We have spun off into the heavens with the nonsensical nature of this hypothetical.

Can you elaborate because my understanding has always been that countries that don't like each other are more likely to go to war.The New California Republic wrote:

Because countries are always completely undamaged after wars, especially wars of national survival.

For the former, I misread it. For the latter, it is nonsense.

I know the latter was sarcasm, but it doesn't inevitably mean that the nation is completely destroyed either, you claimed that it was.

The only way for a nation during wartime to not get razed to the ground is to not be a battlefield at all like the US and Britain. The only country mentioned that might survive is Japan and I'm pretty sure China would invade anyway to make US intervention more difficult, and land invasions mixed with historical animosity don't make for a good combination.

Pretty sure that entire countries don't get destroyed, even when invaded. In fact, I don't think that has ever happened ever.

Exactly. For the "entire country to be destroyed" literally everything would need to be vaporized: land, people, buildings, flora and fauna, vehicles, etc.

I think that's a bit hyperbolic, but it would still be excessive. I'd say "destroying a country" would take, at minimum, leveling every city, town, village, and independent structure.
