling the stacks of cargo. John was buried beneath bags of potatoes and rendered unconscious.

It was cold... so very cold, for so very long. John could feel the ice crawling through his limbs, but could not force himself to awaken. Then, something strange. The warmth of light, movement, a bitter taste in his mouth. Was he awake again?

Starting Items:
2x bag of potatoes (raw food)
1x Stethoscope (Allows action Diagnose - 5 minute - Helps identify disease.)
2x Agent Blue (a myseterious box of pills, almost empty, unlabeled)

Rose
"We are rich!"
It was a profitable business, scavenging through northern England, exchanging supplies with the locals, fighting off the occasional guerrillas, for awhile at least. As temperatures were dropping, more and more settlements vanished beneath the all consuming ice. Meanwhile, the caravan's manpower begun to dwindle. The militias were increasingly desperate, and the cold more pervasive.

Then, the deep frost struck. Unexpected and unforgiving, right in the middle of a guerrilla ambush. After fighting off her share of the attackers, Rose found shelter in the landship's engine room and could stay warm, until the coal ran out. By then, everyone else was dead.

Her pockets stuffed with money and jewelry, she commandeered the last operational steam sled and left to seek out civilization...

The journey took longer then expected. Every town, every village, every outpost she visited was either abandoned or its inhabitants consumed by ice. In the few occasions she found survivors, they were openly hostile, firing warning shots from a distance.

The sled was almost out of steam, and Rose out of hope when sudden lightings struck from the sky. The sled was hit, frying the delicate electronics and part of Rose's arms. The sled then caught fire and burned out in a few minutes. Rose saved what she could, but it was not much.

Then, distant explosions, fire, clouds of steam and smoke rising from behind a nearby hill. Perhaps she could warm up there...

Starting Items:
2x Chocolate bars (Food, also +1 willpower when consumed.)
1x Box of jewelry (may be used as scrap)
8000x Pound Sterling(in paper form)
1x Combat gear (armor 2 (-2 Health loss from injury), heat rating +7 (protection from down to -70 °C))
1x Scoped Crossbow (uses precision)
16x Bolts

Starting Conditions:
Struck by lighting: -5 Health (injury).

Health: 20 / 25
Willpower: 8 / 8

Damnation. Hellfire and damnation.

Mikhael rolled over the corpse of his second, Petyor, and let loose a string of foul invective that turned the air about his garbed face smokey with steam for a few moments before the icy breeze swept it away.

It had been going so well. And then, the storm. The helmsman had done his best to steer the Tsar Nicholas II away from the conflagration of lightning and rollicking fury, but there had been nothing to do. The dirigible's engines had been all but worthless before the tempest's fury, and then the main tanks were hit.

Providence had saved the sky-captain, for now. Of his men, all he could see were damnable corpses. They would never go home to their families, though all had suspected that was their fate upon setting out on this endeavor.

The hiss of punctured hydrogen tanks. It was God's grace that the fires had gone out shortly after ditching, or nobody at all would have walked away from the ensuing fireball. At any rate, it wasn't safe to stay here. Not even to bury the bodies. Already the bitter cold was digging into Mikhael's thick jacket, though the overlapping fabrication had been proof against anything the world could throw at it before the Darkness came.

In the half-light of the remaining consoles and floodlights of the zeppelin, Mikhael quickly took stock of what could be salvaged.

The Crash Site: [Explore] 60 minutes : (Gears) Searching for mechanical implements that can be salvaged with minimal effort or useful survival gear

The poor man's eyes were still open. John drifted awake staring into them, those eyes that had been so warm, that seemed all but frozen now. For a moment he thought the poor man, God rest his soul, was still living. Then he saw the shape his spine had twisted into.

A flashed memory of men, crushed under horses or bent like horseshoes. A farm lad shouting for home as a timber crushed the life from him. God rest his soul.

It was a while, much too long, before he felt the cold. It had filled his bones, the way that summer heat did, and it pulled him down. Like being pulled into a bed. Like drink, or another such fellow. He was so tired, so utterly exhausted. Then, his warm eyes flashed over the corpse in its pool of frozen blood, and the red cross all fool of sickly red on his own chest. To sleep was to die.

He lifted himself, his coat paper thin before the whistling wind through the carriage door. Hypothermia. By the feel of his arms, like needle and rock, it was bad. He'd seen such things before, in Manchuria. Thousands of men had frozen. He'd seen so many. He had to get somewhere warm. He needed to be dry. He needed sugar and a warm drink. Tea. He laughed, grim, at the thought. Death was nearer now than it had been before, but he was hardly afraid of better getting to know so old an acquaintance.

