WLC 30
CASSADAIGUA TRAVEL GUIDE

Are you coming to Cassadaigua to enjoy the World Lacrosse Championships? Great! Here’s what you will need to know.

1) Where is Cassadaigua? How do I get there?

Cassadaigua is located in the region of Rushmore, and more specifically south-central Rushmore.

The best recommendation to get here is to fly in, although if you are nearby, you may just want to drive or take a train. All Cassadagan cities have a major airport, and the nation has an advanced rail system as well. If you insisted on traveling by sea, there are some easily attainable port cities to make it very convenient, but we suggest flying in.

2) Will I be safe? What is crime like?

Cassadaigua is no more or no less safe then any other nation. Some consider our crime rates to be a little high, but law enforcement and a general security presence will be very apparent and will protect you. Things still get seedy in the Grande Mountain area from time to time, but our security will try their best to keep the men's rights protests to a minimum. Lately, since the Queen has been more pro-active in regards to Men’s rights, such protests have not been occurring.

3) Tell me more about your female-dominated society. Are male tourists safe?

Cassadaigua’s society is different then what is seen throughout most of the world. In our nation, the female is the dominant gender and is superior to the male. This should not be surprising if you have followed our own national sport teams in even the slightest of ways. There are some groups who feel that men are greatly oppressed in our nation, but that is not really the case. If you are a man, and you are visiting Cassadaigua, as long as you are aware of our somewhat different culture, you should not have a tough time fitting in. After all, Cassadagan men that play by the rules here and respect their role can be very successful themselves. As long as you respect our culture, you should be fine while you are here. If you act disrespectful, then don’t be surprised if you are soon put in your place. You are expected to follow all Cassadagan laws, even if it is not a law in your own country,

4) I’ve been to nations that have talking ponies, or banned cars, or taxes on every little thing. Should I expect anything like this?

Cassadagans love horses, but there are no talking ponies here. At least not that we know of. If we have any sentient immigrants from nations like Equestrian States, they keep a very low profile. Cars are very much a way of life, and our taxes aren’t anything out of the ordinary, and if anything are a little lower then average. Cassadaigua is modern, economic powerhouse. There are no unusual factors associated with the country, other then the gender differences.

Socially, Cassadaigua is open to members of all faiths, and we respect your right to worship your respective deity in the way you see fit; or to not worship one at all. Homosexuality is accepted in the country, though we can’t promise that some random drunk in the stands or on the streets won’t make offensive comments.

As far as drinking is concerned, the legal age is 18, though many get away with underage drinking as it is not as aggressively policed as it may be in other lands. However, do not drink and drive. If you are caught, you will have a greater jail sentence then you might be expecting, and if you kill anyone by drunk driving, you will receive the death penalty.

Smoking anywhere in public is banned, but legal in your own home. This applies to both cigarettes and marijuana. All other recreational drugs are banned.

5) Where will the games be? Tell me about the cities, please.

Concord Heights- This is the nation capital, and the city has hosted many international championships before. You’ll find the city in northeast Cassadaigua, and there are plenty of things to do while here. We won’t get into all of them, because if its on your mind, simply put, its in Concord Heights. Within the city, you will find the most traditional Cassadagan citizens; the ones least likely to be listening to MEN (Male Equality Now) or any other of men’s rights messages. The University of Concord Heights is the nation’s most accredited higher learning institution, but if you want to leave Cassadaigua looking better to impress people at home, check out Concord Heights Beauty School for all kind of tips on looking your best, and museums dedicated specifically to the ultimate in vanity.

The Concord Heights Stadium soccer field has been seen a lot of great events take place on it through the years, and many tributes to our glory days, including a monument area for our retired kit numbers, are seen at the stadium. It has a capacity of 83,000.

Brattleboro- The most rapidly growing city in Cassadaigua recently topped Grande Mountain in terms of population. Brattleboro sits immediately alongside the border between us and Sicoutimont. The technological age is what has caused the rise of this city, thanks in large part to the prestigious Brattleboro Technical Institute. Graduates remained committed to the area, and are since having families of their own. Overall, there is a younger demographic here, age wise, and that coupled with the name of the city has led to others to call its residents “Brats”.

Brattleboro Stadium is the most modern of any of the stadiums that will be hosting the tournament. (Concord Heights Stadium is fine, though just a bit more traditional). It is impeccably maintained, and has a capacity of 79,000. There are plenty of interactive things for fans to do before and after the game.

Grande Mountain- Another large city, there has been some controversy in Grande Mountain lately. Most of that pertains to the local university, and you should be safe as long as you mind your own business. Those with a long term memory about Grande Mountain, and recent protest that have taken place here can take solace in knowing that has not been an issue in the last couple years. That’s good, as locals are glad they can get back to leading normal lives. Grande Mountain, as a city, sits a high elevation, which is where it gets its name.

