Sports Roleplay

This thread is meant for roleplaying and scoring domestic/international sports and competitions for nations in the New West Indies region ONLY.
All citizens of the region may roleplay here as they please.

Scorinators are still being researched. However, it is still important that some level of realism is taken into consideration. You are free to conduct the results of games/tournaments however you want in this context, either through randomization or by your own prerogative.

Pretty much any sport can be roleplayed here. If you are going to have a competition with another nation or nations, make sure all parties jointly decide on how the results will be determined to avoid confusion.

Co-OPs: Achipel and Luraqau

Postby Idiocarasia » Tue Apr 30, 2019 6:22 pm

Welcome to the grand arena new year Tournament,
Tonight we celebrate both the coming of the future days, and the fact we are not in fact in another civil war.
now without further ado, I will pass the program over to the announcer.

Please welcome our combatants, coming from all walks of life they will live and die in the arena layed before them. These are the men and woman who've refined personal combat to an art, and they plan on painting the arena a new shade o' red. So who are these madmen you may ask well that's why im here, Introducing:

- Males of the iron spear
hailing from the iron spear tribe Males come in with his classic combination of a 3 point knife set and an iron gauntlet.
he has trained for this day, ultra-close combat is his specialty and he is not afraid to show it with his deadly grapples

- Iroen of val-itza
utilizing some of the only ranged options we have to offer comes Iro... Ier... Tyrone the Combatant of Val-itza using the stone sling.
knocking foes down form large distances or clubbing there heads off with a rock this mistress is not one you want to be on her bad side.

- Gavious of greaen
with a thornwhip at his side Gavious an ex-quickdraw champion jumps into combat whilst spitting as many dated movie references he can.
catching his foes from unexpected angles and disarming them from a fair range he won't let you get a hit off, before he can hit on you.

- saydes of varmal
A small, cunning Verman of a man saydes specializes in misdirection and great-axe strikes this feral being is almost inhuman even by our standards. Fighting him your just as likely to cut off your own head as he is, but when he does try he sees nothing but the blood he craves

- jhon of the Outlands
Outlanded and untribed jhon comes in with no restraints, wielding a gladius and hand sickle he has lost all purpose in life, other than to savagely kill everything put in front of him. the relentless attack, endless slaughter no defence only attack, THAT is the doctrine of jhon.

- savide of Cara
A Big host slicker Savide wealds the all-time classic Axe/shield combo, coming from the lavish life of grand raids and the unthinkable savagery of which is accounting. classic moves, from a grand ol' savage time.

PLEASE WELCOME THESE NEW BLOODS you thought it was just them, no no no those are just the newbies time to say what arena veterans will be joining us today:
- Awkens the iron eagle
Iron to steel, blood to sky. Awkens enter the arena with his Spear/staff Windblade, said to be forged from the metal angels tempered in the fires without source, this spear will weave its way into your heart one way or another. and its wielder Awkens calm for his climate, brutal in execution, no man has been able to strike him down.

- Karnagos the fate axe
Crazed by bloodlust, forged in madness. with his mighty axe of a thousand runes, he broke what fate had for him, cleaved his weakness from existence and is set to purge all who stand in the way of his ultimate glory, to destroy Time. crazed, unpredictable he swings his axe with such fury he threatens the arena itself.

- Mu-gapa the maggot king
He is the king of the Extrodanarly ordinary. a shortsword in his hands he is good at everything. but nothing more. he can do everything well but not excellent he can fight in every style in existence but he is not spectacular at any of them.

- si the wordless warrior
not much is known about Si, mainly because he doesn't {redacted} tell us the {redacted}. we dont know who he is, where he is from, what he does. all we know about this {redacted} is that if you give him something, someone is gonna die. not even a [redacted] file.

Now we know Who is here now LET US FIND OUT WHO WON'T LEAVE AGAIN, HAHA.
-

ROUND ONE FIGHTS:
Welcome to the arena, two enter and half of one leaves ha haaa, in tonight's matchup we have Ir- turo ... Tyrone (in distance: ITS IROEN) the slinger who shoots rocks like bullets matching up against Jhon the Outlander Savage, the cages are to be lowered, the combatants released. let us take a moment in loud prayer to the blood gods, LET THE GAMES BEGIN:

As the cages open the combatants jump to get their weapons Tyrone grabs her silvery ammunition and prepares for her fists shot as Jhon seems to have had his left arm caught on one of the spikes in the cage.
Seems as Tyrone is ready to Let loose and, OH [REDACTED REDACTED REDACTED] YOUR NOT SUPPOSE TO FIRE AT THE ANNOUNCER LADY. (distance THEN SAY MY NAME CORRECTLY).
ok moving on from that it seems as if Jhon was able to get himself loose from his cage spike and has readied his weapons for assault
Iroen gets her next round ready but at this point, it's not a certainty the she may shoot it in time.
Jhon with blood in his eyes, does not stop his hellbent charge, the dust picks up behind him as he books it to his foe
Iroen gets her chance lets the round fly, slamming Jhon in his right shoulder sending his gladius to the ground as his arm recoils from the multiple breaks.
the shot seems in vain however as Jhon with his right arm dangling behind him, starts his charge again until he is too close to be hit by another silver stone.
Iroen tosses another stone into her light leather sling, preparing to use it as a club, readying herself by spinning the sling in her left hand.
Jhon finally gets close enough to get in his first attack, a cross slash with his hand scythe hitting her just behind her right arm and into the side of her shoulder.
Iroen stuck in close combat responds by whipping her sling around to around his left arm and strike his back. the sling with the rock barely held the momentum until with a loud crack struck the raging Jhons right shoulderblade.
with his last weapon stuck in the side of his foe Jhon puls and rips the scythe across her section reaching her shoulder before the flesh gave way and freed his weapon
struck with the pain Iroen clutches her side that was bleeding profusely as Jhon lands the final strike sending his cold steel blade into the right eye of what was once a seasoned warrior. the combat was finished.
in celebration using his good arm, he removed his one was foes jaw and strapped it to his broken arm with a bit of skin as a trophy.