So long as the skull beneath the skin drew in no closer. He'd make rather an uncomfortable bedfellow. No, he was a man of the Cross, of red and white and of red alone. He'd hardly let himself die without at least writing his memoirs. He shook himself and pulled on the conductor's coat, closing his gentle, hazel eyes and wiping the frost from his eyelashes, as carefully as his gloves would allow. He would have to find some warmth, and soon. Perhaps they had stopped at a station. Somewhere with a boiler. He would have to look. But that meant openning the long carriage door and letting the wind in. He would search, first, for whatever else could be found in the cabin. Then, he'd brace, and step into the cold, muttering under his breath a jaunty

"Cry God, Harry and St.George. Into the breach."

Action: 60 Minutes exploring the Railway Junction for a source of warmth or the way to one. [Caution]

The flames consumed much, but in a remote part of the wreckage, pockets of valuable components remained untouched.
1x Engine Parts
1x Scrap
1x Music box

As Mikhael made it to the stern of the ship, he noticed a pipeline, broken by the crash, leaking hot steam into the air. The pipes were running from the mysterious clocktower towards the silhouette of a hilltop outpost, crowned by a relay tower.

Pentapolitan Kyrene wrote:The poor man's eyes were still open.

[Caution]

Action interrupted, player encountered:
Alexander

As he was about to search through the carriage, John noticed a shadow, that of a man, slowly walking across the carriage, creeping ever closer. The shadow had a rifle and a lantern, and was seemingly uncertain about what to do next...

Then, he turned back, opened the wagon doors and left to explore outside.

He stripped the wagon from some of its cargo, but left most crates intact. Indeed, It would take hours to sort through all these.
New scavenge site discovered: Red Cross Carriage

The cold made a speedy entry, dispelling what little warmth remained inside. On the outside, the stranger's footsteps marked a safe path through the snow, barely lit by the mysterious lights coming from the distance.

Soon, John found himself in a train station. His train was among the ones parked there. As he made his way through the platforms, he tipped over something hard and fell to the ground.

A Corpse.

Looking around, John saw Corpses everywhere, and blood, frozen blood, and broken glass, carriages were riddled with bullets, heaps of clothes and other belongings leaking from half open suitcases.

New scavenge site discovered: Suitcases

A dim light leads John to the main entrance of the station, there he finds a machine gun, surrounded by a sea of bullet casing, soldiers and a policeman lying on the ground, stabbed to death and stripped of valuables. The light came from a small flashlight, left on the floor. For some reason, they left it behind, although It looks like the battery will die soon.
1x Flashlight, 60 minutes remaining.

Then, footsteps, someone is coming, someone with a light of his own, the stranger...

The commander thanked the heavens for deliverance as he warmed his hands and extremities near the ruptured steam pipe. Slowly, carefully, he drove back the bitter chill from his limbs that had begun setting in during his search and the handling of cold metal parts. The parts alone were enough to be thankful for, but the music box was also a pleasant find. The tinkling noise warmed his heart, here amid the driving drifts.

Soon he would have to get out of the elements. But with the warmth of the steam for a time removing the threat of perishing in the ice, it would be unwise to not do what he could for his fallen comrades. He had no tools, but the gouge the airship has cut into the landscape would do as a grave for those brave souls he had journeyed long with. Most were already lost in the gathering snow, but those he could do due diligence to, he would.

Action: Bury his lieutenant and those nearby, taking what might be necessary for survival (like cloaks) from the fallen as he works. They have no further need of their equipment. (Precision for searching carefully)

Alexander collapsed out of the carriage, he had come to the end, his death would be among among the corpses of the great machines that he had once tended to, it was a honourable enough end he had served the revolution to the very end, he had scoured the country searching for the bourgeoisie scum in the little hideouts but he had long since come to the conclusion that they must have met the same frozen death that his commrades had faced, it had been a fruitless venture and no doubt thanks to the blunder London would die coated over in ice and corpses. Yet in his sight there was something:

A light

In all his travels across Southern England there had only ever been two forms of light that he had seen: that coming from the stars and that of his brigade. Meaning that either up ahead of him was what he had been searching for, the bourgeoisie scum's shelter he'd actually found it. by God he had succeeded in the end, if only the rest were here to see it. Of course the mighty quite simply by a product of the mind brought on by the coming of his last moments upon this Earth.

