University of Athens uncovers lost fortress, begins excavation

The University of Athens has recently uncovered an ancient fortress near its campus. The top structure was revealed as the University's construction crews were laying the foundation for a new building, the Azimov School of Engineering. The site has since been closed off and the ASE has been relocated to another part of the campus. The discovery brought shockwaves throughout Asteria as it was thought all ruins had been discovered almost 20 years ago. A spokesman for the university, Constantinus Petrovich, said in an interview:
Image

The discovery of this ancient fortress is a boon for everyone in the scientific community. As we focus on excavating the fortress, we will discover new knowledge and information about our past never known before. I speak for everyone at the University when I say I can't wait to see what we unearth.

President Azimov has applauded the initiative, saying that learning about the past is a vital step in marching towards our future. The President has allocated a $250,000 government grant for the University to excavate the facility. President Azimov is expected to make a trip to the fortress next week.

Political Updates, EC exit, and economic update

The primary is officially started with a total of 6 Candidates running. 4 conservatives 1 liberal and 1 candidate from the economic nature party. President Cortez and Congressman Rafik both remain unchallenged but conservative polls show the following.
Senate Majority leader Henry Bowman- 35%
Governor of Northern Portugal Migu Gonzalo- 30%
Former Governor of Valencia and Senator Rico Randlos- 26%
Former President Diego Angeles- 9%
In looks like liberal candidates may keep control of the lower house but conservatives may grow their majority in the upper. Out of the Six Rykovian candidates running for congress only one race looks competitive.
In a shocking move earlier today Senator Henry Bowman proposed allowing Queen Mary to receive the power to dissolve the lower house whenever she sees fit. If this motion passes the senate this will be the first time the monarchy holds this power since 1959. Bowman has usually been a supporter of limiting the monarchy's power so this move has caught many in the capital off guard. Liberals are calling this a move to get the lower house off the senate leaders back and a step towards communism.

Two EC members are exiting the alliance in the coming days. Kosovo and Kakanj have both announced they will be joining Asteria in some sort of alliance. The EC has announced they will meet and re-negotiate with the members but are waiting for HLR to set a time and place.

Camino Nuevo has made breakthroughs pertaining to the S. Pylori poultry virus. The lab did say a cure hasn't been found yet but with each day they get closer and closer. The pharma also announced a new vaccine to fight the flu. The vaccine will be provided to all hospitals and clinics around the EC and Alicia.
Mucha Ropa have started a new campaign called "Be you not just Blue." The clothing company released new designs in many colors , even bright yellow!!
Bair Jolsanaro have announced they are looking for a new executive designer. Anyone from the age of 16 and up can enter. The only catch? You must pay the $1200 application fee.
With poultry around the world becoming scarce Alician chicken and egg farm, Huevos Guillén Sociedad limitada, have took advantage and began selling chicken to countless restaurants and countries. The poultry giant has even took to buy three other farms to accommodate such the demand.

NNN Opinion: The Impending Doom of Nice-Pontivy

      February 5th, 1995

It would be an understatement to say that Nice-Pontivy is in turmoil. From the near-constant strikes from the Pontivy political faction to the bureaucratic mess of the Nice-dominated Confederal government, the country is paralyzed from top to bottom. The bi-cameral Parliament, which is made out of two houses for both constituent states, has been locked in an eternal stalemate as each house refuses to pass each other's bills, and no recent PM has lasted more than a few months. In the midst of this, the people seem to be turning to more radical solutions to the problem. Out of this mess emerged the Federal Party. Though outsiders may see it as simply the next step in the progress of the Confederal system in any other case, back in 1993 this solution would've been unthinkable to both parties. Corentin Martin, the leader of the Federal Party, was quoted laying out his plans for the nation.

A real Federation...a comprehensive reform of the legislative system...this will save Nice-Pontivy. We will pull Nice-Pontivy out of this mess together. ...God save Nice-Pontivy.

However, with the current political situation split between the Nice and Pontivy camps, it seems unlikely that the Federalist Party will gain traction. Indeed, even within the Nice faction rumors of a military coup, Pontivy succession, and civil war rage. In a cruel twist of irony, the unofficial motto of Nice-Pontivy has become far more relevant than many first assumed it to be.

      God save Nice-Pontivy.