Welcome to The second fight off the tournament, we got Gavious the outback raider, pitting off against savide the big host slicker. without further ado let get this blood sport on the road.

With a loud thunk the cages hit the ground and the doors opened unveiling our contestants.

Gavious recovers from the initial fall and proceeds to strut his way towards center field, as if he managed to have already disregarded the mear concept of death and replaced it with swave confidence.

Savide, on the other hand, seemed to struggle to get out of the cage as the cages spikes kept catching his shield as he tried to leave. eventually, he managed to free himself and carefully went out to meet his foe, holding his shield up as if he was in a testudo.

Gavious waiting started to go around to the edges of the arena greeting those who decided to come. fan fair at the time as it seemed as if time was more important to kill then his foe, who was slowly getting closer, slowly. after a moment or two, he takes out his razerwhip and takes a few potshot cracks at Savide's shield, hoping that he will be able to stay awake until he reaches him.

Savide responds to the cracks and charges, putting as much weight as possible behind the shield he attempts to strike, but it was for naught as Gavious moved slightly to the left dodging the charge completely. Gavious proceded to look at him as if he were a moron.

Gavious follows up on the failed charge by cracking his whip, he struck the scrap armour that his foe had draped along his left arm, but having time he struck another 2 times, one opening a wound across his foes back the other narrowly missing near the head.

Savide trying to recover from the charge spins around and attempts to block any more incoming strikes, fealing none more he lowers his shield and readies his hand axe even though he can't strike from his current distance.

Gavious seeing the lowered guard makes an attempt to strike at the neck of his foe, surely it would be a fatal hit, But Savide managed to twist his axe in the way, catching the whips end midair and pulls on it as if they were in a tug of war.

with both sides weapons out of commission, they move in closer each side trying to rip eachothers weapons from there hands. They are no more than a meter away at this point, Savide using his axe as leverage pulls with all of his might, causing Gavious to stumble forward then proceeds to send his shield into his gut.

Gavious recoiling in pain moves in again moving around and inside his foe's shield. he wraps the remaining bit of his whip around Savide neck, causing Savide to break his grapple, Gavious uses the opportunity to go beneath his opponent's arm getting behind him.

Savide dropped both his whip covered axe and shield and started grasping for his neck as the blade of the whip digs deeper and deeper. this moment allowed Gavious to access and grab his foes axe allowing him to pull harder eventually choking his foe to the point just before death. he then loosened his whip from the axe and used the now open whipstring to tie around his foes remaining appendages. he then dragged the defeated foe back to his cage, Savide made an Audible blood-curdling sound, not quite a scream but the sound of defeat was prevalent.

Gavious then finally tied Savide to the side of his cage and called for the lift to rise, and so it did with Savide body in tow the cage gently raised from the ground. Savide let out with all his remaining might one last bloody scream as the whip cut through his body, his head was then severed and the rest of his body untangled from the constraints of the razor whip.

VICTORY IS TO GAVIOUS TODAY, THE SURVIVORS FAVORED HIM TODAY.

Welcome to the final round in the Round One Rookies Bracket today we decide who will win, saydes a verman of a man or Males who fights with an iron fist. without further ado, LET THE BLOOD FLOW.

at the cages hit the ground with a loud thud, the doors open.
Saydes is the first to scurry out moving quickly with his little body, his axe is dragged behind him generating a small Sand cloud.

Males leaves shortly after, he moves more slowly but calculated, Anything but calm. he moves towards the middle where he shall meet his foe

Saydes doesn't show the courtesy and disappear's into the dust cloud he created not showing a sign of where he went.

Males stopping his advance stays outside the cloud of dust in front of him instead he readied himself, expecting his foe to jump out from it he puts his iron gauntlet in front ready to catch. but as the dust settled, nothing.

Saydes launches a cleaving strike from Males flank, he hits, blood is spilled and the crimson wine gimmers in his eyes, but alas its nothing more than a gash across his left hip. was then stumbled to the side showing signs of a definite struggle holding his large axe and swaying with it when he strikes.

Males brushes off the surprise attack and charges in for close combat, aggressively grabbing and stabbing at Saydes, only hitting half the time as Saydes moves his 3 point knife off to the side before each strike lands, but with inadequate strength, Saydes losses hold of his axe and is punch multiple times in his chest, each strike breaking a rib and forcing the air out of his lungs.

Saydes, weaponless and with death watching from inches away grabs a handful of sand from the arena floor and tosses it in Males face, blinding him momentarily, this gives him time to not only get up put to get behind his blinded foe. with his thin long arms, he grabs Males knife from his hand and stabbed at his neck. blood began to pour from the wound driving him feral.

Males in great pain and with sand in his eyes punches and grabs for Saydes, missing time after time, adrenaline being the only thing keeping him alive, he eventually manages to catch Saydes wrist dropping the knife to the ground, he throws the verman a few meters in front of him, he lands with a thud of sand.

