Some people will try to tell you Northumbria is just North East England. It isn't. That's wrong and, to me, a horrifying idea. I don't have a map on hand because most maps of Anglo-Saxon England are shit, but just so you know according to me it's these places:
- West Lothian
- Midlothian
- East Lothian
- Berwickshire
- Peeblesshire
- Selkirkshire
- Roxburghshire
- Northumberland
- Durham
- Cumberland
- Westmorland
- Yorkshire
Also, Yorkshire north of the Humber only. So no South Yorkshire.
Also, before you go "haha!! William the Conqueror was great! Harrying of the North!" please note that the Harrying of the North was justified and targeted at the Anglo-Norse of "Yorkshire" (actually Deira (or Everwickshire)) and that actually Bernicia, the only remaining English part of Northumbria, was invaded by the "allies" of the same people who caused the Harrying of the North. Unfortunately, today Yorkshire for some reason is proud of being occupied by the Norse and they seem to think they're actually not part of Northumbria. Oh well, we'll just have to persuade them.
As you might have guessed, I support Northumbrian independence. What about you?
