UN decolonization council.February 17, 2019.Claim of Argentine sovereignty over the Malvinas Islands
Best regards from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Worship of the Argentine Republic and the presidency of the nation of the Republic of Argentina.
Once again we reiterate our sense of sovereignty over the archipelago of the "Malvinas Islands", which is currently under the control of the United Kingdom after the invasion and non-legitimate administration of the islands on January 3, 1833, under the following reasons: Geographical Continuity, Geological Continuity, Inheritance and Legitimate Administration.
1) Geographical Continuity: The Malvinas Islands are close to the Argentine Republic and are part of the private ocean zone belonging to the Argentine Republic.
2) Geological Continuity: The Malvinas Islands are on the American continental shelf to which the United Kingdom does not belong and of which the Argentine Republic is located.
3) Inheritance: The Malvinas Islands were inherited from the Spanish Crown by the United Provinces of the Rio de la Plata, the current Argentine Republic.
4) Legitimate Administration: In 1766 it was established for the first time in Malvinian soil, England, occupation that lasted eight years, ignoring the Spanish claims and other attempts, for England to leave the islands. In addition, the right of first occupant is held by France. Argentina occupied continuously and permanently the Malvinas Islands, from 1817, until the usurpation (1833). It should be noted that since 1811 ships were sent from Buenos Aires, to take care of the territories, until it was definitively established in 1817.
And one of the first acts of the government of Rivadavia, was to sign the budget destined to the Malvinas. In 1820, public and solemn taking of possession takes place. Period that lasted thirteen years, until the English usurpation. Until 03/01/1833, Argentina enjoyed its rights over its territory, although fishing vessels from the United States and Great Britain, were long ago illegally exploiting national territory. Argentina protested many times before the two states, but had no concrete answers.
Throughout the usurpation of the England, Argentina has made visible its desire for the recovery of sovereignty and has carried out many protests against England in the years 1833, 1834, 1841, 1842, 1849-1884 (35 years in a row), 1888 -1908 (20 years in a row), it is also necessary to remember that all Argentine presidents continue to claim Argentine sovereignty over the Malvinas Islands to this day. England did not discover the islands, but spotted them 170 years after they were discovered. Esteban Gómez (deserter of the crew of Magallanes) tries to cross the Atlantic taking the shortest route, in the direction of the Cape of Good Hope. According to the story of Gomez, located 300 miles from the Strait, they see a group of islands "never seen" baptizing them with the name of San Antón, drawing them on a map that would be collected later by the cartographer Reinell, in 1523. This is how they have been discovered the islands, and with their first name "San Antón", that with the passage of time would be called Islas Malvinas. By the time the British inhabited the islands (1690), the occupiers were the French, but then (1764), they left the archipelago, recognizing Spanish sovereignty. By discovery, the islands are Spanish, until in 1810 they are inherited from Spain and become Argentina. Such is the case that the first act of government of Rivadavia is to sign a payment destined to maintain an establishment in the islands. This happened before declaring national independence in 1816.
It is necessary to clarify that the United Kingdom bases its Imperialist and colonial position on the "Desire of the inhabitants" of the Malvinas Islands, inhabitants that are descendants of English, who do not know the Argentine history or their rights of sovereignty over the Islands. Once again we reiterate our right of sovereignty over the Malvinas Islands for all the points already clarified. We continue waiting for a definitive decision of the decolonization council of the United Nations and we demand that the Malvinas Islands be legitimately returned to the Argentine Republic.
President of Argentina Agustina Neumann.