No matter it was something, a goal he could push himself towards, it mattered not if all of the king's men had gathered in that shelter he would still charge just to say to those pigs that the revolution lived on and the people they had forgotten about had certainly not forgotten about them.

He stumbled through the locamotive graveyard and looking up at the mighty iron leviathans he thought back to the raw power that exuded from their mighty engines back when his best prospects as an engineer were simply at the rail yard. Alexander chuckled to himself, he used to think that his first days in London were the worst of his life yet look at him now a colossal monument to murphy's law. Thoughts however were of no matter now he needed to find a way to get him to the light source without freezing to death and with so any magnificent machines around it shouldn't be too hard

A symbolic gesture, but futile in the end. The corpses were burned beyond recognition, or frozen into the ground. And how does one dig graves without a shovel? The clothes would not give way, but the contents of the pockets could be liberated.
1x personal notes of Lieutenant Petyor Kirillov.
1x flare gun (one time use).
1x tinderbox

In the end, Mikhael found a large piece of Airship coating with which to blanket his comrades, and a candle to light. A tasteful memorial.

Everything burned.
Webs of black, singed skin crawled along Rose's arms, the only remaining evidence of the lightning strike that had left her stranded. A searing pain burst through her arms on occasion, when she had any feeling in them at all. But Rose had more important things to worry about.
"I should be okay in the cold for now thanks to my gear, but I'll start to feel it eventually. Supplies should be my main concern - money won't do me much good out here," Rose muttered to herself, tapping the crossbow at her waist nervously. Her swift pace of movement never slowed, though, as she quickly came upon the source of smoke and flames that was off in the distance when the lightning first struck. Wreckage of what looked to be tens of landships, smoldering in the aftermath of what looked to be the same storm that had grounded her. No transport... but perhaps something useful to be found.

A few minutes of walk through the snow, and junction leads Alexander to a decently sized train station, the platforms covered by a steel and glass arch and a thick layer of snow. The station building is linked with a small garage, its doors wide open, revealing a locomotive inside. The engine itself is quite quite small, but it comes with an adjoining passenger carriage with a sleek design.

Inside the carriage, its quite warm, The thermometer shows just -17 °C. The Insulation must be good. A bottle of champagne, frozen, a boxe of cigars, a top hat, the interior is luxuriously furnished. At the end of the carriage lies the engine room. The hopper has some coal left, but the water tank and the pipes have some nasty cracks in them, perhaps due to the water frozen inside. Perhaps there are some replacement parts around.

1x Limousine (engine damaged).
1x Box of Cigars (optional)
1x Champagne (optional)

Warming: Mild Hypothermia now at -3 Health

A map found suspended on nearby wall revealed a warehouse located on the other side of the station. Along the way, Alexander noticed a strange light, coming from the end of the corridor he was passing through. Who could it be?

An airship, its hydrogen already burned up, leaving a metallic skeleton behind. It was snowing, and not the type of icy snow that the wind picks up from elsewhere, these were soft and thick flakes.

The wreckage wasn't exactly the gold mine Rose hoped for, but at the base of the wreckage she found a small saloon, a broken piano, some books and glassware littering the ground. An inviting armchair in a corner next to a radiator, still a little warm from before the crash. Perfect for breather after all that happened. As she made her way to her seat, she kicked something on the ground. A lighter. A large one, burns bright, Still has some gas inside. With it, she could take a better look around.

As the sailcloth kindled and began consuming the corpses of his comrades, Mikhael bowed his head in an unspoken prayer. It had been all he could do, in the end - the ground was too stiff to dig without tools, and there were no tools to hand. But a pyre, was, perhaps, a more fitting end for those of his brave command who had sought to return heat to the world than being buried in the cold frozen ground.

Circulation had returned to his limbs from his stint before the leaking steam, but now it was time to venture out into the cold once more. That light still beckoned on the horizon and, based on the steam coming from the pipe, had some sort of power and warmth yet.

On the off chance that there were still men living there, Mikhael took a few minutes to hastily patch the damage that had been done to pipeline, using some of his scrap and his best efforts with bending and scraping. Then it was time to go investigate that light.

Repair steam pipe in a ramshackle manner using Scrap, then trudge over to the Clocktower

The little breather besides the radiator was enough to ward off the cold for the time being, but Rose felt that she will have to find a better shelter soon.