    Refugee program expanding
    Controversy surrounds new KiwiVision movie
Yangaean Cruise Lines sets maiden voyage

    Refugee Housing

    Image

Yangaeans are fortunate to have little strife here at home. Homelessness is relatively low, and average income is more than enough to support a household. Even past this, the government welfare programs have proven to support the poorest people here in our great nation. However, not everyone in the world can relate.
The peace and prosperity that we are lucky enough to have is far from universal, and plenty of nations struggle through political strife, rampant crime, and environmental disasters that leave innocent people stranded and unsupported. Our chiefs have rightfully recognized this problem as well as our responsibility to do what we can to alleviate this strife. Most readers will remember the Mbale drought a few years back, that left hundreds of thousands of people at risk of starvation. 1000 of these victims were welcomed into the Yangaean Refugee Rescue program, in its infancy at the time. The drought has since passed, but 860 of the refugees still decided to stay in Yangaea, after the three year program helped them get jobs. This group of people served as a very good model, and proved that the program is effective and achievable on larger scales.
Given this early success, Yangaea has decided to expand the program and reopen applications. The above pictured facility can house up to 4,000 5-person families, or 20,000 refugees. The standard course for these refugees is three years; the first year focuses on basic education and settling in their new homes, the second focuses on training and apprenticeship in trade careers, and the third focuses on preparing the refugees to settle permanently. It is not free, and while the housing is free for the first year, the refugees have rent taken from their paycheck in the second and third year. They are required to stay for the first two years, and can choose to leave the program anytime in the third year.
The application process is selective. There are billions of people in the world, many of which qualify to some degree, but only 20,000 spots are available. This year the accepted applicants is limited to 1,500 families, with priority given to those that are in the most imminently dangerous situations. In the coming years, more will be accepted, and hopefully the facility will be kept at near capacity as people move in and out of the program. The following regions and countries will be the highest priority for this first class of refugees:

    Nice-Pontivy
    Maharashtra
    Saharan Federation

    New KiwiVision Movie

KiwiVision has announced a new controversial documentary to come out in the coming months. Where did the Micks go? chronicles the mysterious disappearance of people of the Mick ethnicity in 1994. The film has already brought on debate, given that many people don't believe the event ever happened. Jackie Snow, the director, however, claims that they have unearthed nearly undeniable evidence of foul play through the investigations and interviews for the movie. It is set to come out April 25.

    Yangaean Cruise Lines Sets Sail

    Image

After years of construction and planning, Yangaean Cruise Lines has announced its first itinerary. The ship Plumeria (pictured above) will sail a 20 day voyage, visiting Velnavei, Kadavu, and the United Polynesian Islands. YCL is owned by KiwiVision, the same entertainment and tourism company that dominates film in Yangaea and runs the Lavaland amusement park. The first voyage will not be open for public purchase, but personal invites are instead being sent to some of the most powerful people in the world. Rumors suggest that invites are being sent to some heads of state, CEOs, and various celebrities. The ship can carry 350 passengers and will set sail March 1st. After this trip, YCL will begin offering more trips with tickets available to the general public.

      NNN Exclusive: Yangaea vs Nice-Pontivy?

      February 8th, 1995

      The Yangaean Refugee Fleet
On February 7th, a refugee rescue fleet set sail from Yangaea to pick up Nice-Pontivy refugees fleeing from the political crisis. They have been estimated to arrive around February 13th. Yangaea has declared that an attack upon this fleet will be considered an attack on Yangaea itself.

Alicia has sent its fleet out to escort the Yangaean refugee fleet, prompting the Nice-Pontivy fleet to sail out to prepare for the Yangaean arrival. The Navy has announced that they will only allow the refugee fleet through if they follow proper Nice-Pontivy immigration laws. However, the Yangaean fleet's captain, Captain Hamm, put out this statement about Nice-Pontivy's immigration laws.
Frankly, we do not respect the utilitarian and evil immigration laws that are preventing these innocent people from being safe.

This has provoked an unusually united response from the Parliament, and even the general public of Nice-Pontivy. The navy, after this statement, declared its intention to turn back the Yangaean refugee fleet peacefully.

      Nice-Pontivy united, for once
Tens of thousands turned out for unplanned protests against perceived Yangaean interference. Experts have commented on the situation, with one saying:
This is honestly should've been expected by the Yangaeans. France has always been xenophobic, but South France is much more so. They are hellbent on solving the issue themselves, rather than having other countries deal with it for them.

Our correspondents on the ground interviewed several protesters and asked their opinions on the Yangaean statement. One had this to say:
This country, while bad, is not dangerous. Just because there are strikes does not mean this country is in civil war. Nice-Pontivy is still safe, if not a good place to live. I still believe we can save this country, even if the two countries must be separated.