Saydes quickly recovers from the fall and starts to move on all fours, within an instant Saydes pounces driving his teeth deep inside Males neck crushing windpipe and causing the blood to gush even more than before. Males is at that point dead, Saydes then proceeds to drag his body across the arena and into his cage. who knows what happened to the body afterwards.

now, WE HAVE FINISHED WITH OUR NEW BLOODS, BUT THE GAMES HAVE ONLY BEGUN. MEN COME FROM FAR AND WIDE TO PARTAKE IN THESE GAMES NOW DONT THEY... NOW WITH OPEN ARMS AND BLOODY KNIFES WE WELCOME THE MEN OF OTHER NATIONS INTO OUR HOLY ARENA. LETS GIVE IT UP FOR THE LONG ROAD GONE FIGHTERS.

FOR OUR FIRST TWO WE HAVE THE MEN FROM Chawko Dawg
is a blood thirsty wrestling champion who now wishes for a bloodier sport to satiate his apatite, He pops heads off his enemies with or without a weapon *pop*, but when he get his hands on his hammer... watch out, someones someones going to have a bad day

gone to join the circus and came back a marksmanship ace, he won his misstress by hitting a bulls-eye in her husbands eye. he enters combat with his sling and whip. a duelest, entertainer, lover. he wont let up anytime soon

NEXT UP WE GOT OUR FIGHTER FROM Cymiopolis
This merciless killer has honed his craft of combat with the halberd, he can hear not the cries of the weak he crushes or the strong he slays, he fights for his freedom at home, BUT HERE HE WILL FIGHT THE ULTIMATE FREEDOM OF DEATH

Now for the finer touch of the north, WE HAVE OUR KILLERS FROM Kronshtadt
a refined fighter with a apatite for the fresh. he enters his eternal frays with a dueling sword and a sense of nobility. hes been fighting longer than the nations been around and if he has his way, far after too.

we know know who will die in our arena, WE WILL HAVE BLOOD. they may not be of our clans, but they deserve our respect regardless LET THE BLOOD FLOW, AND THE FLESH BE REND.

The cages fall, and with a great crash they hit the ground. "AND WITH THAT LET THE BLOOD FLOW".
The fighters leave their cages, grogg leaves with his hammer readied in his hand, and the Duke walks in the arena, his saber in he Quarte parrying position.
Grogg is the first to make it to center arena, trying to hold the advantage of a flexible position, whilst the duke slowly approaches being sure not to let his opposition have the upper hand. . .. seconds pass as the two fighters move closer to one another, each readied for their attacks and defenses. they eventually reach a distance no longer than sword-length.
Grogg is the first to make a strike, an overhand attack, hes trying to end this early, but the duke parries, follows up with a riposte, a indirect driving the foible into Groggs side, causing him to go into incredible pain. instead of pulling the sword out Grogg grapples the duke forcing him to drive it deeper until the hilt hits skin.
Grogg then presides to headbutt the duke, giving him time to achieve a full grapple. and full freedom to lay into his foe.
the duke, coming back to his scenes grabs for his swords coquille handle, he struggles, as his foe continues to lay into him punch after punch, pommel hit after hit. He grabs hold pulling it through the flesh, grogg stops his attacks in order to reach for the source of his immense pain
the duke, with an Adrenalin fueled strength and resolve uses his spare hand to grab groggs neck, using his force to pick him up, slightly off the ground. he then proceeds to remove the blade fully from groggs hip, and toss grogg to the ground.
the duke, then takes his blade, dripping in crimson blood. and whilst his foe is down but watching, drinks it like fine wine.
Duke Alexandre Karinsky, then gently walks up to his downed foe, and rests the tip of his blade on Groggs right shoulder. then in a instent the blade crosses his neck. killing him on the spot. grogg is dead.

"WE HAVE A WINNER, THE BLOOD-DRINKER Duke Alexandre Karinsky HAS WON TODAY MATCH. MAY THE YOUR SANDS BE COOLED WITH BLOOD KILLER"

Karteria City Wins the West with a Gritty Comeback

John Gordon hitting a game-tying solo home run

They needed every inch to get the West Division crown, and in the end, they pulled it off.

Yesterday's game between the KC Royals and the Wichita Shockers, who were one game out of first place, ended in a Royal comeback once again. The game went back and forth at first, with the Shockers scoring two in the first off number two starter Nigel Kennedy (2.89 ERA). In the second, Ryan Merrifield hit a two-run triple, scoring Keller and Jankowski, knotting the game at 2-2.

After settling down, Kennedy and Wichita starter Patrick Ewing held both teams to five total hits and no runs through 6, striking out 12 and 9 batters, respectfully.

But in the 7th inning, Wichita first baseman Felix Langley blasted a majestic solo shot 430 feet to dead center off of KC setup-man Andy Rivera. After failing to score in the 8th, the Royals's hopes were up against All Star closer Edward Ottavino (1.96 ERA).

Number three hitter Gerald Cortez struck out. Merrifield lined out to left field. The chance to tie fell on the fifth hitter John Gordon. Down 0-2, he fouled off two more strikes. And then another. Another. Another.

By now, everyone was well on their feet, feeling the freezing rain cake the field. People began chanting his name. After working the count to 2-2, Gordon waited back on a curveball that didn't curve, and on one knee, launched the ball into orbit over the concourse in right field. The crowd roared, and miraculously, the game had been tied.

The most incredulous thing wasn't even that. Before anyone could even settle down, number 8 hitter Kirby Marion launched his own hit to the gap, which carried over the fence with the wind, barely out of the reach of the center fielder. Just like that, the game, and Wichita's chances at the division crown, were over.

Despite the questions surrounding the Royals's ability in the playoffs this year to best St. Louis's excellent pitching staff or Liliana's relentless hitting machine, KC's power hitters and offensive spirit may carry the day once again.