Another round of scouring through the wreckage, Rose found the remains of a kitchen. It badly burned out, most of the foodstuffs rendered unedible. Still, there were some items of use.
1x Frying pan
1x Kitchen knife
1x jar of caviar (raw food)

Through a broken window, Rose could see a stream of steam, rising from a broken pipe outside. It was not part of the airship. In the direction of the pipe, she saw a strange orange light in the distance.

Carefully stashing away the loot from the kitchen, Rose looked out to the steam pipe and the light that lay beyond.
"Looks warm. Or light, at any rate. I should stop by the broken pipe to warm up a moment before I head for the light."
Rose quickly clambered out of the kitchen remains and began executing just that rudimentary plan. With any luck, it would be as simple as that.

Making her way outside the wreckage, Rose came across an eerie sight. A man in uniform, lit by a lone candle, his hands crossed in prayer, standing over several frozen bodies. He then covered them with what seemed to be blankets, gathered his things and walked into the shades. He would soon appear again, a ghostly figure in the cloud of vapor that arose from the punctured pipes...

A stranger. These were dangerous times; not the days where you could expect even a foe to stop and warn you before putting a bullet in you. Things had changed. The War had started it. He could recall the moment things had turned, at least for him. He'd been in a trench in the Ardennes, tending the wounded and sharing a cigarette with a friend. On the opposite line, a giant of a man with a black beard rose his head above the line, singing, in a heavy german accent, a penny-dreadful song. These had been the earliest days of the war, when everyone was still all full of the joyful energy of the new endeavour, and so no guns roared.

The German Giant, instead, was met by a squat tommy from Shropshire, joining in with the song. The two trenches seemed to freeze as they watched the two men, gradually daring to dart out of safety more and more, until they had climbed out of the trenches and approached each other. He'd heard of similar meetings in other trenches, but at the time it struck him, this giant and this farm lad sat, as if at a bus station, talking genially, while surrounded by the churned mud, barbed wire and shell holes.

Then, the two had seemed to be heading towards the German line, laughing together. They walked almost too slowly, until at once the silence was broken. To this day he didn't know what had really happened. Only that one moment two men stood, and the next both were gone, nothing but scattered limbs and a hail of bullets, coming quickly from both sides. Laughter caught in every man's throat in a moment, and the grim reality of the thing set in. It wasn't sporting, and worst of all no-one seemed inclined to stop.

Things had only gotten worse with the desperation since. Could a strange, so desperate as he, be trusted in the dark? Still, perhaps he could lead John somewhere warm, could help him. Maybe he could do with help of his own. Whatever it was, he would get a word in before any bullets that were coming could.

"English? Pусский? Francais? I mean no harm, I'd really rather avoid either of us getting shot, I'm sure we've both got plenty of problems as is"

"Hold, stranger!"
Rose's hand went straight for her crossbow, hovering over it with the other hand held high in the air. She slowly approached the obscured figure, waving her off hand back and forth.
"What brings you to these wastelands?"

"Hold, stranger!"

The words pierced Mikhael's awareness as he warmed himself by the steam vent, limbering up his gloved hands for the work of making some repairs. They triggered a primal instinct, and he dropped behind the pipe, groping his bolt-action rifle from his side and peering out over the top of the makeshift cover.

Very little could be seen beyond the venting steam, but he was not taking any chances. He did not speak, unwilling to give away his position, and readied his rifle to put down the interloper. There were none in these lands who were not rogues who would slit throats for a ration or murder for gain. The fiend's only mistake had been trying to put him off guard with a friendly greeting, instead of striking first.

Alexander pulled out his rifle and pointed directly at the stranger the moment he saw that silhouette emerge from the dark. In the old days before the sun went, Alexander used to be a fairly talkative and social kind of guy yet when you'd been marching through the frozen wastes for weeks and weeks, your expedition slowly being worn away by cold, hunger and most horrific of them all: bandits, you start to loose that social nature. It was a shame really, Alexander was just about to hop into the limo and enjoy one of those cigars and if he could fix it up fully maybe even pour himself a glass of champagne.

Alexander sighed to himself as he heard the man call out he could quite easily shoot him on the spot and take his rations yet where would that put him: one bullet down and what's left of his humanity in the gutter. Alexander called out " Well you may have problems but I just found myself a box of cigars and bottle of champagne, but anyways come out to where I can see ya."