      Xenophobia
Of course, there are many still who want to leave the country. However, with the general public's fury aroused against the foreigners, they do not feel safe even in their own country, despite the general opinion that Nice-Pontivy is still fairly safe. Many seeking to leave the country have claimed that they have faced harassment and threats due to them intending to leave. Local authorities have declared their intention to stop the harassment, but it is clear they are also siding with the public on this issue, as the self-proclaimed refugees have said that police are ignoring their complaints.

      Unprecedented Bi-partisan Actions?
The DCP and the UCP, the two main sides of the Nice-Pontivy political crisis, have put forward a joint statement denouncing Yangaean breach of their national sovereignty. Experts say that this is likely not an indication of any future cooperation outside of this issue, but merely a reflection of the popular opinion against Yangaea.

Politburo Declares Chicken Purge a Success

      Image

After rounding up and exterminating several billion chickens and other infected birds the Songjiang agriculture ministry has stated that the join effort has been a success.

however replacing the lost livestock has been more difficult since many of the nations with large amounts of the required livestock are currently infected.

The peoples republic of Songjiang is allotting 100 billion to replace the lost birds nations willing to sell will be given $100 per bird but the birds must be uninfected, and the nation of origin cannot have any cases of the Virus within its borders.

It has been reported that most of the funds for the purchases is coming from the HSBC, and Aztechnologies who has been buying up affected chicken farms since the infection hit across the world.

      Ministries Accept European International Highway

      Image

The Dutch Ministries of Justice & Security and Foreign Affairs have signed off on the Netherlands becoming part of the currently in progress International Super Highway being constructed by the members of the European Council, intended to make travel between member states easier for citizens.

While the bill to construct this new "Super Highway" in the Netherlands has been passed by the respective ministries it pertains to, parliament has yet to vote on the bill, but is expected to make their decision by the end of the week.

Elections for the House of Representatives

      Image

It is time again for the election of the Dutch house of representatives. On February 21st, voters across the country will head to the polls to vote for representatives of their respective states. The election results are expected to be announced the day after voting ends, on the 22nd of February. However, the victorious candidates will not take office until January of 1996, as is typical.

However, due to the unfortunate timing of the representative elections, the vote on the European Council's International Super-Highway's construction will be postponed until voting is over, in order to allow voters to focus completely on voting for their candidate of choice.

NNN Exclusive: The Race is On

      February 22nd, 1995

The Parliament is, as we all know, completely paralyzed.
The Nican House: (dark blue is UCP, light blue is DCP, grey are independents)
      Image
      and the Pontivi House:
      Image
are at loggerheads about the future of the Confederacy.
The elections, which are scheduled for August 1st, are shaping up to be the some of the most controversial elections of our century. Here is a look at each side of the election.

      The United Confederals
The United Confederals are widely seen as trying to defend a failing system. Their supporters claim otherwise, stating that the Confederacy is being weighed down by Pontivi successionists, who are trying to undermine the Confederacy and its dream. Many UCP candidates promise great economic reform after they win the election, including plans to aid Pontivi workers, which has brought many Pontivi voters to their side. These great economic plans seem feasible, but only if the UCP wins both houses, which is doubtful. Alain Clerc, current PM and leader of the UCP, said this in a recent interview:
The radical dialogue from the other sides is quite frankly ridiculous. Real change will come when we win the Parliamentary race. I ask our Pontivy brothers whether they truely respect the Confederal system, as their dialogue of potential succession amounts to treason. Our party will stop the Pontivy successionists from ending our nation.

      The Democratic Confederals
The Democratic Confederals have tried to break up their reputation as Pontivi partisans by appealing on both sides to separate peacefully. They have been campaigning on the premise that the Confederacy has burdened the two nations to the point that the only solution is out, for now. Although they claim that the Confederacy is still a good idea, they say that while the current system remains in effect, the two countries cannot remain together. They encourage a reforming of the Confederacy when both countries are ready for such an endeavor. Many are skeptical that they actually want to reform the Confederacy, and indeed the rhetoric from the DCP has been very nationalistic, implying they will always remain separate. DCP leader Lucien Dugard said this about dissolving the current Confederacy:
When Pontivy and Nice are separate, and this disaster of a Confederacy is over, then all will benefit. This Confederacy has weighed both nations down, and quite frankly, it is time to act to end it.