Royals Take Game One; Redbirds Draw First Blood
    By Victor Tardigrade
    Chief Sports Analyst
    Updated December 3, 2140

Cecil Carpenter, in his first postseason start, went 7 strong innings and gave up one run

The St. Louis Redbirds won tonight 4-1 against the Liliana Rangers in a premiere matchup between the two best teams in the league. The two teams had clashed 21 times, with the Rangers winning 13 of those games.

In his first start in the Postseason, Cecil Carpenter, de facto ace for the Redbirds with a 2.21 ERA and 213 Ks over the regular season, threw a gem. He gave up one earned run over 7 dazzling innings, striking out 11 and baffling Ranger hitters all night long. Following a strikeout of Veronica Fielder to end the 7th, he yelled out with a fist-pump, more than earning his win.

In Karteria City, the Royals took a hard-fought victory over the Shockers. Throughout the night, both teams went back and forth, each responding to the other at every turn. In the bottom of the 6th, KC's 3rd baseman Hunter Dozier slammed a monster home-run off Shocker reliever Victor Blanco, knotting the game at five.

Following a run-scoring single by Keller in the 8th, Royals had the one-run lead and Carter Davis, one of the game's most elite closers, on the mound. However, Felix Langley ringed a double to the wall to start the inning. Pitching coach Hector Eiland came to the mound to calm him down. Following the talk, Davis fanned the next two hitters with 96 mph fastballs down the pipe.

Everyone was on their feet now. Russel Keiboom was up next. Down 3-0, Davis came back with back-to-back curveballs to get back in the count. After a long sigh, he winded up for the next pitch. And just like the last two hitters, it was a fastball right by him, sealing the 6-5 win.

Feel free to start posting rosters and roleplaying! This can include responding to others; some of the most intriguing RPs come when you work with someone else. The CONAEFA Championship emphasizes roleplaying--writing posts about individual matches or the tournament as a whole. This could be anything from newspaper articles about a game your team just played to your manager's halftime talks. RPing does not guarantee success, but it will increase your chances of doing well.

Rosters include the names of your players (association football has eleven players for each team playing at a time; teams usually are allowed to have 23 players on their roster), as well as any other information you'd like to include about them. That can include their positions, ages, club teams they represent, or other facts about them as individuals or your country as a whole to help your opponents roleplay.

With your roster, please include a style modifier, a number ranging from -5 to 5. This shows whether your team is more focused on attack or defense; teams with high (positive) modifiers will both score more and give up more goals, relatively speaking, while teams with very negative modifiers will tend to score and concede less. If you do not post a modifier or a roster, this will default to zero.

You should also give RP permissions to your opponents, letting them know whether, for instance, they can roleplay about injuries to your players, give your players yellow or red cards, or "godmod" (roleplay in a very unrealistic way).-- (Copied from Baptism of Fire 71 post)

For examples of information to include in rosters, you can look through the roster thread for NS World Cup 83. One sample of a permissions box is:
My opponent, if they RP first, may do the following:
Choose my goalscorers Y/N
Godmod scoring events Y/N
Roleplay injuries to my players Y/N
Godmod injuries to my players Y/N
Hand out yellow cards to my players Y/N
Hand out red cards to my players Y/N
Godmod other events Y/N

where you replace Y/N with "Yes" or "No," depending. It's fine to go into more detail, too, such as "you can give my players red cards, but at most one per game."

Once again welcome to Joshenia, all the best as you battle for football supremacy after 127 years.

CONAEFA Day 1: Excitingly Inconclusive
Answers due at upcoming Transalpine Derby
Image
Jean Loubet, stopping a beautiful on target shot by the Fotballs Förbund

Yesterday evening at the Mikando Arena, in Baladena City, the Eagles played against the Nordic States of Europe's Fotball Förbund. After 90 minutes the referee whistled a perfect 0-0 draw, advancing neither team within the pool phase. The combination of this draw with the 0-0 between Joshenia and the North Italian Union means Group A still has no hierarchy.

The match was quite an exciting one, apart from the fact it gave no satisfactory liberation or cathartic celebratory moment. Instead, it was painful to the viewer to see the Eagles and the FF fight it out with spectacular attacks, only for them to be aborted by much more skilled defences, and the occasional fingertip save.

It is likely that Pierre Lévy is going to be focussing on his central players. The diamond formation offered by the 4-2-3-1 formation did not seem to be effective enough at ferrying balls all the way to the front formation and Lemaitre, who's only shots ended on the sidebars or in the Nordic Goalkeeper's arms. The Equipe Royale can be prouder of its defensive wall, that blocked Nordic attempts to get the ball into Celestial nets. Yesterday brought very little light on the possible evolution of Celestiam in this Cup, and future matches should be better at giving out results.

Tonight, for instance, the Equipe Royale is playing against the fearsome Padanian from the North Italian Union. If relation s between the countries are excellent and monarchs are bound to be having a good time, the players will certainly be quite aggressive. The Padanians also came out of a goalless draw with the host Joshenian Team, and will be trying to score the first goal of Group A. The Italians are renowned for their efficient and aggressive attacks, bound to be a challenge for the cohesive defensive wall, helped by excellent defenders and a strong 4 person column that is bound to be challenging to even De Bono. But the Italians have a strong frontline, and underestimating them is certainly not in Levy's plan.

See you tonight at the mythical Orami National Stadium, in the Capital city of Paradis, where the two transalpine teams will hopefully give us quite a show!

Signing off, Frédéric Fremont, always there for the fans.

