The Galaxy thrives off of news. Every event brings with it an immense desire for it to be chronicled, as the collective Galactic people thirst for knowledge on demand. They may be constrained and limited by the technology of our time, the reliance on the winds, but this does not stop the innate desire of journalists affiliated with the Galactic News Network to bring all information as quickly as possible.

1. The news thread, for the most part, follows real time. As such, posts should reflect this and must be dated. Backdating and forward-dating are allowed by a week behind and a week in advance of the day posted respectively.
2. Remember: this is an in-character, canon thread.
3. Posts should read as if they come from the appropriate body (i.e. private and public news agencies).
4. Keep posts site-appropriate and abide by all NationStates rules.

DEADLOCK IN THE FORUM OF THE COSMOS

Amity, in Assembly Space, has been at the epicentre of political upheaval since the announcement.

Amity, Amity - The revelation that the Elder Council intend to admit a new member species to their ranks sent shockwaves across Núlne. It was an unexpected result of the recent motion passed by the Embassy Races in the Forum of the Cosmos; the resolution of which stated that the Forum unanimously agreed that the Council required a new race. In a surprise move, the Council accepted the request; and proceeded to spend weeks discussing the possible candidates.

When the 'Silent Councillor' Brugmansia Solanaceae announced the Council's final decision over a month ago, however, it was one that was even less anticipated than their acceptance of the proposal. In his announcement, Solanaceae accepted that "this Council [required] a new member", but that the Council had "decided to return" this decision "to the Ambassadors of the Forum".

This curve-ball was unexpected by all but the most skilled of political pundits, and has greatly complicated politics on Amity. Political analysts lauded the Council for their statesmanship, though representatives of most Embassy Races made it clear in their own ways that the decision to return the decision back to them is not one which they wholeheartedly support.

Ambassadors from all sapient species across the known regions are now fighting for the new Councillor position; the prospect of ascending to Elder status is such a rare opportunity for upward advancement that every Embassy Race has been moving to support their own candidacy. Perhaps anticipated by the Elder Council, this has led to immense deadlock in the Forum of the Cosmos; of two votes on the issue, no one candidate race received more than a single vote.

Dhúliva na'Thûnúpa, an attache for Drudari Councillor Áthulé na'Ludôch, has made his patron's opinion on the deadlock clear; "the Embassy Races have shown a complete lack of willingness to compromise" he told us. "if they cannot even come to consensus among themselves, how can any one of them possibly be qualified to enter the Elder Council".

We reached out to na'Ludôch to give us an indication of any candidates the Councillor was supporting. We received no response.

At the current moment, it appears that no one race is closer to attaining the new Councillor seat. Only time will tell who, if any among them, will be able to scrape together enough votes to be declared the newest member of the Elder Council.

INTERGALACTIC SCIENCE EXPEDITION ANNOUNCED

Vermindt, Guchetga Anthwa - The leader of the Cosmic Hierophancy First Speaker Asteraceae, Herald of the Cosmos, has announced to the Interstellar Assembly and the galactic community at large that they are opening a scientific venture to the planet of Pargoen in the Skies of White System. The matter raises an interesting olive-branch to Humanity and the Drudari, specifically, as the Skies of White System is located within 'Troika's Gambit' - a hotly contested, unclaimed, region of galactic space between the Xyn, Humanity and the Drudari.

The science expedition comes after apparent 'weeks of deliberation', in which the First Speaker underwent a key facet of Xyn Law: 'The Desires of the Wind.' Due to the unpopularity of her decision to the wider Xyn public, the First Speaker was forced to exclude herself from the Xyn collective consciousness for a week at a time. When she emerged from her seclusion, showing the public that she believed this decision was worth more than her own well-being, they had to accept.

To many in the scientific community, this expedition promises to be 'an incredible experience.' The Xyn Government has promised to cover all expenses, in lieu to the exclusive privileges available to the individuals once the expedition is done. However, such an expedition is not without danger: all excursions by non-governmental authorities to Pargoen have never returned. These include would be treasure hunters, pirates and colonisers: all of these were sizable flotilla. The Xyn Government has made these dangers known to all applicants, however, have promised 'safeguards' to those who have passed in their applications. These include rumours and promises of a new space-craft, speculated to be designated something like 'Towards A New Future'.

It is unknown how long this expedition is to be undergone for, but numerous of the crew have been shown to the public at large. This include the renowned Archaeologist Daucus Carota who announced his acceptance earlier today.

"It will be an honour to serve not only my people, but the galactic community at large, as we travel to uncover the mysteries of Pargoen. Pargoen, whilst a Xyn colony and world, might contain truths lost to time that the entirety of the cosmos could benefit from" Carota said.

Other individuals who have been accepted onto the expedition include the Silay-Rah Sibble Uisino Widdimur, the stylized 'Esteemed Technician' serving as the mechanic and cyberneticist and Rev'an Dhourakxe, a Carasi Biologist and Botanist. Rumoured to have joined, in addition, is the Urqa paleometallurgist Vraas Tinta Urara Chinyxax and the V'Riiki Aatvykke do Aatryk tsi'Virhalotratkiil.

The First Speaker wished the expedition "success in their endeavors." She further added that "the secrets of the cosmos, or at least this small part, might be uncovered in a world as shrouded in mystery as ancient Pargoen. Go forth, not for nation or species, but for science for science's sake, for the betterment of all of galactic life."

The First Speaker refused to comment on whether this was being done to distract the public from the allegations lobbied against Ambassador Solanaceae. She only said that: "We aren't distracting from the Ambassador's innocence. But to assume that we are covering for a crime that was not committed is an insult to my office: this is a legitimate scientific expedition, a countless time in preparation. Our invitation to the other races was a gesture of good will, given this is contested and currently intergalactic space."

Regardless, many see this expedition - to be known as the Pargoen Posse (or the Skies of White Scientists) - as a unified galactic venture, and hopefully view it as the first of many other cooperative projects to see the mysteries of our shared home explored.