      The Federals
A relative newcomer to the political scene, the Federal Party encourages massive reform to the government to make the Parliament far more powerful, including reorganizing the houses into a upper and lower houses. The Federals claim that this solution will help resolve the quagmire that is the current system and will help both sides get what they want, and this system is appealing to many seeking change, but still desiring something resembling a Confederal System. Corentin Martin had this to say in his most recent speech:
We will win this election. The Confederal Parties have ignored the people for far too long. It is time for change. [applause]... The Federal Party will reform the government and get us out of this crisis. [applause]

      The Francophiles
French nationalism has always existed, and even both World Wars couldn't snuff it out permanently, although it has never been as radical as WW2's France. The Francophile Party, an old but until now minor party, have seen an upshoot in support following the Yangaean refugee fleet setting sail. The Francophiles advocate for a complete end to the Confederal system and instead propose a Unitary state, with a strong president and bicameral Parliament. They argue that since France has nothing dividing it except the borders decided upon following the World Wars, that the Confederal system is completely unnecessary and only promotes further division. Thibault Gossard, leader of the party, said this in a speech:
France since World War One has always been divided by petty regional squabbles and political handwringing, but we have all forgotten that we are all French. We speak the same language and have the same culture. There is no reason for a Confederal system when there is nothing besides politics dividing the people of France.

      Where do the Independents lie?
With the parties at each other's throats, the burden of getting things done has often laid at the hands of the independents in both houses. However, it is clear that many independents are leaning towards one side or another. Many have expressed views similar to the Federal or Francophile party as well, leading many to believe that either party could control the Parliament, although this seems unlikely. Only one thing is for sure in these troubled times: the elections will be controversial, and might just tear this country apart. Only a miracle can save this country now.

      God save Nice-Pontivy.

Santa Rosa officially releases South Barnetia from occupation

SAN JOSÉ, SOUTH BARNETIA — The Armed Forces of Santa Rosa have officially withdrawn from South Barnetia and the federal government has declared that the occupation is over. Santa Rosa invaded Barnetia alongside the American Federation in 1991 and the country was split into a north and south occupation zone shortly after. The liberation of South Barnetia comes about a year after North Barnetia was released from the control of the American Federation. The delay in the Santa Rosan release of the part of the country could be attributed to several factors, including the transition to democracy, the Panama Canal, and the economic integration experienced in northwestern Santa Rosa.

The Panama Canal zone will remain in Santa Rosan control until January of 2000, as per an agreement with the American Federation. The Cola administration stated that the purpose of this is to ensure the canal's security. Additionally, a small garrison of Santa Rosan soldiers will remain in the major cities of South Barnetia while the new government forms an army.

South Barnetia, officially called the Democratic Republic of Barnetia, is now governed by a provisional administration headed by President Juan Serna, a social democrat and a physician from the capital of San José. Serna has planned to call a constitutional convention, advocating for a "democratic, social, and independent state" and eventual unification with North Barnetia.

"The Sin of Father Eduardo" stirs controversy, hits box office records

SANTA ROSA — Award-winning director Guillermo Montiel's new film, The Sin of Father Eduardo, has sparked outrage, praise, and record box office results following the film's release last Sunday. The film, roughly based on a 1883 novel of the same name, portrays a youthful Roman Catholic father named Eduardo, portrayed by Sancho Almeda, beginning his life as a priest in an fictional Santa Rosan town. In the movie, Father Eduardo has to deal with a senior priest that takes money from cartels and a left-winged priest that aligns closely with the idea of unity with the rising Mbali church. Additionally, Father Eduardo is infatuated with a village girl and has his vows of celibacy tested.

The film was criticized by many Roman Catholics in Santa Rosa, with the Archbishop of San Pablo even calling to boycott the movie and the studio that produced it. It broke box office records, grossing $20m on the first week alone. Critical reception was moderately positive, praising the film's relevant critique of the Church but expressing annoyance with the melodramatic plot.

      Backing the Guilder?

The Dutch Government has decided, through many stages of painstaking decision making, to resume the backing of the Dutch national currency in both gold and silver. This project is expected to cost vast amounts of government money, therefore the government has also seen fit to cut military spending by 25% to appoint more money to the purchase of gold and silver international, so that we may build up our new federal reserve.

      Image

While a great deal of the Guilder will become backed in either silver or gold, a portion of the currency will remain fiat, in order to retain elasticity and not become set on a certain exchange rate.

The Dutch Government emphasizes that they need a great deal more gold and silver in order to make this deal happen, and request to purchase large amounts of raw material from any countries willing to sell, offering slightly greater than the current going rate for the metal to make it well worth their while.

President Cola proposes presidential term limits

CIUDAD BELDAD, SANTA ROSA — President Terence Cola, during an interview with Canal 5 News, stated that he is a supporter of "strict term limits" for the office of the President of Santa Rosa.