North Italian Union - Celestiam Match

Image

Good evening signore e signori we are here in live on television from the Paradiz capital of Joshenia! Our team is preparing for the match, the stadium is getting crowded already with thousands of north italians and french people. His Royal Majesty King Nicola of Habsburg-Savoy is also present in the tribunes together with Queen Consort Eleonora. Despite the hot arid joshenian climate the field is slightly wet since it had rained during night, a symbol of good luck for the locals, and that's what the team is hoping too. The previous match against Joshenia ended in a deludent draw, it is time to show the world what italians can do with a ball.
This match is important not only for that but also for the opponent nature. Celestiam and NIU are historical allies and friendly nations but on the football field their rivalry is traditionally called "Derby of the Sister Kingdoms" or "Transalpine Derby". As you can see the Ultras are getting crazy already!
The FPGC is playing again on a 4-3-3 formation hoping to break through the lines of the Equipe Royal of Celestiam that was using a clever 4-3-2-1 formation. Enzo Fieramosca the goalkeeper and captain of the team is giving encouraging messages to his team mates. That's all from RAI Sport TV, keep following us on our social and here on the national TV channel to see what will happen this evening! May the best win, Forza Padani!

Five Sicilys Matchday Two Preparation

Postby Five Sicilys » Tue Mar 31, 2020 11:18 am

Pre Match Team Talk

As our team walks off the bus into Afarawo Park before our match against Frellor there was a buzz and a bit of nervousness in the atmosphere. We had won our first match in this competition, but we are now going against the other winners of this competition. As the players got ready in the dressing rooms Manager Teogene De Pasquate and Assistant Manager Niccilò Viglione gave their pre match speech to the players. "We did a great job wining our first match to start off the Competition on a high note but now this is a new challenge. Should we win we all but guarentee a spot in the knockout rounds. Should we lose we have another chance on matchday three but Five Sicilians don't strive for last minute winners, we strive for comfortable margins we should play with confidence but not over confidence. Play like we mean it and that we could be champions in this running of the CONAEFA Championship." After this inspiring speech the Managers went over the team tactics for this match. "In the terms of attack I want our forwards to attack their goal create many shots and shots on target and keep them pinned back in their own half. Should we lose the ball press hard in order to get it back but be smart about it. Going forwards the central midfielders should support our forwards and wingers and our wing backs should push forward along the flanks supporting the midfielders. Going backwards the wingbacks should fall back to form a back five to limit their movement around us." With these tactics and the speech in mind the Five Sicilian players walks out of the dressing rooms, onto the pitch feeling refreshed and ready for the match.

Motivational speech

Postby Celestiam » Tue Mar 31, 2020 11:26 am

Changing room, Orami National Staidum
Paradis

Pierre Levy, the manager of the Equipe Royale, was not out of his sedan that he was already running towards the locker room, where the players of all genders and from all four corners of Celestiam were changing, showering, and collectively releasing their stress.

"Messieurs, Mesdames! Stop everything you are doing, your old manager has words of supposed wisdom for you!" he yelled, as soon as the door was closed. It was not important that the team was less than presentable. As they say "Lévy, c'est la Famille".

"How do you recognise a Belgian at a Cockfight? Nobody? The belgian is the only one who brings a duck"
The team smiled

"How do you recognise an Italian at a cockfight. Well, he's the only one who bets on the duck"
This time he got a chuckle

"But how do you recognise a Mafioso at the cockfight? Well, kids, you know there was a mafioso when the duck wins"
The room erupted in a light stressed laughter.

Some seriousness now, for we do not want to be the ducks of the story. The Padanians are no joke, these are people who have been around for so long, their founder probably was born the same day as Emilie VII. These people will run you over, they will mow you over. They will look for any fault, and they are gonea break it open. These are not a bunch of amateurs and bumbling pizzaiolos. The men you are going to be fighting, because that's what it is going to be, tonight are fricking war machines.

They will look out for the stereotypical flaw of us Froggies: arrogance. We all want to be the night's hero, we all want to be on the cover of l'Equipe tomorrow. But remember, kids, if we lose you'll all be on the front page, hanging your head in shame. I want you to give your best...to others. That's right. Tonight I do not want to see a hero, or two heroes, or eleven heroes. I want to see a team, an army, a group of young men and women who are worthy of carrying the golden cup in the air. Tonight I want to see collective. I will honour the player who has passed to a better positioned player as much as I will honour the scorers. I will honour the one who will have sacrificed a scenic action to keep those Padanians far from our surface. I will honour the player who has played for the collective, who has no glorious action, whose name doesn't appear on the record, but who has given their very best for the team to succeed!

Les Enfants, I will honour those of you who understand that tonight we are not playing the FC Nizza or some random Savoyard team in an irredentist pride. We are not playing for Playboy, l'Equipe, or some stupid calendar that will sell itself with fake nudes of you. Tonight we are playing for Mom, for Dad, for your kids, cousins, nephews. We are playing so that tonight Celestiam can drink and cheer. We are playing so that the Eiffel Tower will light up, that our cafés will fill up, and that the world can see that we are a team who can win, for a nation that can party!

But for this, I want you to give your best to the collective. I want you to play like you will be glorified as a team. I guarantee that you will get more admiration if you let your egos and your arrogance down, and the Italians will be hella pissed, and will make their Italian hand gestures! You can do it!

Here's one for the road:
Do you know what is written on Italian busses?

Don't speak to the driver, he needs his hands.

Play well, the Nation and I are behind you!

With that the charismatic figure was gone, and the players finished preparing for this great match.

