A Song of Ice and Fire
Rhaegar's Rebellion

Image

To those it may concern,

In light of recent events, it is the judgement of his Grace, Aerys of House Targaryen, Second of His Name, King of the Andals, Rhoynar and the First Men, Lord of the Seven Kingdom's and Protector of the Realm, and his Small Council, that his son and heir, Rhaegar, Prince of Dragonstone, is hereby charged with high treason, conspiracy, murder, and oath breaking. Similarly charged are, Elia Martell of Dorne, and their issue, Aegon of House Targaryen, and Rhaenys of House Targaryen.

For their conspiracy to overthrow their liege lord, and inflict harm upon, these aforementioned traitors are hereby attainted, stripped of all land, title, privilege, rank, and hereby sentenced to death.

Any and all men so misguided as to offer aid, or shelter to the fugitive Rhaegar Targaryen, you shall be subject to the same judgement that awaits all those that betray their oaths to the Crown.

Signed,
His Grace, Aerys of House Targaryen, Second of His Name, King of the Andals, Rhoynar, and the First Men, Lord of the Seven Kingdoms and Protector of the Realm
.

Introduction

The Realm is in turmoil!
Rhaegar Targaryen, Prince of Dragonstone, and Heir to the Iron Throne, has been stripped of all land and titles, and sentenced to death. His crime? Conspiracy to overthrow the King.

As Madness has gripped Aerys, so too did his paranoia grow. As the realm grew restless under his misguided rule, the King began to see monsters in every shadow, and saw enemies everywhere. His weak rule allowed has left the Kingdom divided, and weak, with vassals fighting vassals, outlaws roaming the land, and corruption seeping into every office of the Realm. As he grew ever more unworthy, so too did Prince Rhaegar show himself more fit to lead. As the Prince surrounded himself with loyal followers and began his own family with Elia of Dorne, the King saw his rising star as a threat. And when threatened, the Mad King lashes out.

When Rhaegar sailed for Dragonstone on a warm summer day in 283 AC, the King struck. The Goldcloak's descended upon the chambers of Elia Martell, and slew her, still clutching her newborn son. Princess Rhaenys and her brother were set alight with Wildfire, and their deaths proclaimed as punishment for the treason of their parents. Aerys himself sent forth all the ravens at his disposal, naming his son a traitor, and placing the inheritance of the Iron Throne in the hands of the young Prince Viserys.

Now, as the Realm reels from the murder of the Princess and her children, all eyes turn to Dragonstone, where Prince Rhaegar prepared to reclaim what is rightfully his and avenge his family....

Welcome!

Hello NS!
With the final season of Game of Thrones nigh upon us, I felt the need to try out a new ASOIAF RP. Now, having seen numerous threads with many great RPers set in the War of the Five Kings, and Roberts Rebellion, I decided to fashion a new setting, an alternate history of sorts, by asking a very simple question.

What if the Mad King had acted on his suspicion that Rhaegar Targaryen was a traitor?

Set at the same time as Roberts Rebellion, we see here instead a rebellion of a different sort. Before eloping with Lyanna Stark, Rhaegar's wife and children were cruelly murdered by the Mad King, inciting the wrath of Dorne, and stirring turmoil in the Realm. With Rhaegar much beloved by the people and lordly class alike, this new conflict will no doubt be as bloody and as brutal as the real Rebellion.

Within this RP you will take charge of a Family in Westeros. Be a Great House like the Starks, Lannisters, or Martells, or a small one such as the Tarths or Darrys, you will have a say in who sits on the Iron Throne. In this newest ASOIAF RP, we forge our own path, and it is up to all of us to find out where it leads!

When creating your applications, remember, there are now two branches of House Targaryen for you to be loyal to, and it is up to you to choose to follow edicts from King's Landing, Dragonstone, or even try to win your independence.

As we adventure, there are some basic rules:

Rules

1. The OP is Lord and Master, the Co-Ops are their hands. We have the final say, our word is law.
2. No Godmodding, Metagaming etc.
3. Be realistic. Westeros is famed for its realism and gritty stories. Stay within the realm of reason when fighting, traveling and conversing.
4. Time is going to be freeflowing, and will vary. If there is every a need for a major time skip players WILL be notified beforehand by at least a day in order to wrap up their dealings.
5.This will be an RP based on character development and progression, do not expect storylines to develop for you, make your own and involve other players. If you are stuck with nothing to do, OP/CO-OP will give your a task or an idea.
6. Keep the Lore restricted to A Song of Ice and Fire material only
6a. Remember, people die in Westeros. If you are in a bind, and death is the only option, deal with it.
7. Have FUN!

Character Creation and Application

Westeros and Essos offer a wide array of different characters, from the chivalrous Knights of the Reach, to the tough and hardy Free Folk beyond the Wall. It is recommended that you play as an extant House or character as they are easier to play, however, if you prefer a custom made House, you will be allowed to make one. However, these will be reviewed stringently.
Your application will not be accepted until it is fully filled out.