"We have no reason to be living in a society where leaders are expected to rule for life," Cola said. "The office of the President should be occupied by a statesman rather than a caudillo."

The president is elected to a four-year term every election. There are currently no term limits for the office, and one can run for president and be elected as many times as they please. The first president of Santa Rosa, Juan David Beldad, served three terms. Enrique Gabler, the fifth president, served four. Gabler was then overthrown by General Bautista Ortiz, who proceeded to rule for 23 years. After the fall of Ortiz and the return to democracy, there was a popular movement to amend the restored Constitution to add presidential term limits, though the effort eventually fizzled.

"I am willing to work with our colleagues in Congress to make sure something like this is passed," Cola said. "I hope that I will be the first president of Santa Rosa to be restricted by term limits."

PM-Pope Returns from Trip to Santa Rosa

      March 7th, 1995

      Image

He spent two weeks giving sermons at the Bahia Negra Cathedral to consol the victims of the great tragedy that occurred there. He also visited the Campus of the Bahia Negra University and gave a speech to over 1,900 students. The Pope O'jibu traveled to various negro communities outside of Bahia Negra and showed the generosity of the Catholic Church first hand. A grand total of $4.5Mn worth of toys, books, and community funds were handed out by the Pope to underdeveloped communities.

First Republican Guard division deploys in Ciudad Beldad

CIUDAD BELDAD, SANTA ROSA — The first division of the Republican Guard of Santa Rosa, a newly formed military force, has completed training and begun its deployment in the capital city of Ciudad Beldad. The 12,500-man force is tasked directly with defending the president and the executive branch.

President Cola proposed forming the Republican Guard during budgetary debates in Congress last year as a way of coup-proofing the executive government. He stated that President Tito Pérez attempted to form such a division to defend himself from the insurgent Santa Rosan Armed Forces, but ultimately did not have enough time.

Though not explicitly stated by the President, the Republican Guard seems to be a counter-weight to the Santa Rosan Armed Forces, which are much larger in size and of which the President is still Commander-in-Chief. However, the Republican Guard is separate from the Ministry of Defense and is more directly involved with the President's orders and appear to be much more like a personal security division than an offensive fighting force.

In addition to the formation of the division are new rules for the military as a whole, forbidding any non-Republican Guard armed forces from entering the capital without express permission from the President.

Senate holds hearing on Barnetia occupation

CIUDAD BELDAD, SANTA ROSA — The Federal Senate has held its first public hearing on the events of the occupation of South Barnetia by the Santa Rosan Armed Forces today. Among those who testified were Maj. Gen. Jefte Bonturi, who was in charge of the occupation.

The Committee on the 1991-1994 Extraconstitutional Period, chaired by Senator Marcel Casal (PSD), is responsible for oversight and investigation over the period of the military dictatorship and has assumed the responsibility of conducting related investigations in the occupation of South Barnetia. Sen. Casal and his colleagues grilled Maj. Gen. Bonturi for about seven hours today, attempting to have him admit to collaborating in the coup against the Pérez government.

Bonturi stated that he was simply following orders handed down from above him in the chain of military command. However, he refused to clarify who he recognized as the commander of the military before the coup: President Tito Pérez or Minister of Defense Paul Oppenheimer. Bonturi also didn't clarify whether or not he recognized the removal of Tito Pérez from office as a coup.

The Committee did not immediately recommend any charges against Bonturi and stated that it would be holding another hearing in the short future.

Football natl. team coach resigns following abysmal MILF performance

CIUDAD DE SAN PABLO, SANTA ROSA — Jorge Metzger, 43, has resigned as the coach of the Santa Rosan National Football Team and stated that he is retiring from professional sports altogether. This comes after the team's catastrophic showing at the Men's International League of Football (MILF) games, where Santa Rosa was defeated by the Hong Kong team in the first round in an upset 4-2. Santa Rosa's team is historically known as world-class, as many of the game's best players have originated from this country.

"It was my honor to serve as the team's coach, but it seems my time has come to step down and let a new generation leadership take charge of our beloved team," Metzger stated in a press conference.

Axel Porto, 39, a former player for the team, has been hired as the new coach.

Patriarch of Bahia Negra praises Mbali pope for visiting Santa Rosa

SALVADOR, SANTA ROSA — Buenpensar Tshinga, the Patriarch of Bahia Negra, has expressed praise and gratitude to Prime Minister-Pope Matubo O'jibu following his extended visit to Santa Rosa. O'jibu came to Santa Rosa following the mass shooting at the Bahia Negra Cathedral last December.