Pre Match Team Talk

The teammates were busy in the locker rooms. The match was starting in minutes. The guys were joking to release the stress.
"Oh Ragazzi! This time we have to fight like we did in the 2006 World Cup!"
"Ahaha let's not bother that glorious victory for a match like this Enzo!"
"Yeah, Filippo is right the frogs will probably surrender as soon as the referee will blow in the whistle!"
The team erupted in laughter, although most of them were nervous laughters.
"Giovanni! You are always so harsh with the baguettes, it's not their fault if they don't know how to play football! Ahahah"
"Or how to make war!"
"O a come fare l'amore!"
Another loud laugh.
"Ok! Team that's enough! Please remain concentrated I'm sure we'll do great tonight. But be careful the french are strong and well trained. Now let's prepare I can already hear the Fans cheering for us!"
"Vinceremo!"

Manager Pierre Lévy clapped with the rest of management as the match ended in yet another draw. 2-2 against the Padani was not a score to be ashamed of, and the match had some beautiful actions. Yet it was now time to speak to the cameras, and Lévy tried regaining his composure.

The predictions were not good. Gli Padani had to play the last of the group next, while his team had to play the top of the board. Many with common sense realised that the Padani had a better shot at the precious second place of the group, and that despite a drawed match and a fantastically balanced level of play, it was likely that they would move on, while the Equipe Royale would go home, even if they somehow manage to pull a draw against the team that shattered the Fotball Förbunds against which they only drawed. In fact, drawing would be worse, as the players would probably not recover from the feeling of injustice of not moving on to the knockout rounds despite having lost no match. To add insult to injury, the Equipe Royale would be forced to move through the country, while the Joshenians at home will be staying in Baladeni and regain forces and train while the Celestials lose time commuting. The defeatist were calling for forfeit.

But Forfeit was not in Lévy's vocabulary, and forfeiting after such good play was out of question. He realised that his mood, how he showed himself, and how he spoke galvanised his players and the fans. He realised that being optimistic, funny, and upbeat was as much part of the game of football as hitting the ball itself. The players had done their part, it was time for him to do his. Emerging from backstage, he was greeted by the flickering lights of cameras as he stood behind the microphone, ready for journalist questions.

Image

Mr Lévy, what is your feeling after your team's performance tonight?
By and large I am proud of them. The Transalpine Derby has never been a walk in the Park for anyone, and the way they played tonight and the final draw result is, in my opinion, the sign that they are behaving like a world class team. Of course there are moments I was disappointed, even angry, banging my fists against the table and yelling "Merde!". Be reassured, they'll hear more of that than you will.
Lévy winked at the camera, as if the spectator miles away was right there, before moving on to the next question.

Tommorrow the Eagles are playing against the Golden Eagles of Joshenia, who have played quite strongly tonight. What is your plan?
Now now, if I have a secret plan, why would I let you guys in?! You never know, Joshenians can watch Celestial TV too!

More seriously, the Joshenian team is an aggressive attacking one, as shown tonight with the pounding they gave our Nordic friends. This necessarily comes at the cost of defense, and even though they haven't conceded a goal in this competition yet, they haven't seen us either.
You can see where this is going, if football was about a strong attack or a strong defense, nobody would ever win matches. Victory is not about being good offensively or defensively, but being a good team. This is what I told my players before this match, and what I will tell them all day tomorrow: that it is the cohesiveness of our team that will decide of our results.

Speaking of results, some commentators are predicting that since only an unrealistically large victory against the powerful Joshenian team can save the Eagles, we have lost the tournament tonight. Do you agree?
Your commentators are full of sh*t, believe me. While the Golden Eagles celebrate and rest on their laurels tonight, our team that ahs played two intense matches and got two draws is going to deliver like you never saw them tomorrow. The illusion that it is their last match will exacerbate this against a team that doesn't really care about the result. No, no, believe me, you'll be seeing the football of a lifetime tomorrow.

If the situation is so nice, how do you explain teams with more defeats than either the Eagles or the Padani will be passing into the knockout stage?
Because this is how draws and tournaments work. You guys are getting high level play at the very beginning, so what are you complaining about?

So did Celestiam lose the tournament ever since the groups were made? Are you imputing a potential defeat to bad luck?
Hell no, and let me tell you, if you were in my team you'd be running a hundred laps around the field for being so unpatriotic and unsportsmanlike. It is not the draw that will define how we play. If we play to the level that our excellent players can play, we will have absolutely no difficulty. If I, the guy in charge, can see this, then so will you

What do you say to the fans tonight?
Go to Mikango arena and show them what being a Celestial means! Toot horns, fly flags, sing the songs that boost us. Not only because your players need you, but because I guarantee tomorrow night is going to be one of the best football matches you have ever seen, and you would miss out on a lot if you just watch it on TV.

Now goodnight journalists, I actually have work to do!