The stadium is a traditional 68,000-seat facility. It will offer the basics, and do a very good job with it. This is also very much a college town, so expect more then the normal number of intoxicated Cassadagan fans afterwards. Your fans are welcome to join in.

Rutland- A port city in southeastern Cassadaigua, Rutland sometimes gets lost in the shuffle with the other cities in tournaments like this. It could use a bit of a makeover, but local officials have concentrated efforts on the port itself, and as such the rest of the city could appear ignored. It is true that many are migrating out of Rutland because of this, and it’s possible that it might not appear as a host city much longer.

The stadium has the smallest capacity of any in the tournament, with that being 58,000, and those seats will sell out quickly. For those who just want to focus on soccer, and not have other distractions, this is the place you’ll hope to be. Even though the city is a bit bland, there is plenty of energy in the stands.

Winchester- The anti-Brattleboro in that while Brattleboro is a younger city, demographically, Winchester is a place that a lot of retired people have migrated too, to get away from big city life. In the process, they created a big city themselves, but you’ll notice that this city doesn’t have same kind of pizzazz as others. You’ll find more bingo halls then bars in the city, and residents only agree to allow the city to be used for international events because of the money you’ll bring in to the city. So that they can gamble it away playing bingo.

In contrast to the older demographic that lives here, the stadium is actually quite modern. There will be some interactive activities for fans, but you’ll also see a lot of the older people try to sell old memorabilia around the stadium. Take a look, maybe you will find something interesting!

New Lakeland- If you want to enjoy Cassadaigua and go to a city with the most gender equality, then New Lakeland is the spot for you. The reason is, that this used to be a city in Secristan before Cassadaigua took it over, therefore its origins aren’t the same. As time has gone by, Cassadagan lifestyle has begun to take it over, but there many relics of its history still prevalent on the streets. It’s the most capitalist city in the country, but given that origin, that shouldn’t be a surprise. City has seen a lot of recent sporting success with New Lakeland University winning the NSCAA 9 title, and the New Lakeland Tycoons winning the Club Baseball Classic.

The stadium is state-of-the-art, and at 91,000, it has the largest capacity out of all of the stadiums being used. It will also have the highest ticket prices. You’ll get good value out of it though, as once inside, there is plenty to do, and the most varied assortment of concession areas in the country.

Starksville- A growing city close to Rutland, and has been the place that a lot of migrants from Rutland have ended up going to. It is a port city, as well. Since it is a growing city, it does not have a ton of sporting history associated with it.

The stadium is a basic, no-frills, 65,000 seat stadium. It’s fine and more then adequate, but won’t make a forever lasting impression.

Victoriavile- As the most populous city in Southwestern Cassadaigua, Victoriaville again returns as a host city to give Dagans living in this area some close games to travel too. There’s nothing really wrong with the city, it’s just not as big as the others.

The stadium is very similar to Starksville, and is a basic 61,000-seat stadium. It does have a rather high amount of luxury boxes present.

After the failures of the 28th and 29th World Lacrosse Championships, and especially the 29th edition where Banija got eliminated in the group stages of the WLCs for the first time ever, everything was torn down. The Olympic Committee of Banija seized control, and a reforms were introduced. Chief among them- rid themselves of those who failed. The entire coaching staff was purged, and with it, not a single player who was on the WLC 28 or 29 roster was invited back to form the WLC 30 roster. Those high up in Banija called the WLC 29 group stage elimination, on home soil, of a nation that considered themselves an international lacrosse powerhouse an 'absolute embarassment to the country' and vowed for deep reforms to ensure that this did not ever happen again.

Group Stage Schedule
(TBA)

Home Stadia
Kizza I Field
Image
Capacity of 33,000. Located in Herzegovina City, Moravica
A specialty lacrosse stadium, it was built at the cost of $115 million NSDs, and funded by the local government. The Herzegovina City Kings, Banija's most popular lacrosse team, play their home games at this stadium. It is Banija's largest lacrosse-specific stadium. It is named after Kizza I, the first chief of the Kisanke, and who's direct descendants would eventually become the Kings of Banija. Hosted the 28th WLC Final. This will host all of Banija's home matches except for the home opener.

Northern Moravica Lacrosse Arena
Image
Capacity of 4,500. Located on the Northern Moravica University campus in Herzegovina City, Moravica, Banija
Banija's first lacrosse stadium was built on the campus of Northern Moravica University. It is hosting games not because of it's size, as it is easily the smallest stadium on this list, but it's role in the history of Banijan lacrosse. This is the facility the national team uses to make camp before major tournaments, and where college lacrosse used to have their annual championship game. It is called the "spiritual home" of Banijan lacrosse. Like WLC 28 and WLC 29, the Banijan national team will play one game here- their home opener.