"We are blessed to have His Holiness as our Church's leader," Tshinga said during Sunday mass, "for he has spiritually guided so many of us in our times of trouble."

(OPINION) It's time for a new conservative movement

by Juan Carlos Weiss — Last year, leftist political parties achieved record poll results in the national elections. The Senate, National Assembly, and executive branch are all occupied by avowed socialists and communists, while the right-wing parties are diminished and dwindling.

To say that our own party was not at fault for this defeat is denialism. The Liberal Republican Party's presidential candidate was none other than Antonio Lardesi, the head honcho of the military dictatorship's cabinet and a collaborator in the coup d'état. It was oxymoronic for the party to nominate him. We cannot claim to be liberals by nominating a man who held political prisoners, nor can we claim to be republicans by nominating a man who cared so little for the constitutional rule of law.

The truth is, the people of Santa Rosa have not become less conservative. It's just that they are at a loss for who to support politically. Does the PLR represent the voice of the little guy, the small business, or the traditional family, or does it represent massive corporate donors and military oligarchs? Besides the National Democratic Party, which has been tinged by radicalism and racism, it is the only option that these middle-class conservative Santa Rosans have to vote for.

If we want to resist the authoritarian leftist policies of this government, us conservative lawmakers and leaders need to break from the scandalous past of our political instruments and institutions and form a new conservative movement that the people of this country can trust. Because the truth is this: socialism does not represent the voice of the citizenry of Santa Rosa. We need to give them their voice back once more.

Juan Carlos Weiss is a member of the National Assembly from the Fifth District of the State of Santiago. He is a member of the Liberal Republican Party.

Persian Sultanate an Odd but Increasingly Popular Destination

While many have lambasted the leftist shift in Santa Rosan politics, the actual policy passed by the Cola Administration has removed many of the "pay for play" barrier of the old military dictatorship. Large corporations and small businesses alike have found the higher tax, lower barrier environment much more appealing and as such business permit applications have beat out last year's figures by 42%. With the American Federation and Santa Rosa now at peace the general mood of investors has improved significantly and money is pouring back into the Americas.

Scares over the admittedly benign S.pylori outbreaks and general fears of military activity in the region have lowered tourist turnout. Hotels in Santa Rosa have taken to offering room prices that effectively put them at a loss with the hopes that room service, car rental, and bar revenues will offset their costs. Executives from various travel firms have commented that tourism should increase once it becomes apparent that the Santa Rosa of old is no more.

      Healthcare bill elevated into law
A healthcare bill proposed by the Secretary of Health to the Presidential Council has been passed by President McCarthy. The bill was proposed shortly after Toluca, and the struggling Barnetia, had become part of the Federation. Secretary of Health Clark McKinney stated that he saw the bill as "absolutely vital" for the lifestyle of Toluca and Barnetia's worst.

The bill, dubbed the Healthcare Act of 1995, includes free, or compensated medical care for the Federation's poorest. This includes doctor visits, some surgeries and dental, but excludes speciality healthcare such as optical or physiotherapy. To find out if you qualify, visit your local municipal centre.

Among these changes, funding is being re-allocated to make healthcare for the middle more affordable. Basic health insurance is now mandatory for citizens who are included in certain income brackets: $20,000 for one person households, $45,000 for two person households, $65,000 for three person households, $90,000 for four person households and $115,000 for 5 person+. A person in this definition only includes adult income bringers.

The costs of giving birth are drastically reduced, from roughly ~$1200 to about $150.

Estimated results of this Act are expected to drastically raise the socio-economic rating of areas in Toluca and the Caribbean, especially in cities like Mexico.

The issue of funding has cropped up with how the government plans to afford this ambitious act however President McCarthy assures the populace it will be managed.

Political Updates, International affairs, the economy, and more!

With only 2 and a half months left in the primary season the race is tighter than ever, among two of the conservative candidates at least. Former Governor and Senator Rico Randlos dropped out of the race earlier in the week due to "fundraising issues." He formally endorsed the only other Governor in the race, Governor Migu Gonzalo of Northern Portugal the same day stating "Governor Gonzalo is the strongest candidate to face President Cortez in the general." New polls have been released showing Senate leader Henry Bowman pulling 44% of the vote. Bowman expressed anger towards Randlos endorsement for Gonzalo stating "Some of the parties most known names are against me all because my parents were immigrants. I am an Alician." Governor Gonzalo doesn't trail far behind polling 40%. Former President Angeles, who many are saying is running only for publicity, is rounding the field out at 16%.
President Cortez and Congressman Rafik both remain unchallenged.
The motion to allow Queen Mary to have the power to dissolve the lower house of congress is now on the senate floor where it is expected to pass. The lower house has been threatening to not hear or vote for anything in the lower house if the motion does pass. Leader of the lower house Michael Lorenzo stated if the motion passed he would appeal to the high court to overturn the senates decision.

