Mainstream music in your country

Postby Sunrisia » Tue Feb 19, 2019 12:56 pm

What type of music or what genres of music are mainstream in your country right now? In Sunrisia it's - rock, trance and synthwave. Grunge has recently made a comeback. Pop and EDM are more underground and the overwhelming majority is foreign-imported, rather than made by local artists.

Currently punk rock and folk punk are overwhelmingly popular with most of the population, more considerably within the youth. The adult population enjoys more of something akin to bluegrass and blues rock.

While it is difficult to tell which genre is the most popular in Zhouran, the top five (in no particular order) would be Zhouranese hip-hop (such as gangster rap, political hip-hop, dirty rap, and comedy rap), Zhouranese pop music (also referred as Z-pop, unique Zhouranese derivative of Mandopop in the dialect of Mandarin Zhouranese), Zhouranese-style electronic music (also known as Z-style electronic or Z-style music), Zhouranese rock music, and Zhouranese metal.

theramin orchestras and home made wooden flutes are both popular.

(for historical reasons, having to do with ancient genocides, stringed instruments are not popular,
and attempts to popularize them often meet with unfortunate endings)

songs that have lyrics tend to be about fantasy characters in fantasy and science fiction stories.
also about trees and trains and rocks and little furry creatures with big sharp teeth,
and generally things strange and requiring a bit of exercize of the imagination.

oddly enough, percussion instruments do not figure prominently in popular compositions.
though people listening to them, often provide their own improvised 'rythmic' accompanyment.
(such as tapping their retractable claws against hard or hollow surfaces, that sort of thing)

wordless throat-singing also has a major following.

"rock" music, tends to be about literal minearls, with gniess songs often take for ganite.

There is no 'mainstream' music in Great Nortend, insofar that there is no single genre that is supreme. Within the upper and middle classes, music in the traditions of the European baroque, classical and romantic are well liked, as well as the national school of Nortan and Hambrian folk, patriotic and traditional music. More recently, there has been a resurgence of baroque and romantic music, as well as some impressionist and neoneoclassicism. Within these styles, operas, oratorios, ballets and anthems are fairly popular, as well as other a variety of other sacred and secular forms. Within the lower or working classes, popular songs for celebrity sopranos, basses and tenors are common, with simple melodies and generally romantic lyrics, as well as other music hall compositions.

Popular music in Romsarend remains rather indistinct from that of many other nations in terms of sound and style. Synthesizers, autotune, rattling hi-hats, deep, fat bass, the four chords, you name it. Take the instrumental of your average pop song, compare it with the instrumental of a Sarendite pop song, and you will find little difference. The main element that distinguishes Sarendite pop music from other nations is lyrical content.

Regardless if it's straight up pop, rock, hip-hop, the dominant genres, the lyrics predominantly revolve around Christian themes, specifically on matters such as God's grace, faith, Jesus, salvation, family, self-sacrifice, prudence, and purity. Part of the difference in lyrical content is simply due to the devoutness of the lot of Sarendites and also because foreign music is very seldom broadcast by radio stations precisely because their employees are mostly of the previously mentioned category in terms of disposition. Profanity is practically nonexistent. Sex and romance, ubiquitous topics in secular pop music, are very sparingly discussed. Don't even get me started on drugs and alcohol.

Sarendite pop music has been evolving in tandem with its foreign counterparts and in the same vein has created a schism between the fans of the hits from yesteryear and hits from today. Members of previous generations, while lauding today's music for at the very least acknowledging Christian doctrine, and much like their secular counterparts in foreign countries, criticize it for being "shallow, artificial, and formulaic." On the other hand, much of Sarendite youth find the music highly intoxicating as it allows them to enjoy the sounds of secular music without "compromising" their faith.
Take care now and be well.

Indie-rock and Electropop are popular, but we're noteable for our virtual bands. While the concept of Virtual Bands started with British group Gorillaz in the early 2000s, the indie rock songs produced by Wyche based virtual band 1! 2! 3! LUNKATO! (well, no shit they're Wychean) and electropop songs released by Lansaddian virtual artist MARC ESTON have put the Union's music, and the idea of a virtual band, on the world stage. This has meant that music performed by fictional characters have become a widely Huterric concept, and our music is very much stereotyped as being performed by those who don't exist as a result

The only genres of music allowed in Oryok is Oryokian patriotic music and Oryokian traditional folk music. Any other forms of music genres are banned and anyone caught listening to foreign music and/or music of other genres are publicly executed on the spot. The most popular music in Andocara is electronic/dance, and house/beatbox music. Those music genres are constantly the cultural genre of Andocara. Though many Andocarians listen to music of all kinds, such as pop, rock, HH, blues (out in rural Andocara), and dancehall.

Pop is popular with all demographics, whilst hip-hop and rap is popular among adolescents and Westport street gangs. Older music (1960s-1990s), including rock and synth, is popular with some adolescents and the older generations.