Walking out of the camera fields, wrinkles of tension appeared on Lévy's face. Calling on Charlotte de Gouges, his assistant manager, he requested

"Get us out of Paradis and into Baladena tonight rather than tomorrow morning. I want to have all day with the players tomorrow. Pay the hotel in Baladena what you need to, and get the jet ready. Let's fly out of here. It is night time, and the Joshenians aren't training now, but if we use the day to move I can guarantee we are going to be like insects fighting bulls tomorrow. Let's get outta here. And while you are at it, tell the players I want them at the Baladena training field early tomorrow. It's going to be a long day. "

N.S.E. National team training ground:

The players are warming up on the training field in Stockholm. The players are training on ball control and after that how to keep the pressure on after losing the ball. The goalkeeper has been top notch all the time and same with the defense but the attackers has not been on the top of their games. Now the midfielders are passing the ball around while the defenders are trying to get it.
"Okay, boys! Now for the training match, you have to believe that you are on the field against another club in the final so you will have to, focus, commit and to have the will to fight for our country. Football isn't just a game, it's better so now, fight like in a final. You won't win without commitment and training, this is hard so you better try! Okay ref, start the training match!"
The whistle blows and the training match is under way. Team A is currently passing the ball around and team B is acting aggressively and trying to get the ball but then there is a long ball from team A and the ball flys to the attacker and it's a 1v1. The attacker slots it in easily amd it is 1-0 to team A. Team B is taking the ball and pushing it up field and then the left wing dinks it into the box and the attacker heads it on target but the goalie keeps it out. Its a corner for team B. They pass it to a player making it a short corner and then he passes it to the center mid that is standing outside the box but then a defender tackles him. It's a foul. The free kick taker is the right mid and he dinks it into the box and the right wind volleys it into the goal, 1-1. It's half time and both teams go for a break. When the second leg is underway team B starts but looses the ball quickly and it's a counter attack and it's an easy finessed shot into the bottom right corner, goalkeeper didn't have a chance, 2-1 to team A. Team B starts once again and they pass it around till' they made a move and they have a chance to shoot but the shit is blocked and team A is on the ball again and have another counter attack but this time it's saved by the keeper. The whistle blows and the final result is 2-1 for team A in the training match.

Training Field, Baladena
Early Morning

Team Training

The sun was not up since long when the training field assigned to the Equipe Royale ceased to be empty. The players had risen early, and while there certainly was worse than a private jet flight followed by a night at a nice hotel, they also knew today would be an important day. Lévy had not promised an intense day of training for nothing, and the perspective of the Derby of the Two Eagles to be played tonight made their bodies burn with passion and rage.

On the field, the legendary Pierre Lévy was already there, having traded his suit for the Equipe Royale jersey he had worn when he was a player. A sign to the team that he was among them today.
"Aight kids. While I saw some very beautiful play yesterday evening, I also saw things that comparatively need to be changed as promptly as possible.

The two goalies, your training is going to be straightforward: stopping shots, and seeing how you relaunch the ball. Goalkicks are frequent, and Joshenia's aggressive style of play means many shots will go behind the nets, and be kicked back by you two. I want you to consolidate how to create uncertainty and momentum from those kicks. And of course, strengthen your ability to make last ditch saves.

To make sure this doesn't happen too often, I will need you defenders. There's 4 of you, and only 3 attackers, you should be able to shut down Joshenian attacks. You are the wall between them and the goal, but I want you to behave like a smart wall. We'll go over the main tricks and some tackling, so that you know what you're up against tonight and can get the ball out of their feets before they can even shoot it.

Midfielders, you are going to have the hardest job of all. You played well, you will need to do even better. I will talk to the AMs in private, but just so you know I'll make sure you can count on them to be a trio tonight. And I want you to use the advantages of the diamond formation in the centre? As such, a lot of today will be about passes for you. I want to see more in-depth and accurate passes, remember that the ball runs faster than any Joshenian defender!

Attackers, you need to be able to translate passes, into shots, and this is what training will be about for you today. But I also want to see you in the midfield when they have the ball. these are the Joshenians, and we have no players to spare. As such, after some shooting and reparation surface training, you'll be joining the midfielders, and then try to break into the defence. Lemaitre, you'll be shooting with the goalkeepers.

That is for this morning. We'll end the morning with a Team A vs Team B match, the winners will get some time in the hotel's jacuzzis before we go to the stadium.

What Lévy didn't tell them was that everyone was getting jacuzzi today, it was important that all his players be fresh. But they didn't need to know, did they? An impercetible grin passed on his face.

Have I been clear? Yes? Ten go to work, we have Eagles to beat! François, Hisham, Emmanuel, some with me, we need to speak.

Hisham, Emmanuel, you are Attacking Midfielders for Asterix's sake! I want you to always be there, between the midfield and the frontline. You'll be running on the field tonight, and I want you to be ready for that. Don't forget that we need a midfield of three if we want to have a chance, and you are the third person. Don't make the mistake of not paying attention at what is happening behind you. You will be training with the midfielders and the attackers today. Go!

When only François, the Captain, was left, Lévy took him to a table representing a football field. Players were represented by figurines, such that the table had a chessboard-like look.

The Joshenians play 4-3-3. This has some immense advantages for them. They have three people in the midfield, while we only have two DM's and an AM. You need to make sure the AM is with you, and feel free to pool from the LW's and RW's when the Joshenians have the ball. We cannot allow ourselves to have a weak midfield, because the Golden Eagles have a formation that doesn't forgive that.

4-2-3-1, what we play, is very central. It is easy to forget the wings, on which 4-3-3 play. It is both a blessing and a curse, we need to be extra careful about wing surges from the Joshenians. Tell your players to be mobile, to be able to stop the side attacks.

Now we did their strengths, let's go for their weaknesses: their centre is less efficient than ours, and I want to exploit that. You are a midfielder and a captain for a reason, get those passes past their own midfield and then they re gonna have some trouble. The distance between their midfield and their defence is insane, that is the flaw of 4-3-3. The Joshenians have countered it by placing a DM between two CM's, trying to connect the two lines. That DM is a checkpoint, their only link between the defense and the midfield. We don't have this flaw, they do. I want your LW and RW not to hesitate to converge towards the centre to pressure that DM when we have the ball. Incapacitate him as much as you can, but stay in the rules, I don't want to see penalty shots given to the Joshenians. Keep a very ver very sharp eye on that DM, whoever it is. Abdulazziz and Manda are not people to be joked with. Now go train with the rest of your team
.