CHARACTER APPLICATION
Name: Rhaegar Targaryen
House: House Targaryen of Dragonstone
Age: 24
Gender: Male
Titles: Prince of Dragonstone, Rightful Heir to the Iron Throne.
House Seat: Dragonstone.
Allegiance paid to: House Targaryen of Dragonstone.
Appearance:
Image

Personality: Rhaegar is a valiant and noble man, with a kind nature, and a dutiful, determined, and diligent disposition. He had a strong sense of right and wrong, along with his deep convictions surrounding his destiny, and the destiny of his children. He was known to be compassionate and loving, while being a lover of books, knowledge and art. He had a certain air of melancholy around him at times, which many attribute to the circumstances of his birth.
Skills: Rhaegar is noted as a lethally skilled warrior, with both the sword and the lance. It can also be surmised to be a gifted battlefield strategist, and a learned and well read commander. He has proven himself in many tourneys, and while he prides himself on his talent for combat, he was not a lover of war. He truly preferred songs, especially on his harp, and many said his musical skill was nigh enchanting.
Weaponry: Black Targaryen plate armour, matching shield, and sword.
Biography: Born to Aerys Targaryen and his wife Rhaella in 259 AC, Rhaegar Targaryen was a bookish, timid boy, and many were concerned he may be Baelor the Blessed reincarnated. He was born at Summerhall, the Royal Palace of the Targaryen's in the Stormlands, upon the same day as the Tragedy of Summerhall, where a large portion of the Royal Family was killed when the Palace was consumed by fire. Ever after his birth, Rhaegar would be touched by this tragedy, and he was often found at the ruins of Summerhall, writing poetry or singing sadly among the remaining stonework.

As he aged, Rhaegar began to grow more martial, as he realized what becoming a King truly would mean. He swiftly became a talented swordsman, and was knighted at 17. Despite this obvious skill, he preferred the company of his harp to that of his sword, and would often move people to tears with his voice. As a highly eligible bachelor, Rhaegar was courted by many families, such as the Lannisters. However, in 279 he was formally betrothed to Elia of Dorne, and they were married the following year.

Elia and Rhaegar, while maybe not in love, were fond of each other, and she bore him two children. However, as his father descended into further madness, it became clear to many that the Prince would be a strong ally in the politics of the capital. Many lords out of favour with Aerys flocked to his son, and the King soon grew suspicious of his heir, a suspicion that soon turned to violent anger and paranoia. Rhaegar realized his father was not well, and their relationship become more and more estranged.

In the midst of this tension, Rhaegar sailed to Dragonstone, in an effort to distance himself from court, though the King refused to allow his wife or children to leave. It was while the Prince traveled to the Targaryen's ancestral seat that his father murdered his family, and declared him a traitor.

Now, ensconced on Dragonstone, Rhaegar plots to regain his inheritance, avenge his family, and unite the realm.
RP Example: N/A
Notes: The denizens of Dragonstone.

EXISTING HOUSE APPLICATION
House Name: House Targaryen of Dragonstone.
House Sigil:
Image

House Words: Fire and Blood.
Allegiance Paid to: N/A
Approx Number of military at command: Around 4000 men sworn to Dragonstone, a handful of ships.
History of the House: House Targaryen is a noble family of Valyrian descent. The only family of dragonlords who survived the Doom of Valyria, the Targaryens left the Valyrian Freehold twelve years before the Doom. They resided for more than a century at Dragonstone on the island of the same name, until Aegon the Conqueror and his sister-wives, Visenya and Rhaenys, began the first of the Wars of Conquest in -2 AC.

Following the conclusion of Aegon's Conquest in 1 AC, they built the Aegonfort in the new capital city of King's Landing. The Aegonfort was later torn down and replaced by the Red Keep, which remained their main seat for the duration of their dynasty, and which housed the Iron Throne. Their original castle was almost always given to the heir to the throne, the Prince of Dragonstone. The Targaryens eventually built the summer residence Summerhall, which has been given to several younger sons of the family over time.

House Targaryen ruled as the Kings of the Andals, the Rhoynar, and the First Men, the Lords of the Seven Kingdoms, and the Great House of the crownlands for nearly three hundred years. Seventeen male Targaryens ruled from the Iron Throne. While their dragons died out in the reign of Aegon III, the Targaryens were able to withstand numerous civil wars, and rebellions over their almost three centuries of rule. The family was crippled by the Tragedy at Summerhall in 259 AC, where a large portion of it was consumed by fire. While King Jaehaerys II ruled well, his son and heir, Aerys II has proven to be a weak, insane King, letting the realm fall into chaos. Now, House Targaryen is split, as it was during the Dance of Dragons, between those who support the King, and those that support the Prince of Dragonstone.

Is it possible to play as a Blackfyre (descended through the son of Aerion Brightflame and possibly a brother of Daemon III Blackfyre, albeit secretly) or even as a descendant of Aemond Targaryen and his Alys Rivers?

CHARACTER APPLICATION
Name: Lord Rickard Stark
House: Stark
Age: 44
Gender: Male
Titles: Lord of Winterfell, Warden of the North
House Seat: Winterfell
Allegiance paid to: Targaryen
Appearance:
Image

Personality:
As a stark and a northmen, Rickard Values his honor as upmost importance. A loving but stern father. He is slow to anger and hard to please. He does not take to rump kissers kindly and sees them as a waste of space.