Cosumar National Lacrosse Team - WLC XXX
Roster and Information
Image

Team Information

Nation - The Fiefdom of Cosumar

Team Name - Azure Dragons

Demonym - Cosumarite

Team Colors - Navy, Silver, Royal Blue, White

Headquarters - Centus, Gellano Fief, Cosumar

Home Stadium - CosumaQuest Stadium (68,000)

Team Style - Highly Offensive (for IC purposes)

Experience - Cosumar debuted in WLC 8 and over twenty editions later, we have built a reputation as one of the premier lacrosse nations in multiverse: with a strong domestic league (the CLL) and a record nine WLC medals. Cosumar won back-to-back WLC titles in the 20th and 21st editions but crashed out early in WLC 22. They bounced back to claim a silver medal in WLC 23, a bronze in WLC 24 and finally another gold in WLC 26. Last time around, we made it to our second consecutive Third Place Game, winning a bronze medal to avenge our loss to St Saratoga at the same stage in WLC 28. This time, Cosumar will be looking to hold off Sarzonia (8) and maintain sole possession of the total medals record (9).

Domestic Lacrosse - Lacrosse was an obscure sport in Cosumar 30+ years ago, but has since risen rapidly to become the fourth spectator sport here behind only association/gridiron football and basketball. International success got people invested in the sport and its players, and then the CLL (Cosumarite Lacrosse League) arrived on the scene to profit from the burgeoning interest. The fledgling league has since exploded to 28 teams and become a destination for top players around the lacrosse world. The latest season just wrapped up, crowning the Mallox Mayhem as champions for the first time. Cosumar has also hosted the WLC in the past.

Sheppard was the greatest Cosumarite lacrosse player of all time. He helped popularize the sport across the Fiefdom with his marketable boyish good looks and incredible skill with the stick. Sheppard's records for appearances, goals and assists for Cosumar in the WLC will likely never be broken, as he captained the team for over fifteen years. He has since transitioned seamlessly into a coaching role and is a no-brainer to lead the program in the future with longtime coach Duke McDougle approaching 72 years old.

Cosumar's uniform feautres an aesthetic design provided by Barrengaka Kits of Astograth and makes heavy use of the national colors of Blue and Silver. The goalie's kit feautres the colors of the Royal Family of Cosumar - Green and Gold. A silhouette of the iconic Cosumarite Azure Dragon takes the center of the uniform, reminding spectators of the natural beauty and magnificence of Cosumar while also striking fear into the hearts of the opposing team.

Welcome, welcome folks back to yet another nightly edition of the Ed Talk Radio Show, with you host Edward Sullivan. Tonight show Ed talks with Bashir Al-Vish who is manager of the West Guiana lacrosse national team who is getting ready for the thirtieth edition of the World Lacrosse Championships. Before we begin I have to thank our sponsors for tonight's show:

Bill's Under a Dollar, where you can find the cheapest party supplies in all of the Gembrook metro. Ace Pharmacy, you're hometown pharmacy, with twenty locations in the greater Gembrook area. Omni Tech, Our value is your trust. And, Bluebird Financial, Trust the Bluebird.

As mentioned in the intro, our guest tonight is Bashir Al-Vish, the Manager of the national lacrosse team who is getting ready for the upcoming edition of the world lacrosse championships. Bashir is on the phone at his home in Waverly, Alluresia, Hello Bashir how are you?

Bashir: I'm do great Ed, thanks for having me on.

Ed: No, no the pleasure is all mine thanks for letting us interrupt your perorations.

Bashir: *chuckles* I can't say you interrupted me much at all.

Ed: So Bashir how you are getting the team ready for whats next?

Bashir: Well, we know who is going to be playing in this edition, but we have to wait for the group draw to see whom we will be playing against. I can say that with there being only four groups the likelihood of us having to play against some of the other top ranked teams is going to be a very real possibility. There will be four groups of seven team each and having to play each other twice. This edition my first real chance at coaching will be a challenge but I hope i'll be ready.

Ed: So the team will be playing twelve games each, who are you hoping to be drawn with?

Bashir: That is a good question and one i've thought about in the past few days myself, I guess I would say any of the four, Cosumar, Banija, Sarzonia, and Abanhfleft. It would make our group the ultimate group of death and group of champions, with four of the five having won the World championships, but that is a pipe dream since we'd be talking about four of seven being in the top ten.

Ed: Now before we go further, you said this will be your first chance at coaching at the professional level, how did you skip from being of the best lacrosse players in West Guiana history to head coach?

Bashir: Now as your fan may know, I played for the Waverly Falcons for six seasons and played on the national team from editions twenty-two thru twenty-eight. Our team did not play in the twenty-seventh edition though. Now as to the coaching gig, I was supposed to be the next head coach of the Falcons, but then as we all painfully know the recession hit and so went up in smoke the Waverly Falcons after the owner decided to dump the team and run, he sold off everything that belonged to the team and left town. It still hurts everyone that something that we loved so much was destroyed so quickly and there was nothing we could do about it. The last we heard he left the country, like so many did and now lives in Starblaydia.

