I think the Habsburgs need to reclaim the throne so that Austria can once again be the superior German state. Re unify with Hungary, and you'll give the EU a run for their money.

The current head of the House Habsburg-Lothringen, the last surviving cadet branch of the House of Habsburg, is a supporter of the pan-European movement. Specifically the pan-European movement begun by Count Richard von Coudenhove-Kalergi. The very same Kalergi of the "Kalergi Plan" that a neo-Nazi might invite you to Google in the hopes of you falling to a nest of conspiracies about EU plots to erase the white race.

The heir to the thrones of Austria and Hungary, and a heap of other titles, doesn't want there to be an Austria, nor a Hungary, nor any other European country, but rather one pan-European state.

A silly term that is not only comparing four vastly different historical states (an extremely decentralized elective monarchy whose sense of unity was so small that its statelets regularly went to war with each other; an imperialist constitutional monarchy; a totalitarian one-party-dictatorship; and a multinational political and common market organization) but is also implying that German history somehow has a "natural default state" of being an empire, as if periods like, say, the Rheinbund, the German Bund, the Weimar Republic, and the German partition during the Cold War don't count. Nevermind that Reich does not actually translate to "empire" as such but rather "realm/land/domain" - France and Austria, for example, are literally called "Frankish Reich" and "Eastern Reich" in their German names. Really, the only reason why people use the term is because it gives off Nazi vibes and therefore makes for good meme/polit trash talk material.

Honestly this. The only reason a specific group of reactionaries (and make no mistake, that's the only group that unironically suggests the EU to be "the fourth Reich") suggest that is because the common man thinks of the Nazi regime when hearing the word "Reich", and thus the term has a negative undertone behind it. The same people would probably make some quip about "The modern Continental System" if the EU was an entity during the Concert of Europe.

All the hyperbole about EU and NATO being basically Viertes Reich notwithstanding, The EU is just another imperialist superpower seeking its own benefit in the expense of its member nations and European citizens. The clichés about it are repeated ad infinitum and once you criticize it or promote secession from it, you are branded alt-right or other assorted terminology uncomfortable for the liberal and progressive part of the population. Of course, the one who rules, sets the stage, the rules of the play and the ideological hegemony.

It's just that having to hear someone compare something to the Third Reich to make people find it opposable is a really fucking mind-numbingly bad of an argument. When you give credit where credit is due to the welfare state, you get told to move to North Korea. When you oppose the EU, you want Russian overlords. When you want a democratically and nationally owned and operated media outlet which at least aims towards less bias and better journalism than privately owned media outlets or give credit to your public school system where credit is due, the deep state brainwashing is at work and I have to swat guy fawkes mask-faced dooby-snarfing pseuds from left and right.

This is what kills discourse online. Help keep the internet clean.