Earlier today President Cortez held the first press conference of this month where she was questioned on multiple subjects. One being the ongoing crisis in Nice-Pontivy. President Cortez stated
I respect the sovereignty of our neighbors and know the people of NP will elect who they see fit to run their great nation. I do however offer my help in anyway i can. Immigrants wanting a fresh start in Alicia are welcomed with open arms, legally of course.

The President was also asked about the on going S.Pylori virus saying her administration was exploring options as to what to do but as of now are working closing with Camino Nuevo to find a cure. She did urge Alician citizens to try and buy locally instead of from grocers.

Camino Nuevo while working on a cure for S.Pylori also discovered a new medication that has been approved by the Alician government. The medication is called Prinivl is used for heart failure, hypertension, and acute myocardial infarction has already been ordered by hospitals across the EC and Europe and is already saving lives.
Aerial Difusion has released plans to released new jets in the second quarter of 1996. Airlines across the EC and in Alicia have ordered them. The jets will be able to sit anywhere from 122-242. The aircraft company is marketing these as lighter jets that use less fuel making tickets cheaper. The company is also negotiating with the government to begin construction of fighter jets.
Bair Jolasnaro chose there next top designer, a 20 year old student from Madrid. The student is breaking glass ceilings by being the companies first openly gay designer and has used his new platform to surely be heard, gay marriage is still not legal in Alicia. The luxury clothing line was contracted to make the championship rings for the Alician Futbol team. The clothing line is set to release its summer line soon.
Mucha Ropa has began a new campaign to go over seas. The company stated "We have distributors, stores, and factories all over Alicia which employ thousands but its time we set our sights over seas." The company does own a factory and stores in Barnetia but want to explore other places. The company has decided to launch lines in North America first. Factories and distribution centers will remain being called "Mucha Ropa" but stores and tags on the clothing will read "Clothes Galore."

Justice ministry issues indictments for dozens of military dictatorship officials

CIUDAD BELDAD, SANTA ROSA — Minister of Justice Rino Tafani held a press conference today where he formally announced the indictments for several government and military officials during the military dictatorship of 1991 to 1994. All of the indicted have been accused of charges of high treason.

Among those facing trial is Paul Oppenheimer, who acted as President during the entire dictatorship. The General's legal defense stated that Oppenheimer, who has faced health and aging problems in the past months, would be unable to be present during the trials. In addition to Oppenheimer, former Vice President Admiral Yves Fiore, Chief of Staff Gen. Higini Giese, National Police Director Dario Regenbogen, the members of the legislative Government Junta, and many of the generals and commanders who supposedly assisted in overthrowing President Tito Pérez were included in the list of indictments. Notably absent was Antonio Lardesi, who was the Prime Minister for the latter part of the dictatorship.

"These individuals have caused reckless harm to our country and our democratic and constitutional institutions," minister Tafani said. "We will be pursuing the harshest possible sentences."

There are two legal definitions for treason in Santa Rosan law. The first is the charge of "high treason," which is defined as a "violent attempt, successful or not, to overthrow the existing constitutional order of the Republic." Capital punishment is an applicable sentence for crimes of high treason. The second is "standard treason," which is defined as "action that intends to overthrow or assist in overthrowing the existing constitutional order of the Republic." The maximum sentence for standard treason is a life sentence.

Tafani also clarified that the indicted were given a grace period by the President's executive order regarding amnesty by assisting in investigations, and that none of them chose to take that option.

The Supreme Court will be hearing each trial individually. The trials are expected to start by the end of the year.

Persian Sultanate an Odd but Increasingly Popular Destination

As summer comes many families look for ways to escape the heat, and ski resorts are the current trendy choice. But where to? The Alps? Pavlovsk? Japan? Well, how about the Persian Sultanate? As it turns out, the sultanate is home to several snow caked mountains that have very affordable vacation packages. For as little as $120 a family can stay in a modest cottage with unlimited access to skiis and snowboarding gear. Compared to the Alps, its practically free. That seems to be enough to get its now over 10,000 visitors to ignore the unstable history and authoritarian structure of the Sultanate. To its credit, Sultanate police have done nothing to halt the tourists and a small, seasonal economy has set up show on the more mountainous regions of the Sultanate. If you're on a budget, maybe a trip to Persia might be right for you.