Ed: His name was Thomas Jones right? I read a article that he bought a minority stake in a low level soccer club in Starblaydia and apparently lives quite well in Jhanna.

Bashir: Shameful, simply shameful. However nothing can be done to do about it.

Ed: Hey folks we'll be right back after a word from our sponsors.

Really? Ten dollars for a dozen candles and what how much for one balloon, what a rip off, that is the last time i'm shopping here. I'm going to shop at Bill's Under a Dollar where I can find any party supply item that I need for under a dollar!

Hey Susan what's wrong? Oh hey Julie, oh my medicine unbelievable what they charge for some back pain pills. Hmm, you know Susan, I started going to Ace Pharmacy for my medicines. Really? Yes, I save so much compared to other places even the government owned stores. Wow, I guess I might start going to where..again? Ace Pharmacy. You know Susan, I think you need to memory test soon, and they can help with that too."

Ever since the economic downturn, we at Bluebird Financial are committed to transparency and making sure that our customers come before stock holders.

Omni Tech, our value is your trust

Ed: We're back and with us is Bashir Al-Vish Manager of the national lacrosse team. Bashir, seeing how far tha National Lacrosse Leaguse has diminished over the past three years what is your take on how William Winer should take care of it?

Bashir: Well lets first of give credit to Mr. Winer, when he took over the NLL nine years ago the leaguse only had about sixteen teams or so, and he quickly drew up a road map that would expand the league in viable markets and avoid markets where the sport wasn't popular. When the league went dark it had thirty-four teams and was ready to make a push for forty. However seeing how quickly the league fell apart after even one season with out play it make me wonder how they should do things different. I'm no financial expert but I believe the NLL should adopt what worked well with the NPSL, promotion and regulation.

Ed: I would like to point out the NPSL also lost over half of its clubs too.

Bashir: Yes, however the NPSL unlike the NLL was heavily dependent on government subsidies to run, I believe each year they received around twenty-two million dollars, that alone was nearly seventy percent of its budget and revenue. The NLL however received less than two million a year and that ran at only ten percent of the leagues revenue. It was well known by so many that of the sixty-eight clubs of the NPSL only nine made any profits, and with the profit sharing agreement those nine along with the government helped keep the league alfoat. In the midst of the downturn the government slashed funding to sports leagues by one hundred million, with the NPSL being the most affected with its subsidies being cut down to a mere six million.

Ed: Do you think the NPSL will recover at all? How about the NLL?

Bashir: The NLL will recover because the system that was put in place by Mr. Winer set the league up to rely heavily on sponsorship's and ticket sales, so that mean any teams will have to have a fan base that is ready to support their team, no matter the outcome. The NPSL however may not, they expanded into markets that really don't care for soccer, look Ed as so many know, we're not like the rest of Atlantian Oceania, we don't care much for soccer, we're in the minority in the region. The NPSL did well when it was the National Soccer Association, because it had teams..eh clubs, based in the North and south eastern regions of the country where the sport is more popular and along the Lake Bekk area. Each region of the country favors one sport over another. In the middle its lacrosse, Lake Bekk soccer but football too, Calia Alps you have their Calian Football, Jasper City is all about rugby.

Ed: Well you summed up the country's sport habits quite well, and I wish you and the national team all the best.

Bashir: Thank you and Go West Guiana!

Union of Socialist Alpine Republics National Box Lacrosse Team
Reprezentacja Alpejski w Rodzaj gry w hokeya
Équipe d'Union des Républiques Socialistes Alpines de Crosse en enclos

The Alpine Lacrosse Federation (ALF) understands that this is a field lacrosse competition but we only practice box lacrosse in our nation, so we will send a team of box lacrosse players who will try to adapt to field lacrosse. The Alpine Union team is used with a 30 sec. shot clock kinda like basketball, so we usually won't keep the ball for more than 30 seconds before shooting it. Our players won't cover as many field as other field lacrosse teams. Our dmen always stays in the defensive zone and our attackers stays in the attacking zone (or stays just outside to not create an offside if offsides exists). Our midfielders usually stay in the midfield area and rarely go in the attacking or defensive zone. Our strategy isn't well adapted for field lacrosse.
Another difference between domestic Alpine box lacrosse and field lacrosse is that fights are allowed in our domestic league and some players on our roster are good fighters!

Nation Name: Union of Socialist Alpine Republics
Short Nation name: Alpine Union, U.S.A.R.
Trigramme: UAR
Demonym: Alpine
Nicknames: Bisons, Reprezentacja Alpejski, Green & white
Style Mod: +2

Home Stadium: Because in the U.S.A.R. we only play box lacrosse in hockey arenas, the ALF had to ask professional football and soccer teams or college teams if they agree to loan their stadium to the fedetation. The first team to agree was the University of Central Saguenay who has in a 10 000 places football stadium, which isn't a lot. Luckily the University of West Wabash, with a 67 000 seat stadium, also agreed to loan us their stadium. The Alpine Lacrosse Federation (ALF) would like to thank them!