As François ran towards the training players, Lévy stayed around, inspecting each training post, advising trainers and trainees, but not without making a call to the closest local Joshenian restaurant for them to get a truckload of the best Joshenian food. He wanted to train, not exhaust, his players after all.

Joshenian players celebrate their second goal.

The Golden Eagles came into this match frustrated after drawing against the Italian Padanians. A hundred years ago the host always put up a good performance in the first match. Most Joshenian funs felt the players had produced a lacklustre performance. The game was filled with diving, fouls and misplaced passes from the Golden Eagles players. The only chance of the game against the Padanians came in the 72nd when Padanian goal keeper, Enzo Fieramosca made a mistake passing the ball to Joshenian striker and captain, Chicha Jobinho. However, Joginho failed to make use of the chance and balloned the ball over. This poor miss angered Golden Eagles funs who called for the Captain to be removed as team leader on online social media platform Howler.

In the pre-match interview before facing Nordic States of Europe, Captain Jobinho defended himself and the team saying that the North Italian Union were a strong squad thats why they had drawn. He went on to say that he and the team would work harder then ever to make all Joshenians proud. The match agaisnt N.S.E started slow, with the Joshenian players moving the ball around but unable to break through the N.S.E midfielder. This changed in the 8th minute when Foster Kaphale scored from a corner kick. This gave the Joshenian players confidence who begun to dominate possesion and dance around Nordic players. Their possesion was rewarded in the 21st minute when Herny Cristianodinho crossed the ball into the box, which was recieved by Jobinho who quickly dispatched it into the Nordic goal to put Joshenia 2 up. After the second goal the Nordic players seemed to wake up and had 3 chances on goal but were unable to beat Joshenian goalkeeper, Jean Zibaba. The first half ended with Joshenian players and funs smiling.

The Nordic States of Europe may have experience blitz attacks from Germans before hundred of years ago but did not expect it to come from Joshenia in the second half. Joshenian came from the break with more hunger for goals and launched blitz after blitz of attacks. In the 55th minute an amazing blitz attack ended in a brilliant curling shot, 35 yards out from Oradinho which went into the Nordic goal. A few minutes later Jobinho scored his second goal of the game to put Joshenia 4 goal up. This goal had the Joshenian funs roaring in celebration, indeed Joshenia was proving its athletic supremacy. The game seemed to be over but not for Jobinho who was ever hungry for goals, causing problems for Nordic centre backs. In added time Jobinho scored his third goal after chipping the ball into the Nordic net putting Joshenian 5 goals up.

After the game Joshenian manager, Hassan Kambalame praised his teams performance but warned against overcelebrating as they still had a game agaisnt Celestiam. He praised Celestiam defensive style and commented that the game agaisnt them would be a challenging one but his team was read. New Strasbourg, Majestas, 39 Light Years away

"Hé Barman, are you planning on turning that darn TV on?" one client asked. Jean turned around to see a regular sitting at the very end of the bar "And bring me a glass of Chardonnay while you're at it!"

"As you wish, Greg, but you're only gonna have the ads and the nonesense-people on Celestiam 2 at this time"
"Then I'll get another Chardonnay when the match starts. Hopefully with some other people"

Greg's wish became true as the door opened and a cohort of customers gushed in, with Celestial colors painted on their faces, Celestial flags, horns, and costumes. Even on the other side of the galaxy, fans were there ready to watch the Derby of the Two Eagles, that was to oppose Joshenia to Celestiam.

Jean pressed on the remote control, and the TV started lazily turning on, before the image froze. Now stressed, Jean walked up to the telly and banged it with its fist a few times. The image stabilised. He knew that if he couldn't get the TV working, the customers would go across the street, and he'd have an empty bar on a match night.
Hitting the TV a few more times and heavily cursing in French, Jean got what he wanted. On the screen, the presenter of Celestiam's leading sports channel was blattering about the match to come.

"Oh it's definitely going to be an interesting match. I think Lévy is going to replace his midfielders in the midgame, he knows these are the players that matter tonight...

"I cannot let you say this Patricia" the voice one anchor said "we both know all players matter equally and it's about the team. That's what Lévy said and I believe him..."

"...You're forgetting the circumstances tonight, André, we got a team that absolutely must win tonight if we want to have a iota of a chance to move on later..."

"Alright sir, madam, our viewers don't have time for you two to make your debates: the question everybody is asking is: what can we expect tonight.

"You can expect a nice match" Patricia immediately started "it's going to be good soccer. How the Joshenians will play is still a mystery, will they have the same energy knowing they're pretty much already qualified? I am not so sure.

"One again, Patricia, I respectfully disagree. The Joshenians don't want to lose, if the Padanians win the hosts could not accept that Celestiam and NIU move to the knockouts while they stay out. No no, they are going to fight to the last man, and this is why we need to be worried. Hopeful, but anxious for our boys and girls on the field..."

"I have to interrupt you here" the main presenter apologetically said "It is time for commercials"

A roar of anger and disappointment crossed the now semi full bar. Jean didn't care, he was serving at all speed, and didn't have time to look at the screen anyway. Ads showing superfast personal starships, Celestial Airlines commercials to go to Joshenia, and why ItalDrill is the best place to get your starship fuel; one that generated comments from the CCE employees in the room.

"Match is in one hour"! One person in the room scremed, and Jean's small bar erupted in singing the Marseillaise. This was going to be an interesting night.
"Well