      NNN Weekly Recap

      April 10th, 1995

Quite a lot has happened within the world over the past week.

      Protests over militarization
Exactly one week ago, protests began over the issue of over-militarization. The Parliament has passed a law that would end conscription in response, but no comment has been made over what activists call an overbloated military budget. Jaime Trudeau, one of the top activists responsible for this campaign, had this to say,
The threat of Lache is gone. We have cordial relations with all our neighbors. We can no longer justify our overbloated military budget.

So far, the DCP has supported this campaign, while the Francophiles have opposed this campaign. Both the Federals and the UCP have made no comment on this protest, but PM Alain Clerc implicitly defended the budget in a speech addressing the next major event in this issue.
Thousands of Francophile supporters started counter-protests defending French militarization. Local authorities have been so far successful in preventing confrontation between the two parties, but experts say it is only a matter of time until the two factions collide.
      Image

      Alicia-Algiers Naval Confrontation
A naval confrontation began on the same day, caused when Algerian ships started becoming much more confrontational with Alician ships. This escalated over the day, going from the Alician ships intercepting Algerian ships to lethal force being authorized by the Algerians. The Nice-Pontivy Navy confirmed on the 7th that the Mediterranean Fleet briefly set sail between the 4th and the 7th due to the threat of spillover. Currently, the crisis seems to have cooled, with both sides backing down.
      Image

      Francophiles on the Rise
Recent polls have showed that the Francophiles have been rising rapidly. Experts say that this is due to a number of factors, including aggressive campaigns and French nationalism. They are still far away from winning a majority, but this shows that French nationalism is still a force to be reckoned with.

      UCP-Federal Coalition?
Rumors emerged over the week that the UCP and Federal Party are in talks concerning a coalition. These are unconfirmed rumors, of course, but the UCP has recently stopped broadcasting ads slamming the Federal Party, and in turn the Federal Party has not addressed the UCP in some time. Only time can tell what will come of this.

      UPWU in negotiations with UCP
UPWU spokesmen confirmed over the week that the UCP was in negotiations with UPWU over ending the months long transportation strike. Experts say it is unlikely that anything will come of this, but the UPWU spokesmen were strangely optimistic about the future.

Primary Results, Camino Nuevo, and Bair Jolsanaro

The Primary is finally over and the results are in! After Former Governor and Senator Rico Randlos dropped out of the race and endorsed Governor Migu Gonzalo polls surged in Gonzalo's favor. The conservative results are as followed

Senator Majority leader Henry Bowman- 42%
Former President Diego Angles- 12%
Senator Bowman did endorse the Governor and both came forward with a ambitious plan. The two vowed to work together to bring together EC members to renegotiate all deals pertaining to the EC or if they have to exit the alliance. Governor Gonzalo selected Rico Randlos to be his running mate in the general election. President Cortez and Congressman Rafik both won their primaries unchallenged. The first general polls were just released and should send a message to President Cortez that her desk in the presidential palace may not be as safe as the may think. After the following poll was released Former President Diego Angles announced he will run as a independent.
President Cortez- 48%
Governor Gonzalo- 46%
Congressman Rafik- 6%

Camino Nuevo had a breakthrough in their lab in Madrid and discovered a cure for the poultry and primate disease and offered the international community the cure, given by Camino medical officials, but no nations applied. The pharma did state they were "disappointed that it seemed more of a race as to who can discover a cure first instead of who can obtain it and administer it." The company confirmed the offer to the international community was still on the table.

Bair Jolsanaro have found new success in Asian and middle eastern nations with their new line named "Oriental collection." The collection was designed by the company's new designer. The company has announced plans to hire designers on the African Continent to help co-design a design focused on the African nations. The Oriental collection is available all across Asia and the middle east.

      BUREAU OF MINES
      6/14/1995

Sheng Shicai, in his glorious wisdom, is announcing that Persia's mining industry will be rapidly modernized for the new age. Most importantly, the previous scattered energy systems that power Persia's mines will be connected to a central power grid in Urumqi, under the thumb of the sultan for better productiveness. Additionally, more money will be invested into the burgeoning mining industry, which with the help of Ghabari representatives in court will over a period of 15 years privatize fully, saving aforementioned power grid. Miners are advised to return to their normal routine, and prepare for new equipment soon.