Camp Roberts Stadium
Capacity: 67 606
Location: Buttzville, Republic of Wabash

Camp Roberts stadium is located on the south west shore midway between Waddington and Braddock. Waddington is the 2nd largest city and 3rd largest metropolitan area in the Alpine Union

DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC OF ABANHFLEFT
NATIONAL LACROSSE TEAM

This will be Abanhfleft's ninth time participating in the World Lacrosse Championship. For reasons that can be simply summed up as "it's the best thing we've done in a while," the Democratic Republic sent forth their women's national lacrosse team for their first seven appearances in the competition. The women's team, led by the "Fearsome Threesome" of Menan Alrisheb, Fatima Alsambis, and Cecilia Cuvimi, managed to win third place in their first ever tournament WLC XIX, beating the Serbian Empire to nab the bronze from under the veteran nation's noses. They went on to win back-to-back titles in WLC 22 and WLC 23 before a miserable performance in WLC 24 saw them eliminated in the group stage, but they have come back to win it all once again in WLC 25 to set history as the first nation to win three titles in four attempts. But now, it has been decided that it was time to switch it up, and so for the first time in WLC history, Abanhfleft will send forth a mixed team of men and women to play international lacrosse and hopefully regain some of that lost glory for the Democratic Republic.

The history of lacrosse in Abanhfleft is both long and short, in that it has been in the country for a long time, but a concise summary of said history can be written down in just ten to fifteen sentences or maybe more. Lacross was introduced in Abanhfleft by vacationing Canadian college students and expatriates who missed playing the game. The first truly Fleftic lacrosse players came from association football and field hockey backgrounds, and these players played in seasonal lacrosse clubs to augment their salaries during their respective sports' offseasons. The first national lacrosse league in Abanhfleft was established in 1929, and was composed of 7 teams coming from the Capital Islands. The Fleftic national lacrosse league system adopted its current promotion-and-relegation format in 1951, with the National League (now called the Lacrosse Premier League) at the top of the pyramid. The Fleftic Lacrosse Federation (Flefteikor' Fidourhat'she ob Lakros or FFoL) was established in 1930 to manage the leagues, and to see to the creation of a national team. The Abanhfleft men's national lacrosse team played its first game in 1931, where they lost 1-0 to a team of Montreal college players.

1963 saw the first attempts to introduce women's lacrosse into Abanhfleft. Women's lacrosse had vastly different rules from men's lacrosse, and while these programs saw some success in the mid-sixties, Fleftic women decided that the rules of women's lacrosse were "too soft," and simply adopted the rules of men's lacrosse. When the women's national lacrosse team played its first games in 1969, they surprised many other teams with their extremely aggressive style of play, the likes of which were more usually seen in men's lacrosse games. This led to many incidents of broken legs, broken arms, broken ribs, broken jaws, and so on and so forth. Eventually, the FFoL established another women's team, this one focusing on women's lacrosse rules. Teams playing Abanhfleft are well-advised to treat the women like men because the girls will certainly treat their opponents like Fleftic men.

They also won the last two World Lacrosse Championships, and they tried going for a third straight title, but a limp performance in the group stage of WLC 24 resulted in them going out on said stage. Now they're back for the silver edition of the World Lacrosse Championships hoping to come back stronger than ever. Can they do it, now that the Fearsome Threesome have all decided to retire from international lacrosse at the same time, or can they only somehow sink even deeper?

Head Coach: Watch this space

Assistant Coach - Tactics: Tim Blyther (51, male)
Blyther is an Australian who played lacrosse in Abanhfleft's Lacrosse Premier League for almost fifteen years, eventually retiring in 2009 with five championships under his belt. Blyther is also a fan of association football, and was the mastermind of adapting some of that's sports tactics into lacrosse, and this combination of lacrosse and football helped lead the Releinthi Fighting Sticks to three consecutive championships in the Lacrosse Premier League. Being the inventor and innovator of FootCrosse (the combination of football and lacrosse tactics), Blyther was invited by the FFoL to be both national teams' tactics coach, but this will be the first time that FootCrosse will be seen on the world stage, and how Abanhfleft will perform in this tournament will determine the viability of FootCrosse on the international lacrosse scene.

Assistant Coach - Training: Chan Lua (65, male)
A popular aerobics instructor back in the 1980s, Chan Lua was hired by the FFoL in 2012 for a yearly salary of 2 million new penenks, one of the largest yearly salaries ever in the federation. Lua's job will be to increase and enhance the players' fitness levels. Lua's hiring, which had been a controversial decision at the time, eventually paid off when both national teams' starting lineups lasted much longer on the field than their opponents. Observers keen to gauge this side will look to Lua's contributions to the effectiveness of the national side. In his spare time, when he is not the fitness coach of the Fleftic women's national lacrosse team, he is the fitness coach of the Fhulghamous Peninsula national football team.