Skills: Skilled Fighter, Skilled Strategist, Skilled Rider, Skilled Negotiator
Weaponry : Valyrian Steel Great-sword ICE
Biography:
The son of Edwyle Stark and Marna Locke, Rickard married his cousin once removed, Lyarra Stark, and had four children: Brandon, Eddard, Lyanna, and Benjen. Lord Rickard visited King's Landing in 264 AC, leading King Aerys II Targaryen to consider building another Wall and claiming more land in the far north.

While the Starks have traditionally kept to themselves and have stayed to the north, Rickard has instead begun looking south. His heir, Brandon has been bethrothed to Hoster Tully’s eldest daughter, Catelyn, and his only daughter Lyanna has been bethrothed to the heir of Stormsend, Robert Baratheon.

Though Lord Rickard has not made it public who he shall support in the coming conflict, most assume he will honor his oath to Aerys Targaryen, his liege Lord. Though some also say that he may put the needs of the Kingdom above his own personal honor, and side with Rheagar.

Notes: Brandon, Eddard, Lyanna, Benjen

EXISTING HOUSE APPLICATION
House Name: Stark of Winterfell
House Sigil:
Image

House Words: Winter is Coming
Allegiance Paid to: Westeros
Approx Number of military at command: 45,000 if given appropriate time to muster
History of the House:
House Stark has ruled in the north for centuries uncounted. Wrestling control from the other northern lords, and imposing themselves as rulers over them.

They ruled as Kings in the North for hundreds of years, before finally bowing to aegon and his dragons.

House Stark is known for there somewhat cold nature. They have historically confined themselves to the north, rarely concerning themselves with Southron conflicts unless they were most dire.

This has recently changed with the betrothal of Lord Rickard Starks heir, Brandon Stark, to a daughter of the Tully’s. He also had betrothed his only daughter Lyanna to the heir of Storms end , Robert Baratheon.

Looks good so far, would you just mind expanding the biography/House History a bit? An extra paragraph or two would be great.

Well unfortunately House Blackfyre was extinct by this time, I would prefer that we play as existing Houses and characters, or wholly original ones.

If you would like to play based in Essos, as the Blackfyres would be, there are plenty of mercenary companies out there.

I would probably say the Lannisters would be more important in terms of getting the RP moving and influencing the events of the coming war.

Name: Roose Bolton
House: Bolton
Age: 20
Gender: Male
Titles: Lord of the Dreadfort
House Seat: The Dreadfort
Allegiance paid to: Bolton to Starks
Appearance:

Personality: As ruthlessly pragmatic as he is intelligent and cautious and capable of unspeakable cruelty. Never expressing outbursts of emotion, Roose is calm and calculating as he always puts the well being of the North and House Stark above all else. Even if it means he has to get his hands dirty and soiling his honor.
Skills: A skilled commander, an experienced swordsman, and an excellent torturer such as flaying
Weaponry: A longsword and a knife
Biography: Roose Bolton is the dead of the Bolton family, a vassal house under the Starks. As the lord of the Dreadfort, he takes great pride in the sigil: the flayed man. Even though flaying is outlawed in the North, Roose Bolton still practices it as a means of torture and execution. To him, striking fear into the hearts of the North's enemies is just as deadly as any other weapon. In this upcoming conflict, he hopes that his house and the North itself will be elevated in this conflict.

House Words: Our Blades are Sharp
Allegiance Paid to: House Stark
Approx Number of military at command: 3,000 infantry, 1,000 cavalry
History of the House: The origins of House Bolton date back to at least the Age of Heroes, a savage age in which the houses of First Men waged war one upon the other. For centuries, House Bolton resisted the efforts of the Starks to unify the North under their rule, killing several Starks in the process, and, according to rumors, keeping their skins as trophies and even wearing them as cloaks. During these centuries when the North was divided into a dozen or so smaller petty kingdoms, the Boltons and Starks were chief rivals for domination over all the others. The leaders of House Bolton during this time were known as the Red Kings, and their kingdom covered a large portion of the lands east of Winterfell, centered around the Dreadfort itself.

Eventually, the Boltons were defeated and bent the knee to House Stark, giving up their practice of flaying their prisoners as sign of their submission. Nevertheless, they remained the second most powerful house of the North. House Bolton commanded a formidable military of 4,000 men and although not as large or rich as other armies in Westeros, the Bolton army is very well trained and equipped.

Looks good so far, my only concern is the number of troops, its a little high.

I would say House Bolton could field 3,000 infantry and maybe 750-1000 horsemen.

Accepted.

I believe you may have been looking at the Wiki for the show and not the books.

Name: Roose Bolton
House: Bolton
Age: 34

EXISTING HOUSE APPLICATION
House Name: Bolton
House Sigil

House Bolton commanded a formidable military of 5,000 men and although not as large or rich as other armies in Westeros, the Bolton army is very well trained and equipped.

I'd like to play based in Essos; are the Free Cities open?

I might also want Dorne.

I would prefer to have more Westerosi characters but if the App is good enough I will accept a Free City or two.
