Lions & Labyrinths: Christian Knockoff D&D

Welcome to Lions and Labyrinths, for all the people whose mothers wouldn't let them roleplay because of Jack T. Chick pamphlets and instead sat them in front of the television for a hearty helping of Bibleman!

Keep in mind that I will be making all the rolls for you guys, including your initial stats (As per D&D roles, you can assign your assigned numbers to whichever stats you'd prefer. This will be a functional game with a functional plot, but there will be winks and nods to D&D, the current state of Christian society, and a number of other items. This is by no means meant to bash Christianity; rather, it's something for everyone, with self-referential humor for Christians and good solid gameplay and/or fun facts for everyone else.

Below are your options for characters, with their respective D&D counterparts in parentheses. Practically everything here has at least some basis in the Bible, which I would be happy to explain upon request. If you have any additional ideas that's rooted in the Bible but which has practical application in D&D, I'm all ears. Where it can't be explained, D&D rules apply. For example, Humans have the race bonuses as found in D&D.

Feel free to use D&D for Skills, Proficiencies, and Defenses. Armor, weapons, and prices will be posted later.

First Point: You are more than welcome. I will help you if you're stuck and/or need advice, but this is foremost a Dice RP enriched with satire and references which you don't need to understand to enjoy.

Second Point: Nephilim are only mentioned twice in the Bible:

"The Nephilim were upon the earth in those days, and also afterward, when the sons of God went into the daughters of humankind, and they bore children to them." -Genesis 6:4

"And they presented the report of the land that they explored to the Israelites,[a] saying, “The land that we went through to explore is a land that eats its inhabitants, and all the people whom we saw in its midst are men of great size. 33 There we saw the Nephilim (the descendants[c] of Anak came from the Nephilim), and we were like grasshoppers in our own sight, and so we were in their eyes." -Numbers 13:32-33

Pretty much everything that we know about the "sons of Anak"/"Anakites"/"Nephilim" are that they're noticeably tall and probably strong humans. Imagine Goliath from the story of David and Goliath. I don't recall any half-human/half-angel examples in the Bible, so those are unavailable.

Third Point: Dungeons and Dragons famously has a system of alignment which everyone loves to use: basically, how nice are you (good, neutral, evil) and what is your stance regarding the written law (lawful, neutral, chaotic)? For example, if I steal from the rich to give to the poor, I don't respect the law (chaotic) but I do have good intentions (good): [b]chaotic good. A character like Les Miserables' Javert, who will see any criminal no matter how downtrodden behind bars out of a sense of duty, would be lawful neutral, since he has no ulterior motive. The point of the joke here is that modern Christian doctrine dictates to always be good and to always obey the law. As a result, the only option is "Lawful Good," but I do accept other alignments.

This seems rather interesting. As I am not familiar with the rules of DnD, I hope that their application will be orthodox rather than legalist.

Roshanak does not have wings for ears, her three sets of wings are pure white and roughly 4 times the size depicted, her hair is copper ginger in colour, and her outfit is, obviously, far more modest than depicted.

Just as a disclaimer, I myself have only played, like, five minutes of D&D. Seriously, it was just go there, wait for three hours for them to get to a stopping point, then introduce my character, then everyone's out of time. I'm familiar enough, I think, that I can get by.

Roshanak, you get an odd set of rolls. Ultimately a better-than-average stat set, but you do have a 4. {17,15,8,10,4,15,16,17,12,13}

I just now realized that I didn't include a biography entry in my RP's application. Feel free to write one down if you want to, but this isn't going to be the RP where everyone reads blocks and blocks of text. I'd rather not accidentally start that trend in the OOC.

Bio:

Naphtali was born as the second son and bastard of Ishmael, leader of the Saechmer tribe. Naphtali's father legitimized him shortly after his birth. His father had disdain for Naphtali, as he wasn't as muscular and physically strong as his half brother David. Being the second son wasn't easy for Naphtali. While David joined the ranks of Saechmer's elite mounted infantry, Naphtali learnt to hunt with bow and arrow, to gather resources for the tribe. His brother and other mounted infantrymen would often ride out on long marches, riding down the sandy banks of the Beraskai river and the dry valleys that surrounded mount Encilei. At the age of sixteen, he and his brother got into a fight and he fled his from his father at the age of sixteen to avoid disciplinary punishment for wounding David.

The young boy was forced to hide in caves, which is where he first found God. After the second night of hiding from Saechmer tribesmen, he woke up, noticing that he had lost the ability to see. He could hear angelic voices, voices that seemed were familiar to him for some reason. It was at that point that God started speaking to the boy. God told him that he should leave the cave and that he should no longer dwell in a cave. That he should go out and listen to the tales of his son, whom many had started calling Christos.

The boy didn't waste much time, and climbed out of the dark cave. All he had to his name were his clothes, strapped to his skin, the quiver filled with arrows, and his bow, held tightly in his hands. After walking several days, he found a group of adventurers, and told them about God.

Reluctantly, they decided to let the boy in, mostly because of his friendly attitude towards the others in the group.