Nickname: The Amazons
Colors: All white with blue, orange, and green stripes on the waistline and yellow numbers in a red circle (home kit); all red with yellow letters and numbers (away kit)
Style: Abanhfleft is an attacking team. The legacy of football and hockey players dabbling in lacrosse in its early days in Abanhfleft has resulted in a playing style that emphasizes getting the ball up front for chances to score. This, however, leaves the defense a bit thin, as at least two midfielders join the attackers in forays up to the goal, leaving behind only the defenders and the keeper. The midfield makes up for this by rushing back to their positions as soon as the opponents have acquired the ball.

HOME STADIUM
Image
The Imponte Garden in Kammala, Garufaloe Province, home of the Garufaloe Cobras of the FNLAF, will be playing host to the Fleftic national lacrosse team's home matches. It has an official capacity of 51,000 people, and while attendance regularly exceeds that figure thanks to a rabid fanbase for American football, and people prefer to stand up or sit on the stairs whenever capacity is filled, the organizers are not sure if this capacity will be filled for lacrosse matches, as it simply does not have the same pull as American football, association football, or even rugby union.

There have been major changes for WLC 30. Both Tony Tute and Jake Carrs have retired from international lacrosse. Several players have moved from the reserves onto the starting lineup. One notable example would be the speedy Taye James. Several rookies hope to make their mark on the second ranked team in the multiverse. The Royals hope to earn another title to add to their WLC 28 Championship.

Vangaziland will start two rookies at attack in Scott McLaughlin and Lizzie Borhanson. Scott is the offspring of Celtic migrants who came to Vangaziland for a new start. He is a stocky player with a tricky shot. Lizzie Borhanson has been called 'The Rocket' for her shot velocity.

Stella Dahl and Wilhelmina Stenbeck join Lizzie as new female rookie. Stenbeck has been called 'Lar's Swenson's little sister. They both carry an aggressively physical style of play. She still has room to improve in passing and catching. She is quick to accrue penalties.

McLaughlin draws comparison to the retired Tute. He is a stocky player who likes to run behind the net. His drawback is his short reach which sees many passes sail over his head.

The starting defense is an experienced unit with Swythe and Swenson bringing Championship experience. Theo Scandrix is the main veteran on offense, leading from the midfield. He finds himself as captain of the national team. It is seen as a large responsibility for a player who was considered a greenhorn not long ago.

The team is under great pressure to perform. They remain second to the squad from Cosumar. A team from across the Imperial Channel in Wrexwic took the Championship in WLC 29, ending chances for a Vannish back-to-back. A hungry developing team looks to show their mettle in a more competitive environment.

Emmerson Field
Capacity: 35,000
Location: Emeros, Vangaziland

Emmerson Field is named after a Vannish general who served from 1949 to 1963. Brig. Gen. Harvey J. Emmerson was a graduate of Overglade University. The school is seen as one of Vangaziland's most prestigious universities and is a rival to schools like Blue Coast University, The university of Auster and Imperial Military Academy.

The grass field is home to the OU Lions. The team won the rights to host the Royals National Team by winning season 34 of the Collegiate Football Association. The grounds are located on the 'Downtown Campus'. The area surrounding the university should provide access to many entertainment and nightlife experiences. There are a wide range of hotels, restaurants and parks among some of Vangaziland's most prime commercial real estate.

A warning has been put out about a rise in organized crime. Extra security will be provided for visiting fans.

Home Stadium: Strawbridge Stadium
Capacity: 30,000
Location: Southline, Wrexwic

The motto in Southline is 'Just as good as the Mainland'. Many Wrex citizens here have a rivalry with the large Vannish continent just 500 miles across the ocean. Some resent the Vannish Empire for many reasons. Others are proud to be such a vital part of its history. Just like Emeros and blue Coast, there is plenty of entertainment to be found in Southline.

There will be a great climate for tourists and players to explore. Local laws are pretty lax in certain areas, creating a rather free environment. Things seem slightly less refined than they do in Vangaziland. The buses have a rougher ride and aren't as prompt. The pace everywhere seems more relaxed.

Strawbridge Stadium is known for its soft grass field. Ground balls will travel quickly on the well maintained surface. Players should be able to get their best traction, leading to harder hits and faster runs. The crowd is also known to be loud. A few blocks down the road from Strawbridge is a large casino hotel known as the Bee's Nest. Wasps, bees and hornets are important national animals of Wrexwic. This is where the team get's the nickname 'Wrexwic Wasps'.

Royals Open Series In Cassadaigua

The Vangaziland Royals find themselves in a highly competitive group. There is one obvious competitor that will draw an intense rivalry from the start. The season will open with the season 28 champs squaring off against tournament organizers' homeland Cassadaigua. It is seen as a showcase game, at least to the Vannish players who seemed thrilled to open the season overseas.

"We've all heard so much about Cassadaigua", said starting goalkeeper Peter Strom. Strom has grown into the team's veteran keeper. Although his team is known for being fairly offensive, he has helped keep his team buttoned up on defense. Many Vannish sports analysts expect Strom to have a strong season.

His protege is Janet Reesedottir. Janet plays in the same professional league as most of the men, starting for the Dirktown Miners. The team is a small market team which does struggle to attract top names. Reesedottir's skill has made the Miners into a defensive powerhouse.

"I look forward to seeing what the Daigans will bring to the fight", Reesedottir said in an interview leading up to the game. "They're known for being strong competitors. They have what it takes to climb up the rankings."

Both keepers were asked how they felt about a certain Group 3 rival. "The Banijans have made it clear that they wish to establish themselves. They have called their past losses embarrasing", said Strom. "That kind of sounds like they're coming after our turf." The Vannish Empire has two teams in Pot One, with Vangaziland #2 and Wrexwic #4.

"Defense will need to be in top form in this series", said Reesedottir said about the matches against Banija. "We may see two similar teams. It will be entirely about heart. We'll see who gets it done and who fails. The keepers will also need to be wide awake for this one."

Banija and Vangaziland are not the only illustrious programs in Group 3. An inspired upstart from Northwest Kalactin is quickly becoming known as one of the best teams in Atlantian Oceania. If they can bring enough heart and effort, they could manage a surprise post season entry.

"I'm already thinking about the postseason", said a confident Lizzie Borhanson. She is fresh off a hot season with the Auster Storm. She is one of the first professional players to transition into the 'men's game'. A recent court ruiling establish it un-Imperial to keep one gender away from one version of a sport.

"There are many teams hoping to get to the next level", Borhanson continued. "We hope to stand in their way." She refused to name examples, but Vannish sports fans would recognize certain rival teams in other groups.

Not lost among them was #1 ranked Cosumar. "My sights are set on the number one team", said Captain Theo Scandrix. "We also have a chip on our shoulder. Vannish lacrosse needs to cross into that number one spot."

Part of the reason players like Scandrix wish to earn the #1 ranking is to compete with the Vannish basketball team. Royals basketball also recently won their first championship, at IBC 26. That team holds the top spot in international basketball. Both basketball and lacrosse are officially declared as the national sports of Vangaziland. Athletes from both have fought for the spotlight since the 1950s.

Vannish PG hectare Yulssen refered to the lacrosse team as the 'basketball team's little brother'. The result is a fired of lacrosse team with just as much to prove as any underdog. The Royals join Cosumar, Qasden and Wrexwic as the top teams in their group.

Back In Lacrosse,
by Chelsea Dufresne, Concord Heights Times

For such a popular sport in Cassadaigua, it is surprising that it has taken us so long to return to the World Lacrosse Championships. This is after all, what we would consider our desired sixth ring. After winning the largest tournament in soccer, football (known as gridiron to some), hockey, basketball, and of course, baseball; this is the next one for us that we would like to win. After those big five sports, there really isn’t a coveted jewel afterwards and probably depends on national preference. Some may think auto racing would be a good one, and while we agree, that’s more of an individual sport. Or, individual team sport. Not really the same. We don’t play rugby (no offense to Cassadagan rugby players who do so in small leagues around the country, it just isn’t big enough), or cricket (isn’t that an insect? I don’t understand the rules of that game and am not interested enough to learn). We’ve taken a collegiate championship, three of them actually, as well as volleyball. What’s the one jewel missing that we have pursued? This is the one.

As Cassadaigua returns to the World Lacrosse Championships for the 30th edition, it is not only a comeback, but it is going to happen right here on our turf. CALAX (Cassadagan Association of Lacrosse) submitted a bid to host the tournament, and that was accepted by the tournament. After a double round robin of qualifying games, we will see plenty of this great game on our home turf, even if we don’t make the playoffs. However, make no mistake, this team is not here just to show up and host. They are here to make the playoffs and show the world that we can play this game, and do it quite well.

With four groups of seven, and three teams per group making the playoffs, there will be plenty of action and not an unreasonable path to make the playoffs. We don’t have to keep a “pot 1" team from winning the group. For us, that team is Vangaziland. The Vannish won this tournament two cycles ago, and figure to be strong like Ellie Lindskog on race day. We don’t have to beat Vangaziland. Look, we want too and will try our hardest to do so, but topping them is not a must. We better be competitive, though. The Vannish media recently reported that they open up against us in qualifying, but hopefully the team knows that they are actually opening up at home against Monsa. We also open at home, against Xabia.

The second highest ranked team in this group is Banija, one of the two co-hosts of last year’s tournament. Velestria, the other co-host, is also in this group, and is the third highest ranked team in the group. Banija could be beatable, but they are a team on the rise, and we don’t have to beat them, either. What about Velestria? Once you get to #15, where they are, and #17 Northwest Kalactin, you’re at a spot where over a fourteen matchday campaign, those rankings will not mean much if the nations are not producing. You know what I mean by producing, too. If this team takes care of business, they’ll find a way to make the playoffs. We know they are good, only the rankings don’t.

The Wrexwic Wasps had done the unthinkable. They went from unranked to top 5 in two seasons. If there were not such strong teams at the top, they may have jumped into the lead. Instead a strong Cosumar and rising Vangaziland stand at the top. There were celebrations across the tiny island after their team won the WLC 29 Championship.

Their victory wasn't the same as if they had beaten Vangaziland in the Championship. The Wasps lost to the Royals in the WLC 28 Championship game. Vangaziland failed to advance far enough into the postseason to meet Wrexwic in the season 29 Final Match. Wasp fans celebrated as if they did beat the Royals. The Wasps became a symbol to colonists of the benevolent Empire in places like the Tainese Isles and Jhalpharezi. They saw another colony rise above the Mainland on the international stage.

There was every chance Wrexwic could do this again. They carried a plucky group from a land of fighters. The Wrexish title brought a comparison to Abigail Kaldwell. Kaldwell defeated prize fighter Linda Henshmen for a Multiverse Boxing Organization belt. Vannish Linda held one belt and would eventually win another. Her winning streak was only broken by one Wrexish colonist.

When Olympiad rosters were first submitted, Wrexish lacrosse was snubbed. They were technically eligible under dual citizenship rules of the island just 500 ocean miles from the Mainland. Protesters stood outside of the Vannish complex in Southline for weeks holding signs for the lacrosse team.

Glover Webb would be the lone Wrex included on the squad. For many it was not enough. A few fans called for a boycott of international lacrosse. That never drew any traction. Wrexwic was fully invested in its team and the sport. They hoped to continue to beat the Vannish and earn the number one ranking.

This was a team that has defied rankings from match one. The difference between them and the top three teams felt negligible. "I'll be glad to help out the Vangazi", Webb said, laughing off the pressure. He would represent one nation as well as many colonists separated by oceans.

His rival, Theo Scandrix called Webb out by saying, "I hope Webb can keep up with a professional offense." Many in Wrexwic saw the comment as an insult.

"If Vangaziland and Wrexwic ever meet, Scandrix will wish he'd never said that", threatened Wrexish defender Lamar Jameson. Jameson is known for hard hitting shoulder tackles accelerated by his rapid speed off the line.

This drew a response from Wilhelmeina Stenbeck, a 6'4 reserve defender worthy of the 'enforcer' moniker. Vannish media have previously referred to her and Swenson as 'goons'. "If they do something to Cap over this, there's going to be a major issue."

The rivalry seems as heated as ever. Meanwhile Wrexwic hopes to enjoy top dog status in Group 1. "We will stay focused and play our brand of the sport", said attackman Webb.

The West Phoenicians Confederate took out the last World Baseball Classic. The West Phoenician Lightning Bolts took out the World Twenty20 Cricket Championship and now fans of the Daredevils, the West Phoenician national lacrosse team are thinking can we make a big impact and take out the 30th season of the World Lacrosse Championship.

Nothing is impossible, but the team has hardly made a dent on the world stage in this sport. It will be a full on timetable for the Daredevils as not only are they looking to take home the win in these championship and enter the top 10 but they are scheduled to play at the Summer Olympic Games in Republica, where they hope to obtain a demonstration event medal in gold, silver or bronze.

Head Coach Roberto Taylor said during a pre-game interview yesterday "The guys are pumped. We have been placed in a grouping where we will come face to face with number 1 seed Cosumar. If we can beat them, than its a good sign that we can make this dream a reality. New West Guiana is another team that we will need to keep an eye on, we will be playing them first, so the results will be good to see, we want to avoid any unnecessary losses. As the top 3 teams proceed beating some of the older established teams is a must if we want to progress.
But the Daredevils have been training hard and they won't back down like all good West Phoenicians they have a fighting spirit. And that will clearly come out when we bit the field and make out prescence known."

Cheergirls Roster

You may be familiar with the Cheergirls tradition of wearing a conventional cheerleading uniform during these games, and playing in someone’s backyard. You may also be familiar with how I don’t give them positions, and say they just run around at will.

That is not the case for the Cheergirls lacrosse team. This is a professional side, with proper lacrosse uniforms, and proper positions, playing at a proper stadium. Why, you ask? Many cheerleaders often play lacrosse (OOC: where I live IRL, anyway). So, these girls got game.
